[Users] Can't open ovirt console using Spice or VNC - help!
by Drew Showers
Hello,
I'm a nube with ovirt, but have the ovirt-engine and 1 remote host up and
running (separate physical servers, same subnet). The network, DNS. NFS all
work. I can create VM's, install the ISO OS with no problems. Here is were
I get stuck.
After a frustrating few hours trying to get a console to launch on my mac,
I broke down and created a new Centos 6.4 Desktop VM using Fusion. I've
installed -
spice-xpi (yum install spice-xpi)
virt-manager (yum install virt-manager)
Using Firefox, if I try to open the console from the ovirt admin using
Spice browser plugin or native client options, nothing happens (no errors
either), other than message saying the user is initiating a console
session.
If using VNC, then it wants to either download the console.vv or open it
with the default viewer, which throws and error "Unable to connect to the
graphics server file"
So, I'm stuck in going any further until I get this worked out. No VM IP or
host name (unless I'm missing something)... I actually find this quite
unfriendly. I know similar issues have been discussed previously, but none
have solved my problem. BTW: I'm running Centos 6.5 on both the engine and
host.
I'm not sure if I'm missing additional packages or what. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Drew

[Users] A/B network setup
by Pat Pierson
I am having some issues wrapping my head around this but what I am trying
to setup is a A/B testing environment with a 3node cluster. Each node has
2 nics, 1 for ovirtmgmt and 1 for vlaned A/B network. I guess what I am
trying to understand is if ovirt is tagging the vlan's I setup and is
properly passing that to the switch? This would allow me to have multiple
subnets on a host that the switch also can see as multiple vlans. Right?
I would still have to configure the switch to allow that port access to
both vlans.

[Users] FOSDEM slides + recordings available
by Doron Fediuck
http://www.ovirt.org/FOSDEM_2014#Sessions
I will continue to update with recordings (and last slides) as it becomes available.
This is also a good chance to thank everyone involved.
People who practiced, spoke, volunteered for stand shifts, Video handling,
helping with the oVirt-live, carrying maps, laptops, handout-sheets, poster-sign
to/from UBL and other logistics. Special thanks to Joop, René, Jorick, Robert and
Alexander who joined us in ULB .
We got a big and very positive exposure for oVirt, which as you'll be able to hear
is getting a lot of community attention now.
See you in FOSDEM 2015 ;)

[Users] Best way to request a new feature?
by Bob Doolittle
What's the best way to request a new feature?
Do we manage a Wiki page for this somewhere? Or should I just open a
bug/rfe?
The feature I'd like to see:
It would be nice if the Admin page had an indication either on the VMs
page or in the left navigation frame when everything is in place for
starting VMs.
Here's an example scenario to illustrate why this would be useful:
Every morning I power up my Engine and Host machines. The first thing I
have to do is Activate my Host, and then monitor it while it comes up,
Contends and eventually assumes SPM responsibility. Then I can change to
the tab with my VMs and start up the one(s) I need, and open their consoles.
But I have to watch the Host tab until SPM is established, because when
looking at the VMs page there's no indication whether they can be
started up yet or not. Nothing unless I try to start one, and get a
pop-up error.
Additional useful features:
Is there any way to cause a VM to automatically power on as soon as
oVirt is ready to do so?
Is there any way to cause a console to automatically open up as soon as
a VM is started?

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

This may seem like a silly question but, I just need to wrap my head around
a concept
Are my VMs limited by host or cluster resources?
4 hosts with the following resources per host:
2 6 core intel processors (24 cores per host)
32GB memory
1.2TB NFS storage
So across the cluster I have
96 cpu cores
128GB memory
4.8TB of NFS storage
Can I create a single VM with let's say:
25 cpu cores
64GB of RAM
2TB of storage
Am I limited by the host or the cluster? ( Keep in mind that I'm not
actually going to create such a ridiculous VM but the question is bothering
me). Thanks

[Users] oVirt or RHEV ?
by Martijn Grendelman
Hi,
This may be the wrong place to ask, but I'm looking for input to form an
opinion on an "oVirt or RHEV" question within my company.
I have been running oVirt for about 5 months now, and I'm quite
comfortable with its features and maintenance procedures. We are now
planning to build a private virtualization cluster for hosting clients'
applications as well as our own. Some people in the company are
questioning whether we should buy RHEV, but at this point, I can't see
the benefits.
Can anyone on this list shed a light on when RHEV might be a better
choice than oVirt? What are the benefits? The trade-offs?
I am looking for pragmatic, real-world things, not marketing mumbo
jumbo. That, I can get from redhat.com ;-)
Best regards,
Martijn.

Hello,=0A=
=0A=
all my searching/reading left me more confused. My current problem is=0A=
a Windows VM that has a wrong "timezone" - at least if I do not activate=0A=
internet time server sync.=0A=
=0A=
Settings are:=0A=
=0A=
- OVirt VM definition - First Run GMT+1 - thats ok=0A=
- hypervisor host: timezone CET (=3D GMT+1) - 18:00 - thats ok=0A=
- Windows VM: timezone CET ( =3D GMT+1) - 17:00 - thats wrong=0A=
=0A=
I got a thread that suggested to look at vm_dynamic. There we have:=0A=
=0A=
select a.vm_name,b.utc_diff from vm_static a, vm_dynamic b=0A=
engine-# where a.vm_guid=3Db.vm_guid;=0A=
vm_name | utc_diff=0A=
------------------+----------=0A=
Win7x64_Master | 0=0A=
=0A=
But what should that tell me?=0A=
=0A=
Although we work with timeservers inside the VMs we want to ensure=0A=
that even without them the VM time should match the hypervisor time.=0A=
=0A=
Has anyone a simple and clear explanation how this should work.=0A=
=0A=
Thanks in advance.=0A=
