How to list all snapshots?

Hello everyone! First, I would like to thank everyone involved in this wonderful project. I leave here my sincere thanks! Does anyone know if it is possible to list all snapshots automatically? It can be by ansible, python, shell... any way that helps to list them all without having to enter Domain by Domain. Thank you all!

Hi Team, when I want to commit the older snapshots I'm getting warning stating " Existing snapshots that were taken after this one will be erased.". is there any way we can retain the latest snapshots as is in the chain? I knew cloning and template export options are there to secure that latest snapshot data but these are will consume additional space in storage and take time.

Host deploy failure: Configure OVN for oVirt

Good day, I am running into a problem during host deploy via the oVirt engine GUI since upgrading to ovirt-engine-4.5.5-1.el8. The "Configure OVN for oVirt" task seem to fail when trying to run the vdsm-tool ovn-config command. Host deploy used to work fine when the engine was on version 4.5.4. Anyone that can guide me on the right path to get past this issue? Unable to access ovirt Admin Screen from ovirt Host

I've reinstalled ovirt 4.4 on my server remotely via cockpit terminal. I'm able to access the ovirt admin screen remotely from the laptop that I used for the install. However, using the same URL I'm unable to gain access to the admin screen. Following the instruction in the documentation I've modified the file: /etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/99-custom-sso-setup.conf, to reflect the DNS name and I enter in the IP address. But I'm still unable to access the screen from the server console. What else needs to change in order to gain access from the server console? Thanks

Hello, running ovirt Version 4.5.4-1.el8 on Centos 8, randomly we have this error: VM has been paused due to no Storage space error. We have plenty of space on the iSCSI storage. This is a preallocated disk, VirtIO-SCSi. No user interaction. It happens, so far, with 3 VM, Windows and Ubuntu. Hi all, my ovirt cluster has got 3 Hypervisors runnig Centos 7.5.1804 vdsm is 4.20.39.1-1.el7, ovirt engine is 4.2.4.5-1.el7, the storage systems are HP MSA P2000 and 2050 (fibre channel). I need to stop one of the hypervisors for maintenance but this system is the storage pool manager. For this reason I decided to manually activate SPM in one of the other nodes but this operation is not successful. oVirt CLI tool for automation tasks

We recently migrated from VMware to oVirt. I am looking for any CLI tool well suited for my automation tasks like VM create, clone, migrate 100s of Virtual machines in oVirt cluster. with VMware I was using govc (vSphere CLI built on top of govmomi). Another option I read is powercli, quite unsure if it works with oVirt. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello I'm using Oracle Linux with ovirt-engine 4.5.5-1.22.el8 Operating System: Oracle Linux Server 8.10 Kernel: Linux 5.15.0-301.163.5.2.el8uek.x86_64 After upgrading from ovirt-engine version 4.5.5-1.21.el8 to version 4.5.5-1.22.el8, there seems to be an issue with uploading images. When trying to test the connection for uploading images using Storage -> Domains -> MyStorage -> Disks -> Upload I debugged network communication in "chrome inspect" and received the error: "Refused to connect to https://ovirt-engine:54323/info/ because it appears in neither the connect-src directive nor the default-src directive of the Content Security Policy." Has anyone encountered this problem? I have the CA certificate properly imported since version 4.5.5-1.21.el8, where the uploads worked normally. Regards Jiri

Adding ISO doesn't work

I have a problem adding ISO. Fresh installation of OracleLinux-R8-U10 with Ovirt Version:4.5.5-1.22.el8 installed on it. I've already gone through all possible forums and threads with a similar problem, but none of them have been solved, and I haven't been able to solve the ISO problem either. Engine is installed as a virtual machine on VMware and manages two KVM hosts (also a fresh install). I replaced the certificates for the test, but it didn't help and I went back to the old configuration. I keep getting a certificate error when running the test, even though I added it to the browser. I tested on different browsers. "Connection to ovirt-imageio service has failed. Ensure that ovirt-engine certificate is registered as a valid CA in the browser." Can I get help here?

Need advice before building a new oVirt Environment

My question will be down below but before that here is some background info: I currently have a functioning oVirt env (v4.5.7) with two self-hosted nodes (hand-me-down servers) and shared storage (TrueNAS server) with three data domains: one for the EngineVM (iSCSI), one for the VMs (iSCSI) and one for ISO files (NFS). The powers that be, want to move away from TrueNAS and hand-me-downs and have new servers and a new NAS appliance (most likely NetApp). They are the ones who did not want to spend the money on new gear but now they have changed their minds. I wish that I could have started my oVirt env on the new equipment. This new equipment will take at best 2 months to arrive. In the meantime, I have to create various VMs in my existing environment. Once my new gear arrives, what is the recommended approach: 1 - Start from scratch with a new datacenter/cluster env? Can I migrate VMs from one DC to another? The docs seem to say no. I'm guessing, I would have to export first, then import. 2 - Can my new equipment be part of the same DC but a different cluster? I was thinking that option #2 is the right approach. I could start with storage (ie: new NetApp) as part of the new cluster. Once that is part of the cluster, I can add hosts then finally migrate VMs. What say you? thank you in advance.

