[Users] connecting to oVirt/RHEV VMs through proxy and the oVirt API
by i iordanov
Hello,
My apologies for cross-posting, but this discussion concerns both mailing
lists, I think.
In Opaque, I recently started setting the proxy property of SpiceSession
from a console file, as is done in remote-viewer, in order to support
installations where the nodes are not "visible" from the point of view of
the client.
However, then I remembered that I have not seen the proxy property being
available through the oVirt/RHEV API. I looked at the latest remote-viewer
code, and I looked through the oVirt/RHEV API documentation, and indeed, I
see no way to get proxy information other than through the console.vv file.
If I am correct, then this means that both Opaque and remote-viewer cannot
connect to VMs behind a proxy unless a console.vv file is used, which also
means that since console.vv files are unobtainable through the User Portal
on mobile devices, mobile devices effectively cannot at all connect to such
VMs if the user is not an Administrator.
Would it be possible to expose the proxy parameter through the API? I
couldn't find a bug opened about this, but it doesn't mean it isn't there
:).
Thanks!
iordan

[Users] How to See Ovirt Console From a Remote Windows Host
by Jon Forrest
I know that this is simple for some of you, but I also
know from Googling around that lots of people have had
trouble seeing their ovirt console from a remote Windows
host. Below I describe what finally worked for me. I hope
this helps somebody avoid wasting as much time as I did
today.
I'm a fairly experienced VMWare user who's learning ovirt.
I just installed an all-in-one ovirt server and copied a
CentOS 6.5 iso into it. I then tried to boot a new VM
but soon learned that console access is different in ovirt
than on VMWare.
I then spent over an hour trying the various documented
ways to view a remote console using Spice on my Windows 7
desktop. I even tried using a Linux VM to see if the Firefox
plugin for Spice would work. Nothing.
What finally worked was installing the virt-viewer Windows
client (http://virt-manager.org/download/). Then, I opened
the ovirt Administration Portal in Firefox running on my
Windows 7 desktop. I created a new VM and configured it
the way I wanted. Then, from the "Virtual Machines" tab, I started
the new VM. Pretty soon the little console icon turned green so
I clicked on it. I got the prompt from Firefox asking me what
app I wanted to associate with the ".vv" URL that opened when
I clicked on the console icon. I browsed around and selected
\Program Files\VirtViewer\bin\remote-viewer.exe
which is from the virt-viewer client package I installed above.
I told Firefox to always use this app for this kind of file.
This works great! I was able to boot the CentOS system and
install it with no problems.
Good luck!

[Users] Unable to delete a snapshot
by Nicolas Ecarnot
Hi,
With our oVirt 3.3, I created a snapshot 3 weeks ago on a VM I've
properly shutdown.
It ran so far.
Today, after having shut it down properly, I'm trying to delete the
snapshot and I get an error :
"Failed to delete snapshot 'blahblahbla' for VM 'myVM'."
The disk is thin provisionned, accessed via virtIO, nothing special.
The log below comes from the manager.
I hope someone could help us because this server is quite serious.
Thank you.

[Users] oVirt Node Bootloader issue
by Nauman Abbas
Hello there
I'm facing this problem and this has happened to me multiple times on
different machines. I have two hard drives in my system (lets say HDD A and
HDD B). I boot the system from the oVirt node CD to install it. Now I want
the bootloader and the node installation both to go on HDD B and not HDD A.
When I get to the screen which asks me to select the hard-drive for
bootloader I use the arrow keys to select HDD B and press Enter (have also
tried pressing space or just use tab and continue while it's selected).
Then I get to the screen asking where to install the node. I select HDD B
and unselect HDD A. I keep the partitioning setup as default ( have also
tried manual and kept 5GB unused on HDD A). When I get to install part. It
installs the node fine on HDD B as expected but it always gets the
boot-loader on HDD A. This issue has wasted many of my days on different
machines and I can't seem to find a way around.

[Users] Post-Install Engine VM Changes Feasible?
by Joshua Dotson
Hi,
I'm in the process of installing 3.4 RC(2?) on Fedora 19. I'm using hosted
engine, introspective GlusterFS+keepalived+NFS ala [1], across six nodes.
I have a layered networking topology ((V)LANs for public, internal,
storage, compute and ipmi). I am comfortable doing the bridging for each
interface myself via /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*.
Here's my desired topology:
http://www.asciiflow.com/#Draw6325992559863447154
Here's my keepalived setup:
https://gist.github.com/josh-at-knoesis/98618a16418101225726
I'm writing a lot of documentation of the many steps I'm taking. I hope to
eventually release a distributed introspective all-in-one (including
distributed storage) guide.
Looking at vm.conf.in, it looks like I'd by default end up with one
interface on my engine, probably on my internal VLAN, as that's where I'd
like the control traffic to flow. I definitely could do NAT, but I'd be
most happy to see the engine have a presence on all of the LANs, if for no
other reason than because I want to send backups directly over the storage
VLAN.
I'll cut to it: I believe I could successfully alter the vdsm template (
vm.conf.in) to give me the extra interfaces I require. It hit me, however,
that I could just take the defaults for the initial install. Later, I
think I'll be able to come back with virsh and make my changes to the
gracefully disabled VM. Is this true?

Hi,
In the next 2 months 2 open source events will take place in Austria and
oVirt will be present in form of workshops, presentations and stands.
The first event is at the Grazer Linuxtage from April, 4th till April,
5th. These are the highlights from an oVirt perspective:
- Workshop: Installation and first steps with oVirt
- Talk: New features of oVirt (3.3/3.4)
- Stand: oVirt project stand with live demo system
For more information visit http://linuxtage.at/ (German website only)
The second event is at the Linuxwochen Vienna from May 8th till May
10th. These are the highlights from an oVirt perspective:

[Users] VM used FUSE mount point, are not used qemu-GlusterFS native integration
by Андрей Брагин
Hi, all
I created DC, use GlusterFS as the domain type.
And created Storage, with storage type "Data/GlusterFS"
But VM used FUSE mount point, are not used qemu-glusterfs native integration
When i looked at the running KVM processes, i saw
-drive file=/rhev/data-center/mnt/
glusterSD/vdsm01.cn.local:
local/35c541ad-bd48-4000-ad8f-8539629b7d75/images/9f3ecc5d-5d82-4e83-a89e-b298725e1d63/6a621ecc-715d-4a15-982c-05c618eefd36
But I expect to see
-drive file=gluster+tcp://

[Users] Reimporting storage domains after reinstalling ovirt
by Boudewijn Ector
Hi Guys,
Currently I've got a Centos machine running the latest ovirt-release.
This machine is using a local raid set containing a directory with
ovirt-based VMs from my previous install. The ovirt install is a
completely fresh install, no storage/VMs have been created yet.
What's the best way to reimport those? I might try to create a new
storage domain and copy all old VMs into it (if that works anyway...) ,
or just reimport the old domain from the web-interface.
Does either trick have any advantage, or is there a best practice I
should adhere to?
Cheers,
Boudewijn
