[Ovirt 4.0.6] Suggestion required for Network Throughput options

Hi, To increase network throughput we have changed txqueuelen of network device and bridge manually. And observed improved throughput. But in ovirt I not see any option to increase txqueuelen. Can someone suggest me what will be the right way to increase throughput ? Note: I am trying to increase throughput for ipsec packets. Thanks, ~Rohit

add fourth full gluster node and remove arbiter: ovirt 4.1 with hosted engine

Hi at all, we have a 3 node cluster with this configuration: ovirtzz 4.1 with 3 node hyperconverged with gluster. 2 node are "full replicated" and 1 node is the arbiter. Now we have a new server to add to cluster then we want to add this new server and remove the arbiter (or, make this new server a "full replicated" gluster with arbiter role? I don't know) Can you please help me to know what is the right way to do this? Or, Can you give me any doc or link that explain the steps to do this? Thank you in advance!

Storage, extend or new lun ?

Dear All, I've oVirt 3.5.3-1-1.el6 with two kind of storage , NFS and Fibre Channel. Each Hypervisor has HBA controller and Data CLutser has four Storage named: DATA_FC, DATA_NFS, EXPORT and ISO-DOMAIN. Anybody know how can I extend a DATA_FC ? Which is the best practies ? Extend LUN from HP MSA controller or adding a new lun ? if I extend lun inside HP MSA oVirt see the new size ? Enrico Thanks a lot. Best Regards

HostedEngine VM not visible, but running

Hi, I've migrated from a bare-metal engine to a hosted engine. There were no errors during the install, however, the hosted engine did not get started. I tried running: hosted-engine --status on the host I deployed it on, and it returns nothing (exit code is 1 however). I could not ping it either. So I tried starting it via 'hosted-engine --vm-start' and it returned: Virtual machine does not exist But it then became available. I logged into it successfully. It is not in the list of VMs however. Any ideas why the hosted-engine commands fail, and why it is not in the list of virtual machines? Thanks for any help, Cam

Help! No VMs start after reboot of cluster

Hi, I restarted my 3 host cluster after setting it into global maintenance mode and then shutting down all of the nodes and then bringing them up again. I moved it out of global maintenance mode and no VM is running, including the hosted engine. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks, Cam

I read this is mainly due to a 60 second delay in the ovirt-guest-agent. I got used to right-click and use "power off" instead of "shutdown", which is fine. My users make use of VM in a VM-pool. They get assigned a VM and after console disconnect the VM shuts down (default recommended behavior). My issue is that the users stays assigned to this VM for the full 90 seconds and cannot do "power off". Suppose he disconnected by accident, he has to wait 90 seconds until he is assigned to the pool again until he can connect to another VM. My questions are: - Is it possible to decrease the time delay of a VM shutdown? 90 seconds is quite a lot, 10 seconds should be enough - Is it possible for normal users to use "power off"? - Is it possible to "unallocate" the user from a VM if it is powering down? Unable to rename disks via REST API

Hello everyone, I'm having some problems about renaming some disks (setting a different alias, name or description) for VMs disks created from a template. When I get this URL https://ovirt-manager/ovirt-engine/api/disks/0123 I can see are the methods sparsify, export, move and copy. I tried to POST the following XML to the previous URL with no result (as expected, it won't work) <disk> <alias>my_machine_Disk1</alias> </disk> I'm quite sure I'm thinking about it in a wrong way (as usual). moVirt 2.0 RC 1 released!

