ISSUES WITH EDITING A CLUSTER SO IT CAN BE PART OF A NEW DATACENTER
by martin chamambo
I had issues with my master data storage domain and the only way was to set
the hosts in maintenence mode ,delete the datacenter so i can recreate
it....
I managed to delete the datacenter and the storage domains , and created a
new datacenter , but now the existing clusters are not part of a datacenter
and trying to add them to the datacenter gives out this error below
Error while executing action: Cannot edit Cluster. Changing management
network in a non-empty cluster is not allowed.
and by non empty i guess it means there is a host inside that cluster ?
fair enough
trying to change a node cluster comes with the Host Cluster Dropdown with
this
Datacenter:Undefined
How can i fix the catch 22 scenario without deleting clusters or hosts..
surely there should be a smarter way ?

VDSM overwrites network config
by Alan Cowles
Hey guys,
I'm in a lab setup currently with 2 hosts, running RHEV-3.5, with a
self-hosted engine on RHEL 6.9 servers. I am doing this in order to plot
out a production upgrade I am planning going forward to 4.0, and I'm a bit
stuck and I'm hoping it's ok to ask questions here concerning this product
and version.
In my lab, I have many vlans trunked on my switchports, so I have to create
individual vlan interfaces on my RHEL install. During the install, I am
able to pick my ifcfg-eth0.502 interface for rhevm, and ifcfg-eth1.504
interface for NFS, access the storage and create my self-hosted engine. The
issue I am running into is that I get into RHEV-M, and I am continuing to
set the hosts up or add other hosts, when I go to move my NFS network to
host2 it only allows me to select the base eth1 adapter, and not the VLAN
tagged version. I am able to tag the VLAN in the RHEV-M configured network
itself, but this has the unfortunate side effect of tagging a network on
top of the already tagged interface on host1, taking down NFS and the self
hosted engine.
I am able to access the console of host1, and I configure the ifcfg files,
vlan files, and bridge files to be on the correct interfaces, and I get my
host back up, and my RHEV-M back up. However when I try to make these
manual changes to host2 and get it up, the changes to these files are
completely overwritten the moment the host reboots connected to vdsmd
start-up.
Right now, I have vdsmd disabled, and I have host2 configured the way I
need it to be with the rhevm bridge on eth0.502, the NFS bridge on
eth1.504, and my VMNet "guest" bridge on eth1.500, however that leaves me
with a useless host from RHEV standards.
I've checked several different conf files to see where vdsmd is pulling
it's configuration from but I can't find it, or find a way to modify it to
fit my needs.
Any advice or pointers here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in
advance.

Latency threshold between Hosted Engine and Hosts

Hello.
I have a Engine which is hosted in a optimal location for the people who
access it and this Engine manage multiple Datacenters, some close by and
some far away in terms of latency.
What is the maximum latency advised between the Engine and the hosts for
a healthy operation or that doesn't matter much as long the Engine can
always reach the hosts ?
Currently the maximum latency I have between Engine and Hosts is 110ms
and sometimes when there is a non-optimal route latency goes up to
170ms. Should I be concerned about this ?
Thanks
Fernando

How do you oVirt? Here the answers!
by Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
a few weeks ago I opened a survey asking oVirt users about how they use
oVirt.
Here are the analytics of the survey:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1s3k4pq_U4vHTuUUKr6dOosGj_EGFxqEisansHlqn...
Most notable facts:
- 197 responses, two times the responses we got with the 3.6 survey!
- CentOS confims as the most used distribution for running oVirt engine
(89.8%) and Hypervisors (74.3% which become 94.2% including oVirt Node
which is a CentOS spin)
- Fedora is the second distribution (4.6%) mostly used only for runnig
oVirt engine
- oVirt Node jumped from 7.1% on 3.6 survey to 19.9% in 4.1!
- Surprisingly we have someone running both engine and hypervisor on Ubuntu
based system, within VMs. I'd like to hear more about this use case.
- Within other OS we had Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7 and Scientific
Linux (I guess 7, wasn't specified)
- Within the storage, there isn't a "winner" between NFS, Gluster and
iSCSI. Within Other Storage, Fiber Channel is the most used. We had also:
Ceph, DAS, EMC ScaleIO, GPFS
- Hosted Engine is the most used deployment choice with 58.4% (was 50.0% in
3.6)
- 65.8% of Hosted Engine users use it in Hyperconverged setup.
Thank you for your feedback and appreciation, we'll look into suggestions
you sent in the survey.

JUST CANT UNDERSTAND WHY OVIRT DOESNT HAVE A WEB-GUI FOR EDITING , REMOVING UNWANTED STORAGE DOMAINS

JUST CANT UNDERSTAND WHY OVIRT DOESNT HAVE A WEB-GUI FOR EDITING ,REMOVING
UNWANTED STORAGE DOMAINS
I configured openfiler as my iscsi storage and while i am able to connect
to it ....i wanted to change the IP address of the connecting IP to one of
the logical networks which i disignated as a STORAGE role.
This is a nightmare changing this and i have to set hosts in maintenence
mode and delete the datacenter ,
is there any other way ?

Memory ballooning not working on RHEV 4.1?
by Joseph Chapman
Hello all,
I have a RHEV 4.1 host running Windows 10 VMs. I have installed the balloon
driver on the VMs (RHEV guest tools), and enabled memory ballooning on the
cluster using RHEV-M. On the VMs, I have set the system memory to Memory
Size: 4GB, Maximum Memory: 16GB.
While I can manually hot plug memory, I am not seeing additional memory
being automatically allocated to the VMs during a SQL workload. The
documentation for RHEV 4.1 is not clear on whether or not this automatic
ballooning is functional (earlier documentation suggests that it is
functional only by use of an API).
I am new to RHEV and would appreciate some help troubleshooting this.
Please let me know if there's any additional information I should provide.
I messaged this mailing list on suggestion from someone in the IRC. I hope
this is in-bounds.
Thanks for your time!

virsh list
by Konstantin Raskoshnyi
Hi guys
I'm trying to run virsh list (or any other virsh commands)
virsh list
Please enter your authentication name: admin
Please enter your password:
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: authentication failed: authentication failed
But I have no clue about login:password ovirt uses.
I tried admin password, also tried to create new account with saslpasswd2
Which didn't work to.
Any solutions?

Hi,
I have an Ovirt installation with 3 nodes (5 soon), containing 6 network cards (8 soon), a multipath iSCSI array and I would like to know how you would advice me to choose which link to bond or not.
I thought about :
1+2 : ovirtmgmt (bond)
3+4 : iSCSI (multipath)
5 : VM and Display
6 : Migration
What do you think about this configuration ?
Is it a bad idea to set VM and display on the same network interface ?
Do ovirtmgmt need high bandwidth ?
In terms of bandwidth, is it a bad idea to have one single NIC for Migration ?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

cleanup old recovery backup
by eric stam
Good morning,
Just a question.
When I do an upgrade of a hosted-engine by the "hosted-engine
--upgarde-appliance" command the procedure will automatically make a backup
for recovery. Is there a way to remove an old backup, without finding out
yourself which files user used and which not (and hooping you will not
remove a wrong one).
