Hi, I know thta the VM portal add issue with displaying user VMs. It seem to be fix with this bug *https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=148087 <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=148087>* But if i try the portal does not show anything, My engine is up to date with 4.2 repo. Hi, We have installed oVirtNode-4.2.4 in 3 host machines and is running fine. All the hosts machines and the engine are on Public IP address space 15x.xxx.xx.xx Host1 15x.xxx.xx.xx Host2 15x.xxx.xx.xx Host3 15x.xxx.xx.xx Engine VM We wanna move the cluster nodes and the engine VM to the privaye IP address space and access them through VPN. Q: Power failure - proper data center shutdown procedure

Hi, I have the following simple setup: oVirt engine - 4.2.3 (running as KVM appliance on SuSE Linux) node1.1 - 4.2.1 (installed with clean CentOS and newer elrepo 4.15.4-1el1 kernel) node1.2 - 4.2.3 (installed with clean CentOS and newer elrepo 4.16.2-1el7 kernel) VMs - Debian, CentOS, and Windows guests, with ovirt-agent installed (except one with Linux telephony software). What is the proper shutdown procedure in case of power failure? I have simple scripts which simply run “shutdown now” on each host after 10 min. However, oVirt nodes fail to shutdown properly, process take about 25 minutes. node1.2 libvirt-guests.sh[10696]: Waiting for guest GUEST_VM_NAME to shut down node1.1 - these processes took VERY LONG time: Unmounting /rhev/data-center/mnt/node11.mydomain.com:_vm_raid_nfs_export… Unmounting /rhev/data-center/mnt/node12.mydomain.com:_vm_raid_nfs_disks… Unmounting /rhev/data-center/mnt/node11.mydomain.com:_vm_raid_nfs_disks… Unmounting /rhev/data-center/mnt/node11.mydomain.com:_vm_raid_nfs_iso… on both nodes: [] Forcibly powering off: job timed out as result, OS is down, server is not, still drawing power from UPS battery. Powering on was problematic, I had to restart node11 2nd time before it becomes “green” in oVirt engine. One VM failed to start with error message “Can’t acquire ticket” and struck with grey arrows (with no possibilty to make anything) - unfortunately, I forgot to take screenshot or record exact message. Hi, I am running oVirt in version 4.2 and just started getting this error message upon login: Uncaught exception occurred. Please try reloading the page. Details: (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) : Please have your administrator check the UI logs The relevant content of the ui.log is given below (or, nicely formatted at https://paste.ee/p/LUrbt) I am able to access the js file directly using a browser so the file is definitely not missing and is readable. However, the side-bar of the ovirt webadmin is not showing (or more precisely: it loads and shows for a split-second and then disappears). Cannot switch to maintenance, image transfer is in progress

We've just updated our hosted engine to 4.2.4. When trying to place one of the hosts in maintenance mode, we get the error in the subject line. I've found the following that looks to be the issue we are hitting: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1586126 I've looked in the engine database with the following command and results: engine=# select disk_id from image_transfers ; disk_id -------------------------------------- 52966b71-2d01-4a16-9830-65a888717656 c72d64b7-93c9-485b-b031-29c785c5bf9a (2 rows) Full details on these records show that they are indeed old - there are no transfers actually in progress. Can anyone confirm the correct way to remedy this? The bug report notes changing the phase on the record in question. Before I try that, I'd like confirmation if anyone else has seen this issue and resolved it. And if this is the resolution, can you describe the exact psql commands to achieve this? Thanks

Freshly installed ovirt-node-ng 4.2.4 unable to deploy hosted-engine

Hello List, after having freshly installed my first ovirt-node-ng 4.2.4 configuring basic networking and preparing NFS Shares on my NFS-Server I would like to deploy hosted engine on this first host and NFS Storage. In Cockpit I set Performance Profile to "virtual host" and mounted an export from my Sotrage as /mnt/engine (Which shouldn't be needed since I expected the engine-setup wizard to ask me...) I'm, already stuck when selecting "Hosted Engine Deploy oVirt hosted engine on storage that has already been provisioned": save image "hosted-engine-setup" on the command-line is not available. Furthermore I've warnings in Node Health Status. I didn't configure discard anywhere. To monitoring the network interfaces, I have a script that check if ifAdminStatus and ifOperStatus values matches in snmp. Sync LDAP users in Ovirt

Hi Team, Good Morning. I configured the ovirt with LDAP setup. Is there an *oVirt tool* (or any way) to add all the users from LDAP to Ovirt? *Observation* : 1) I am able to see that when I try to login with the user from LDAP, that user is added in Ovirt database, So Is there a way to sync all the users from LDAP to Ovirt using any oVirt tool or API? Raid configuration for single instance