Hia, the first RC of moVirt 2.0 has been released! You can get it from our GitHub [1]; the play store will be upgraded after considered stable. The main feature of this release is a support for managing multiple oVirt installations from one moVirt. Other changes: - actions/lists/dashboard are now filtered by selecting accounts/clusters in the left drawer - event lists now correctly working for single vm, host, etc.. - better syncing and network detection - cleaner ui design and connection settings - enhanced security and support for certificates (import from file) - sorting and filtering made more usable - more descriptive errors - other small enhancements and bug fixes We would greatly appreciate if you could try it and share your feedback with us. Moving thin provisioned disks question

Hello, I have a storage domain that I have to empty, moving its disks to another storage domain, Both source and target domains are iSCSI What is the behavior in case of preallocated and thin provisioned disk? Are they preserved with their initial configuration? Suppose I have one 500Gb thin provisioned disk Why can I indirectly see that the actual size is 300Gb only in Snapshots tab --> Disks of its VM ? Hi All, I have Ovirt 4.1 with 3 nodes on top glusterfs, all are running smoothly except USB redirection. I Have 2 VMs: - Windows 2016 64bit - Windows 10 64bit Although both are able to see USB have attached issue. On Past when testing on Windows 7 VM USB redirection was running smoothly. Ovirt remove network from hosted engine

Hi all, When setting up hosted engine setup on top gluster with 3 nodes, I had gluster configured on a separate network interface, as recommended. When I tried later to upload ISO from engine to ISO domain, the engine was not able to upload it since the VM did not have access to the separate storage network. I then added the storage network interface to the hosted engine and ISO upload succeeded. 1st question: do I need to add the network interface to engine in order to upload ISOs? does there exist any alternate way? Then I proceeded to configure bonding for the storage domain, bonding 2 NICs at each server. When trying to set a custom bond of mode=6 (as recommended from gluster) I received a warning that mode0, 5 and 6 cannot be configured since the interface is used from VMs. I also understood that having the storage network assigned to VMs makes it a bridge which decreases performance of networking. When trying to remove the network interface from engine it cannot be done, since the engine is running. 2nd question: Is there a way I can remove the secondary storage network interface from the engine? iSCSI storage domain and multipath when adding node

Hello, my configuration is what described here: http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2017-March/080992.html So I'm using iSCSI multipath and not bonding can anyone reproduce? Initial situation is only one node configured and active with some VMS I go and configure a second node; it tries to activate but networks are not all already mapped and so gies to non operational. I setup all networks and activate the node It happens that: - on the first node where I currently have 2 iSCSI connections and 2multipath lines (with p1p1.100 and p1p2) it is instantiated a new iSCSI SID using interface "default" and in multipath -l output I see now 3 lines - on the newly added node I only see 1 iSCSI SID using interface default My way to solve the situation was to go inside iscsi multipath section do nothing but save the same config brutally on first node iscsiadm -m session -u --> all iscsi sessions are closed after a while I see again the original 2 connections recovered, with correct interface names used - on second node iscsiadm -m session -u --> the only session is cloed nothing happens if I set to maintenance the node and then activate the node --> the 2 correct iscsi sessions are activated... Hi Michael, I'm glad that I could help. Yes, while USB3 has an impressive interface (and thus potential) speed of up to 5 gbps (or over 600 MB/sec) the actual hardware normally provides speeds which for basic DOKs are even under USB 2.0 spec. in most cases (under 60 MB/sec.). However, as I also mentioned, it will only affect the time it takes to load, and from my experience with any decent DOK it's quite OK, you don't even have to invest into ultra-expensive and ultra-fast one, especially if you don't plan to "re-burn" the DOK very often. Access VM Console on a Smart Phone with User Permission

Good day oVirt Users, I need some little help. I have a KVM and used oVirt for the management of VMs. What I want is that my client will log on to their account and access their virtual machine using their Smart phone. I tried to install mOvirt and yes can connect to the console of my machine, but it is only accessible for admin console. Tried to use web console, it downloaded console.vv but can't open it. Hot Memory add and Physical Memory guaranteed

Hello, i just tested the memory hot add to a vm. This vm had 2048 MB. I set the new memory to 2662 MB. I logged into the vm and i've seen that hasn't been any memory change, even if i said to the manager to apply memory expansion immediately. Memory shown by free -m is 1772 MB. Looking around i've found that that value was set in the option called "Physical Memory guaranteed". I tried setting this parameter to an higher value, but is still showing 1772, even if it says that "Memory" parameter will be changed immediately and minAllocatedMemory is changed at next boot. What is the right workflow to hot increase the ram of a vm? Ovirt adding routes

