Any way I can obtain an oVirt T-shirt?

Hi guys, I signed up to some meetups in my residential area, and I am considering to give lecture that relates to oVirt. Can I obtain an oVirt t-shirt somehow so I can wear for the presentation? (Well, I can wear one of my Red-Hat T-shirts, but as I plan it be in context of open source, I would prefer oVirt) Cheers, Yair

Upgrade order 3.4.2 -> 3.5.x

So we always need some hypervisor nodes up and running during the process. Looking at older posts I assume that upgrading the engine should be sufficient, while hypervisor nodes with vdsm 4.14.17 (from 3.4 repos) and the active VMs keep on running. The start of the engine after the upgrade should catch up and resync all states. Afterwards I clean hypervisor hosts one by one and clean/reinstall it into the cluster? Thanks in advance. [Users] connecting to oVirt/RHEV VMs through proxy and the oVirt API

Hello, My apologies for cross-posting, but this discussion concerns both mailing lists, I think. In Opaque, I recently started setting the proxy property of SpiceSession from a console file, as is done in remote-viewer, in order to support installations where the nodes are not "visible" from the point of view of the client. However, then I remembered that I have not seen the proxy property being available through the oVirt/RHEV API. I looked at the latest remote-viewer code, and I looked through the oVirt/RHEV API documentation, and indeed, I see no way to get proxy information other than through the console.vv file. If I am correct, then this means that both Opaque and remote-viewer cannot connect to VMs behind a proxy unless a console.vv file is used, which also means that since console.vv files are unobtainable through the User Portal on mobile devices, mobile devices effectively cannot at all connect to such VMs if the user is not an Administrator. Would it be possible to expose the proxy parameter through the API? I couldn't find a bug opened about this, but it doesn't mean it isn't there :). NFS Storage domain backup

Hi , I'm using NFS storage domain, is it possible to backup the domain manually? or is there an api in ovirt which support this? For manual backup, is possible to use tools like rsync ? or the data will not be consistent ? Any idea of possible solutions for this?;as we don't have dedicated storage box. Thanks, Mohyedeen.

VM Migrate problem on HA Cluster

Hello to all, I am trying to build a two-node ovirt cluster, using a VNXe 3150 iSCSI SAN. The two physical machines used for hypervisors are HP DL380p servers, with 128GB RAM and two E5-2630. On both servers I created a 100GB logical volume used for GlusterFS, to install on top of it both the hosted engine used and the ISO repository. Installation was fine, and under Virtualization Manager, the datacenter seems OK and both hypervisors seems to be registered properly. I have also added the two hosts to the VNXe, created some iSCSI LUNs to test the whole platform and created iSCSI bond interfaces to enabled multipathing. My problem is that live VM migration only works to one direction, lets say from server VH1 to VH2, and not backwards. If I try to bring the VM back to VH1, I get the following: ===== Migration failed due to Error: Fatal error during migration (VM: Test_Centos_7, Source: hosted_engine_2, Destination: hosted_engine_1). ===== I cant seem (and to be honest dont know exactly how) to identify something in the log files. I have verified though that both servers are identical, with the same services up, SELinux disabled, firewalls down and ntp enabled and reporting same time. Now, if I powerdown the VM from VH2 and start it up again, it starts OK on VH1. Also, if I try to migrate the Hosted Engine itself, I get: ===== Error while executing action: HostedEngine: Cannot migrate VM. There are no available HA hosts in the VM's Cluster. Cannot migrate VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. Live Snapshot support on EL 6.6 with oVirt 3.5 now "Inactive" when "Active" on EL 6.5

On EL 6.5 Host and oVirt 3.5, I was able to create live snapshot (Live Snapshot Support: Active). After upgrading host to EL 6.6, the oVirt UI now reports live snapshot as "Inactive". I have submitted bug 1158469 with more details (package versions, etc). https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1158469 I would assume that is it not advisable to upgrade from EL 6.5 to EL 6.6 at this time if you require Live Snapshot support on the Host.