Hello everyone, Based on your experiance or well know best practices can you provide me with an advice on raid configuration ? I have a single server, that will have a couple of brand new enterprise grade ssds, spinning and one pci nvme card. The server ( Dell PE r630 ) comes wirt Perc h730p raid controller with 2gb cache. I am thinking of creating a raid 1 array with the 2 of ssd's and ne raid10 array woth the rest of for spinning hdds. Then different gluster volume on each, to provide me 2 ( ssd / sata ) storage domains. What do you think on haveing raid1 / raid10 as underlying HA storage for gluster volumes ? At the moment a have some consumer devices ( samsung evo & seagate spinning shingled type ) and about every day the vms get into "VM has been paused due to storage IO errors" - i am thinking because of bad type hdds. Deleting master storage

Hi, Trying to build an ovirt system and i'm stuck with storage problem. I've prepared iscsi storage and seems like my storage had some troubles and now i could not get it online again. That is another story. I just want to delete master storage domain on ovirt manager. Looks like this is not allowed since there is no storage domain candidate to take master role. Also i could not add another storage domain becouse that is not allowed too. It says "can not add because there is no active storage domain" or something similar. Basically i'm stuck and don't know how to delete storage domain (master) without tear down all of them.

Backup Strategies

Hi! We use in our test infrastructure a NetApp shared fc storage and wonder how a backup strategie could look like. Full backups aren't the problem - trigger HV Snapshots including guest FS freeze / quiece, trigger NetApp Snapshot, delete HV Snapshots. Currently I'm struggeling on how to recover those Backups. I would provide the Snapshot volume to the hosts and import it as a new data domain, so the hosts have the snapshot disks as logical volumes. But how could I recover respectively move the content of the snapshot volumes onto the currently used vm "disk volumes"? If I have the proof of concept then scripting it to make this process more comfortable wouldn't be a problem. How do you do your backups with shared san? How can I provide incremental Backups? How to keep VM running when a storage domain is offline

Hello, I am trying to understand how I can prevent a VM from being paused when one of it's disks is unavailable due to a problem with the storage domain. The scenario: A VM with 3 disks. OS disk on a highly available domain. And Two large disks each on separate domains. (so a total of 3 domains). The two large disks are mirrored using ZFS - but when one of the storage domains goes down the VM pauses. Is is possible to configure the VM to not pause when certain storage domains are unavailable? So instead of getting Paused due to IO error the disk would just be missing until that domain was brought back online? Thanks, -Matthew

Error when change CD

Hi! I created an NFS ISO Domain but couldn't find any upload button. Because uploading ISO files on the Data Domain I went that comfortable way. I successfully started Installation of Windows Server 2016 until the virtio Drivers for the disk are needed. So I tried to Change CD but following error occured: "Error while executing Action Change CD: Drive Image file could not be found" Changing CD works when using another ISO file like Centos. The iso itself is good - I can read it on my own System - but anyhow I tried another download of the virtio-win-iso - with the same result. I already found several threads around this Topic - e.g. "do not upload ISO files to data Domain" So I'd like to know how the upload to the ISO Domain is supposed to work if there's no "upload" button? Directly via SCP into the subfolders? Did I miss some configuration or is the workflow in uploading ISO's respectively in installing a Windows VM wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hello, I need help to resolve Ovirt AD auth setup issue. I have setup ovirt-engine-4.2 and I am trying to integrate with AD for user authentication. It appears you have permission issues on your storage. I see you are using storageType='LOCALFS' per https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/ "Ensure that the directory has permissions allowing read/write access to the vdsm user (UID 36) and kvm group (GID 36)." Corrupted Disk Images

Hi, Over the past few weeks i have had a number of Windows VM Disk start showing up as corrupted. I Attempt to boot into recover mode and run the normal recover tools (chkdsk, sfc /scannow, etc.) Unable to repair with status 50. Looking through Ovirt, i do not see any thing in the logs. VM is Running off a gluster replica 3 volume. The corruption does not seem to be isolated to one specific gluster volume. I have also seen corruption with an NFS Volume. Issue seemed to start after moving from a Centos 7 Install, to a Ovirt Node image. I have mainly seen corruption with Windows 10 Images, but a couple of 2003/2012 server OS's as well. Where would be the best place to start looking at why the VM HD's are getting corrupted? Importing from Remote Virt Server