Hi, When installing an ovirt host I got these routes automatically added default dev ovirtmgmt table 2886865805 scope link 172.18.19.128/26 via 172.18.19.141 dev ovirtmgmt table 2886865805 What is their intended purpose? It seems to be stopping packets from being correctly routed to the local gateway. Thanks, Alan

migrating VMS from old hosted engine to new hosted engine

We are moving our VMs from an old 3.6 oVirt platform to a new oVirt 4.1 platform. I am looking for an easy way to migrate the VMs. ( I know about export domain, but this takes 2 times a copy action ) I tested and just detaching the Data domain and attaching it, didn't work. Then I found the VM import option: - Adding a ssh key gen and setting password on virsh - load a list of machines in the webinterface from VM import - when I start an import the system complains: The following VMs retrieved from external server qemu+ssh://root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/system are not in down status: VM [VM-NAME]. - I tried to suspend the VM, but this didn;t work either ( same error ) - Problem is ,when VM is shutdown, it disappears from this system list. Is there a way to directly import a VM from old oVirt platform to the new platform Looking forward to find a solution to quickly migrate our VMs. Best Regards, Paul Groeneweg

hosted engine local disk estimate for OVA file

Hi, I am in the middle of a disaster recovery situation trying to install ovirt 4.1 after a failure of some of our NFS systems. So I was redeploying 4.0 but there is a bug with the image uploader, that means I cant upload images. Our actually virtual machine hosts have very small HD's and the current 4.1 release installer thinks that the OVA extracted is 50GiB, I have exactly 50GB free! yay. So I did manage to hack the installer, to ignore my local disk space as the OVA is really only a few gigs in side. But its been pretty painful. Any chance of some one fixing the estimate there, I have read through the code, there was an attempt to find out the real size but they gave up and just guessed. -bd *tired sysadmin*

All firewalls are down, I have reinstalled the host, upgraded everything (host and engine), deleted and reinstalled hosts, I can ssh to all from all. Any clues?? Hello, supposing to have a Linux VM with ovirt-guest-agent installed, during a live snapshot operation it should be freeze of filesystems. Where to find confirmation of correct/successful interaction? /var/log/messages or agent log or other kind of files? Are there any limitations on filesystems that support freeze? Hello oVirt folks. I’m a traitor of the Xen movement and was looking for some good alternatives for XenServer hypervisors. I was aware of KVM for a long time but I was missing a more professional and appliance feeling of the product, and oVirt appears to deliver exactly what I’m looking for. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Xen is not good, I’m looking for equal or better alternatives, but I’m starting to get frustrated with oVirt. Firstly I’ve tried to install the oVirt Node on a VM in VMware Fusion on my notebook, it was a no go. For whatever reasons I don’t know vdsmd.service and libvirtd failed to start. I make sure that I was running with EPT support enabled to achieve nested virtualization, but as I said: it was a no go. So I’ve decommissioned a XenServer machine that was in production just to try oVirt. The hardware is not new, but’s it’s very capable: Dual Xeon E5506 with 48GB of system RAM, but I can’t get the hosted engine to work, it always insults my hardware: --- Hosted Engine deployment failed: this system is not reliable, please check the issue,fix and redeploy. It’s definitely a problem on the storage subsystem, the error is just random, at this moment I’ve got: [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Misc configuration': [-32605] No response for JSON-RPC StorageDomain.detach request. But on other tries it came up with something like this: No response for JSON-RPC Volume.getSize request. I was thinking that the problem was on the NFSv3 server on our FreeNAS box, so I’ve changed to an iSCSI backend, but the problem continues. This happens at the very end of the ovirt-hosted-engine-setup command, which leads me to believe that’s an oVirt issue. Dell firmware update problem

