Unable to make Single Sign on working on Windows 7 Guest

Hi all, I've spent several days trying to make SSO working with Windows 7 x64 guests, apparently all seems to be installed properly, such as: Ovirt Guest Agent QEMU Agent Spice Agent SAS enabled on Guest But even that, I'm not able to see any VmLogonVDSCommand log when connecting through SPICE client to a Windows guest, while connecting to a RHEL Guest yes. Any clue how to solve it or troubleshoot the problem? Thanks in advance, Felipe

Pass through for serial port

Hi guys, We are running Ovirt 3.2.2 and would like to assign or allocate the serial port of one of the processing hosts through to a guest, I'm assuming that we'd need to disable migration to achieve this to ensure the port mapping never changes, but how do we achieve this pass through? Is it possible to do this? We have googled around for possible solutions but haven't found one yet. Thank you. Regards. Neil Wilson.

Copying VM from one datacenter to another

Hello! De facto; I have two datacenter: - 1 with one host, configured with local storage, just added in the engine; - 1 with 3 host, 2 shared storage domain, 1 ISO and 1 Export For some backup reasons ( cold backup) I want to copy machines from second Datacenter to the Local-storage one. Is there some documented way of doing this? Any hints, thoughts, similar experience? Thanks!

[Users] Failure to connect to engine with Nagios

Hello, We are having some trouble with the Nagios plugin for oVirt. From time to time it stops working and it isn't able to connect to the engine. The error that we get apparently indicates a failure to read the file where the session cookie is stored: RHEV CRITICAL: Can't connect to RHEVM-API. Unsuccessful stat on filename containing newline at /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_rhev3 line 1411. Any suggestion on how to diagnose/solve this issue? Hosted Engine started VM Multiple Times

Hi, I added a new node to my hosted cluster today, only one other node was active in the cluster at that time. It was running the hosted-engine, however during the install it's agent died and when the second node came up. It started the hosted-engine, causing the hosted-engine to be run on both nodes. Has anyone had this happen? This seems very dangerous, as both VMs were running simultaneously.. data corruption alert! Andrew.

A range is an object with at least 2 members (start and end). And we have few of these for each data center. Storing a collection of the objects in a single field in a relational DB seems a bit awkward to me. That has few disadvantages: 1. is not normalized 2. make data validation nearly impossible 3. make querying the data very difficult 4. is restraining our ability to extend the object (e.g. a user might like to give a description to a range) So IMHO a satellite table with the FK to storage_pool would be a more robust design. Add a Direct Lun via rest API (Oivrt 3.3.5)

Hello I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out if there is a way to login to an ISCSI target (EqualLogic) and add its associated volume as a Direct LUN via the REST api. I have figured out how to add an existing Direct LUN to a vm. cloud-init woes w/ templates

Hi, Has anyone had any success with cloud-init and templates with ovirt 3.4? So far, it seems to be able to configure things like networks etc. But when it goes to do with passwords, it must be set again in the "run once" or in the "Initial Run" even if "Use already configured password" is set. Another thing, why is it only setup to change the root password? By default cloud-init will block root, so nearly all images need to be modified ie. sed -i 's/disable_root: 1/disable_root: 0\nchpasswd: { expire: False }/g' /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg Otherwise, you'll login and it'll ask you to change your password. Defeats the purpose of setting it through cloud-init? I'm also not being able to just set an SSH key, it insists a password otherwise the key won't get uploaded. Finally, templates seem to be lacking validation. Where "Initial Run" and "Run Once" will give the red box if you have the wrong syntax while templates don't care. Thanks, Andrew

