How to change glusterfs volume type for MASTER storage domain

Hi,
Our ovirt test instance has 4 nodes with glusterfs master storage
domain. I had the volume set to distributed replicated gluster and
things worked.
Due to quorum issues, I'm trying to switch it to replicated with replica
count 4.
Currenlty the nodes keep rebooting while the master storage is down and
I can't get things up again.
Invalid status on Data Center Default. Setting status to Non Responsive.
Host node3 cannot access the Storage Domain(s) <UNKNOWN> attached to
the Data Center Default. Setting Host state to Non-Operational.
Is there a known way to change the glusterfs volume for the master
domain that doesn't end in a total system faillure?
Kind regards,
Jorick Astrego

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt Hang after adding to ManageIq
by Liran Zelkha
Hi Chandra,
You have OutOfMemory errors. In Java applications, this causes allot of GC activity, which causes CPU usage to spike.
Can you allocate more memory to the oVirt engine?

oVirt Live: Cannot run VM
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi, I'm testing oVirt Live and I'm getting the engine installed, the storage ready and a VM ready to be started.
But when I try to start it I have:
Error while executing action:
local_vm:
Cannot run VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. See below for details:
The host local_host did not satisfy internal filter Network because network(s) are missing.
I tried creating a brand new vm and that fails to start too:
Error while executing action:
test:
Cannot run VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling constraints. See below for details:
The host local_host did not satisfy internal filter Network because network(s) are missing.
Attached vdsCaps and logs.
Any hint on what's missing?

Ovirt / RHEV interoperability
by John Gardeniers
Just curious and I'm not currently in a position to try it myself. Is
there any interoperability between Ovirt and RHEV? In other words, can
an Ovirt hypervisor work with a REV engine or can a RHEV hypervisor work
with a RHEV engine?

John

CPU type is not supported

Dear All;
I have DELL PowerEdge 6850 with two Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.66GHz.
The CPU has the below flags which does not include AES flag:-
flags: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc pebs bts pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est cid cx16 xtpr lahf_lm tpr_shadow
I have installed Centos 6.5 64bit on it and I need to add it to cluster Intel Nehalem Family. Our oVirt Engine Version is 3.4.3-1.el6.
The installation started normally and stopped with error:-
"Host iScsi moved to Non-Operational state as host CPU type is not supported in this cluster compatibility version or is not supported at all"

OVirt Guest Agent Service service could not be started
by Richard Long
I am trying to install ovirt-guest-agent in a windows 7 sp1 vm with all current updates applied. This is a new install for of oVirt Engine Version: 3.4.3-1.fc19. Both host are running FC20.
Besides searching the list and google I have followed the instructions here:
http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_Guest_Agent_For_Windows.
I tried many different things to no avail and this install is on a clean win 7 vm.
During the creation of the service I am getting this warning:
The following modules appear to be missing
['Carbon', 'Carbon.Files', '_scproxy', 'dummy.Process', 'simplejson', 'test_port ', 'win32com.gen_py'].
I do not know if these are needed are not and have not been able to locate them.
After copying the files created in the python build ,per the instructions I ran the following :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Guest Agents\oVirt Guest Agent> OVirtGuestService.exe -instal
C:\Program Files (x86)\Guest Agents\oVirt Guest Agent> net start OVirtGuestService
and get
The OVirt Guest Agent Service service is starting.
The OVirt Guest Agent Service service could not be started.
A service specific error occurred: 1.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3547.
Which gives: A service specific error occurred: ***.
Looking at the windows system event log gives:
The description for Event ID 10 from source OVirtGuestService cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or
the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "OVirtGuestService.pyc", line 63, in __init__
File "logging\config.pyc", line 70, in fileConfig
File "logging\config.pyc", line 106, in _create_formatters
File "ConfigParser.pyc", line 607, in get
NoSectionError: No section: 'formatters'
And
The OVirt Guest Agent Service service terminated with service-specific error Incorrect function..
As I said I have scoured the internet for a resolution for 2 days, one hinted at the serial driver:
I device manager the VirtIO-Serial Driver is listed and "This device is working properly."
I'm not sure what to try now.