Hi All, I see that this was asked and answered (kinda) here https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2016-October/076760.html However, I have imported the keys to my root user on my nodes and my engine. But I am still getting the error in the gui: VDSM ToolsCluster-01 command GetVmsNamesFromExternalProviderVDS failed: Cannot recv data: Permission denied, please try again. Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic,password).: Connection reset by peer At the command line of the engine I can do this as root with a being prompted for a password: virsh -r -c 'qemu+ssh://root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/system' list -all But if I run this as vdsm it prompts me for password and fingerprint verification every time. Hello, I'm trying to find out what updates are included with the 4.2.4 update and when I run yum check-update there are no ovirt updates available. My running systems shows "4.2.3.5-1.el7.centos". Shouldn't I see a list of 4.2.4.x ovirt patches available? It looks like there are several different pages describing the update process and I’m not sure which ones in particular apply in this case. I’ve got a cluster with 6 hosts, 3 of which can run the hosted engine. I need a help to resolve Ovirt AD auth setup issue. I have setup ovirt-engine-4.2 and I am trying to integrate with AD for user authentication. How does this filter work ? Do I have to set a custom property on the engine ? Should I add clean traffic on vnic profile and then add GATEWAY_MAC and IP ? is there a way to select it on a specific vm? I installed the hook on one hook restarted the engine put the host in maintenance restarted libvirt exited the host from maintenance. I put the host on maintenance removed the hook. Restarted the host. The message keeps popping up Now I have a message "Finished activating host" popping up a lot of times, maybe a 100 times.. Should I reinstall the specific host ?

I've hit the issue described in: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3393181 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1561052 I have one VM with three disks that cannot start. Logs indicate a null pointer exception when trying to locate the snapshot. I've verified in the engine db that no "Active" snapshot exists for the VM (this can also be seen in the WebUI). oVirt hosts and engine are both (now) on RHEL7.5. Not sure if this snapshot failed to create before the hosts were updated to 7.5 - the VM in question is a server that never gets shutdown but rather is migrated around while we perform host maintenance. oVirt: v4.2.1.7-1 Host: kernel: 3.10.0-862.9.1 KVM: 2.9.0-16 libvirt: libvirt-3.9.0-14.el7_5.6 VDSM: vdsm-4.20.27.1-1 The article just says to contact RH support, but I don't have a RHEV support agreement for my oVirt cluster. Anyone know how to recover this VM?

Ovirt 3:6 to 4:2 migration

Hello Team Ovirt, We are running Ovirt3.8 version in our prod, we want to upgrade to 3.8 to 4.2. At present we have 2 (hyp A & hyp B)physical host ovirt 3.8 is running with self hosted engine with data domain and iso one cluster and data center. What we were thing do this migration in following fashion. Plan A. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. Install self hosted engine 7. Attach Data Domain 8. Attach Export Domain which was use in ovirt 3.8 9. Import all vm's from there to new ovirt 4.2 10. Once all the vm's got up and running poweroff hyp A 11. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp A and attach cluster. Plan B. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. Install self hosted engine 7. Attach Data Domain 8. Export from ovirt 3.8 to ovirt 4.2 9. Once all the vm's got up and running poweroff hyp A 10. Cant create ISCSI data domain

Hello all, i try to create a new data domain on ISCSI storage following this documentation: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/ Discovery of ISCSI target is working but after logging in to the target no LUNs are found or displayed, so i cant finish the procedure. On the SPM i see an ISCSI session, and LUN 1 is attached as /dev/sdc. The ISCSI system is a FreeNAS installation and im running ovirt 4.2. Any suggestion how to solve this problem? Regards, Robert

Hello, I'm working on development of script to backup and restore ovirt VMs. I saw some examples from sdk (https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk /tree/master/sdk/examples) to backup and restore VMs, but for backup ovf VM i'm using the vm.initialization.configuration.data and this ovf it keeps the snapshots information and don't have disks ids reference. I would like to known if we have some method to get the ovf with disks ids? Failed to Activated Host

Hi Today i had plan to start upgrading my installation to the latest 4.2. As i was already on a 4.2.x version i have figured it will be easy .. well.guess what i have having trouble re-activating one of the freshly upgraded host. So here is the resume. My setup have 3 hosts that are also part of a gluster pool. Those are the original host that was use to setup the HA engine with glusterfs. One of the 3 host is only used for arbiter and can also run the engine. But nothing else can run on it because it is a fairly small machine. I have also 6 others hosts for running vms that are not part of the gluster pool. So first thing i did to upgrade is set the global maintenance. Update the Engine/restart the engine and remove global maintenance.. that went without a glitch. Next i choose the arbiter for the first machine to upgrade. Then set the machine to maintenance run the upgrade and reboot the host. That went also without a glicth. Now here is the glitchy part. When i try to reactivate the host i got a strange error with a gluster peer command that failed on a host that is not in the gluster peer list. Here is the two errors i had. *"Gluster command [gluster peer probe ovhost3] failed on server sfmo5002ov74."* *"Add Host failed error: ovhost3 is either already part of another cluster of having volumes configured return code: 3"* One thing i do not understand is the sfmo5002ov74 is not part of the gluster pool. It does not provide any bricks to the system. Now i am not sure what to look for. I have stop the upgrade process until i figure out the issue. Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks Carl