Hello I'm trying to update the BIOS firmware on a Dell PowerEdge with CentOS (just upgraded to 7.3) running oVirt 4.0 and it fails with an error mount: /dev/sdb is already mounted or /tmp/SECUPD busy The problem is acknoleged by Red Hat and there is a solution for it https://access.redhat.com/solutions/2671581 but well, I have no RH subscriptions :( Has anyone here encountered the same problem with CentOS and oVirt? GDeploy, thin provisioning and pools

problems migrating to hosted engine from bare metal

Hi, I created a new host to deploy a hosted engine, and then used a backup from the bare metal engine and restored this, as per the procedure in: http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Migrating_from_Bare_Met… Everything worked fine up until step 15 ('Continue setup') as the script said the engine was not responding. I tried the reboot option (option 3), but still it would not connect. So I could not do the final step involving the internal CA, adding the host to an existing cluster (of which there were two other hosts). I was able to connect via vnc and ssh fine to the engine, and from here I could see that the ovirt-engine service was up. I had to install the aaa-ldap extension package to enable ldap auth separately however, but once done I was able to log in, and it showed the old cluster as it was on the bare metal engine. I added the host that I created the hosted engine on, and it installed various packages and then I configured the network and it looked fine, apart from the fact that I could not see a VM named 'HostedEngine' in the list of VMs. I think however that this was not a properly working setup, as the NFS storage I used to setup the hosted engine became unavailable and I think this killed the hosted engine, which caused it to reboot the host it was on. The hosted engine has not come back since then, so I'm guessing it either isn't properly set up for HA or it needs the NFS storage or something else was not properly done by me in the setup. I've restarted the bare metal engine for now as I needed it running for now. My questions are: 1. My understanding is that the NFS storage is initially used to create the hosted engine disk image, and is temporary, and that the hosted engine later gets migrated to the storage used by the rest of the cluster (which in my case is directly attached to the hosts via fibre channel). I suspect that this did not happen. The bare metal engine had some local ISO storage (on a hard disk local to it), which will not be replicated to the hosted engine VM - will this cause a problem for the deployment? I can create some new ISO storage later if not. 2. What is the recommended way to recover from this situation? Should I just run 'hosted-engine --deploy' again and try and find out what is going wrong at step 15? I can probably get the disk image that was on NFS and mount it to find out what went wrong on the initial deployment, or I can run the deployment again and then get the log when it fails at step 15. Failed to activate ISO Ovirt 4.1

Hello Team, I am using Ovirt 4.1 for my production, we are facing issues with ISO Domain. We are facing issues with activating a ISO domain. Using mount -t nfs ovirt.fog.com:/var/lib/exports/iso /mnt we are able to mount the same in all hyp. While using ovirt UI which is giving error. Pls find attach vdsm & engine logs. Regards Rajat

Hi Folks, I just got the go ahead to install oVirt to use as a lab. The servers are: 1xdl360 4x30010k in raid 10 for OS (Manager) should this be clustered with another server for resiliency 5xdl380 2x30010k for OS 6x1TB7.2k RAID5 on each for a data store It will all be behind a proxy and be connected with 1GB links, (2x4 bonds) My plan is to have 1 manager as this is a lab scenario and not production, (yet), or is it better to have a cluster. Is it ok to have a data store on each host, (they won't let me have dedicated storage yet)? Is it wise to share these data_stores between hosts or should 1 store be dedicated to each host individually? There is no need for performance, basically as long as it runs it will work. The final intention is to have templates for OpenStack and CEPH plus lots of Linux examples set up with SDN etc. We have a 90% Windows shop but it is all rapidly changing to OpenStack et al and I want to try and give people the opportunity to use Linux in the lab before they are let lose in production. Plus it gives me the chance to show management exactly what ovirt can do. Any help, advice or links would be greatly appreciated, BR/David
