Use of virtual disks

My first experience with this situation using oVirt.
I do come from using VMWare and have been also been using oVirt for several=
years.
We've also paid for RHEV, but migration is held up at the moment. I am tryi=
ng to prepare for that.
My problem is how it does not appear to be so simple to utilize the VM disk=
s. In VMWare it is so simple. Snapshot or not, in vSphere I can take the vi=
rtual disk file and use it for another VM when needed. It doesn't make sens=
e to me in oVirt. I have another entry here about my issue that lead to th=
is need, where I am not able to delete snapshot files for those disks I was=
attempting to live migrate and there was an issue... Now, the empty snapsh=
ot files are preventing some VMs from starting. It seems I should be able t=
o take the VM disk files, without the snapshots, and use them with another =
VM. But, that does not appear possible from what I can tell in oVirt.
I desperately need to get one specific VM going. The other two, no worries.=
I was able to restore from backup, one of the effected VMs. The third is n=
ot important at all and can easily by re-created.
Is anyone experienced with taking VM disks from one and using them (without=
snapshots) with another VM? I could really use some sort of workaround.
Thanks if anyone can come up with a good answer that would help.
-Robert L.

Reinitializing lockspace
by Jamie Lawrence
Hello,
I have a sanlock problem. I don't fully understand the logs, but from what I can gather, messages like this means it ain't working.
2018-02-16 14:51:46 22123 [15036]: s1 renewal error -107 delta_length 0 last_success 22046
2018-02-16 14:51:47 22124 [15036]: 53977885 aio collect RD 0x7fe5040008c0:0x7fe5040008d0:0x7fe518922000 result -107:0 match res
2018-02-16 14:51:47 22124 [15036]: s1 delta_renew read rv -107 offset 0 /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/sc5-gluster-10g-1.squaretrade.com:ovirt__images/53977885-0887-48d0-a02c-8d9e3faec93c/dom_md/ids
I attempted `hosted-engine --reinitialize-lockspace --force`, which didn't appear to do anything, but who knows.
I downed everything and and tried `sanlock direct init -s ....`, which caused sanlock to dump core.
At this point the only thing I can think of to do is down everything, whack and manually recreate the lease files and try again. I'm worried that that will lose something that the setup did or will otherwise destroy the installation. It looks like this has been done by others[1], but the references I can find are a bit old, so I'm unsure if that is still a valid approach.
So, questions:
- Will that work?
- Is there something I should do instead of that?
Thanks,
-j

Fwd: Fwd: why host is not capable to run HE?
by Artem Tambovskiy
Thanks Martin.
As you suggested I updated hosted-engine.conf with correct host_id values
and restarted ovirt-ha-agent services on both hosts and now I run into the
problem with status "unknown-stale-data" :(
And second host still doesn't looks as capable to run HE.
Should I stop HE VM, bring down ovirt-ha-agents and reinitialize-lockspace
and start ovirt-ha-agents again?
Regards,
Artem

cloud-init issue /IP address lost
by Shamam Amir
Hi All,
I am using a centos template which I had imported from
ovirt-image-repository. Whenever I make a VM from this template and
configure its initial run section and run it for the first time, everything
goes well. As long as I reboot the server, the VM lost its network
configuration (IP, gateway, dns) Then I have to put these parameters again
manually. In addition, when I shut down the VM and change its name, the
same problem happens again. This actually causes me pretty much long
downtime in order to configure the parameters again.
Your help is highly appreciated.
Best Regards

Spice Client Connection Issues Using aSpice

Hello,
I am having trouble connecting to my guest vm (Kali Linux) which is running=
spice. My engine is running version: 4.2.1.7-1.el7.centos.
I am using oVirt Node as my host running version: 4.2.1.1.
I have taken the following steps to try and get everything running properly=
.
1. Download the root CA certificate https://ovirtengine.lan/ovirt-engine=
/services/pki-resource?resource=3Dca-certificate&format=3DX509-PEM-CA
2. Edit the vm and define the graphical console entries. Video type is =
set to QXL, Graphics protocol is spice, USB support is enabled.
3. Install the guest agent in Debian per the instructions here - https:/=
/www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/guest-agent/install-the-guest-agent-in-=
debian/ It is my understanding that installing the guest agent will also i=
nstall the virt IO device drivers.
4. Install the spice-vdagent per the instructions here - https://www.ovi=
rt.org/documentation/how-to/guest-agent/install-the-spice-guest-agent/
5. On the aSpice client I have imported the CA certficate from step 1 a=
bove. I defined the connection using the IP of my Node and TLS port 5901.
To troubleshoot my connection issues I confirmed the port being used to lis=
ten.
virsh # domdisplay Kali
spice://172.30.42.12?tls-port=3D5901
I see the following when attempting to connect.
tail -f /var/log/libvirt/qemu/Kali.log
140400191081600:error:14094438:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:tlsv1 alert int=

((null):27595): Spice-Warning **: reds_stream.c:379:reds_stream_ssl_accept:=
SSL_accept failed, error=3D1
I came across some documentation that states in the caveat section "Certifi=
cate of spice SSL should be separate certificate."
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/pki/
Is this still the case for version 4? The document references version 3.2 =
and 3.3. If so, how do I generate a new certificate for use with spice? P=
lease let me know if you require further info to troubleshoot, I am happy t=
o provide it. Many thanks in advance.

4.2 aaa LDAP setup issue
by Jamie Lawrence
Hello,
I'm bringing up a new 4.2 cluster and would like to use LDAP auth. Our LDAP servers are fine and function normally for a number of other services, but I can't get this working.
Our LDAP setup requires startTLS and a login. That last bit seems to be where the trouble is. After ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup asks for the cert and I pass it the path to the same cert used via nslcd/PAM for logging in to the host, it replies:
[ INFO ] Connecting to LDAP using 'ldap://x.squaretrade.com:389'
[ INFO ] Executing startTLS
[WARNING] Cannot connect using 'ldap://x.squaretrade.com:389': {'info': 'authentication required', 'desc': 'Server is unwilling to perform'}
[ ERROR ] Cannot connect using any of available options
"Unwilling to perform" makes me think -aaa-ldap-setup is trying something the backend doesn't support, but I'm having trouble guessing what that could be since the tool hasn't gathered sufficient information to connect yet - it asks for a DN/pass later in the script. And the log isn't much more forthcoming.
I double-checked the cert with openssl; it is a valid, PEM-encoded cert.
Before I head in to the code, has anyone seen this?
Thanks,
-j
