[OVIRT-3.5-TEST-DAY-3] dwh and reports on separate host
by Martin Sivak
Hi,
I installed fresh engine on CentOS 6.5 (inside a VM) and dwh + reports to other CentOS 6.5 VM.
Except being a bit confused by the certificate signing step during the setup all went well and I can see that the dwh service is running and I can access the reports site.
I started in the afternoon, because I had to reinstall my hosts first, so I might try poking around tomorrow as well. Also I do not have extra hosts atm, but I hope to have my nested virtualization environment back tomorrow to actually put some data to the reports.

Virtual Machines reporting as paused
by Thomas Scofield
A large number of my virtual machines are reporting in a paused state but
they are actually up and running. Unfortunately I don't look at this
cluster very often so I don't know exactly when it got into this state, I
believe it may have happened a couple months back when I deployed a change
to /etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf to throttle virtual machines migrations. I deployed
this change via puppet and had puppet cycle the vdsm daemon. All of the
vdsm daemons in the cluster were restarted in a short period of time. Since
this happened some time back all the logs have rotated off.
I have tried restarting vdsmd and libvirtd, but that doesn't appear to
return the virtual machines to an up state. The output of "vdsClient -s 0
getAllVmStats" reports them as paused, "virsh -r list --all" reports them
as running. From the GUI I can click run and the VM will show “Up” in the
GUI and vdsClient. But if I restart vdsm, the VM's revert back to
displaying a paused state. I did find that the *.recovery files in
/var/run/vdsm contain a status of Paused even when the GUI and vdsClient
are reporting it as up. I did try and change the status in this file while
vdsm was down and then start vdsm, but it had no effect and the entry in
the *.recovery file which reverted to paused.
p335
sasS'status'
p336
S'Paused'
Any idea what might have caused the VM's to report as paused and how to
recover from it?

utostarting VMs after restart
by Grzegorz Szypa
Hi,
where are located the scripts starting VMs in the environment oVirt?
I would like to add skrytpt taking off virtual machines to the list of
competing services during system startup. Is it possible to do such a thing?
So that the effect was evident starting in webmin-portal.

Cannot create disk image on storage domain NOT master
by Gabi C
Hello!
- 1 oVirt Engine (not hosted), 4 nodes, 3 in "Default" datacenter, 1 in a
local-storage type datacenter;
- Recently upgraded from 3.4.2 to 3.4.3;
"Default"Datacenter has, along "mandatory"ISO and Export domain, two
storage domains "storage_gluster2" aprox 550Gb and "storage_gluster3"
aprox 130 GB.
As you can guess :-), the three nodes serve also as gluster bricks, each
with 2 bricks in the above mentioned storage domains, both in replicated
mode.
Master domain is "storage_gluster3".
After create new VM, trying to add new disk on "storage_gluster2 ", which
is NOT master domain raise (ovirt-engine.log)

Spice client with engine portal

How do I get the spice client to connect to a VM through the portal instead of attempting to connect directly to the VM? For example. I allow access to the engine portal over our WAN to a NATed IP address. The users on the other side of the WAN do not have access to the real VM IP addresses. When they click on the console access button, they are unable to connect to the VM. I believe this is because it using attempting a direct connection instead of proxying through the portal.

oVirt Engine Virtual Appliance for 3.5 is ready for testing
by Fabian Deutsch
Hello!
The ready-to-use Engine appliance is now building again and should contain the the latest and greatest 3.5rc2 packages.
That appliance can be used for testing hosted engine, as well as testing oVirt Engine 3.5 in general.
The ova (intended to be used with hosted engine setup) and the qcow2 (intended to be used for testing) images can be found here:
http://jenkins.ovirt.org/view/All/job/ovirt-appliance_master_merged/
All relevant packages are pre-installed, but the appliance still needs to be configured.
To configure the appliance you need to run:
$ engine-setup --offline --config-append=ovirt-engine-answers
inside the appliance after downloading it.
Please let us know if you have any issues.
Greetings
fabian

Hi David,
Wow you're correct, I see that somehow it isn't installed.
To install it I just did the usual...
yum localinstall http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release34.rpm
yum install ovirt-engine
engine-setup
Not sure if I've perhaps missed a step?
Thanks.
Regards.