We have more USB devices redir (There are 8)，But oVirt supports only 6. OVIRT 4.2: MountError on Posix Compliant FS

Hi all, I've deployed the ovirt Version 4.2.4.5-1.el7 on a small cluster and I'm trying to use as datastorage domain a configured Spectrum Scale (GPFS) distributed filesystem for test it. I've completed the configuration of the storage, and the filesystem defined are correctly mounted on the client hosts as we can see: gpfs_kvm gpfs 233T 288M 233T 1% /gpfs/kvm gpfs_fast gpfs 8.8T 5.2G 8.8T 1% /gpfs/fast The content output of the mount comand is: gpfs_kvm on /gpfs/kvm type gpfs (rw,relatime) gpfs_fast on /gpfs/fast type gpfs (rw,relatime) I can write and read to the mounted filesystem correctly, but when I try to add the local mounted filesystem I encountered some errors related to the mounting process of the storage. I don't know if this change affect the ovirt mounting process. Can you help me to add this filesystem to the ovirt environment? The parameters that I used previously are ok? Or i need to do some modification? Its possible that the process fails because i dont have a device related to the gpfs filesystems on /dev? Can we apply some kind of workaround to mount manually the filesystem to the ovirt environment? Ex. create the dir /rhev/data-center/mnt/_gpfs_kvm manually and then mount the /gpfs/kvm over this? It's posible to modify the code to bypass some comprobations or something? Reading the available documentation over Internet I find that ovirt was compatible with this fs (gpfs) implementation, because it's POSIX Compliant, this is a main reason for test it in our cluster. Ovirt system crash when starting VM with Quadro GPU

I have recently been using an old Radeon R9 270X lying around without issue, until this card seemed to have kicked the bucket. I had an Nvidia Quadro P2000 lying around I thought I would try. After installing it into my system, it showed up in the PCI device as anticipated. I based both devices to my Windows 10 guest. It shows up a a GP106GL and a separate audio component. The same thing that happened with the AMD Radeon Card. The events just shows the VM's being terminated without giving a reason, and I am hoping for some guidance. Currently using a single node setup, running ovirt 4.2.3. Any ideas or places to check would be much appreciated!

Hi, We're using ovirt-engine-sdk-python 4.1.6 on oVirt 4.1.9, currently we're trying to delete some snapshots via a script like this: sys_serv = conn.system_service() vms_service = sys_serv.vms_service() vm_service = vms_service.vm_service(vmid) snaps_service = vm_service.snapshots_service() snaps_service.service('SNAPSHOT-ID').remove() This works, mostly... however, sometimes the deletion fails: Failed to delete snapshot 'snapshot name' for VM 'vm'. Is it currently possible to know via Python-SDK that the deletion actually failed? I know I can check the state of a snapshot, but I'd like to check the result of the task. Is that possible somehow? Windows VMs won't boot in debug mode

Hi Everyone, I've been having problems getting Windows 10 VMs to boot in debug mode after turning on debugging over network (steps below). Also, device manager in Windows is not showing the processors' node which might be related (same reason why Windows is refusing to boot in debug mode?). I don't have any of these problems when I use generic KVM or Proxmox KVM. To turn on debugging in Windows, I do the follwoing from an admin terminal window: bcdedit /debug on bcdedit /dbgsettings net hostip:a.b.c.d port:p key:1.2.3.4 Any help will be appreciated, Thanks, Andrew

Jump from a disk to its storage domain from VM disk

Hello, currently on 4.2.3 I can - Select Storage --> Disks - Select disk link in the line (in the "Alias" column) - In the new disk page select "Storage" tab and I can see the related Domain Name and its information (eg free space if I want to extend the disk) --> it would be nice to have a "link" on domain name so that you can directly jump to Storage --> Domains --> Domain Name It would be nice to have similar behavior also directly starting from Compute --> Virtual Machines Select VM --> Disks Select disk Here I can select "edit" and then in the edit window I can see information about storage domain between the other fields. It would be nice to have a pointer to directly go to the storage domain containing that disk. Gianluca

