[Centos7.1] [Ovirt 3.5.2] hosted engine, is there a way to resume deploy

Hi, I tried to deploy ovirt hosted engine 3.5.2 on a Centos7.1 I messed up things with datacenter naming, I used something else than Default, and the result was that, after the DB welcome message between the engine and the hypervisor, there was in error (I didn't catch it I was using screen command over ssh without log :-( ), and the last steps were not done, so I ended up an engine up but without the hypervisor being registred. Is there a way to force the registration again, or will I have to deploy from the beginning and reinstall the VM engine? thanks.

Remove default cluster

Hello, I finished upgrading a 3.5.1 DC that contained some CentOS 6.6 hosts. For that, I added a second cluster in which I progressively moved my upgraded hosts into CentOS 7. Now my old cluster is empty, and the new one contains my CentOS 7 hosts. I'd like to get rid of the old empty cluster, but when trying to delete it, oVirt explains that some template are still used in this cluster. Actually, I have only the default blank template and another custom one. Once the custom one has easily been moved, I have no way to move the blank one because every action is greyd out. I guess no one will tell me to play with psql... :) -- Nicolas ECARNOT

Multiple NICs on hosted engine?

I have installed the first node of a new oVirt 3.5 setup with a hosted engine VM. I have multiple networks: one public-accessible and one private (with storage, iDRAC/IPMI, etc.). I set the engine VM up on the public LAN, but now realize that it can't access the power control. I tried to add a second NIC to the engine VM through the web interface, but of course that doesn't work (because it isn't really managed there). Thanks for you reply . So if I understand you correctly you want to reduce the space a thin provision disk takes up on the NFS share because you deleted files within the VM? Yes Is there any others way to reclaim disk space , coz i have bulks of vm under thin provision manual process kind of impossible . As i know Vmware have this kind of facility to reclaim from thin provision . hi all, i am going to migrate a production windows 2008 image that is currently running on kvm over to ovirt 3.5.2 this weekend. are there any tips, any do's and dont's i should be aware of before doing this? should i install the windows guest tools before moving over or once done? what about having to install the virtio drivers when doing and new windows vm in order to see the disks, how is this achieved with an already created kvm image? -- thanks and regards, grant pasley. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com

error starting vm - configure network

I have just installed ovirt AIO. I configure local datacenter, local storage. Created a new vm. Attached a cd. But when I want to "Run once", so I can install de OS, i get these events and the vm shuts immediately down: 2015-jun-04, 13:21 Failed to run VM debTest2 (User: admin@internal). 2015-jun-04, 13:21 Failed to run VM debTest2 on Host local_host. 2015-jun-04, 13:20 VM debTest2 is down with error. Exit message: XML error: listen network 'vdsm-ovirtmgmt' had no usable address. 2015-jun-04, 13:20 VM debTest2 was started by admin@internal (Host: local_host). I suppose I have to configure network. oVirt Engine in a container

Hey, if you are using docker or atomic, then you might be interested that you can get a fully configured and running oVirt Engine (based on CentOS and oVirt 3.5) from the docker repositories. I'm not the first one who gave it a go, Moran [also] [did] this. My work is similar to his, I just tried to leverage some enhancements which popped up in the last 6 months - mainly the integration with the `atomic` command and a simpler integration with systemd. The image is based on this [Dockerfile] and [this atomic installation script] to perform the engine setup on deployment. With the `atomic` command the usage is quite easy: atomic install fabiand/ovirt-engine-3.5 # or ADMINPW=foo atomic install fabiand/ovirt-engine-3.5 With `docker` it's a few more lines: export IMAGE=docker.io/fabiand/ovirt-engine-3.5 export NAME=ovirt-engine-3.5 # Use a transient (--rm) container to create the real the container docker run --rm -v /:/host \ -e FQDN=$(hostname) \ -e ADMINPASSWORD=${ADMINPW:-ovirt} \ -e NAME=$NAME \ -e IMAGE=$IMAGE \ $IMAGE container/atomic-install.sh After this run you can access oVirt Engine on port 80 and 443 of that host. Is it a plausible configuration?

Would you please tell me if this configuration is doable or there is something that i am missing? I would like to use only two servers (X and Y) for VDI and Gluster based storage. Hosted engine for oVirt and replicated volumes between X and Y for the gluster storage. Is a third machine Z a must?

Hello, after deploying a few CentOS7.1 hosts I realized that the ovirt-guest-agent does not start up correctly at system boot, requiring a manual restart. Afterwards it is reporting data to engine. Virtualised ovirt-engine?

Hello I'm trying to find out a few things about ovirt, besides that it's an fantastic product. I can find a draft describing virtualising the ovirt engine on the ovirt nodes, but i can't find it described much in other places, not saying it's not there :), but at least my eyes does not find it :) Does anyone have some insight towards this? Hi, I have created one VM with windows 2003 standard R2....with 3GB disk space...after installation i have installed all the drivers and shutdown the VM and expand the disk....after expand the disk VM cannot come up... Reproduce the problem :- 1. Create the windows 2003 VM 2. Disk will be IDE... 3. Install it via cd-rom.. 4. Installed successfully...now install the virtio drivers... 5. shutdown the VM... 6. Hello, my question is about deleting default snapshots generated via disk moving between storages. The snapshot called "Auto-generated for Live Storage Migration" is NOT automaticaly deleted after movement done. Is this default or any bug ?? regs. Pavel

I am correct in understanding that the WebSockets proxy acts as the spice access point for all of the nodes in the cluster / datacetner? or does each node host need a direct connection for spice? the .vv file I receive from the management console specifies the engine's private IP address which works fine when inside the ovirt management LAN, but it wont route from WAN obviously. I think this is a bug in libvirt, not ovirt itself, but i am not sure. The actual file throwing the exception is in VDSM (/usr/share/vdsm/virt/vm.py, line 697). Taking into account that you can use commodity hardware i would also suggest to split the services, but i would go for at least 3 gluster nodes ? which add up to at least 5 nodes for a HA system. If you want 4 in any case, then my suggestion would be to go for 4 replicas, each node has anything that it needs to run and you can basically use NFS to localhost for the storage which would make the nodes always access the local storage for the VMS, availability wise it makes no difference. This Problem did NOT exist before upgrading to CentOS 7.1 with an environment running ovirt 3.5.0 and 3.5.1 and Fedora 20 with the libvirt-preview repo activated. I think this is a bug in libvirt, not ovirt itself, but i am not sure. The actual file throwing the exception is in VDSM (/usr/share/vdsm/virt/vm.py, line 697).