Hosted Engine fail after upgrading to 3.5

Hello, I tried to add foreman as external provider - without successes. Hosted Engine 3.5 CentOS6.5 The foreman is a plain vanilla install; working so far (can log in, do stuff, local smart proxy registered) foreman FQDN is resolvable via DNS In the engine UI I enter: https://foreman.lab.mbox.loc user pw and press test. The cert is shown and after clicking ok, the chain is imported. However, the test fails with a SSL error. Hi everyone, Today I have updated oVirt 3.5 to GA from RC5. And I have tried SPICE HTML5 Browser Clinet, but console screen is 'blank'. Before updating to GA, My oVirt 3.5 could display console screen correctly. Browser is the Firefox 31 running on Windows 7. Cleaning up my oVirt enviroment

Hello, I 'm trying to disconnect my second datastorage from my oVirt enviroment and so far I' was able to delete all virtual machines. But when I check the available disks there are quite a few but I'm unable to delete them from within the app. Why is this happening and how can I neatly remove these remaining disks. FYI, Just spend the better part of the day debugging a weird issue. Running 'yum update' on a CentOS-6.5 VM causes a kernel OOPS on the host :-( The oops is in the nfs module (_put_nfs_open_context) and it looks like there is work being done on it. Kernel(s) tried are all 3.16.x. Switching back to the latest F19 kernel (is an updated system) and then there is no crash anymore. Tried all kinds of variations with different NFS servers, different hosts, different kernels but I get the OOPS always during the yum update sooner or later. (updated ofcourse a lot of things before I hit this :-( ) Regards, Joop

Hi, We are migrating our ifrastructure from kvm+libvirt hypervisors to ovirt. Everything is working fine but we're noticing that all the qemu-kvm processes in the hypervisors take a lot of CPU. The typical example is an idle machine, running top from the machine itself it reports cpu use percentages below 10% and loads (with 2 processors) of 0.0x. The process running that machine in the hypervisor rports cpu uses in the order of the 80-100%. Should the values look like this? Why are the idle machines eating up so much CPU time? Thank you. migrate from stand alone on FC19 to hosted OK to use CentOS 7?

I am trying to migrate my old ovirt install which started out at 3.3 standalone engine on FC19 to a hosted engine. I want to use CentOS , however, the postgresql version on 6.5 is old (8.4.20) and I am unable to get a clean restore. The version on FC 19 is 9.2.8, it looks like EL 7 has 9.2.7 (I am hoping the difference in the minor rev will not bite me). I was wondering if there are any issues using EL 7 to host the engine? I know I had seen some reports of issues with 3.5 on EL7 as hosts but was not sure if the engine had any gotchas. Thanks, Alastair

MacPoolRanges not working as expected

Hi everyone, First of all I'd like to say that we have been using oVirt successfully for more than a year, creating an automated deploy system with help of foreman and puppet. That being said, we're currently facing the first serious problem and we'd appreciate some help. Everything was working fine until we exhausted the default MacPoolRanges. After looking for a solution to the error message we found this document: http://www.ovirt.org/Engine_config_examples#MacPoolRanges Following the instructions on it we executed the following commands: First we found out what our current pool was: # engine-config -g MacPoolRanges MacPoolRanges: 00:1a:4a:24:26:00-00:1a:4a:24:26:ff version: general So we proceeded to expand it: # engine-config -s "MacPoolRanges=00:1a:4a:24:26:00-00:1a:4a:24:27:ff" # service ovirt-engine restart After this we were able to create new machines but none of them seemed to have network. After some unsuccessful troubleshooting we restored the original pool and instead added a new one: # engine-config -s "MacPoolRanges=00:1a:4a:24:26:00-00:1a:4a:24:26:ff" # service ovirt-engine restart # engine-config -s "MacPoolRanges=00:1a:4a:24:26:00-00:1a:4a:24:26:ff,00:1a:4a:24:27:00-00:1a:4a:24:27:ff" # service ovirt-engine restart After doing this and test to create a new host everything seemed to work fine. The problem is that after the successful creation of some hosts the original problem where the new hosts didn't seem to have network, reappeared. Trying to narrow down the problem what we've find out so far is: This oVirt environment kickstarts hosts via PXE, when trying to PXE boot a new host, the DHCP process fails (timeout). Tracing the network packets, we are able to see that the virtual host sends the dhcp request, the dhcp server receives it and acknowledges it and it sends the dhcp offer back. The dhcp offer reaches the hypervisor to the vnetxx network interface BUT it doesn't go further and it doesn't reach the virtual host. This behavior is consistent through different hypervisors and vlans, including the ones that have been used/created before the problems appeared. The only pattern that we've been able to identify so far is through issuing the command "brctl showmacs <bridge_name>" This command list the mac addresses for the interfaces connected to the bridge. In the cases where everything works fine the output looks like this: port no mac addr is local? ageing timer 2 00:1a:4a:24:27:e0 no 0.01 2 fe:1a:4a:24:27:e0 yes 0.00 The virtual host MAC address begins with "00" and it has a corresponding address beginning with "fe" which is assigned to the "vnetxx" interface in the hypervisor. In the cases where the virtual host doesn't get the dhcp answers the output of "brctl showmacs <bridge_name>" is: port no mac addr is local? ageing timer 6 fe:1a:4a:24:27:a0 yes 0.00 This is, the actual virtual host's MAC address is missing from the bridge. We haven't been able to find a detailed explanation on how the network internals of oVirt should work but hopefully someone in this list can point us to the right resource. Thank you. Xavier.

