CentOS 7.3 host, VM live migration fails
by Giorgio Bersano
Hello everyone,
I'm happily running an oVirt datacenter in production from Spring 2014 that
was updated to in 4.0.5 two weeks ago.
The engine runs on a machine outside the DataCenter (no Hosted Engine).
Until two days ago the architecture was: engine CentOS 7.2 + iSCSI storage
+ 3 CentOS 7.2 hosts .
Yesterday I updated the hosts to CentOS 7.3 and now I can't live migrate
the VMs. The engine is still CentOS 7.2.
I did not see problems until there was at least an 7.2 host but VMs are now
stuck to their hosts (or you have to shutdown the VM then start it up).
Could it be because of the lack of qemu-kvm-ev 2.6 [1]?
If so I'm asking to make it very explicit on the ovirt.org website the
constraint to NOT UPGRADE TO CENTOS 7.3 until qemu-kvm-ev 2.6 is available.
If I had read [1] I would have probably refrained from proceeding but I
missed the message.
What to do now? ATM I'm not in trouble and I can stand the situation, for a
few days. Does someone know when qemu-kvm-ev 2.6 will be available (or,
differently said, how reliable is to use pacakges from ovirt-4.0-pre )?
Thank you anyway, oVirt is an amazing product indeed.
Best regards,
Giorgio.

Ovirt 4.0 spice console attempting to connect to HV private IP
by Edward Clay
Hello,
I've recently upgraded from ovirt 3.6 to 4.0 and have run into an issue
that I'm not finding an explanation or solution to. Currently when I
create a new VM and start it up and attempt to connect to the console I
get the following error.
"Unable to connect to the graphic server Could not connect to 10.1.1.1:
Socket I/O timed out"
If I attempt to launch a console for a VM created before the upgrade it
opens successfully. If I save the console.vv file I can see that the HV
public IP address is in this file. If I do the same thing for the
failing vm and I see the HV private mgmnt network IP. I'm not finding
where I can change which IP is used for console access or a difference
in how the VMs created before the upgrade are configured compared to the
new VMs.
I should also note that I attempted to change the IP in the failing VMs
console.vv file and then use it with the remove-viewer spice client and
it fails to connect to the port.
Any guidance on how to identify what's wrong is greatly appreciated.

Where/when was the VM started. Did you upgrade anything while VM was running?

Are they same versions?

Hi,
Please ensure that you CC the users list. I'm just another user, but the
actual developers are here to help too. If you don't CC the list then you
lose their input!

I'm not sure which suggestion of mine has confused you. Log into the host
and try to mount the domain.

You don't have to do that. You need to make sure it's available. Check
your NFS server. SSH in and verify everything is copacetic. The SSH to
your host and again verify that everything is okay. Check the logs.
Clearly the NFS mount is failing; figure how why that is!

VM Migration Failed
by Michael Watters
I am running ovirt 3.6 on our cluster and VM migration is failing. The
VDSM logs show an error as follows.
jsonrpc.Executor/7::ERROR::2016-12-16 08:41:04,398::vm::4714::virt.vm::(_updateDevicesDomxmlCache) vmId=`dc419d2b-522a-4e96-b06a-243ec8ede44e`::Alias not found for device type redir during migration at destination host
Does anybody know what would cause this? Both hosts are online and have VMs running.