Preparing to issue an oVirt release post Red Hat offboarding

Hi, Oracle fixed CVE-2024-7259 ( https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine/security/advisories/GHSA-8xjm-j7fq-3w… ) in oVirt Engine and would be nice to issue an oVirt Engine release including the fix. As the current master also includes support for new cluster level 4.8, VDSM needs to be released as well providing cluster level 4.8. As you know, Red Hat offboarded the project and as such there are no more people officially assigned to the project from the company, despite a few of the historical developers still spend some of their free time helping out. I can help building the packages and getting them out on my free time but I have no capacity for doing any testing or documentation updates or release notes related to this release. Last oVirt Engine (4.5.6) was also released last February without any formal release announce. Any volunteer to look into differences between current master and current stable release and see if anything else needs to be released other than ovirt-engine and vdsm? Any volunteer to write release notes and update the website accordingly? Any volunteer to run ovirt-system-test on https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine/pull/970 and https://github.com/oVirt/vdsm/pull/422 as OST doesn't run anymore on GitHub? Regards, -- Sandro Bonazzola

Installation of hosts on RHEL9

Hi, I’m migrating to oVirst 4.7 and RHEL9. The engine is up and running but I have problems testing adding new hosts. It fails running the command: sudo vdsm-tool ovn-config $IP $FQDN. The message is Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/vdsm/tool/ovn_config.py", line 118, in get_network return networks[net_name] KeyError: '$FQDN' And indeed if I print net_caps in the method net_caps of ovn_config, it says: {'networks': {} ... I have been unable to understand where this information is coming from, what is missing in my host ? Are they the networks as configured in the engine ?

HostedEngine VM doesn't start because in QXL video type mode

Hi, I don't know how this happened but after an host reboot, the HostedEngine VM didn't started anymore. The error in the log is: "unsupported configuration: domain configuration does not support video model 'qxl'" This is a single host test environment, OS is Rocky 9.4, so I know it's expected that QXL video is not supported anymore. I tried editing the HostedEngine VM configuration via virsh, but when I start the VM it keeps trying to use QXL. Also the VM conf in "/var/run/ovirt-hosted-engine-ha/vm.conf" says the video type is always QXL. I tried dumping the XML configuration, edit the XML, undefined e re-define the VM from the updated XML, but still it uses QXL!!! I'm resigned myself that the only solution is to re-deploy the HostedEngine from scratch. Unless some of you can provide an alternative solution. Many thanks in advance Mario

Thinking perhaps I need to update the KVM hosts too I proceeded with the update document listed above but even with the hosts updated nothing has changed. Add existing KVM host to oVirt

Hello, I just installed oVirt as a standalone Manager with local databases and i deployed it on a VM thats inside the KVM host i want to add to it. I get its not best practoce but its for a personal lab and i setup ssh to only allow root from the vm where oVirt is installed...anyways i attempted to add the host but its failing with this error ... No package ovirt-hosted-engine-setup available ... to make "ovirt-hosted-engine-setup" available im assuming i have to enable the repositories (Following this guide https://ovirt.org/download/install_on_rhel.html) to make it available but will doing all that allow me to add the kvm host which already has VMs deployed on it able to be managed by ovirt? would this help me achieve what im trying todo? https://ovirt.org/documentation/installing_ovirt_as_a_standalone_manager_wi… Thanks in advance