oVirt 3.5 on RHEL 6.6 hyperv enabled breaks Windows VMs

The same thing would happen if I simply booted from the Windows install media. I would get a screen with a stop error: Your PC needs to restart. Please hold down the power button. Error Code: 0x0000001E Parameters: 0xFFFFFFFFC0000096 0xFFFFF802C4044EA4 0x00000000000000000 0x00000000000000000 I created a file called /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d/01-windows.properties that had one line: os.windows_xp.devices.hyperv.enabled.value = false I restarted ovirt-engine and now I can start my Windows VMs. Why does this occur? Is it because I upgraded from 3.4 to 3.5? Is there something else I'm doing wrong? I would like to not need this workaround. Thanks. Charles

Well, in fact have got something to work now! Left ovirtmgmt and em1 alone but ran: $ ovs-vsctl add-br ovsbr0 $ ip link add name veth0 type veth peer name veth1 $ brctl addif ovirtmgmt veth0 $ ovs-vsctl add-port ovsbr veth1 $ ip add add XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/29 dev veth1 $ ip link set veth0 up && ip link set veth1 up and now veth1 is responding as-well as veth0. ovs-vsctl show 08554d11-3ba7-4303-b9d5-6a09f23c9057 Bridge "ovsbr0" Port "veth1" Interface "veth1" Port "ovsbr0" Interface "ovsbr0" type: internal so what I think should do now is create a custom parameter on the Engine Manager that allows one to define an OVS bridge name and VLAN so when a virtual guest is created it can be assigned to the new bridge; with the use of a custom hook. So at that point you have network running. You could just make a hook script that runs an after_network_setup hook that does the ovs-vsctl for you ;-) Here you can see the presentation I gave last February at devconf about extending with configurators and hooks. http://blog.antoni.me/devconf14/#/8/1 I linked directly to a before_network_setup hook sample, because it works just like the after_network_setup hook. Instead of logging to systemd, just add that if 'remove' is not in data and network == 'ovirtmgmt', it adds the network bridge to the vswitch with python's subprocess.call or subprocess.check_output. You can send it if you want me to take a look ;-) PS: It is possible to write the hooks in bash, c, perl, etc. But we only have the convenience read_json methods and such for python. If you wanted to, you could have a simple bash hook that just checked if there was an ovirtmgmt bridge and it would add it doing ovs-vsctl in the before_vdsm_start hooking point. all-in-one updated from 3.4.4 to 3.5.0 ok with reinstall of host part

On a fedora 19 system where I had 3.4.4 all-in-one, I was able to upgrade to 3.5. vdsm part had problems I was able to solve reinstalling host from the webadmin gui Steps were: - follow instructions for engine part --> ok - verify connectivity of engine via new webadmin - put host into maintenance - stop vdsmd service - yum update vdsm part and all other packages related to ovirt When trying to start vdsm again I got [root@tekkaman vdsm]# systemctl status vdsmd vdsmd.service - Virtual Desktop Server Manager Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/vdsmd.service; enabled) Active: failed (Result: start-limit) since Sat 2014-10-25 16:01:29 CEST; 2min 54s ago Process: 14448 ExecStartPre=/usr/libexec/vdsm/vdsmd_init_common.sh --pre-start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) Oct 25 16:01:29 tekkaman.localdomain.local systemd[1]: Failed to start Virtual Desktop Server Manager. Hello All! Am really enjoying experimenting with oVirt but have come across a question; how does one enable NAT for a VM ? Would like my guests to be able to update their software by bridging the host public IP. I could not see anything in the WUI to allow this ? Thanks, Phil

Hi. I have got the same issue (filesystems read-only) when provisioning CentOS 6.5 as node host (installed base OS and added vdsm package). multipathd shows wwids file reaed-only. Cant't write wwid. Fore some reason filesystem gets corrupted when installing vdsm. Regards. Problem installing hosted engine on CentOS 7 host

Hi, I'm just trying to set up ovirt 3.5 for testing and am unable to get hosted engine installed. The problem appears to be something to do with multipath iscsi setup. I run 'hosted-engine --deploy' and answer all the questions. Import FC Storage as iSCSI

Hello. I have created an FC Storage Domain and made snapshots of all LUNs on the SAN. Now I want to use those snapshots on another Data Center over iSCSI connection to test recovery. I can import the domain, but the domains Storage Type is FC and I can't attach it to host. Is it possible to change domain type to iSCSI or some other way to import storage domain. Thank you. Raul