VM File System expansion
by Punit Dambiwal
Hi,
I read this article and found that we can expand the VM disk online but it
doesn't expand the filesystem of the VM.....
I tried the following but still it didn't work..all the below commands
failed on the host..
I am using :-
1. Ovirt 3.4.3
2. Glusterfs 3.5
https://inthecloud.readthedocs.org/zh_CN/latest/index.html it's

Hi,
I have a lot of qcow2 based vm (from my kvm box) disks and I would like to copy to ovirt them.
Ovirt can use qcow2 based images directly or I need to convert to raw in any case?
I don't have long time for migration, the conversion process takes a long time.
Thanks in advance

MIB files for oVirt SNMP traps
by Andreas Paul
Hello there,
I want to use oVirt's SNMP traps for my Nagios monitoring, but I need the
ovirt MIBs to convert them with snmptt and I can't find them anywhere.
I used the docs available here http://www.ovirt.org/Features/engine-snmp
Does anyone use the SNMP trap feature in oVirt and knows where I can find
the MIB files?
Thanks in advance!

- Handle cookies set by the oVirt instance in order to have some
'persistant' authentication through the JSESSIONID cookie
- Add support for VM pools (Iordan Iordanov)
- Added ovirt_resource_refresh{_async} in order to refetch a resource
content remotely
- Various leak/memory-handling related bug fixes
- ovirt_proxy_new now expects a hostname without the https:// and the
/api part. Hostnames with http/https/api will still work fine but
will cause runtime warnings.

Start VM function using ovirt api
by Shanil S
Hi All,
We are using the /api/vm/ID/start function to start the virtual machine but
it seems the vm is start in the run once mode. We want to start the vm in
the Run mode rather than the run once, How can we do this ? Is there any
other option to start the vm in the run mode ? it is possible from the
ovirt admin panel. The following xml is used for the start vm action
$xml_data = "
<action><boot dev='cdrom'/></os>
<vm></vm></action>";

[QE][ACTION REQUIRED] oVirt 3.5.0 RC2 status
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
We were suppposed to start composing oVirt 3.5.0 RC2 today from 3.5 branch,
however we still have blockers open so we should postpone the build.
We'll discuss the delay and blockers status during today oVirt sync meeting.
Maintainers:
- Please be sure that 3.5 snapshot satisfy release criteria[9]
- Please be sure that no pending patches are going to block the release
- If any patch must block the RC release please raise the issue as soon as possible.
The bug tracker [1] shows the following proposed blockers to be reviewed:
Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1130045 infra NEW Very high memory consumption
1134233 infra POST /api/jobs - HTTP Status 500

1127294 storage POST Live Merge: Resolve unknown merge status in vdsm after host crash
1109920 storage POST Live Merge: Extend internal block volumes during merge
And the following dependencies still open:
Bug 1041569 - [NFR] libvirt: Returning the watermark for all the images opened for writing
Bug 1102881 - virDomainBlockCommit fails with live snapshots on oVirt block storage
Feature freeze is now effective, and branch has been created.
All new patches must be backported to 3.5 branch too.
Features completed are marked in green on Features Status Table [2]
There are still 267 bugs [3] targeted to 3.5.0.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 225 bugs [4] targeted to 3.5.0.

VM Deployment By Template
by Punit Dambiwal
Hi All,
I have some questions regarding the VM deployment through OS template...
1. I have imported centos template from openstack glance (the actual size
of the template is 16GB but used is 1GB)...now my question is if i deploy
the new VM with this template,the process will copy the whole 16GB or just
1 GB to create the new VM ??
2. I find disk size can not modify at the time of VM provisioning,is there
any way to modify the VM disk size ??
Thanks,
Punit

Volume XXX contains a apparently corrupt brick(s).

