Ceph Cinder QoS
by Matteo Dacrema
Hi All,
I’m running a 4.2 cluster with all VMs on Ceph using cinder external provider.
I’m trying to limit IOPS with cinder qos and volume type but it doesn’t work.
VM xml doesn’t show anything about <iotune>
Is it expected to work or is not implemented yet?
Thank you

Failure to upgrade Cluster Compatibility Version
by Jonathan Mathews
I have been upgrading my oVirt platform from 3.4 and I am trying to get to
4.2.
I have managed to get the platform to 3.6, but need to upgrade the Cluster
Compatibility Version.
When I select 3.6 in the Cluster Compatibility Version and select OK, it
highlights Compatibility Version in red, (image attached).
There are no errors been displayed on screen, or in
the /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log file.
Please let me know if I am missing something and how I can resolve this?
Thanks
Jonathan

Cannot activate storage domain
by Bruckner, Simone

Hi all,
we run a small oVirt installation that we also use for automated testing =
(automatically creating, dropping vms).
We got an inactive FC storage domain that we cannot activate any more. We s=
ee several events at that time starting with:
VM perftest-c17 is down with error. Exit message: Unable to get volume size=
for domain b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0 volume 686376c1-4be1-44c3-=
89a3-0a8addc8fdf2.
Trying to activate the strorage domain results in the following alert event=
for each host:
VDSM <hostname> command GetVGInfoVDS failed: Volume Group does not exist: (=
u'vg_uuid: 813oRe-64r8-mloU-k9G2-LFsS-dXSG-hpN4kf',)
And after those messages from all hosts we get:
VDSM command ActivateStorageDomainVDS failed: Storage domain does not exist=
: (u'b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0',)
Failed to activate Storage Domain VMHOST_LUN_205 (Data Center Production) b=
y <user>
Invalid status on Data Center Production. Setting status to Non Responsive.
Storage Pool Manager runs on Host vmhost003.fabagl.fabasoft.com (Address: v=
mhost003.fabagl.fabasoft.com), Data Center Production.
Checking the hosts with multipath -ll we see the LUN without errors.
We run oVirt 4.2.1 on CentOS 7.4. Hosts are CentOS 7.4 hosts with oVirt ins=
talled using oVirt engine.
Hosts are connected to about 30 FC LUNs (8 TB each) on two all-flash storag=
e arrays.
Thank you,
Simone Bruckner

Re: [ovirt-users] Ghost Snapshot Disk
by Lionel Caignec
Ok so i reply myself,
Version is 4.1.7.6-1
I just delete manually a snapshot previously created. But this is an io intensive vm, whit big disk (2,5To, and 5To).
For the log, i cannot paste all my log on public list security reason, i will send you full in private.
Here is an extract relevant to my error

Yes, please.
Can you detail a bit more regarding the actions you've done?
I'm assuming that since the snapshot had no description, trying to operate
it caused the nullPointerException you've got.
But I want to examine what was the cause for that.
Also, can you please answer back to the list?

Hello
Has anyone installed a Windows 10 Virtual Machine ?
I am having serious Console Performance issues even after installing the
Ted Hat QXL controller from the virtio-win ISO.
Someone informed in a forum having similar issues and have resolved by
increasing the graphics card memory to 65536 by editing the XML (example
below), but how is that possible in oVirt permanently ?
<video>
<model type='qxl' ram='131072' vram='131072' vgamem='65536'
heads='1'/>
<address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x02'
function='0x0'/>
</video>
Thanks
Fernando

ovirt 4.2 gluster configuration
by Edoardo Mazza
Hi all,
Scenario:
3 nodes each with 3 interfaces: 1 for management, 1 for gluster, 1 for VMs
Management interface has it own name and its own ip (es. name = ov1, ip=
192.168.1.1/24), the same is for gluster interface which has its own name
and its own ip (es. name = gluster1, ip= 192.168.2.1/24).
When configuring bricks from Ovirt Management tools I get the error: "no
uuid for the name ov1".
Network for gluster communication has been defined on network/interface
gluster1.
What's wrong with this configuration?
Thanks in advance.