Yes, not only a desire to replicate the functionality of V-Switches on VM-Ware, but also to have an isolated test environment. Create a virtual firewall (using Opensense or pfSense or something) and create VMs behind the firewall that can all talk to each other, but the firewall only passes out the application traffic (for example a web app on Nginx, or Remote Desktop to the private Environment). Microsoft Hyper-V has "private" and "internal" switches that can be set up, (and thats the case on either a standalone or a cluster) so I figured oVirt must have something similar if not the same. these may or may not necessarily be tagged to a VLAN on a physical switch. Hello. I did installed "ovirt-node-ng-installer-latest-el9.iso" and that is all. I'm able to login now to Cockpit on port 9090 but only when I manualy set ip adress in form. https://{ip_address}:9090/={ip_address}/system There is no way to login normaly. When I just try https://{ip_address}:9090 then it want to login to Server: some-hostname-ovirt and it doesn't work. I should do reverse engineering to understand why it doesn't work but I don't have time for it at the moment. In my configuration I need to use specific VLAN in network configuration. Maybe that is why there is no way to login. I have never used Keycloak. I'm not new in Linux world but I'm a noob in RHEL world. I would prefer to use Proxmox instead of trying to configure oVirt but it will not work with MegaRaid unless I will reflash the controller. Debian have huge problems with Praid CP400i and my old server still have some potential to be working as VM host. Is there any tutorial what to do in oVirt? Maybe some oVirt for absolute dummies? Is oVirt the kind of system that needs to be carved in marble? I'm not able to do advanced stuff on it now. It will take me a lot of time to get to this point. At the moment I'm interested in creation basic server for VM to see will it work fine but it seams it is not so easy to start with.

Hello what about the implication of team.blue which announced a job advert to continue to develop ovirt? It has been published in July but is not available anymore. It is sad to say that without professional dev such a big project can't really be long-term. Really great project but to complex to be maintained by volunteers on their free time. Importing Storage Domain's Export from one Data Center to Another

Is it possible to perform disaster recovery importing a Storage Domain's Export from one Data Center to another in a manually fashion without Ansible? I'm trying to import Data Center 1's Storage Domain Export by cloning the storage domain export and importing it into Data Center 2's environment through IP address & NFS name within the oVirt's web portal. However, I receive this error message: there is no storage domain under the specified path. Below is what I have done to tried to troubleshoot the issue. After looking into the documentation, I haven't seen information for this method. Should I consider another option? Is there a preferred way of testing DR within an environment? -I have detach both of the export storage domains from both data centers before importing the cloned export. -Changing import settings -I have adjusted the metadata information within the cloned export after mounting it and reviewing the logs.

Dear, I would like help with the following question: I need to migrate my oVirt Engine and oVirt Hosts from CentOS 8 to CentOS 9. My plan is to back up the database using the engine-backup command. For example: engine-backup --mode=backup --file=db_backup My next step will be to install the oVirt Engine on CentOS 9 and restore the backup. For example: engine-backup --mode=restore --file=db_backup --log=backup_restore.log --change-db-credentials --db-host=didi-lap --db-user=engine --db-password=your_password --db-name=engine Finally, I will add a new oVirt Host with CentOS 9 and migrate the virtual machines. Are there any considerations I should be aware of? Could you please guide me?

Hello. Why there is no info on oVirt website about installation process and how to login? Ideas like: ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user password-reset admin --password-valid-to="2035-12-31 12:00:00Z" are not helpfull because ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool: command not found Is there a way to use this system? I have no idea why Linus Torvalds don't like Debian... it is a loot simpler than the other systems.

# ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool -bash: ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool: command not found I did manage to login to Cockpit using IP address: https://{ip}:9090/={ip}/system/services It had problems with hostname. I'm not sure why. It may be related with hardware firewall configuration and multiple vlans I use. Cockpit works with root and password but only if ip address is given. I did also try using login with @ sight and it didn't help. Command ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool doesn't work. I also can't install nano, "ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool", and mc. But internet connection is working and I can resolve DNS addresses. Maybe RHEL type of Linux is not so bad but I'm not familiar with it.

I been trying to install 4.5.5 testing and used the node installer iso. I cant login what is the username and password I have tried what others have done in the forums with no luck admin@ovirt . root admin . Also can the engine be installed from the node via the cockpit still? How can I get logged in to do this? I have used 4.3 and didnt have any of these problems. It was really simple to do. Any suggestions? grazie

