[ENGINE] splitting AuditLogDirector to its own module
by Yair Zaslavsky
Hi all,
I just reviewed a patch regarding AuditLogDirector and I thought to myself - why is it located in DAL?
Our maven dependencies are built in a way that both bll and vdsbroker depend on DAL, and if you perform git grep AuditLogDirector you will see it is used
by bll and vdsbroker.
But that this is not necessary a reason to include AuditlogDirector in DAL.
I think DAL should be our Data Access Layer, and for audit log (which is a class that uses our DAOs) we should have a separate module.
Thoughts on this are welcome,
Yair

[New Documentation] oVirt User Guide (Please Review!)
by Brian Proffitt
I would like to announce the posting of a new page on the oVirt site: the oVirt User Guide[1].
I know what you're thinking: didn't we just release the oVirt Administration Guide? Why, indeed we did[2]! But this was a shorter document, and so did not take as long to convert.
This guide, adapted to MediaWiki form with the help of Red Hat's Content Services team, should be up to date as of oVirt 3.4. But, it is a living document and, like the Administration Guide, it needs further review! I ask everyone to take start poking at this documentation once oVirt 3.5 is released and people get familiar with the new release, so as to identify procedures that have changed, and new features that must be added.
Please use Bugzilla to assign bugs in these document to me, or, if you have wiki privileges, edit as needed.
Up next: a revised Quick Start Guide to get people launched into oVirt as fast as possible.

Brian

ovirt.js OPW project
by Jenny Kang
Hello!
I'm a student and I'm interested in the OPW project, which funds women
into open source projects. oVirt is one of the supported projects. I'm
really interested in working on the new ovirt.js library which uses the
ovirt rest api.
I need a mentor for this project. Any suggestions if it's a good idea to
work on this? And also anyone interested in mentoring me in this
project?
I'm not selected yet but I would love to commit some contributions to
get a feel of what it's like to work on ovirt.js beforehand.
Cheers,
Jenny

AFAIK this is still WIP?
see: http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Docker_Integration
I don't know of any released code in ovirt 3.5
which supports docker yet. I'm pretty informed
about ovirt development so I would be surprised
to hear this is already implemented without
reading about it on the ovirt-devel list.
But this gets OT for centos-devel, I guess.
Maybe someone from ovirt-devel can shed some
light on this topic?
kind regards
Sven

Hi,
I do very well know it
is not supported yet, but
would you mind adding oVirt (ovirt.org)
to this list?
It would be huge to have docker
support there.
Also CC'ed ovirt-devel, maybe
there is some interest.
kind regards
Sven

virt-v2v intergration with vdsm
by Shahar Havivi
Hi,
We are planning to add couple of verbs to vdsm in order to import external VMs
from VMWare esx server directly to data domain.
This ability will also be reflected in oVirt engine and will enable user to
view and select VMs from esx server, currently if oVirt user want to import a
VM he needs to invoke a virt-v2v command line that will transfer the VM to
an export domain and then import the same VM from export domain to data domain,
Our goal is to eliminate the additional copy and simplify the process.
In order to achive that we need to add two verbs for vdsm:
1. getExternalVmList(uri):
This call is for listing all VMs that are raised in a specified esx server
given its uri.
2. convertExternalVm():
The actual call to virt-v2v for copy and convert the VM to data domain,
importVm will be called after the oVirt engine create the right image
structure (via createImage)
The virt-v2v handling verbs and other needed logic will be presented in a new
file vdsm/v2v.py
More details on virt-v2v integration can be found in its feature page:
http://www.ovirt.org/Features/virt-v2v_Integration
Thanks,
Shahar Havivi.
