Install oVirt in CentOS 7 Node

Hi.
I have a host which I installed a Minimal CentOS 7 and turned into a
oVirt Node therefore it didn't come with Cockpit installed and
configured as it does in the oVirt-Node-NG.
Comparing both types of Hosts I have the following packages below in
each scenario.
The only package missing between both is "cockpit-ovirt-dashboard".
However I have already tried to install it and it was unable to show up
the Virtual Machines correctly and control them. Is any specific or
custom configuration needed in the cockpit config files to make it work
properly ?

move disk and lv not removed

Hello,
on an FC based environment I have a powered off VM
Select VM --> disks subtab --> select one disk of 20Gb
move
at the end of the move apparently all went ok, but right after the
"finished moving.." event I also get this error event

After that I also do the same for another disk of the same VM with size
80Gb and it completes ok, without the same event error.
So the problem doesn't occur always
It seem to me that the old disk (aka old lv) has remained as a left over.
And in fact the source storage domain doesn't show 20Gb of more free
space...

So it seems I have both the old LV on the original VG
(2255c544-165b-4126-86ee-70e6d1edef9a) and the LV on the VG related to the
target storage domain
Is there any bug opened for this? How can I clean situation?

Host fencing issues

Hello Team,
I updated one of my host on my cluster and after it finish and try to
activate the host it quickly claimed that the host was unresponsive and
it fenced the host... Now every time I try to activate the host it
clames that is unresponsive and proceeds to fence it... This was not
happening before the update....
The host is reachable with no problems nor issues...
Any ideas?
Centos 7.4 x86_64 host.

User cannot create VMs having sufficient permissions to do so

Hi,
We're running ovirt-4.1.6.2-1. We have a user that logs into the user
portal and tries to create a VM, but a message claiming that "There is
no Cluster on which you can create a VM. Please check Data Center status
and Cluster permissions." shows up.
However, this user has permissions on the cluster (both VmCreator and
DiskProfileUser, and also has a Quota created on the Cluster which
allows him to create VMs).
When clicking on the 'New VM' button, all we see in the engine.log is:

[org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.GetAllLabelsQuery] (default task-103)
[c23549c6-37a4-48d7-923d-6618e027cdca] Query execution failed due to
insufficient permissions.
This user has pretty much the same permissions as thousands of users who
can create VMs, but this one can't.
How can we debug what's happening and how to solve it?

Hosted Engine storage on management IP

But I saw hosted-storage volume which I had created for hosted-engine still
running on managment network.
Can I move that hosted-storage gluster volume on gluster network ?

Unresponsive instance

Dear Team,
After a power failure and restart, one of my instances would not display
properly from the Ovirt User Portal.
This error would scroll down the screen repeatly to infinitum.

I detached the boot disk and attached to another instance and ran
xfs_repair on it, to no avail.
The instance boots fine and I am able to access via XRDP.
When I try to access via spice or VNC I get the error.
Suggestions?

I've spent the last week trying to get Foreman to work (see SSL question
2017-10-11) but no one answers in their IRC or mailing list. So I tried
cobbler instead and I had it working in just a couple of hours! I'm
further along today than a week of foreman's constant problems. Hooray!
Here's where I am at now, if I manually configure a VM in Ovirt I can
provision it from Cobbler. Great!
What I would like to do is to have an easy way from Ovirt say "Grab this
cobbler profile and build me a new VM with this template". In my
searches on line, I haven't found anything like that. It seems the
closest I'm going to get is to use Koan. However, I've not found great
information for using Koan with Ovirt. My attempts so far of installing
Koan on the Ovirt Management host and trying to get it to provision have
all resulted in Koan trying to build a KVM _on_ the management host; not
in Ovirt.
Does anyone have any good documentation for setting up Cobbler
integration into Ovirt? Or at least getting Koan to work with the two?