Hello everyone, I have two things that i really need to understand regarding storage scaling using gluster. Basically, I am trying to figure out a way to go from 1 single instance to multiple nodes cluster. 1. Single node SelfHosted Engine HyperConverged setup - scale instance up to 3 nodes: - the gluster volumes are created as distributed type. - is there a procedure to migate this single-host scenario to multiple nodes, considering that the 3 nodes setup is using replica 3 gluster volumes ? 2. 3 Nodes SelfHosted Engine - add more storage nodes - how should I increase the size of the already present replica 3 volumes ? - should the volumes be as distribute-replicated in an environment larger than 3 nodes ? 3. Hello Team Ovirt, We are running Ovirt3.8 version in our prod, we want to upgrade to 3.8 to 4.2. At present we have 2 (hyp A & hyp B)physical host ovirt 3.8 is running with self hosted engine with data domain and iso one cluster and data center. What we were thing do this migration in following fashion. Plan A. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. Install self hosted engine 7. Attach Data Domain 8. Attach Export Domain which was use in ovirt 3.8 9. Import all vm's from there to new ovirt 4.2 10. Once all the vm's got up and running poweroff hyp A 11. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp A and attach cluster. Plan B. 1. oVirt reports using Grafana

Heya! I've been whishing for reports in oVirt ever since the old 'Jasper Reports' was removed. For an Enterprise, having pretty graphs to look at is a must. Searching the subject, I've found this[*] and have managed to get it installed OK but having issues trying to follow the guide setting it up. First of all, I think the guide should have at least mentioned that 'pg_hba.conf' needs to be edited for the read only user to be able to connect to the database, I scratched my head around that for a while before I got it. When I first type in the query example, I got syntax errors: 'pq: syntax error at or near "$"'. I continued anyways since I figured it would be solved at a later point, which turned out to be true, since the next step is to use the "Templating feature" to add variables. Unfortunately this doesn't go so well, even though I followed the instructions very carefully. After hitting save on the first variable I am rewarded with the error message: 'Template variables could not be initialized: pq: column "en_us" does not exist.' Are the queries stated in the guide still correct? Hello! I would like to read your thoughts regarding a new implementation we are about to do at work Our infrastructure is as follows There are 9 servers who will be used for running vm's Network is 2x10G + 4x1G ethernet per server each has 2x 10C xeon processors and 192GB RAM and 2x 300GB 10K Enterprise SAS 6Gbps, Hot Swap HDD There are 3 servers who will be used for storage. Network is 2x10G + 4x1G ethernet per server each has 2x 8c Xeon processors with 128GB RAM 2x 300GB 10000RPM, 2.5", Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Hot Swap 6x 200GB WesternDigital HGST ultrastar HUSMM1620ASS200 ssd Each server has a jbod box connected to the server through sas interface 12x 4TB The ovirt installation is expected to run 250-200 VM's on maximum load. Expected to run on a big VM there is our mail server which is pretty loaded, has about 50000 registred users and about half of them are pretty active. What I'm currently thinking is : have hosted vm on compute servers storage, as a stand alone non managed volume of about 150GB. but I would like the engine to be stored on more than 3 servers. Any thoughts ? On the vm storage since high availability is a must I will probably set the servers in raid6 with a spare each and then I will do 3 volumes(2 data bricks + 1 arbiter brick on each server) on glusterfs replica 3 arbiter 1. This will give me about 36TB usable per storage server. I'm highly concerned on how glusterfs will perform regarding the email server. Right now email server is on a vm running on KVM and it gets it's storage from an EMC storage. I'm not expecting Gluster to perform as the EMC storage but I would like to know if it can handle it. I'm thinking of dedicating a gluster volume exclusively Is it better to give to the email vm the gluster volume as a disk(s) from ovirt or directly mount it through the vm? ovirt will force the use of gfapi if I set it on the engine. on the other hand if I use this, how sharding will perform. On the other hand, If I mount it as a glusterfs volume directly on the vm how will it perform through fuse? I have 6x200gb ssd's per storage server. Will it do any good to add these as a tiering volume? What should the shard block size be in that case should it be smaller to utilise the ssd's better ? Will performance be better if I use ceph through iscsi with multipath? I read that ceph needs more nodes to perform suitably and that iscsi adds considerable overhead. I'd love to read your thoughts on this.

Host reboot failed

Hello, [oVirt 4.2.4.5-1.el7] Sequence : - Among 7 active UP hosts, one of them runs zero VM - On this (still in UP state) host, I run a SSH-restart via the web GUI - The host gracefully shuts down then reboots, with no issue - In the web GUI, as in real life, the host stays in Reboot state forever A this point, the engine can ping it, can ssh-connect to it, the host seems to have zero issue. In the web GUI, I can not put it into active state because it is not in maintenance state. It stays in reboot state. I can not either put it in maintenance state because it stays in reboot state. This state lasts long enough to allow me type this mail, look into logs, and as I was about to send logs, I see the host is returning to life (its states comes back as UP). I don't type fast, so after the host has finished rebooting, maybe 5 or 10 minutes have passed before the engine links again to the host. Before posting additional logs and comments, does anybody know if this is a know bug or behavior, or do I have to open a BZ? Regards, -- Nicolas ECARNOT