Unable to edit virt-v2v import VM - 3.4.0

I just imported a VM using the following command: virt-v2v -ic qemu+ssh://root@kvm1.DOMAIN/system -o rhev -os 192.168.202.245:/tank/ovirt/import_export --network ovirtmgmt --vmtype server syslog.DOMAIN I successfully imported it in the oVirt web UI, but when I try to edit the VM I get the following message, "Cannot edit VM. Cannot set single display device via VNC display.". I noticed the "Single PCI" option in the Console section is checked, when none of my other VMs have this checked. Another VM I imported using version 3.3.x does not have this checked. The checkbox is greyed out, so I can't make any modifications in the "Edit" dialog. Any suggestions? For issues regarding importing from KVM using virt-v2v, what logs are useful besides engine.log? Thanks - Trey

Hi Folks, i am currently looking for a way to isolate each vms network traffic so none can sniff others network traffic. currently i am playing around with the neutron integration, which gives me more question marks than answers for now (even documentation seems to be incomplete / outdated). Is there any other solution, which does not require to create a new vlan for each vm, to make sure that noone can sniff others traffic? Ovirt snapshot failing on one VM

This assumes all HA-Nodes have been taken offline. This also applies partly to rebooted HA nodes. Please feel free do ask questions and/or comment on improvements. Most of the things should be obsoleted by future updates anyway. Note 1: The problem IMHO seems to be the non connected nfs storage domain, resulting in the HA-Agent crash / hang. The ha-broker service should be up and running all the time. Please check this. Note 2:=20 My setup consists of two nodes; 'all nodes' means the task has to be performed on every node HA node in the cluster. Node 3: By 'Login' I mean SSH or local access. Part A: SHUTDOWN THE CLUSTER Prerequisite: oVirt HE cluster running, should be taken offline for maintenance: 1. In oVirt, shutdown all VM's except HostedEngine. 2. Login to one cluster node and run 'hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=3Dglobal' to put the cluster into global maintenance 3. Login to ovirt engine VM and shut it down with 'shutdown -h now' 4. Login to one cluster node and run 'hosted-engine --vm-status' to check if the engine is really down.=20 5. Shutdown all HA nodes subsequently. Part B: STARTING THE CLUSTER Prerequisite: oVirt HE cluster down, NFS storage server running and exporting the vdsm share. 1. Start all nodes and wait for them to boot up. 2. Login to one cluster node. Check the status of the following services: vdsm, ovirt-ha-agent, ovirt-ha-broker. The status should be all are running except ovirt-ha-agent is in 'locked' state and down. 3. Check 'hosted-engine --vm-status', this should result in a python stack trace (crash). 4. On all cluster nodes, connect the storage pool: 'hosted-engine --connect-storage'. Now, 'hosted-engine --vm-status' runs and reports 'up to date: False' and 'unknown-stale-data' for all nodes. 5. On all cluster nodes, start the 'ovirt-ha-agent' service: 'service ovirt-ha-agent start' 6. Wait a few minutes for the ha-broker and the agent to collect the cluster state. 7. Login to one cluster node. Check 'hosted-engine --vm-status' until you have cluster nodes 'status-up-to-date: True' and 'score: 2400' 8. If the cluster was shutdown by yourself and in global maintenance, remove the maintenance mode with 'hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=3Dnone'. Now, the system should do a FSM reinitialize and start the HostedEngine by itself.=C2=B9 If it was not in maintenance (eg. power fail) the engine should be started as soon as one host gets a score of 2400. Part C: STARTING A SINGLE NODE Prerequisite: oVirt HE cluster up, HostedEngine running. One ha node was taken offline by local maintenance in oVirt and rebooted. 1. Follow steps 1-5 of Part B 2. In oVirt, navigate to Cluster, Hosts and activate the node previously in maintenance. --- 1 I observed the following things: * If you use the command 'hosted-engine --vm-shutdown' instead of loging in to the ovirt HE and do a local shutdown, the Default Data Center is set to non - responsive and being Contented after the reboot. I highly suspect an unclean shutdown by running the command. Further, it waits about two min. with the shutdown. * If you use the command 'hosted-engine --vm-start' on a cluster in global maintenance, wait for successful start ({'health': 'good', 'vm': 'up', 'detail': 'up'}) and remove the maintenance status, the engine gets restarted once. By removing the maintenance first and letting ha-agent do the work, the engine is not restarted. Hello, When I create virtual machine from a template (centos6.5, 2 cores, 8GB mem, 500GB hd) this process takes almost 2 hours. I click on "New VM" button and just select the template and click ok. engine.log show me high network consumption (98%) between engine-server host and SPM host. I tried to make my engine-server host a spm host too, but without sucess. Does SPM can run over on the same ovirt-engine machine ? Am I make something wrong? Hosted engine datastore crashed on adding a new datastore

