losing ib0 connection after activating host

Hi I keep losing ib0 connection on hypervisor after adding host to engine. This makes the host not really work since NFS will be mounted over ib0. I don't really understand why this occurs. HostedEngine cannot migrate to added hosts

Anyone have any luck with Bacchus?

I am trying to get Bacchus installed: https://github.com/openbacchus/bacchus It seems he has upgraded to installing via an ansible playbook. I can get this to run all the way through, hopefully NGINX either ends up responding with a "Gateway error" or it will give me the default nginx landing page. I have tried with a RHEL7 and CentOS7 VM, as well as in a CentOS\systemd docker container, all of which having about the same amount of luck. I was just curious if anyone else has gotten this to work recently.

Re: Can't start the VM ... There are no hosts to use. Check that the cluster contains at least one host in Up state.

SSSD on Hosted Engine

Hi I am trying to configure sssd on my hosted engine. Essentially we control host access in LDAP so I want sssd to read that thus allow my coworkers to login to hosted engine vm. For some reason sssd reports backend offline even though it's resolvable, pingable, with ports open. I see that it's a SELinux issue which I can resolve. After changing to permissive SSSD works. To have system read sssd database I set hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf to: hosts files sss Though it seems that I did something bad to /etc/nsswitch.conf as now yum, ping, etc does not work. Could someone suggest how to restore this file or could anyone share theirs? Re: live migration of hosted engine between two hosts

Thanks! I am downgrading to an older kernel to see if kdump will work. My other hypervisor works fine with 3.10.0-862.9.1.el7 but this host has a newer one. Sorry for disorganized nature of this thread. Can you tell me how to get ib0 set as migration network? Hi Peter, Would you mind reporting a bug on this issue you saw? To me, it looks like sync/timing issue between snapshot state('OK) and disk state('Locked'). Can you also please check if the disk that is reported as locked is indeed locked at the time the error is reported? Please add this info to the bug and all relevant scripts. As a workaround, please consider adding an additional wait for all the VM disks to also reach 'OK' state. Hello I'm stuck since 3 days trying to find out why I can't start a VM. I tried to start with the GUI (ovirt-manager) and ovirt-shell action vm 5a61762e-ff97-47b6-891b-2a05d38ebc45 start ================================================================================== status: 400 reason: Bad Request detail: There are no hosts to use. Check that the cluster contains at least one host in Up state. ================================================================================= list hosts; id : f76a3135-8a3b-4c5b-b7bd-4c539e93d944 name : ovirt01.xxx.yy id : 1f545c5a-06a7-497c-914a-29e81b1b80d7 name : ovirt02.xxx.yy Theses 2 hosts are running other VMs without any problem. I tried to export the VM and re-import it but the problem still present. I'm thinking of something like a lease for HA that went bad somewhere and that's maybe why the VM don't want to start but I can't find out. I went to postgresql (engine DB) to find out some clues but nothing yet. Is there someone that can send me some clues or better a solution for this issue Hosted engine is Version 4.2.4.5-1.el7 Hosts are running :ovirt-host-4.2.3-1.el7.x86_64 Storage use ISCSI with a Storinator from 45Drives (Freenas 11) Thanks

live migration of hosted engine between two hosts

Hi I am trying to live migrate my hosted engine between two hosts. Both hosts are now up. The hosted engine exists on shared NFS storage mounted on both hypervisors. Though when I tried to migrate the VM I am told that's not possible. Could this be since I never defined migration network? If so I tried doing that in the oVirt UI as described https://ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Logical_Networks/ though many of these options have changed. Hi Do we need to add the ovirt repo on new potential host? If I don't do that manually then adding host, via oVirt UI, fails. vdsm hook

Hi all, I want to write a hook in which name or id of the vm can be acquired and the hook should be executed before the vm shutdown. I could acquire name or id of the vm in a before_vm_start hook using "hooking.read_domxml()". However, it did not work in a before_vm_destroy hook. So what should I do? how to reset engine-config parameter?