Lost console access to VMs after updating

We have a couple OLVM instances. Completely separate with their own managers (ovirt-engine). One is lab and one is prod. I updated the lab engine from 4.5.4-1.0.31.el8 to 4.5.5-1.22.el8 and as soon as that was done and it rebooted I no longer can open VM consoles. This was the update process followed: https://docs.oracle.com/en/virtualization/oracle-linux-virtualization-manag… In troubleshooting I checked for the SASL db which appears to be /etc/libvirt/passwd.db # grep sasldb_path /etc/sasl2/libvirt.conf sasldb_path: /etc/libvirt/passwd.db I can verify the vdsm user and realm is in there # sasldblistusers2 -f /etc/libvirt/passwd.db vdsm@ovirt: userPassword We are using noVNC in the browser and when I click on a vm and then console it opens a new window and just has the "connecting" message. I switched to Native VNC client and downloaded the console.vv file which looks normal inside and when I try and open it with vnc viewer or remote-viewer etc. I get a window that connects, authenticates with the password found in the console.vv but then presented with a display that says "Guest has not initialized the display (yet)." Thinking perhaps I need to update the KVM hosts too I proceeded with the update document listed above but even with the hosts updated nothing has changed. If I tail /var/log/messages when opening a console connection all I see is this: Oct 14 10:33:52 olvm2 kernel: sd 6:0:0:1: Warning! If I check the VM guest log when opening a console I get nothing. tail -f /var/log/libvirt/qemu/<vm_hostname>.log Has anyone else run into this issue when updating? Centos 8 and 1 on Centos 9 Ovirt node image, and if my ovirt-backup machine running on host with centos 9 Ovirt Node i have the same error that mentioned above, but if i migrate my ovirt-backup to another host with Centos 8 do not have this problem. Thanks Marcos, I verified VNC encryption had not been turned on at the Cluster level as you described. I used the UI and put each host into maintenance mode one at a time and then chose the reinstall option. After it was done and the host rebooted I tested again and no change. I still have no consoles to any VMs. Malcolm

I'm trying to add 3 more nodes to an active cluster. 3 previous nodes are working fine. I've tried 2 new nodes and they get the same error. It seems strange to me cause the volume is mounted. freezing VMs

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone is experiencing freezing VMs? Especially Windows servers and especially with a lot of RAM. I found the following here: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/vms-freeze-with-100-cpu.127459/page-11 Post #218 and further down are really interesting, as the conclusion is that there might a problem in kernels between 4.18.0-372.26.1 all the way up to Mainstream 6.3 or LTS 6.1 kernels. The problem appears to be, that mmu_notifier_seq is referenced as an integer in the is_page_fault_stale() function, causing KVM to freeze when the counter reaches max integer - 2,147,483,647. Post #220 seems to state, that it was fixed in commit ba6e3fe25543 in the kernel. The problem is, that the latest kernel of my nodes running on Centos 8 are running 4.18.0-408.el8.x86_64, which is affected. I could try and downgrade on those nodes, but would lock me to the unsupported CentOS 8 oVirt nodes. I tried a new oVirt node based on CentOS 9, en it comes with 5.14.0-514.el9.x86_64, which is also affected by the looks of it. I tried upgrading the kernel on CentOS 9 to the latest 6.1 LTS kernel og the latest 6.11 Mainstream kernel, and while the node works fine, it does not work for oVirt. The node cannot be activated, once the new kernel is in use. Is I'm a fixer and not a develloper, I think the task migh be too big for me to fix ovirt and make it work with 6.1/6.3 kernels. My last attempt is going to be an attempt to backport the fix to the 5.14 kernel supplied with oVirt based on CentOS 9 nodes. I know... I should probably look for a new solution, but oVirt has been running our many VMs quite well, at an affordable price. Yes we have more work fixing various issues that pop up from time to time, but if left alone, it does work quite well and stable. Has anyone else encountered these issues? //J

Importing Storage Domain's Export from one Data Center to Another Data Center

Is it possible to perform disaster recovery importing a Storage Domain's Export from one Data Center to another in a manually fashion without Ansible? I'm trying to import Data Center 1's Storage Domain Export by cloning the storage domain export and importing it into Data Center 2's environment through IP address & NFS name within the oVirt's web portal. However, I receive this error message: there is no storage domain under the specified path. Below is what I have done to tried to troubleshoot the issue. After looking into the documentation, I haven't seen information for this method. Should I consider another option? Is there a preferred way of testing DR within an environment? Thank you. -I have detach both of the export storage domains from both data centers before importing the cloned export. -Changing import settings -I have adjusted the metadata information within the cloned export after mounting it and reviewing the logs.

iSCSI Storage Issue - move Hosts!?

Hello everyone, I am currently trying to set up my VM environment again. Status now: Host1 + iSCSI storage connection Plan: Host2 + same iSCSI storage as above Now i want to move all VMs to Host2, Host2 is already included and I can start all VMs on Host2. Problem: Storage -> Manage Domain: Host1 is connected to the storage here. I have no possibility to switch to Host2. What happens if I now put Host1 into maintenance mode or delete it completely? Will all my systems then crash because the storage connection has been lost?

Connect to hypervisor node with Virt-Manager

Hello, I can connect directly to one of my hypervisor node using Virt-manager with this auth: Login: vdsm@ovirt Password: shibboleth I then get a listing of the machines on the node. However, if I try to open the VM console, I'm prompted for another password... I have no idea what password to use. Any ideas? Thanks.