ovirt 4.1 - skylake - no avx512 support in virtual machines
by Marco Lorenzo Crociani
Hi,
I can't access avx512* instruction set from virtual machines.
I have made a one server compute cluster to test new hardware:
oVirt 4.1.9
CentOS 7
Cluster CPU Type: Intel Skylake Family
Compatibility Version: 4.1
HOST:
CPU Model Name:Intel(R) Xeon(R) Platinum 8180 CPU @ 2.50GHz
Family: Family
CPU Type: Intel Skylake Family
Virtual Machine settings
A) VM:
Custom CPU Type: Use cluster default(Intel Skylake Family)
General Tab shows: Guest CPU Type: Skylake-Client
avx512: NO
B) VM:
Custom CPU Type: Skylake-Client
General Tab shows: Guest CPU Type: Skylake-Client
avx512: NO
C) VM:
Custom CPU Type: Use cluster default(Intel Skylake Family) [grey -
cannot modify]
Migration mode: Do not allow migration
Pass-Through Host CPU
General Tab shows: Guest CPU Type: Skylake-Client
avx512: YES ( cat /proc/cpuinfo |grep avx512: avx512f avx512dq
avx512cd avx512bw avx512vl )
Using pass-through host cpu (disabling vm migration) is the only way to
access avx512 in a VM, is it a bug or am I missing something?
Regards,

oVIRT 4.1 / iSCSI Multipathing
by Devin Acosta
I am using the latest release of oVIRT 4.1.3, and I am connecting a Dell
Compelent SAN that has 2 fault domains each on a separate VLAN that I have
attached to oVIRT. From what I understand I am suppose to go into “iSCSI
Multipathing” option and add a BOND of the iSCSI interfaces. I have done
this selecting the 2 logical networks together for iSCSI. I notice that
there is an option below to select Storage Targets but if I select the
storage targets below with the logical networks the the cluster goes crazy
and appears to be mad. Storage, Nodes, and everything goes offline even
thought I have NFS also attached to the cluster.
How should this best be configured. What we notice that happens is when the
server reboots it seems to log into the SAN correctly but according the the
Dell SAN it is only logged into once controller. So only pulls both fault
domains from a single controller.
Please Advise.

Can't move/copy VM disks between Data Centers

Hi,
I have oVirt setup, separate PC host engine + 2 nodes (#10 + #11) with =
local storage domains (internal RAIDs).
1st node #10 is currently active and can=E2=80=99t be turned off.
Since oVirt doesn=E2=80=99t support more then 1 host in data center with =
local storage domain as described here:
http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2018-January/086118.html =
<http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2018-January/086118.html>
defined another data center with 1 node #11.
Problem:=20
1) can=E2=80=99t copy or move VM disks from node #10 (even of inactive =
VMs) to node #11, this node is NOT being shown as possible destination.
2) can=E2=80=99t migrate active VMs to node #11.
3) Added NFS shares to data center #1 -> node #10, but can=E2=80=99t =
change data center #1 -> storage type to Shared, because this operation =
requires detachment of local storage domains, which is not possible, =
several VMs are active and can=E2=80=99t be stopped.
VM disks placed on local storage domains because of performance =
limitations of our 1Gbit network.=20
2 VMs running our accounting/inventory control system, and are critical =
to NFS storage performance limits.
How to solve this problem ?
Thanks in advance.

VM paused rather than migrate to another hosts
by Terry hey
Dear all,
I am testing iSCSI bonding failover test on oVirt, but i observed that VM
were paused and did not migrate to another host. Please see the details as
follows.
I have two hypervisors. Since they are running iLO 5 and oVirt 4.2 cannot
support iLO 5, thus i cannot setup power management.
For the cluster setting, I set "Migrate Virtual Machines" under the
Migration Policy.
For each hypervisor, I bonded two iSCSI interface as bond 1.
I created one Virtual machine and enable high availability on it.
Also, I created one Virtual machine and did not enable high availability on
it.
When i shutdown one of the iSCSI interface, nothing happened.
But when i shutdown both iSCSI interface, VM in that hosts were paused and
did not migrate to another hosts. Is this behavior normal or i miss
something?
Thank you all of you.
Regards,
Terry Hung
