Hi All, I am currently using RC build of oVirt3.3 and I am facing some issues : 1. Not able to access the VM console. 2. Not able to attach ovirtNode. 3. Hi, I'm interested to know whether it is possible to obtain a VM's name from within a VM. In particular I'd like to obtain VM names from within Linux guests for the purpose of setting up dynamic DNS based on the VM name. I don't see the VM name in the output of dmidecode and there doesn't appear to be an entry in the ovirt guest API to obtain it. (In any case I can't run the ovirt guest agent on my VMs, so I'd like some other way to get it.) Thanks! -- Jonathan Daugherty Software Engineer Galois, Inc.

[Users] CentOS 6 and multiple ISCSI interfaces/multipath

Hi all, I've recently started looking at oVirt to provide the next iteration of our virtualization infrastructure, as we have recently acquired some ISCSI storage. Up to now, we've been using KVM managed by libvirt/virt-manager locally on each of our hosts, using direct attached storage, which was obviously less than ideal. In setting it all up, I've hit a bit of a snag. We've got 4 GbE network interfaces on our pilot host (running vdsm on CentOS 6.4) which are connected to our storage arrays (equallogic). I've created 4 interfaces with iscsiadm for these and bound them, but when setting up the discs in oVirt, I've not seen a way of telling it which interfaces to use. The node makes the connection to the target successfully, but it seems its only connecting via the "default" iscsi interface, and not making a connection via each interface that I've defined. Obviously this means I can't use multipath, and being only GbE interfaces it means I'm not getting the performance I should. I've done some searching via Google, but I've not really found any thing that helps. Perhaps I've missed something, but can anyone give me any pointers for getting this to work across multiple interfaces? Thanks? Martin

HI All, I upgraded to 3.3 and tried to start a console. Whatever version of console I set, VNC or Spice, the browser downloads a console.vv file now. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the unreleased version ? Thanks for the help! Cheers, Matt

[Users] cpu stuck after joining fedora 18 node to ovirt

Dear all, we're facing this issue while trying to join a Fedora 18 server with the latest stable vdsm to an instance of ovirt-engine 3.2.2. Let's put things in context: we have this fujitsu rx200 server with a dual emulex fc nic connected with two fibres that go through two brocade switches, which in turn have four paths each to a vnx 5300 storage - that's a grand total of eight paths. Now. This server was previously employed as an ovirt node and was working correctly with the very same configuration, we simply reinstalled the server with the latest Fedora 18 stable release. The server boots fine and multipathd is already up and running. All the paths are valid and block devices are seen. Please note that those block devices contain our ovirt 's d.c. storage domains. We set up and enable ovirt's stable repo and proceed to install vdsmd, then we add the node from the webadmin interface. Bear in mind that we face the same issue by letting the engine install the vdsm daemon on its own. The node gets installed successfully and reboots. When the OS tries to initialize the storage we get this funny message about a random core getting stuck for xx seconds. Then it fails to mount /home and finally drops to the emergency shell. (see attachment) If we remove the host from the storage group and reboot it, it doesn't hang. A few things we tried to fix this up: * restored multipath.conf from a working node * put each mountpoint's uuid inside fstab * installed vdsm from fedora updates instead of the official ovirt stable * swapped two different fujitsu models (we had the same issue with another server: we swapped them and had the first one join a rhev infrastructure running on the same network without shedding a single tear) We consciously avoided installing ovirt node since we require more control out of our servers than such a minimal distribution will ever let us have, however we're willing to deploy it for troubleshooting purposes. When I'm starting a VM, the start process is running fine. Being fast enough, we can ssh-connect to it, but 5 seconds later, the VM is paused. I don't know if I have to conclude that this issue is specific to this VM, but I sounds like yes. Things to say about this VM : - it it a RH6 IIRC. It has already been successfully started, migrated, stopped and rebooted many times in the past. - it has 3 disks : one for the system and two for datas. - it has no snapshots - it has no different or complicated network setup My storage domain is a SAN, iSCSI linked, and doing good job since months. It seems the VM keeps working on the old interface and the new configuration does not work. Any idea? Hey, in my ovirt datacenter, I have two physical networks (one I use for access, and one is internal for runing backups etc). They have different IP addresses, but are created with same VLAN ids on both physical networks. When I try to add those two networks in ovirt i get a (when I try to add a VLAN with id 4): Error: The specified VLAN ID (4) is already in use. The spice.cab from elmarco that is referred to on http://wiki.ovirt.org/How_to_Connect_to_SPICE_Console_With_Portal doesn't exist any more, and I see that spice-space.org has a virt-viewer 0.5.6 for windows out. Any chance of someone packaging it up in a compatible .cab? Or if there's a resource on how to do it, a pointer would be appreciated and I can tackle it. Thanks! -Darrell

Hi Juan, When creating a snapshot, a new volume is should be created in the storage. The snapshot should contain the VM configuration and the VM disks (not including shareable disks and direct lun disks). Which Ovirt version are you using? What the audit log indicated? Was the operation succeeded? Can u please add a print screen of your VM and snapshot? [Users] Nested virt failing

I have Fedora 18 with ovirt running. I have vdsm-hook-nestedvt.noarch installed on all the nodes. The nodes are all identical with Intel i5-2400 CPUs (SandyBridge). When I try to boot a nested virtual machine (L2) instead of a ovirt virtual machine (L1), the kernel starts to load, and then that nested virtual machines (L2) pauses. On the host running Fedora 18 dmesg shows this message: nested_vmx_run: VMCS MSR_{LOAD,STORE} unsupported Reading this bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892240 It looks like if the Fedora 18 ovirt nodes started the the L1 using the "core2duo" CPU flag instead of host pass through it might work? Hi, I need to import a bunch of VM's (about 50) from kvm to ovirt, will be using virt-v2v and rest api for bulk import. However, after import new VM's gets GMT-12 timezone and no way to change it - and that's bothering me, as fsck inside VMs keeps complaining at timestamps in future each time vm gets shutdown/startup, selinux relabelling occurs, etc. I've read about bug with default timezone (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873795) but I don't have time to wait for 3.3.0 to release... Is there any api calls or any other way to set timezone for VM during import? -- Yuriy Demchenko

Hi, we've encountered an quota allocation problem which seems like a bug. Using engine 3.2.2. on CentOS, datacenter in enforced quota mode. Scenario: - Create a virtual machine, seal it and create template from it. Assign some quota to it. - Create a new user, set new quota limits to his username - This user creates a new VM from this template. In new server/desktop dialog, resource allocation, new disk gets set to user's quota (user only has permission for it's own quota). Create VM. - When VM is created it inherits the templates quota and not user's, as it should. So user is using templates disk quota. Quota for memory and vcpu works ok. No errors in engine.log.
