Failed to deploy ovirt engine with "hosted-engine --deploy"
by Bong Shau Fui
Hi:
I'm new to ovirt. I followed the guide at the page https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Deploying_Self-Hoste..., started to run "hosted-engine --deploy". It got stuck at the stage TASK [Get local VM IP] for about 5 minutes, and failed. Did a search but came out with nothing. From the log files these 2 lines are shown:

VM poor iops
by Leo David
Hi Everyone,
I am encountering the following issue on a single instance hyper-converged
4.2 setup.
The following fio test was done:
fio --randrepeat=1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=1 --gtod_reduce=1 --name=test
--filename=test --bs=4k --iodepth=64 --size=4G --readwrite=randwrite
The results are very poor doing the test inside of a vm with a prealocated
disk on the ssd store: ~2k IOPS
Same test done on the oVirt node directly on the mounted ssd_lvm: ~30k IOPS
Same test done, this time on the gluster mount path: ~20K IOPS
What could be the issue that the vms have this slow hdd performance ( 2k on
ssd !! )?
Thank you very much !

Feature: Hosted engine VM management
by Roy Golan
Hi all,
Upcoming in 3.6 is enhancement for managing the hosted engine VM.
In short, we want to:
* Allow editing the Hosted engine VM, storage domain, disks, networks etc
* Have a shared configuration for the hosted engine VM
* Have a backup for the hosted engine VM configuration
please review and comment on the wiki below:
http://www.ovirt.org/Hosted_engine_VM_management
Thanks,

Re: [ovirt-users] Large DWH Database, how to empty
by Matt .
Hi,
OK thanks! I saw that after upgrading to 4.0.5 from 4.0.4 the DB
already dropped with around 500MB directly and is now at 2GB smaller.
Does this sounds familiar to you with other settings in 4.0.5 ?
Thanks,
Matt

ovirt 4.2.7.1 fails to deploy hosted engine on GlusterFS
by hunter86_bg@yahoo.com
Hello Community,
I'm trying to deploy a hosted engine on GlusterFS which fails with the following error:
[ INFO ] TASK [Add glusterfs storage domain]
[ ERROR ] Error: Fault reason is "Operation Failed". Fault detail is "[Failed to fetch Gluster Volume List]". HTTP response code is 400.
[ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "deprecations": [{"msg": "The 'ovirt_storage_domains' module is being renamed 'ovirt_storage_domain'", "version": 2.8}], "msg": "Fault reason is \"Operation Failed\". Fault detail is \"[Failed to fetch Gluster Volume List]\". HTTP response code is 400."}
I have deployed GlusterFS via the HyperConverged Option in Cockpit and the volumes are up and running.
[root@ovirt1 ~]# gluster volume status engine

There are no active volume tasks
I'm using the following guide : https://ovirt.org/blog/2018/02/up-and-running-with-ovirt-4-2-and-gluster-...
And on step 4 - Storage - I have defined it as follows:
Storage Type: Gluster
Storage Connection: ovirt1.localdomain:/gluster_bricks/engine/
Mount Options: backup-volfile-servers=ovirt2.localdomain:glarbiter.localdomain
Can someone hint me where is the problem ?

Using the web-ui VM portal through a proxy failing
by Callum Smith
Dear oVirt Gurus,
Using the oVirt user VM portal seems to not work through the squid proxy setup (configured as per the guide). The page loads and login works fine through the proxy, but the asynchronous requests just hang. I've attached a screenshot, but you can see the "api" endpoint just hanging in a web inspector:
[cid:CA42E493-3AD9-45F8-B4C3-C914F059390C@well.ox.ac.uk]
This works fine when not going through the proxy.
Is there a way to force noVNC HTML as the console mode through the web-ui, or at least have it as an option if not default?
The console seems not to work when logged in with a base 'user role'.
Regards,
Callum

Create Snapshots on Windows 7 Pro x64 VM's causes Bootload errors
by robertodg@prismatelecomtesting.com
Hello everyone,
on Ovirt 4.2.6.4-1.el7, when we try to create a snapshot on Windows 7 Pro x64 (regardless of whether the VM is powered off or not) after several reboots it causes bootload errors (below you'll find a link with screenshoot error).
https://ibb.co/tKx6SKw
We haven't tried other Windows versions yet, do you have any idea about what the cause might be?
Thanks in advance.

engine-iso-uploader taking a REALLY long time
by zachary.winter@vcwise.com
I am noticing that the engine-iso-uploader tool on oVirt 4.2.7 (running on CentOS 7.6.1810) takes a very long time to load individual ISO's, usually on the order of hours for a single ISO. Is this normal?