GlusterFS performance questions

I am currently in the process of researching converting an existing SMB
infra to virtual. Ovirt/RHEV is a strong contender and checks off a lot
of boxes on our list. GlusterFS is appealing but I am finding it very
difficult to find any answers or stats/numbers regarding how well it can
perform as backend storage for VMs, especially VMs with medium to high
workloads, and possibly some or many in a dev environment where many small
files are interacted with very frequently.
>From my research on GlusterFS in general some people tend to say that it is
not the best performer and it's not the best choice for handling small
files. How true is this?
I understand that there are many variables such as hardware, drives, proper
configuration, internal network etc. but what I'm trying to avoid here is
going through the whole process of spendng a lot of money building out an
ovirt gluster with a proper SSD glusterFS configuration w/ 10gbe internal
network only to find out some day down the road that it cannot meet our I/O
needs.
Can anyone comment on how I can best determine the performance level to
expect from a typical ovrt w/ glusterfs replica 3 arbiter 1 configuration.
Or perhaps any use cases with people/companies running a similar setup in
production with high VM workloads?
Right now I'm leaning toward using a SAN due to the simplicity and
predictable performance. Although this will definitely cost a lot more
money for something that glusterFS *may* be able to handle.

FOSDEM18 Virt & IaaS Devroom CFP

call for proposals is now open for the Virtualization & IaaS devroom at the
upcoming FOSDEM 2018, to be hosted on February 3 and 4, 2017.
This year will mark FOSDEM’s 18th anniversary as one of the longest-running
free and open source software developer events, attracting thousands of
developers and users from all over the world. FOSDEM will be held once
again in Brussels, Belgium, on February 3 & 4, 2018.
This devroom is a collaborative effort, and is organized by dedicated folks
from projects such as OpenStack, Xen Project,, oVirt, QEMU, and
Foreman. We would like to invite all those who are involved in these fields
to submit your proposals by December 1st, 2017.
About the Devroom
The Virtualization & IaaS devroom will feature session topics such as open
source hypervisors and virtual machine managers such as Xen Project, KVM,
bhyve, and VirtualBox, and Infrastructure-as-a-Service projects such as
Apache CloudStack, OpenStack, oVirt, QEMU, OpenNebula, and Ganeti.
This devroom will host presentations that focus on topics of shared
interest, such as KVM; libvirt; shared storage; virtualized networking;
cloud security; clustering and high availability; interfacing with multiple
hypervisors; hyperconverged deployments; and scaling across hundreds or
thousands of servers.
Presentations in this devroom will be aimed at developers working on these
platforms who are looking to collaborate and improve shared infrastructure
or solve common problems. We seek topics that encourage dialog between
projects and continued work post-FOSDEM.

Submit Your Proposal
All submissions must be made via the Pentabarf event planning site[1]. If
you have not used Pentabarf before, you will need to create an account. If
you submitted proposals for FOSDEM in previous years, you can use your
existing account.
After creating the account, select Create Event to start the submission
process. Make sure to select Virtualization and IaaS devroom from the Track
list. Please fill out all the required fields, and provide a meaningful
abstract and description of your proposed session.
Submission Guidelines
We expect more proposals than we can possibly accept, so it is vitally
important that you submit your proposal on or before the deadline. Late
submissions are unlikely to be considered.
All presentation slots are 45 minutes, with 35 minutes planned for
presentations, and 10 minutes for Q&A.
All presentations will be recorded and made available under Creative
Commons licenses. In the Submission notes field, please indicate that you
agree that your presentation will be licensed under the CC-By-SA-4.0 or
CC-By-4.0 license and that you agree to have your presentation recorded.
For example:
"If my presentation is accepted for FOSDEM, I hereby agree to license all
recordings, slides, and other associated materials under the Creative

Speaker Mentoring Program
As a part of the rising efforts to grow our communities and encourage a
diverse and inclusive conference ecosystem, we're happy to announce that
we'll be offering mentoring for new speakers. Our mentors can help you with
tasks such as reviewing your abstract, reviewing your presentation outline
or slides, or practicing your talk with you.
You may apply to the mentoring program as a newcomer speaker if you:
Never presented before or
Presented only lightning talks or
Presented full-length talks at small meetups (<50 ppl)

Mentored presentations will have 25-minute slots, where 20 minutes will
include the presentation and 5 minutes will be reserved for questions.
The number of newcomer session slots is limited, so we will probably not be
able to accept all applications.

but won't write your presentation for you!