Hi, After installing ovirt 3.5 on centOS6.9 the ovirt-engine has stopped. while restarting the engine the error comes "/usr/share/jboss-as" not found. I installed jboss-as7.7.7final and again restart ovirt-engine. now it says ovirt-engine started, but when i checj the status, it shows ovirt-engine stopped, but PID file exist. VDI - SPICE zero clients

Hi, I gt hold of a 10zig V1200-P for testing VDI under ovirt/RHEV, as I'd read that they support SPICE. However, I haven't found how to connect it successfully to a VM as yet. Has anyone had any experience with these using ovirt/RHEV? I haven't been able to find any manuals or support info on the 10zig website regarding these V1200-P zero clients. I've read that they are discontinuing SPICE support in the future, but I just need to be able to demonstrate it working for now. Thanks for any help, Cam

Console issues in a distributed environment over NAT

Hi all, i'm trying to deploy oVirt to manage multiple 'data centers' (really just very basic deployments of single hosts using local storage that are deployed in varying geographic locations), where each host/resource pool is (unfortunately) only accessible via NAT. I've setup port-forwards for all functions, including SPICE/VNC, but am running into issues with the 'console' button in the GUI. When I initially added the host I added it using the NAT IP, however when trying to connect to console the console.vv file generated from the GUI references the local (private) IP of the host, instead of the NAT IP of the upstream firewall - so I have to manually open the file to change it to the NAT IP in order to connect to a VM's console. This is a minor annoyance for me, but it does ultimately the tool will be used by others who are less comfortable with steps like these. Is there a way around this, to have the console.vv generate with the IP oVirt is using to connect to the host, instead of its discovered local IP? Also if you can think of any other concerns I may encounter in a NAT deployment like this, please share! Thanks!

Hello, I try to mount an NFS Data share from a EMC VNXe3200 export. Unfortunately, NFS share cannot be mount, there is permission error. (Indeed, after the same issue on another NFS ISO repo, I've change exported directory user/group to 36:36, and O-Virt NFS mount was great). So, I think issue with my VNXe3200 is regarding UID / GID owner on VNXe3200 side. After webex with EMC support, change owner / permission on VNXe side seems not possible / supported. PXE LOCALBOOT issue

Hey all, Provisioning a host with Foreman 1.17.1/Katello 3.6. The host kickstarts fine but when it goes to reboot, iPXE fails to load the local disk when the Foreman local boot kickstart menu ( https://github.com/theforeman/community-templates/blob/develop/provisioning…, line 4-10) sends the command "LOCALBOOT 0". It simply fails and says "No more network devices. No bootable device." Is this a bug in iPXE? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Mike

Hi all, I did a routine maintenance today (updating the hosts) to ovirt cluster (4.2) and I have one VM that was complaining about an invalid snapshot. After shutdown of VM the VM is not able to start again, giving the error: VM Gitlab is down with error. Hello, There is something I don't understand in permissions. I'm using Ovirt 4.2.3.5-1. I created a user : - ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user add etudiant2 --attribute=firstName=Etudiant2 --attribute=lastName=Etudiant2-Lastname - ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user password-reset etudiant2 --password-valid-to="2025-01-01 10:30:00Z" On the Administration Portal I gave him (etudiant2) the permission UserVmManager on only one VM and nothing else. But when he logs in the VM Portal he can view, start, stop all the VM. I think it's because all users are member of the group Everyone and this group has by default the UserRole. And in my config (the default/install config) the UserRole can do Basic Operation an VM. Moreover the UserRole is given to the group Everyone on all VM I created, and I can't remove this permission (Remove button is greyed). How can I make a VM "private", only visible by one user ? Device Mapper Timeout when using Gluster Snapshots

I am facing this trouble since version 4.1 up to the latest 4.2.4, once we enable gluster snapshots and accumulate some snapshots (as few as 15 snapshots per server) we start having trouble booting the server. The server enters emergency shell upon boot after timing out waiting for snapshot devices. Waiting a few minutes and pressing Control-D then boots the server normally. In case of very large number of snapshots (600+) it can take days before the sever will boot. Attaching journal log, let me know if you need any other logs. hyperconverged cluster - how to change the mount path?

