Re: [ovirt-users] Re-add a node
by Dafna Ron
what is the error message you get when you try to put the host in
maintenance? are there any running vm's reported?
Try to press the "confirm host has been rebooted" button and than see if
you can put the host in maintenance.
If that fails, select the host, in the general tab you will get the
re-install link.
try to re-install, when install fails the host should change status to
failed installation.

Re-add a node
by James James
Hi,
I don know i the subject is explicit enough but I have a problem and I hope
to find some help here.
I had two hosts in my cluster (node1 and node2). I had to reinstall node1
due to some networks problem. In the engine, node1 appears now "Not
reponsive" and I can't remove it from the engine ui.
Now node1 is back and I want to add it in the cluster but I can't. I've got
this error (vdsm.log) :

live migration and snapshot problem

Dear members,
We made a test plaform for testing ovirt 3.4 features. We got four amd x2 4400+ machine with 2 gigs of ram and build a gluster based cluster. I set up an amd-G2 based cluster.
I rebuild and installed the qemu-kvm-rhev package ( http://ftp.redhat.com/redhat/linux/enterprise/6Server/en/RHEV/SRPMS/qemu-... ) .
The data storage is a "four brick" distributed-replicated gluster storage. I got a virtual machine (centos 6.5) from the ovirt's openstack based template repository.
Everything was good, the vm can run on any host, but the live migration doesn't work. Also, the snapshot feature is lost from menu. I can make live snapshot, but it doesn't show on the panel.
So:
- I lost the snapshots:)
- the live migration doesn't work.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Tibor

Re: [Users] HA
by Koen Vanoppen
Ok,
Thanx already for all the help. I adapted some things for quicker respons:
engine-config --get FenceQuietTimeBetweenOperationsInSec-->180
engine-config --set FenceQuietTimeBetweenOperationsInSec=60
engine-config --get StorageDomainFalureTimeoutInMinutes-->180
engine-config --set StorageDomainFalureTimeoutInMinutes=1
engine-config --get SpmCommandFailOverRetries-->5
engine-config --set SpmCommandFailOverRetries
engine-config --get SPMFailOverAttempts-->3
engine-config --set SPMFailOverAttempts=1
engine-config --get NumberOfFailedRunsOnVds-->3
engine-config --set NumberOfFailedRunsOnVds=1
engine-config --get vdsTimeout-->180
engine-config --set vdsTimeout=30
engine-config --get VDSAttemptsToResetCount-->2
engine-config --set VDSAttemptsToResetCount=1
engine-config --get TimeoutToResetVdsInSeconds-->60
engine-config --set TimeoutToResetVdsInSeconds=30
Now the result of this is that when the VM is not running on the SPM that
it will migrate before going in pause mode.
But when we tried it, when the vm is running on the SPM, it get's in paused
mode (for safety reasons, I know ;-) ). And stays there until the host gets
MANUALLY fenced by rebooting it. So now my question is... How can I make
the hypervisor fence (so reboots, so vm is moved) quicker?
Kind regards,
Koen

[Users] using cloud-init?
by Jason Brooks
Hi all --
I've been trying, without success, to use cloud-init w/ oVirt 3.4 on Fedora
19 hosts. I've had similar failure in the past, but here are the steps I'm
taking currently:
1. Import as template F19 image from ovirt-image-repository glance repo
2. Create new vm based on that template
3. Choose ovirtmgmt as the nic1 for the VM
4. Show advanced options, click initial run, expand authentication, enter
a root password, paste my public key into the allowed ssh keys field
5. Hit OK, and then run the VM
6. In the VM's console, I see it complain about No instance datasource found
7. Unsurprisingly, I can't log in w/ pw or ssh.
(By the way, are there any default creds for these images? I thought they might
be based on the fedora cloud images, but their default uname fedora pw nothing
doesn't work)
I've tried some other derivations of this, launching from the Run Once menu,
filling in various different fields, etc.
Any clues?
I don't see many people complaining about this, so I'm assuming it's working
for other people. I don't know, maybe it's something with Fedora?
Thanks, Jason

Regenerating new SSL certificates for ovirt-engine
by Trey Dockendorf
Given the recent OpenSSL heartbleed vulnerability, I would like to
regenerate the certificates used by my ovirt-engine server. What are
the steps to regenerate the certificates, and which certificates
should be regenerated? My ovirt-engine host is on our campus LAN,
which offers no real protection, so I would consider it public facing
despite not being routable across the WAN. At minimum I'd like to
regenerate the certificates used by Apache.
I'd be happy to document this on the wiki, as the only items I could
find were related to host renaming.
Thanks,
- Trey

Obviously, if it's already updated by your cron.

Not sure what you ask exactly.
If it's "I want to keep my system automatically up-to-date all the time.
What should I do?", then, yes, you are right. 'yum update' is not enough,
you also need to run engine-setup. I would not recommend to do that in
cron - you might want to make a cron job that alerts you somehow if there
are updates, but actually run 'engine-setup' manually. That said, generally
speaking, during a specific version, the questions and answers asked during
upgrade are not changed, so you can create an answer file for e.g. 3.4
updates, verify that engine-setup with this answer file works as expected,
and run it from cron.
If it's "I run yum update in cron. I understand that I also need to run
engine-setup to update the engine. Should I expect any damage from not
doing that - that is, having updated packages without running engine-setup?",
then no, the packages that are sensitive to database content are version-locked,
and will not be updated by a normal yum update.