Dear All;
I have GlusterFS storage domain in my oVirt Engine Version: 3.4.3-1.el6.
One of the peers get disconnected due to network cable unplugged and after that I failed to add/remove disks from my GlusterFS domain.
I have healed the GlusterFS volume and removed the corrupted index file and healed the GlusterFS volume.
As workaround, I have stopped all the VM and put the GlusterFS domian in maintenance mode and activated it again and now I can add/remove disks from the GlusterFS domain.
But I still have the below warnings in my ovirt-engine.log:-
2014-09-01 23:09:47,550 WARN [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.gluster.GlusterSyncJob] (DefaultQuartzScheduler_Worker-26) Volume XXX contains a apparently corrupt brick(s). Hence will not add it to engine at this point.

don't see the statistics for the network and memory
by Grzegorz Szypa
Hi.
I do not see the statistics for the network and memory and I do not see
Guest Agent Data in the "Network interface". "Custom Properties" in the VM
config are added, Memory baloon device are enabled.
Once I was able to enable it to work, but after reinstalling I do not
remember how to do it again.

Within ovirt-engine-3.5 a major rework of authentication and authorization had been done.
Within the scope of the work a new public extension interface had been introduced, this interface may be used for future modularization of the ovirt-engine implementation.
Throughout this presentation we will walk through the major changes within the engine core, learn the concepts of the extension api and introduce the new ldap implementation for authentication and authorization of the engine.

RHEV
by Koen Vanoppen
Dear all,
Besides the fact that we as team where very happy about ovirt and the
community, there is a chance that we have to move to RHEV... Superiors
decisions...
Now my next obvious question is... IF this will be the case, can we move
all of our vms to RHEV or... If so, how can we do this in the best possible
way?
Kind regards,
Koen

What I observed is Ovirt process is hogging more CPU.
And also Memory out of error in log, some cases it shows error related to
garbaj collection.

Could you reproduce the issue and provide "top-output.txt" file after
running "top -n 10 -b > top-output.txt"
command. What I believe *might happening* is postgres threads are eating
the cpu. Also, Make sure that you're running ovirt-engine on recommended
hardware configuration.

Need to import a template in OVA format
by Bob Doolittle
I have a template designed for VMware VMs, in OVA format.
Is there a way I can import this template to oVirt, in order to create
an oVirt VM from it?
virt-v2v seems designed to import VMs, not templates, and it whines
about no storage devices in the Guest (when using "-i ova -o rhev -os
<NFS_PATH_TO_EXPORT_DOMAIN>").
Thanks,
Bob
P.S. If of interest, the OVA tarball contains foo.ovf, foo.mf, and
system.vmdk.

VM second netowork not Comeup
by Shanil S
Hi Aill,
We are creating two nics using the api, but it seems the second network is
not come up and the first one is working. The following xml is used to for
the nic creation
<nic>
<interface>virtio</interface>
<name>eth0</name>
<boot_protocol>static</boot_protocol>
<mac address='".$ip->mac_address."'/>
<network>
<ip address='".$ip->mac_ip."' netmask='255.255.255.0'
gateway='".$ip->mac_gateway."'/>
</network>
<on_boot>true</on_boot>
<vnic_profile id='bbabc471-667d-4221-bc8e-4ab30b3dcc34' />
</nic>
<nic>
<interface>virtio</interface>
<name>eth1</name>
<boot_protocol>static</boot_protocol>
<mac address='".$ip->mac_address."'/>
<network>
<ip address='".$ip->mac_ip."' netmask='255.255.255.0'
gateway='".$ip->mac_gateway."'/>
</network>
<on_boot>true</on_boot>
<vnic_profile id='037d806f-d76b-4da3-84b6-ac7a5087f836' />
</nic>
When i checked the configuration file
(/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1) after creating...i find it
seems the ONBOOT=no.....eventhough we set it true from the api. Is this a
bug ?

Hi All,

<mac address='".$ip->mac_address."'/>
<network>
<ip address='".$ip->mac_ip."' netmask='255.255.255.0'
gateway='".$ip->mac_gateway."'/>
</network>
<on_boot>true</on_boot>
