About 6 months ago I asked on this list if it was possible to install ovirt on a single host. Thread got long and winded and lost interest. Started looking at the project again about two days ago. What I really didn't understand was using a base Fedora install. Installing vdsm and then installing ovirt engine. So everything is up. Created data center, storage, cluster, host and virtual machine. But I can't get there from here. I can't get console running to configure the booted install. I've tried VNC, Spice, Firefox with spice-xpi plugin. Tried tweaking, turning, touching, swearing @ /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf settings. tls settings. Not even sure if this is the right place to be checking. This is a show stopper. [Users] Problem running virtual machines

I am not sure if the source of the problem is oVirt or KVM/qemu but the machines run really slow since some days ago. There are some warnings regarding iscsi storage latency in the oVirt portal but the behaviour is also present with NFS storage. There are no visible errors either in engine.log or vdsm.log. Var/log/messages in the node shows over and over: /usr/sbin/irqbalance: Load average increasing, re-enabling all cpus for irq balancing and, after a while, waits in the node rise over 50%. It finally leads to a disconnection of the SPM node and a non-operational state. Has anyone any ideas why this happens? Hello, Can somebody please tell how i get the activex console working. I installed the ovirt-engine 3.1 on a fedora 17 and used de beta repo. I have 2 ovirt-nodes 3.0. The datacenter is up. When i want to open a desktop vm, i don't get a activex popup and the console will not open, the linux xpi works well. I googled but i can't find a clear answer why it don't work. Thanks in advance. It comes with a web interface to create and manage virtual machines, hypervisor nodes, storage, ... and with a user portal for those who just want to connect to an already existing virtual machine. The way the user portal works is that you log into the portal from your browser, then you choose the virtual machine you want to connect to, and a browser plugin will take over and spawn an external binary (these days it's remote-viewer) oVirt also comes with an extensive REST API which lets you do programmatically the same thing as you can do from oVirt web UIs. Moreover, it has an extensive documentation. But what about GNOME? And now we are finally coming as to why I'm talking about all of this :) Lately, I've been hacking on Boxes, and since one of its goals is to view, access, and use shared connection / machine, I've decided it would be fun to make it support oVirt connections! This would make it easier for Boxes users to connect to oVirt virtual machines without having to go through their browser. librest already provides a good low-level GObject library to access REST services (though it was missing authentication support), so I used it to build a higher level library which wraps the oVirt REST accesses: libgovirt. This library uses GObject and gobject-introspection, which gives bindings to several other languages for free (including vala which is needed for Boxes). It also provides asynchronous methods for all its remote operations. The library is still young and only implements the few REST operations I needed (list oVirt virtual machines, get VM connection details, generate temporary VM display password, ...), but this is enough for Boxes needs ;) Once this library was in good shape, using it in Boxes was quite easy as the existing code was modular enough. All I had to do was to add a new URI type (ovirt://), and add a new Machine subclass to handle oVirt VMs, but most of the work is done by the libgovirt library. This work is not yet merged upstream but can be seen in my personal git repository. After some small cleanups and a libgovirt release, it should be in good shape for an upstream review and integration. As for libgovirt, there is a lot of API to bind (help welcome!), but binding this new 3.1 API will be mandatory to be able to connect to all oVirt-managed VMs. One possible way forward for libgovirt would be to leverage the python oVirt REST binding generator from ovirt-engine-sdk. vdsm service requires 36:36 permissions on the dir (storage side) else it will fail with permission error. even if you give full r/w to all, but the owner of the dir is not vdsm you will fail with permission error (you will be able to mount as root or any other user but not vdsm). Can you please try to chown 36:36 and if you are still failing with permission error let us know along with vdsm+engine logs. [Users] Ovirt 3.1 beta on fedora 17. Can't create ISO/NFS domain

Hi, I am getting this when I try to create a ISO/NFS domain: Permission settings on the specified path do not allow access to the storage. Verify permission settings on the specified storage path.: 'path = /rhev/data-center/mnt/79.xxx.xxx.xxx:_volumes_archives_proxmox_template_iso' I can manually mount the nfs share with "mount 79.xxx.xxx.xxx/volumes/archives/proxmox/template/iso" without any problem both on the engine and vdsm host machine. I also captured the traffic with tcpdump while adding iso domain via webadmin. It seems nfs server sends directory contents to vdsm host then vdsm host brakes connection. Any advice on this? Good evening, I had installed the 3.1 beta version. After an update of Fedora 17, the portal does not show any links. I reckon that ovirt-engine version has been upgraded to 3.1.0-1.fc17. [Users] VDSM and RHEL problem

Hello, I am running Ovirt 3.1 and everything was running well but then I decided to upgrade to a system with more memory for the engine and now the VDSM version dropped to 3.1 and the RHEL is complaining that there is no compatible pc. This wasnt a problem before and I tried to go back to the old system but now both of them are giving the same error. Anyone have any ideas what I should be looking to fix here? I am not sure if the 2 problems are related, I am running CentOS 6.3, Ovirt 3.1 and using the dreyou builds. Thanks -- Jonathan H Cox

Hi Guys, Hope you are all well. I am currently putting together a test rig to use this software in my company for VM maanagement. I am using AWS to host this at the moment. I am having trouble adding a new host. When I enter the details and click ok I recieved an error telling me I cannot add host. Failed to create SSH...... If anybody has managed to succesfully configure this on AWS and/or provide some pointers would be much appreciated. Many thanks folks! Jamie

Hmm, I'm going to do some research here... Story is that the first LUN I attached was 30 Gb. Since the LUN's are attached by the same Fc HBA and same port, it is most likely that they get the same device name, even if I change the LUN behind, in the SAN controller. Do someone know something about this? Is it likely that the HV system save some LUN/device information in it's system LUN? So that it reports the same size of the LUN that it was originally? I am going to remove the LUN again, and take away the LUN mapping, so the HV can't see it. Then I will make a new LUN of different size again, and check if it has the same device name, and also check what size it reports. I would appreciate if someone with deeper knowledge than me about these things could shed some light here... If not, it is not very good, because most SAN's provide thin provisioned LUN's nowaday's... It does but the limitation is at least 10GB for block storage device.