Hello, I tried to setup UserDefinedVMProperties to disable macspoofing for a vm that has to work as hypervisor. Then I remembered suggestion of Simone about creating vnic profile as an alternate method and set there the filter. I think I have done something wrong because if I create now a new vm and try to power on it I get VM test is down with error. Exit message: Hook Error: ('',). Perhaps I failed the syntax to reset the value of UserDefinedVMProperties ? hosted engine not reachable

Hi I keep getting this error after running sudo hosted-engine --deploy --noansible [ INFO ] Engine is still not reachable, waiting... [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Closing up': Engine is still not reachable I do see a VM running 10:20 2:51 /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm -name guest=HostedEngine,debug-threads=on Though sudo hosted-engine --vm-status [Errno 2] No such file or directory Cannot connect to the HA daemon, please check the logs An error occured while retrieving vm status, please make sure the HA daemon is ready and reachable. Unable to connect the HA Broker Can someone please help? Each time this failed I ran "/usr/sbin/ovirt-hosted-engine-cleanup" then tried deployment again. Hosted Engine setup issues

If I try to setup hosted engine with the option to use Ansible it eventually fails on me. See https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/LPK7OGFALSQF... However if I run hosted-engine --deploy --noansible the setup does complete. There is further trouble though, it seems the networks are not being configured properly. If I browse to Compute>Hosts>Hostname and click on the Setup Host Networks button I am presented with a new window that contains an unassigned logical network of "oivrtmgmt" On the left side pane there are two columns for Interfaces and Assigned Logical Networks. Both of those columns are completely empty. I think if I understand correctly the interfaces column should at least have some info in it. [cid:bb1f29b4-888c-410a-9b47-7589f866539a] So my best guess is that for some unknown reason (at least to me) the Engine doesn't '"know how to get setup properly" either with or without Ansible. That's about as well as I can describe it. I hope it makes sense.... Anyone have ideas on what is going wrong here? Thanksfor any troubleshooting advice you can provide!

IPTables firewall to firewalld

Hello, I get the following messages. "Cluster Default uses IPTables firewall, which has been deprecated in 4.2 of the engine, and will no longer be supported starting with version 4.3. Make sure to switch to Firewalld before upgrading to 4.3." If the correct way to change to firewalld edit cluster, and run reinstall? Thanks, Paul S.

Failed to run check-update of host

I have a fairly recent three node HCI setup running 4.2.5. I've recently updated hosted engine to the latest version (including yum updates). When I check for host updates through the engine gui I get the following error for all three of my hosts: Failed to check for available updates on host XXXXX with message 'Failed to run check-update of host 'XXXXXX'.'. after upgrade from 4.2.3 to 4.2.5, problems with consoles + cockpit

Hi.. After an upgrade from 4.2.3 to 4.2.5 last week, I notice that I have a console + cockpit problem. Immediately following the upgrade, everything seemed to be working fine. However, today, a couple of days after the upgrade, when I try to view any CentOS VM console, virt-viewer starts, and I see "Connected to graphic server", but there's no console output. This happens on all Linux VMs, though on my two windows VMs, the console still works. If I restart a Linux VM, I get the console back again, but what made me lose access to all the consoles? In addition, if I right click on one of my 4 hosts, and choose "Host Console", it connects to cockpit which reports: "No VM is running or defined on this host" even though there are plenty. I brought one host into maintenance mode, and rebooted it. I then started a few VMs there, and cockpit still doesn't show anything running. All of the hosts have all available ovirt updates, and are running the latest CentOS 7 kernel + O/S updates. Any ideas? There is no issue with firewall. Jason.

Hosted Engine Setup Issues on Ovirt Node 4.2.5.1

If I try to setup hosted engine with the option to use Ansible it eventually fails on me. See https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/LPK7OGFALSQF... However if I run hosted-engine --deploy --noansible the setup does complete. There is further trouble though, it seems the networks are not being configured properly. If I browse to Compute>Hosts>Hostname and click on the Setup Host Networks button I am presented with a new window that contains an unassigned logical network of "oivrtmgmt" On the left side pane there are two columns for Interfaces and Assigned Logical Networks. Both of those columns are completely empty. I think if I understand correctly the interfaces column should at least have some info in it. [cid:2a4d1038-bdf0-4d1e-be64-e8a23c1c88d9] So my best guess is that for some unknown reason (at least to me) the Engine doesn't '"know how to get setup properly" either with or without Ansible. That's about as well as I can describe it. I hope it makes sense.... Anyone have ideas on what is going wrong here? Thanksfor any troubleshooting advice you can provide!