Hi list, I'm looking for an advice how to change the mount point of the hosted_storage due to a hostname change. When I set up our hyperconverged lab cluster (host1, host2, host3) I populated the mount path with host3:/hosted_storage which wasn't very clever as it brings in a single point of failure (i.e. when host3 is down). So I thought adding a round robin dns/hosts entry (i.e. gluster1) for host 1 to 3 and changing the mount path would be a better idea. But the mount path entry is locked in web gui and I couldn't find any hint how to change it manually (in database, shared and local configuration) in a consistent way without risking the cluster. So, is there a step by step guide how to achieve this without reinstalling (from backup)? Advice on deploying oVirt hyperconverged environment Node based

Hello All, I am about deploying a new Ovirt system for our developers that we plan to be hyperconverged environment Node based. The system workload would be mostly used for builders that compiling our code , which involves with lots of small files and intensive IO. I plan to build two glustered volume "layers" one based on sas drives for OS spin on, and second for Nvme based for intensive IO. I would expect that the system will be resilient/high availability and in the same time give enough good IO request for vm builders that will be at least 6 to 8 vm guests. The system hardware would be as follows: *chassis*: 4x HP DL380 gen8 *each server hardware:* *cpu*: 2x e5-2690v2 *memory*:256GB *Disks*:12x 1.2TB sas 10k disks , 2 mirror for os (or using usk kingstone 2x 128gb mirror) rest for vm os volume. *Nvme*: 2x960GB Kingstone KC1000 for builders compiling source code *Network: *4 ports Intel 10Gbit/s SFP + Given above configuration and theory, my question would be what would be best practice in terms of Gluster configuration *Distributed,Replicated,Distributed Replicated,Dispersed,Distributed Dispersed*? What is the suggestion for hardware raid type 5 or 6 , or use ZFS? Network nodes communication , i intend to use 3 ports for storage communication and one port for guests network , my question regarding Gluster inter communication , what is better would i gail from 3x 10G LACP or 1 network for each gluster volume? change from LDAP to AD authentication

Hello, as part of our policy I have to change from LDAP to Active Directory for authentication in our oVirt system. I have managed to configure a test system that allows users to login using the CN (sAMAccountName) as before. The users in the system using the AD namespace are using their UPN for their user name. Do we have to copy permissions from all the old accounts to their new accounts or is there a way to rename them to the UPN retaining there old permissions? Thanks, Paul S.

Cannot import a qcow2 image

Hello, I' m trying without success to import a qcow2 file into ovirt. I tried on a ISCSI datadomain and an nfs datadomain. I struggled quite a lot to have the "test connection" succed ( I write a small shell script to "deploy" letsencryt certificates into ovirt engine) Doc is not clear on the fact that certificates for imageio-proxy are different than for main engine… Now, the upload fails with Transfer was stopped by system. Reason: failed to add image ticket to ovirt-imageio-proxy. Image gets stuck in "transfer paused by system" Any idea ? ovrit is up to date: 4.2.4 on both engine and hosts.

OVN and MTU of vnics based on it clarification

Hello, I'm testing a virtual rhcs cluster based on 4 nodes that are CentOS 7.4 VMs. So the stack is based on Corosync/Pacemaker I have two oVirt hosts and so my plan is to put two VMs on first host and two VMs on the second host, to simulate a two sites config and site loss, before going to physical production config. Incidentally the two hypervisor hosts are indeed placed into different physical datacenters. So far so good. I decided to use OVN for the intracluster dedicated network configured for corosync (each VM has two vnics, one on production lan and one for intracluster). I detected that the cluster worked and formed (also only two nodes) only if the VMs run on the same host, while it seems they are not able to communicate when on different hosts. Ping is ok and an attempt of ssh session between them on intracluster lan, but cluster doesn't come up So after digging in past mailing list mails I found this recent one: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/RMS7XFOZ67O3ER… where the solution was to set 1400 for the MTU of the interfaces on OVN network. It seems it resolves the problem also in my scenario: - I live migrated two VMs on the second host and rhcs clusterware didn't complain - I relocated a resource group composed by several LV/FS, VIP and application from VM running on host1 to VM running on host2 without problems. So the question is: can anyone confirm what are guidelines for settings vnics on OVN? Is there already a document in place about MTU settings for OVN based vnics? Other particular settings or limitations if I want to configure a vnic on OVN? Thanks, Gianluca

