Hi - I am a complete newb at Ovirt, but have setup my Ovirt manager and a h=
ost and connected them together.
I am basically looking to replicate in my lab with Ovirt what a simple VMwa=
re installation is doing.
I would like a single network or in vmware terms a vswitch, with two networ=
k cards in the node, both connected to trunked ports so that I can create p=
ort groups with different vlans, one for management, and one for VMs and po=
ssibly a DMZ vlan.
I have tried bonding the network interfaces, but there is also a bridge opt=
ion and I don't know what that does. I have read the ovirt docs on bonded =
interfaces and they are a little bit terse to actually get me started on th=
is.
If there is a better guide, or simple explanation to get me over this hurdl=
e I would appreciate it. Sorry for all the vmware terms as well, but I hav=
e worked with vmware for many years and it's the only virtual environment I=
know really well - but with their pricing models, I really need to start l=
ooking around now!
Thanks very much!

No Good Reporting tool / option for Ovirt
by Chandrahasa S
This is a multipart message in MIME format.

Dear All,
We see feature wise Ovirt is competing with Vmware. But in Performance
data collection / reporting Ovirt is really poor.
Ovirt reporting is never worked fine for me ( even Redhat report also in
same state).
I am not able trend my Host. Virtual machine, network, storage
utilization.
Even tried for Manageiq, but no luck, movement I add Ovirt with Manageiq
Ovirt console work dead slow.
Any solution here, without this using Ovirt is really risk.

Reachability problems after putting ovirtmgmt and Gluster on different networks
by Stefano Stagnaro
Hi, I have a question about an HostedEngine deployment. I followed the Jason's "oVirt 3.4, Glusterized" and it seems working. I've two host for virtualization (that also do the HA for the HostedEngine) and two other host for GlusterFS.
Now I would like to configure separate networks for the management and Gluster. On my Catalyst I've configured two VLANs with two different default gateways. My aim is to add the Gluster hosts with the IP of the "ovirtmgmt" and then add the storage domain pointing to the same host but using the IP of the "Gluster network".
Unfortunately, the HostedEngine has only one nic (on ovirtmgmt) and so I'm not able to reach the Gluster host with his "Gluster network" IP even if the L3-switch has all the networks configured. Reading this article http://brainscraps.wikia.com/wiki/Setup_Gateway_Routing_On_Multiple_Netwo... I believe the problem is on the Gluster host that only has the ovirtmgmt gateway.
I've found out that someone has tried to add a second nic on the HostedEngine by editing the /usr/share/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/templates/vm.conf.in "template" prior to start the deployment.
My question is: there is a better way to achieve this (I'm missing something for sure)? Is it worth having the ovirtmgmt separate to the storage? In production, I'll have five 1gbps ports per host (that could be bonded as preferred).
Thank you,

[QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.0 RC2 status
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We were supposed to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 RC2 today from 3.5 branch,
however we still have blockers open so we should postpone the build.
In order to re-schedule the build I need ETA on the open blockers, please provide it.
Maintainers:
- Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot satisfy release criteria[9]
- Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release
- If any patch must block the RC release please raise the issue as soon as possible.
The bug tracker [1] shows the following proposed blockers to be reviewed:
Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1138986 infra NEW UploadStreamVDSCommand fails using JsonRpc
1136843 network NEW NetworkManager ifups VDSM's dummy bond
1138731 network NEW firewall-cmd gets stuck when run as superVDSM subsubprocess
1138340 sla NEW vdsm relies on unsupported 'min_guarantee' VM configuration parameter
1129261 sla POST prepareImage api call fails with [Errno 2] No such file or directory
And the following dependencies still open:
Bug 1041569 - [NFR] libvirt: Returning the watermark for all the images opened for writing
Bug 1102881 - virDomainBlockCommit fails with live snapshots on oVirt block storage
The following bugs are keyworded as Regression and not marked as blockers[10]
Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1138983 NEW [CLI] Update template is not actually updating template.
1106435 infra NEW [AAA] builtin kerbldap provider does not show error if search fails
1138981 network POST no validation before calling to AddSubnetToProvider
1136895 network NEW Import VmTemplate fails
1116572 storage NEW [engine-backend] Storage domain activation isn't executed as part of storage domain creation
1138144 storage NEW Failed to autorecover storage domain after unblocking connection with host
1110444 ux POST bookmark selection does not work on first try
1133995 virt POST vm name field is misaligned on "new vm" pop up window
1138564 virt NEW Cloud-init files are ignored
1138314 virt NEW Fail to start vm with payload.
Feature freeze is now effective, and branch has been created.
All new patches must be backported to 3.5 branch too.
Features completed are marked in green on Features Status Table [2]
There are still 177 bugs [3] targeted to 3.5.0.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 148 bugs [4] targeted to 3.5.0.

Maintainers / Assignee:
- Please ensure that completed features are marked in green on Features Status Table [2]
- If you find a blocker bug please remember to add it to the tracker [1]
- Please fill release notes, the page has been created here [6]
- Please review and add test cases to oVirt 3.5 Third Test Day [7]
- Please update the target to 3.5.1 or later for bugs that won't be in 3.5.0:
it will ease gathering the blocking bugs for next releases.
Community:
- Due to the RC2 delay, the 3rd test day will be postponed, new date will be decided once ETA for closing current blockers is known.

Multiple datacenters design
by Finstrle, Ludek
<html><bodyHi,
I'm quite new to ovirt and I'm going to deploy ovirt into several tens
location all around world.
The connection between locations is neither dedicated nor 100% reliable
as it's connected via internet.
I'm going with Gluster storage domains mainly.
It's not important to me to do live migrations or even offline
migrations between locations (they're independent).
What's the best design and components from your point of view? I believe
I'm not the first one with such design.
I think about two possibilities:
1) One central Engine
- how to manage guests when connection drop between engine and node
- latency is up to 1 second is it ok even with working connection?
2) Engine in every location
- is it possible to have also one central point with information
from all engines together (at least read-only)?
- what about central reporting at least?
I like more one central Engine. My concern is how to work with consoles
and also just 1 ISO storage domain and 1 export storage domain (maybe
same hostname for ISO and export in every location). Another topic is
how to reach console/stop/start/migrate guest inside location while
there is connection down between the only Engine and nodes in the
location.
Thanks ahead for you experience/ideas,
Luf

Issues with Storage domain
by Carlos A. Diaz

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Hello everyone, its my first time here; so I hope I am on the right place
I had a problem where one of our SysAdmins cloned our NFS production export in order to create a new NFS export, but he didn't changed the FSID, so we ended up with 2 nfs exports using the same ID. I was able to roll back and recover the data, once I had corrected everything I went to the hosts and unpaused the VMs from the CLI (I lost the engine in the process), so now we are back up and running.
My problem right now is that oVirt says that our main storage domain is "Down" and I can't bring it up, so essentially I cannot start any VMs on that domain, which hosts 90% of our production environment; which is also scary because I am not sure how to recover from this error without affecting my production environment.
My guess is that at some point the MD5 hash changed, or something in the metadata for that Domain, but I don't know if this is the problem and if recreating the signature is possible without breaking my existing configuration.
Is there anyway to mark it as UP from the database or at any other level without breaking (more) the config?
Thanks in advance!