Poor performance of oVirt Export Domain

Hello I deployed a dedicated server (fs05.holding.com) on CentOS 7.5 and created a VDO volume on it. The local write test in the VDO volume on this server gives us an acceptable result # dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/vdo-vd1/nfs/testfile count=1000000 1000000+0 records in 1000000+0 records out 512000000 bytes (512 MB) copied, 6.26545 s, 81.7 MB/s The disk capacity of the VDO volume is connected to the oVirt 4.2.5 cluster as the Export Domain via NFS. I'm seeing a problem with the low performance of Export Domain. Snapshots of virtual machines are copied very slowly to the Export Domain, approximately 6-8 MB/s. At the same time, if I try to run a write test in an mounted NFS-directory on any of the oVit cluster hosts, I get about 50-70 MB/s. # dd if=/dev/zero of=/rhev/data-center/mnt/fs05.holding.com:_mnt_vdo-vd1_nfs_ovirt-vm-backup/testfile count=10000000 10000000+0 records in 10000000+0 records out 5120000000 bytes (5.1 GB) copied, 69.5506 s, 73.6 MB/s Help me understand the reason for the slow copying to Export Domain on oVirt.

Clarifications regarding ovirt-provider-ovn network

Hi, I had some questions a overt-provider-ovn based external network which is built on top of an physical network. I notice that VLAN tagging gets greyed out when I try to create an external provider network. Is it not supported by overt right now?I am on version 4.2.5.3. Also, if I create NICs with the external provider network built atop a physical network on VMs that are on different hosts, but the same cluster, I see they are unable to ping each other, though it seems to work fine if they are on the same host. Is that elected behaviour? Could you you please help me understand why? Thanks, Anurag

Issue with NFS and Storage domain setup

Hi Ovirt, I successfully installed both ovirt-engine(ENGINE01) and ovirt node(NODE01) on a separate machines. I also created a FreeNAS(NAS01) with NFS share and already connected to my NODE01, all of these server though I haven't setup a DNS server, was manually added hostname on every machines and I can lookup and ping on them without a problem, I was able to add the NODE01 to my ENGINE01 as well. My issue was when I tried creating a storage domain on my ENGINE01, I did the below steps before running the engine-setup while also following the guide on the ovirt url: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/troubleshooting/troubleshootin... #touch /etc/exports #systemctl start rpcbind nfs-server #systemctl enable rpcbind nfs-server #engine-setup #mkdir /var/lib/exports/data #chown vdsm:kvm /var/lib/exports/data I added the 2 just in case but I have tried each alone but all fails #vi /etc/exports /var/lib/exports/data *(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,all_squash,anonuid=36,anongid=36) /var/lib/exports/data 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0(rw) #systemctl restart rpc-statd nfs-server Once I started to add my storage domain I get the below error Attached is the engine log for your reference. Snapshots - Preview button greyed out

Hi, For mitigation of the recently announced L1TF vulnerability, is it sufficient to update the compute nodes to the updated kernel? Are any other updates to KVM / vdsm / ovirt-engine required? Also, for the concurrent variant. Should we disable hyperthreading altogether? Is there any remediation (even if expensive from a performance view), that can be enabled? Do I need to set VM vnic profile for GlusterFS network?

I followed this guide to get my three node HCI cluster up and running: https://www.ovirt.org/blog/2018/02/up-and-running-with-ovirt-4-2-and-glus... The docs were a bit out of date but most things matched up. I have configured an internal GlusterFS network on a separate subnet on 10Gbe switch and have set it as the glusterFS and migration network. Is this all that is needed to be done for all glusterFS traffic to pass through that network or must the glusterFS vnic profile also be selected for each VM? I'm not sure if my VMs should be using ovirtmgmnt vnic or GlusterFS vnic.