Hello, I'm configuring a virtual rhcs cluster and would like to use fence_rhevm agent for stonith. As VMs composing the 4-nodes cluster I'm using CentOS 7.4 os with fence-agents-rhevm-4.0.11-66.el7_4.4.x86_64; I see that in 7.5 the agent is fence-agents-rhevm-4.0.11-86.el7_5.2.x86_64 but with no modification for the /usr/sbin/fence_rhevm python script apart the BUILD_DATE line. Some questions: - it seems it is still in API v3 even if deprecated; any particular reason? Possible to update to V4? Can I create a RFE bugzilla? This is in fact what I get in engine events registering connection: Client from address "10.4.4.68" is using version 3 of the API, which has been deprecated since version 4.0 of the engine, and will no longer be supported starting with version 4.3. Hi, can anyone explain differences between Ovirt and RHEV in version 4.1 ? I know that RHEV has diffrent product life-cycle, and there are some diffrences in installation process. Do you know if there are any additional featuers in Ovirt or RHEV ? Do you know any oifficial statements from RH about differences ? Hi I've looking for some ideas about designing disaster recovery planning with ovirt 4.2. Since 4.2 we have options to have intergration with disaster recovery site also. I went through some videos at internet and want to share if those are correct or not. Thus you can help me regarding what other things I should be having ideas during planning and designing more about this. 1. We've to keep both sites on and already created datacenter, cluster and one site with storage domain attached and other site with no storage domain. 2. We've to keep latency of 10ms at maximum between both sites. 3. Have to configure virtual machines with affinity group. 4. The VM's which are configured as high-available vm, will be migrated first. 5. There's an Ansible script while have to run to fail over and fail back. Now, please could you help me out regarding this. 1. Where can I find this ansible script? Is this https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-ansible-disaster-recovery.git? 2. Can this script run at rhv also ? or just for ovirt? Or what other changes I have to make for rhv to have this functionalities? 3. How ovirt/rhv works with the OVN compared to NSX? Is there's any challenges ? 4. Can you share me some high and low level diagram related to rhv disaster planning? 5. How the storage migrates on backend ? During the script ? 6. Where do I run this script? During fail over at primary site and during fail back at secondary site? 7. Basically since only the storage migrates and all other components are on already so basically backend it's only dealing with storage migration according to defined policies ? Is your engine functioning at all? I'm not sure if you're saying your entire engine doesn't work, or just host deploy doesn't work. What version of ovirt engine is this? How did you install -- fresh installation, upgrade? From source or rpm? ovirt, postfix and sendmail

It's not about postfix being inferior or superior to other solutions. It's that it didn't ask any thing, didn't check if one was already installed. It's just installed. For example: rpm -q --provides postfix MTA config(postfix) = 2:2.10.1-6.el7 postfix = 2:2.10.1-6.el7 postfix(x86-64) = 2:2.10.1-6.el7 server(smtp) smtpd smtpdaemon rpm -q --provides sendmail MTA config(sendmail) = 8.14.7-5.el7 sendmail = 8.14.7-5.el7 sendmail(x86-64) = 8.14.7-5.el7 server(smtp) smtpdaemon There is a lot of other dependencies to declare other than postfix, MTA would have been better.

Ovirt Networking Setup Questions

Hello, I am trying to understand, by reading all available docs, how to correctly set up networking. What I have: 6 nodes, 1 engine - all have 3 nics. What I want: To separate traffic into three zones - ovirtmgmt, prod (for vm and admin web interface, data (for db access). So, I have three subnets - 10.10.10.0, 10.10.20.0, and 10.10.30.0 - with matching VLANs 10, 20, 30 I am trying to understand how bonding and bridging work. Should I bond all three nics together? The instructions here: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/networking/bonding-vlan-bridge/ <https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/networking/bonding-vlan-bridge/> seem to do that and then create two bridges br0 and ovirtmgmt, which they then assign ip addresses to. I can do that, but shouldn’t I be configuring all of the networking at the logical network level? So, in that case, should I just create one bond/bridge and then do all of the networking at the logical level? Sorry if this is newbie stuff. Thanks Dave

Snapshots don't seem to work with Windows VMs

I've been testing with Windows 10 1607 LTSB and created several snapshots. I can preview each one, but they all boot with the same configuration and software installed and files as the "active VM" - so I cannot see at all how to roll back changes. Is this a known issue? I believe I'm following the documentation properly, but I can't see that the snapshots are doing anything. I'm testing on Scientific Linux 7.4 using oVirt 4.2.2.6-1.el7.centos.

oVirt LLDP Labeler

Hello, I would like to announce that oVirt LLDP Labeler is officially available. The Labeler is service that runs along with engine and is capable of labeling host network interfaces according to their reported VLANs via LLDP. The attached labels are named "lldp_vlan_${VLAN}", where ${VLAN} is ID of the corresponding VLAN. This can make work of an administrator easier, because any network with the same label, will be automatically attached to the corresponding host interface. The Labeler is currently tested only with Juniper switches which are capable of reporting all of their VLANs that are present on the interface. We would like to extend the Labeler with auto bonding feature. Those interfaces that are detected on the same switch would be automatically bonded. GlusterFS 4.1

All, Now that GlusterFS 4.1 LTS has been released, and is the "default" version of GlusterFS in CentOS (you get this from "centos-release-gluster" now), what's the status with regards to oVirt?