Hello all, For some reason, when I try to add a second datastore (separate IP and empty share with 36:36 user rights), the share which has got the hosted-engine on it crashes. This of course crashes the hosted engine. When the share is up again, it's not sufficient to create a directory /rhev/data-center/mnt/ with identical name as before and mounting the share there. The hosted-engine still refuses to boot up. The load (pure I/O) on the NFS server goes up to about 11 as well. Any ideas on where I should check?

Storage domain - defining fields

My setup 1 engine Fedora 19 ovirt 3.4 managing 3 nodes Fedora 19 + ovirt 3.4 updated; those nodes acts also as gluster server for 2 storage domains, each domain 3 bricks replicated ( so 3 bricks each). I have one questions regarding the fields one have to complete when defining a new storage domain and its importance. First, field "*Use Host*" - you have to complete with one of the nodes. Of course you can use any of the host in cluster, *but which is its significance/importance*? * If you reboot that node, you suppose to have any issue with the storage?* The same question with field "*Path*" - gluster case - "*Path to gluster volume to mount*" formatted as "HOST:VOLUME" , where host can be the same as above mentioned field- "*Use Host*" or any af the gluster cluster member; *which is its significance/importance?* *Again If you reboot that node, you suppose to have any issue with the storage?* My experience with rebooting these nodes*, *after moving VM's and putting it in Maintenance was good*,* until yesterday, when after such reboot I've got some corrupted VM images, and subsequently I had to restore them. Error message follows : Exit message: cannot read header '/rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/10.125.1.194:gluster__data3/5fe658b1-43ff-4bfd-97d6-28217cf415df/images/321ad473-3741-4825-8ac0-6c416aa8f490/1a21454d-9931-4ed8-ba38-7126528664a1': Input/output error." Foreman not starting VM, hangs on finishing creating a new VM

Hi All, I'm having an issue with oVirt 3.4 and Foreman 1.5 RC1 at the moment, it does not start/finish a new provisioned VM/Host., it creates it well on oVirt. I'm sure this worked well on a nightly some dags ago and I didn't update it after it. Anyone using gluster storage domain with WAN geo-rep?

I'm currently using a two node combined virt/storage setup with Ovirt 3.3.4 and Gluster 3.4.2 (replica 2, glusterfs storage domain). I'll call this pair PROD. I'm then geo-replicating to another gluster replica pair on the local net, btrfs underlying storage, and volume snapshots so I can recover my storage domain from different points in time if necessary. Its also local so restore time is much better than off-site. I'll call this pair BACKUP. I'm planning on setting up geo-replication from BACKUP to an EC2 gluster target. I'll call this host EC2HOST. PROD ---geo-rep-lan---> BACKUP ---geo-rep-wan---> EC2HOST I'd like to avoid saturating my WAN link during office hours. I have some ideas (or combination of): 1. limit bandwidth during certain hours to the offsite hosts. But realistically the bandwidth I would allocate is so low I don't see the purpose of this. Also with 8 guests running, I'm noticing quite a bit of data transfer to the local backup nodes (avg 6-8MB/s), and I'm thinking there is a lot of thrashing going on which isn't useful to backup offsite anyways. 2. stop WAN geo-replication during office hours, and restart for overnight/weekend hours. 3. Not use geo-rep between BACKUP ---> EC2HOST, use rsync on one of the btrfs volume snapshots so we avoid the thrashing. In this case I could limit WAN speed to 1MB/s which should be fine for most differences throughout the day. So my question is, how do you off-site your storage domains, what constraints have you identified and how have you dealt with them? And of course how would you deal with the scenario I've oulined above? Thanks, *Steve*

