Get Involved with the oVirt Project! Spring 2017 Edition
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
Got some time to spare? Join us on the oVirt project!
oVirt is a feature rich server virtualization management system with
advanced capabilities. It also provides a crucial venue for user and
developer cooperation, and is the first truly open and comprehensive data
center virtualization management initiative.
If you are new to oVirt, we recommend that you visit the develop
<https://www.ovirt.org/develop/> page to learn more about the project, and
the working with Gerrit
<https://www.ovirt.org/develop/dev-process/working-with-gerrit/> page for
more about our code review system. If you haven’t worked with Gerrit
before, we recommend you visit the introduction to Gerrit
<https://gerrit-review.googlesource.com/Documentation> page.
On our community page <https://www.ovirt.org/community/> you’ll discover
the many ways in which you can contribute to the project, even without
programming skills.
More suggestions? Below you’ll find other ways in which you can contribute
to the oVirt project.
Keep ‘em Fresh
Like the idea of having fresh disk images of your favorite distribution in
the oVirt Glance repository? You can help in two ways: First, test existing
online images to ensure that they work with cloud-init. Second, create an
online image and report your success to devel(a)ovirt.org. We’ll be happy to
upload the images once they are ready.
Get Vdsm Running on Debian
If you like Debian and have programming or packaging skills, you can help
with the ongoing effort to get VDSM running on Debian
<https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/debian-support-...>.
All the current work on Debian (VDSM and related packages) can be found in
the Debian git repositories <http://git.debian.org/>. You can also keep up
to date on how the work is progressing by subscribing to the oVirt devel
mailing list <http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/devel>.

How to deploy hosted-engine to the second and later host machines
by Tatsuya
Hi,
I'm running oVirt 4.1.0.4-1. I'm building oVirt+GlusterFS(replica 3 Volume)
configuration for testing.
Each machine spec is as follows.
CPU: 2core
Memory: 8GB
Disk: 120GB
OS: CentOS7.3
Each host name is host1, host2, host3.
I installed Hosted Engine successfully in host1, but I couldn't install it
in host2 and host3.
In version 4.0, as described below, since it is asked whether or not it is
an additional host at the time of deployment,
hosted_engine could be added to the second and later node without any error.

assigned Host was not available
by Bill James
I have a hardware node that I recently upgraded from 3.6.4 to 4.1.0.4-1.
It is having issues that certain VMs I cannot deploy to it because ovirt
says host is not available.
However that host is status up and has 14 running VMs on it.
How do I tell why ovirt thinks the host is not available?
Attached is output from "vdsClient -s ovirt4.test.j2noc.com getVdsStats"

WebAdmin is down, HostedEngine is up
by Logan Kuhn
Starting at 1:09am on Saturday the Hosted Engine has been rebooting because
it failed it's liveliness check. This is due to the webadmin not loading.
Nothing changed as far as I can tell on the engine since it's last
successful reboot on Friday afternoon.
The engine, dwhd and httpd are all up and do not seem to be reporting
anything unusual in their respective logs. The engine can talk to the
database as I can login using the credentials in /etc/ovirt-engine/engine.co
nf.d/10-setup-database.conf and the logs on the postgres server are showing
activity.
I tried to run engine-setup but it says it's not in global maintenance even
though the hosted engine hosts agree that it is. We are on version 4.0.6.3
Server, engine and agent logs are attached

Logan

Hi,
Since I've upgraded to 4.1 I don't have "actual downtime" after VM
migration displayed, it displays N/A
.... Duration: 1 minute 59 seconds, Total: 1 minute 59 seconds, Actual
downtime: (N/A) .....
So far I remember this value was available in 3.6, does anybody else
have the same situation where this value is missing?
I've investigate the logs but could just find the same information (N/A)
Where is this value calculated / measured?
Regards,
Arsène

ovirtmgmt bridge creation fails 100% during hosted-engine 4.1 install
by Ian Neilsen
Guys
Bug 1:
I have run the ovirt 4.1 installation many times now and everytime through
the deploy the ovirtmgmt bridge fails at ifup when used in conjunction with
bonded nic's
The deploy process stops when it cannot raise the bridge ifup. To fix, a
systemctl restart network works and I can start deploy again. ifup will not
work.
2 questions:
Do you want me to raise a bug for this. I'll get my logs to a place where
you can access them.
Has anyone got a scrip to create the ovirtmgmt bridge? Is there anything
special I need to know if I create it manually on my bonded nic's.
Bug 2:
During hosted deploy on second node, via gui, the ovirtmgt bridge fails to
create necessary files and deletes other ifcfg files in the process. Bridge
creation stops as it seems to be missing ifcfg files necessary. Again nics
are bonded. manual creation is needed to fix the deploy mess.
Yet to confirm this one, am about to try now. Will let you know.
Systems:
Centos7.3,
ovirt 4.1,
gluster 3.10.0
vdsm-4.19.4-1.el7.centos.x86_64
kernel 3.10.0-514.10.2.el7.x86_64

Error on Node upgrade 2
by FERNANDO FREDIANI
I am not sure if another email I sent went through but has anyone got
problems when upgrading a running oVirt-node-ng from 4.1.0 to 4.1.1.
Is the only solution a complete reinstall of the node ?
Thanks