storage domain sync problem and fail to run vm after change LUN mapping

Environment: Ovirt version: 4.2.5 Centos 7.5 During a planned maintenance window, multipath configuration was changed according to the storage vendor guidelines. The new configuration modify user_friendly_names from no to yes, so the multipath -ll output changed from this "360060160a6213400fa2d31acbbfce511 dm-8 DGC" to this: "mpathh (360060160a6213400fa2d31acbbfce511) dm-8 DGC". After this change, the following errors are displayed: 1) when attempting to start a VM with direct LUN: Failed to run VM <VMNAME> on Host <HYPERVISOR> VM <VMNAME> is down. Exit message: Bad volume specification <LUN_ID> Inspecting the VM disk, the lun id remains the previous one (360060160a6213400fa2d31acbbfce511) insted of the new one (mpathh) Remove/detach and re-add/re-attach the disk to VM doesen't help. 2) randomly: Storage domains with IDs [<ID>] could not be synchronized. To synchronize them, please move them to maintenance and then activate. Moving it to maintenance and then activate it doesen't help. Inspecting storage domain luns, almost all change the lun id to the new ones (mpathXX), but this one remain in "the old style" (maybe because lun_id is a primary key and this one was already taken?) Timezone error when trying to import VMWare created .ova

I get: Cannot import VM. Invalid time zone for given OS type. Attribute: vm.vmStatic I found an old thread here: https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-January/019363.html But it states the issue was resolved in 3.3.1. Running oVirt 4.2.5.1 The VM has the proper time zone set and the clock synced with a time server. Hardware compatibility of the VM has been upgraded to VM Version 9 as recommended on the oVirt IRC channel. I appreciate any help! Thanks, Jason

"ISCSI multipathing" tab isn't appear in datacenter settings

Hello. We have 6 servers in our cluster, which use 2 storage through iSCSI connections. Each storage has 2 nodes. Each node has 2 IP addresses in two different VLANs. Each host has 2 networks in this VLANs, so, the iSCSI traffic is separated from other types of traffic. I want to turn on iSCSI multipathing beetween hosts and storage, but "ISCSI multipathing" tab isn't appear in datacenter settings. But when I'm add a additional storage domain, "ISCSI multipathing" tab is displaying. If I want to detach this additional storage domain, "ISCSI multipathing" tab is disappear at once. Why is this happening?

upgrading 4.0.1 to latest 4.2

Hello - I am kicking around different ideas of how I could achieve this I have been bitten, hard, with in place upgrades before so I am not really wanting to do this unless its a complete last resort...and even then I'm iffy Really, the only configuration I have is 1 VDSM hook and about 20 networks. The physical hardware is not going anywhere. Out of my three nodes, I can push all VM's to the other 2 nodes and do a fresh build on 1 node I am hoping there may be a way for me to do a fresh install of 4.2, export engine config from 4.0.1, and then import it in some way - is this possible? Quick google doesnt yield much and searches for 'export' usually result in storage related results

I have multiple data volumes and when I import a VM from an NFS attached export domain the disk always gets created on on specific volume. I understand I can move the disk from one volume to another after the fact but is there a way I can specify which volume to use for the initial import?

Network requirements for ovirtmgmt

Hi, we currently have a big layer 2 network in our datacenters, so every node in a cluster can reach the other nodes in the datacenter on network layer 2. In the future we'd like to route directly on the switches and connect the nodes in one cluster, as well es other clusters in one datacenter via network layer 3. The question now is, do we need multicast and/or broadcast for any operation, or is the connectivity with layer 3 fine? Thanks Marcel

I have a second server doing NFS with RDMA over Infiniband with some VMs on it. When I try and transfer files to the gluster storage it is taking a while and I am seeing the message “VDSM {hostname} command GetGlusterVolumeHealInfoVDS failed: Message timeout which can be caused by communication issues” This is usually followed by “Host {hostname} is not responding. It will stay in Connecting state for a grace period of 60 seconds and after that an attempt to fence the host will be issued.” I just installed the Infiniband hardware. The switch is a Qlogic 12200-18 with QLE7340 single port Infiniband cards in each of the 3 servers. The error message varies on which of the 3 nodes it comes from. Each of the 3 servers is running the opensm service.

