I am having an issue in a Hosted Engine GlusterFS setup. I have 4 =
hosts in a cluster, with the Engined being hosted on the Cluster. This =
follows the pattern shown in the docs for a glusterized setup, except =
that I have 4 hosts. I have engine, data, iso and export storage =
domains all as glusterfs on a replica 3 glusterfs on the first 3 hosts. =
These gluster volumes are running on an SSD Hardware Raid 6, which is =
identical on all the hosts. All the hosts have a second Raid 6 Array =
with Physical Hard Drives and I have created a second data storage =
domain as a glusterfs across all 4 hosts as a stripe 2 replica 2 and =
have added it to the Data Center. However if I use this second Storage =
Domain as the boot disk for a VM, or as second disk for a VM that is =
already running, the VM will become non-responsive as soon as the VM =
starts using this disk. Happens during the OS install if the VM is =
using this storage domain for its boot disk, or if I try copying =
anything large to it when it is a second disk for a VM that has its boot =
drive on the Master Data Storage Domain. =20
If I mount the gluster volume that is this second storage domain on one =
of the hosts directly or any other machine on my local network, the =
gluster volume works fine. It is only when it is used as a storage =
domain (second data domain) on VMs in the cluster.
Once the vm becomes non-responsive it cannot be stopped, removed or =
destroyed without restarting the host machine that the VM is currently =
running on. The 4 hosts are connected via 10gig ethernet, so should =
not be a network issue.
Any ideas?

Re: [ovirt-users] Storage domain for Engine does not appear
by Oscar Segarra
Hi,
I don't understand why, but after creating a new storage pool, I have been
able to attach the engine to the datacenter.
Thanks a lot.

Storage domain for Engine does not appear
by Oscar Segarra
Hi,
I have created a 3 node gluster (replica 3) and I have made a fresh install
of the ovirt engine (4.0.5.5-1). The install process has finishes
successfuly but when I connect the ovirt engine the storage domain where
Engine lives does not appear.
If I try to import it, I'm able to make it appear but i cannot attach it to
a Data Center.
Has anyone experienced this issue?
Thanks a lot.

Did you attach a virtio / virtio-scsi driver to the VM?
If not, you can find them located under /usr/share/virtio-win/ in the
engine, you can upload them to an ISO domain using 'engine-iso-uploader'.

Cannot change notification settings for hosted engine in ovirt 4.0
by George Chlipala
I cannot seem to find any information on how to change the notification
settings, in particular the email adresses to which to send notifications
and the from address for the notifications. I have tried adding a file on
the engine itself in /etc/ovirt-engine/notifier/notifier.conf.d/ and
setting MAIL_FROM. I then restarted the ovirt-engine service, but notices
are still using the old configuration. I even tried restarting the VM, but
that did not have any effect. I have also tried editing
/var/lib/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/broker.conf however when I restart the
ovirt-ha-broker service, the file is overwritten.
I have found documentation about the shared configuration storage (
http://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/hosted-engine-co...),
however it is not clear to me where I would edit existing data in the
shared storage. Do I just untar the files, edit, then "retar" to the
shared storage? Do I need to set maintenance mode before editing? Should I
shutdown the engine? After I edit the files, do I just restart the
ovirt-ha-broker service or do I need to do something else?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: [ovirt-users] Snapshot self-hosted engine?
by Derek Atkins
Hi Martin,
Keep in mind this is a single host.. so.. is there a command line
operation I can run from the host to snapshot the running engine VM? Then
if then update fails I can revert (by command line) the running VM from
before the update. I don't mind getting my fingers dirty if I have to
script it.
I've used the "engine-backup" tool, but frankly IMHO a snapshot is a
better way to handle an immediate update, rather than having to completely
re-install the VM and restore from backup. This operation is exactly why
snapshots exist. :)
Thanks,
-derek

Fwd: Snapshot self-hosted engine?
by Martin Sivak
Hi Derek,
I do not think we support snapshots of the hosted engine VM at the
moment. There would be no way to restore from snapshot anyway in case
of failed upgrade (no engine would be running).
Please use the standard backup/restore procedures for the engine:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-virtualization/4.0/pag...
Best regards

Snapshot self-hosted engine?
by Derek Atkins
I'm running ovirt 4.0.4 on a single-host with (of course) self-hosted engine.
Ovirt seems to assume in many cases that there are multiple hosts around
so you can manipulate one host while the engine is running on another,
etc.
But in the single-host case.... how do you take a snapshot of the hosted
engine? When I click on Virtual Machines -> HostedEngine and then below
click on Snapshots and then Create, I get an error:
HostedEngine
* Cannot create Snapshot. This VM is not managed by the engine.
So... How can one snapshot the engine (e.g. prior to updating it)?

OVA import of FC21 VM hangs during virt-v2v conversion?
by Derek Atkins
Hi,
I've successfully imported several VMs already, so I thought I had the
process down. Each import completed relatively quickly. So that's why
this one was such a surprise.
I've got a Fedora 21 VM packaged into an OVA. I copy it to my ovirt
host and then [Virtual Machines] -> Import -> [OVA] and select the ova
file. Follow the process, assign the correct storage location, and let
it go. Usually it takes only a few minutes, but it's been sitting in
the conversion process for over 20 minutes already (multiple attempts
end in the same place). It's only a 4GB disk; the other imports were
all around the same size and took significantly longer.
I tried running virt-v2v by hand:
LIBGUESTFS_BACKEND=direct virt-v2v -v -x -i ova fedora21.ova -of raw -o null
and it hung here:
guestfsd: main_loop: new request, len 0x28
guestfsd: main_loop: proc 26 (aug_close) took 0.03 seconds
libguestfs: trace: v2v: aug_close = 0
libguestfs: trace: v2v: selinux_relabel "/etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts" "/" "force:true"
guestfsd: main_loop: new request, len 0x6c
commandrvf: stdout=n stderr=y flags=0x0
commandrvf: setfiles -F -e /sysroot/dev -e /sysroot/proc -e /sysroot/selinux -e /sysroot/sys -r /sysroot -q /sysroot/etc/selinux/targeted/contexts/files/file_contexts /sysroot/
Can't stat exclude path "/sysroot/selinux", No such file or directory - ignoring.
^C
Any ideas why this VM is different from all the other VMs?