Hello, I created VMs by two ways : 1) on tab virtual machines > new vm > template (centos_65_64bits) 1.1 configuration : I do not select stateless checkbox 1.2 this process takes a 1h30 to create each machine. 2) on tab pools > new vm > template (centos_65_64bits) 2.1 default configuration : stateless 2.2 Here I created 3 virtual machines at once 2.3 this process takes only one minute On the tab virtual machines I can see all virtual machines. Pooled machines have different icon image and description is different too: machines generated from tab VM are described as clone/dependent - clone is a phisical copy? machines generated from tab POOL are described as thin/independent - thin is a just a reference to template vm ? what is phisical? any configuration file? Hi, I have some issues with hosted engine status. oVirt hosts think that hosted engine is down because it seems that hosts can't write to hosted-engine.lockspace due to glusterfs issues (or at least I think so). So my questions are now: Is it intended to send out these messages and detect that ovirt engine is down (which is false anyway), but not to restart the vm? How can I disable notifications? I'm planning to write a Nagios plugin which parses the output of hosted-engine --vm-status and only Nagios should notify me, not hosted-engine script. A privileged guest user could use this flaw to corrupt QEMU process memory on the host, potentially resulting in arbitrary code execution on the host with the privileges of the QEMU process. (CVE-2014-0150) A divide-by-zero flaw was found in the seek_to_sector() function of the parallels block driver in QEMU. An attacker able to modify a disk image file loaded by a guest could use this flaw to crash the guest. An attacker able to modify a disk image file loaded by a guest could use this flaw to crash the guest. Nothing too complicated. SL 6x and 5 8 vm hosts running on a hitachi blade symphony. 25 Server guests 15+ desktop windows guests 3x 12TB storage servers (All 1TB based raid 10 SSDs) 10Gbs PTP between 2 of the servers, with one geolocation server offsite. Most of the server images/luns are exported through 4Gbps FC cards from the servers using LIO except the desktop machines with are attached directly to the gluster storage pool since normal users can create them. Various servers use use the gluster system directly for storing a large number of documents and providing public access to the tune of about 300 to 400 thousand requests per day. We aggregate, provide public access, efiling, e-payments and case management software to most of the illinois circuit court system. Gluster has worked like a champ. I'm getting the following error. RedHat seems to thin the answer is to use their virtio-win rpm. As far as I can tell, this is not available anywhere, So I've just got to go and get the iso that it installs from kvm.org. Ok, done. now that I have said iso, where the heck do I put it, since it doesn't seem to align with the structure that v2v is looking for. virt-v2v: Installation failed because the following files referenced in the configuration file are required, but missing: /usr/share/virtio-win/drivers/i386/WinXP

Query for adding non kvm hosts to ovirt engine

I have a small test environment, where I am trying to work out the detail of configuring ovirt + gluster as our main customer support environment. All boxes running Scientific Linux 6.5 and ovirt 3.4 and glusterfs 3.5: mgr1 : ovirt-engine installed and vdsm-gluster vmhost1 : main vm server, added to mgr1 as host vmhost2 : second vm server, add to mgr1 as host strg1 : first gluster storage server strg2 : second gluster storage server mgr1 is an old box, hardware does not support virtualization vmhost1 and vmhost2 have full vt capability strg1 and strg2 hardware does not support virtualization In the past, if I have created a gluster only ovirt-engine install, I have been able to add strg1 and strg2 as hosts. Is there any way I can use mgr1 to manage both vm hosts and storage hosts, and add strg1 and strg2 to mgr1 as hosts.
