* 3.6 status CORRECTION: Still looking at 6 months out in both release
process proposals, but danken has a proposal to change the cycle.

(bkp, 15:46:56)
* ACTION: 3.6 status CORRECTION: All: let's examine and vote on
proposal to chage the cycle.

(bkp, 15:47:00)
* conferences and workshops (bkp, 15:47:46)
* LISA14 went pretty well. Booth traffic was solid, gshereme and bkp
answered a fair amount of general questions about oVirt, and talked
to a lot of sysadmins with specific queries on oVirt. (bkp,
15:48:01)
* FOSDEM is the next big event. OSAS will be very much on the scene,
and oVirt has applied for a booth at the event. There is still time
to get your talks into the IaaS and Virt devrooms. (bkp, 15:48:05)
* Now that travel is wrapped up, I am working on getting meetup and
workshop materials ready for anyone who wants to present on oVirt at
a local event. (bkp, 15:48:09)
* 11th Intl. Conf. on Open Source Systems CFP Open Through Jan. 10
call for papers http://www.oss2015.org/call-for-papers/ (bkp,
15:50:45)
* other topics (bkp, 15:51:11)
* A big welcome to our new OPW interns! Be ready to assist with any of
their questions as they lurk about the channel and the lists! (bkp,
15:51:23)
* It was brought to my attention this morning that ovirt.org/stats has
not been working for a while. I have asked misc to look into it.
(bkp, 15:51:26)
* Speaking of stats, downloads for oVirt engine in Oct. totaled 1460
from resources.ovirt.org. This is down from 2194 downloads in Sept.
Likely now that 3.5 is rolling out, this trend will likely change.
(bkp, 15:51:29)
* One of the big goals we should have for 2015 is figuring out a way
to determine actual installs of oVirt. If anyone has ideas on how we
can pull such information together, let's get a discussion going on
the users mailing list. (bkp, 15:51:33)
* Finally, there is an informal survey out on the users mailing list
now about extending oVirt support to Debian/Ubuntu. Got thoughts on
this? Here's the thread:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-November/029209.html
(bkp, 15:51:37)
Meeting ended at 15:55:01 UTC.

Sizing the master storage domain
by Nicolas Ecarnot
Hi,
I know Itamar explained that the notion of master storage domain will
disappear in some releases.
But now, with a 3.4 I'm installing, I was wondering :
- on my other oVirt setups, I started with one big (iSCSI) LUN, which is
the master, and stored as many VMs I could
- when space came to miss, I added another LUN, the another...
- when I have to do some maintenance (grow, disable, other...) on a LUN,
I can move my VM disks amongst the normal storage domains. When Empty, I
can switch them off, add others, and so on
The only one I can not play with is the master one.
I came to think that I had no benefice storing anything on the master
storage domain, and use only the normal storage domains.
And then, I came to think I had no reason to dedicate a huge LUN for the
master.
Ok, but according to you, what is the minimum reasonable size for a
master storage domain?

Hi, is there a way of setting eth parameters for hypervisors? My freebsd

run these on all hypervisors manually.

Gluster access tied to one node?
by Chris Adams
So this may be a dumb question, but here goes...
I set up a replicated Gluster volume for VM disk image storage. I
specified the path as node9:gluster1 (where node9 is one of the two
nodes with a brick). However, when I shut down node9, the VM using that
storage automatically gets paused.
I thought the replicated storage was supposed to work even if one node
was down. Is there some other way to specify the path (did I do that
wrong)?

Complete evalution of backup solutions
by Mario Giammarco
Hello,
I am evaluating ovirt and considering backups.
I have three solutions:
1) iscsi san that does snapshots
2) Glusterfs
3) ovirt api
So I have these questions:
- if I use 1) can I import a snapshot as different storage domain?
- glusterfs snapshot implementation is ready? Can I do consistent backups
of gluster bricks?
- is there an opensource backup software that can do incremental backups
using ovirt api?
Thanks in advance for interest,
Mario

change ovirt and node hostname.fqdn - all in one installation
by Grzegorz Szypa
Hi.
I have a problem with changing ovirt hostname:
I change the following:
1. config in /etc/hosts and /etc/sysconfig/network and restart machine
2. /usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/bin/ovirt-engine-rename --newname=<new
hostname.fqdn>
3. engine-setup
But still a problem with changing address in node in webadmin portal.
Have somebody any idea how to do it?

Engine: Get guest XML dump
by Daniel Helgenberger
Hello,
after working with Foreman for a while come to love the yaml dump
feature for hosts as it proved invaluable for debugging and setups [1].
After some questions on the list here if for instance libgfapi is being
used I think such a feature also might prove useful in oVirt.
Right now, I log into the host running the vm and to this with virsh
dumpxml.
I imagine something like -> right click on a guest and choose 'XML
dump'; or a XML tap in the VM edit window.
If somebody else thinks this is useful too, I will open a RFE.
Cheers,