Passing through Quadro cards to guest

Has anyone experimented with this? I have had really good success with AMD cards, but consumer end graphics cards fail to load due to NVIDIA blocking them. I happened to have an NVIDIA Quadro P2000 lying around and I thought I would give it a shot. I really like these cards as they only require the 75W provided PCI power. I can pass the Quadro through just fine, however after a couple minutes of playing a video, the audio gets really "buzzy" and the video drops to about 3-5 FPS. This is while doing pretty minimal stuff. Currently testing with 720/1080 youtube videos. Card is pulling about 6-10W total. And otherwise working fine on my Windows 10 guest. I have also tried enabling/disabling MSI interrupts which the card supports without making a difference. I am running a single host setup: X10SDV-6c+ (Xeon D - 1528) running oVirt 4.2.3

Isolated POC

Good day to all, I am in the process of setting up an oVirt proof of concept for a client. There are some strict requirements for this POC. Firstly the entire POC must be isolated from the network, which means no online repos. Secondly there is a time constraint for the completion of the deployment. All to be done on bare-metal systems. I have installed oVirt numerous times on other systems, but then I was always able to have online repos. So in short I am asking for some pointers on which repos needs to be synced offline for this to work properly. I can always go and play around to figure out which ones are needed, but I do not have the luxury of time. Any advice or tips will be appreciated. Regards, Martin.

oVirt node 4.2.x - custom multipath.conf and external storage availability

HI all How can I provide to my oVirt hosts a custom multipath.conf, considering that we are using shared/mirrored FC storage from HPE 3PAR with high availability of provided LUNs, using peer-persistance feature ? To configure correctly this require a custom multipath.conf is required. How I can avoid it will be overwritten during upgrades ? Second topic: Is ALUA feature supported also in oVirt nodes, like for standard RHEL 6/7 and/or CentOS 6/7 ? I was digging for a while into user's digest, but not able to find focused informations. ovirt engine service needs restart after network connectivity is lost and reestablished

today our network administration did some upgrades on the networking equipment, so the engine vlan went down for a while. Afterwards when it came back up 3 hosts was found as non responding, I couldn't see anything suspicious on the hosts, the problem "fixed" itself when I restarted the ovirt-engine service on the engine vm. Another "strange" side effect is that gluster was in need of healing constantly afterwards it did heal and desynch again almost immediately, whitch was "fixed" by shutting down and starting the vm's who were up at the time of the network outage.. I've seen this behaviour once more regarding the engine service, is this normal behaviour (e.g. to make the admin check if everything is ok) or is there something wrong ?

cannot activate host

Hi, I have one interesting issue. I was asked by colleague to repair his cluster which is part of our oVirt installation. He tried to upgrade his host to gain 4.2 compatibility level but it fails in some cases. Never mind, I checked it, repaired, installed upgrades and activate his hosts with one exception. One of hosts was stucked in finishing two tasks. One was changing network configuration, the second was activating of this host. I have to manually clear this tasks in database by SELECT * FROM job ORDER BY start_time DESC; SELECT DeleteJob('...job_id...'); SELECT DeleteJob('...job_id...'); Now this tasks are gone but still cannot activate this host. Error while executing action: blade01: Cannot activate Host. Related operation is currently in progress. Please try again later. Host is updatet (latest 4.2 repo), rebooted, looks fine... In tasks in UI are no tasks found (the same in db)... What can I do now? Cheers, Jiri

Error after rebooting ovirt-engine

Invalid status on data centre after affinity enforcement rules run

I have a newly built three node HCI glusterFS cluster (deployed with cockpit) running ovirt 4.2.5 I'm noticing that a few times a day I'm seeing the following event log: Invalid status on Data Center Default. Setting status to Non Responsive. In every single case it happens about 10 seconds after the previous event log: Affinity Rules Enforcement Manager started. Is it normal to see this temporary non responsive state of the default data center? I've also noticed something a bit odd with my hostedEngine. It seems to be restarting on its own and correlates to around the time the above warnings are in the event log. My hosted engine says it has an uptime of 10 minutes right now but I haven't touched it or rebooted it in several days. The events for hostedEngine specifically don't show any logs or problems for several weeks. Question is, why is the default data center intermittently going non-responsive and why is my hostedEngine seemingly restarting itself?

Windows 10 & 2016 snapshot error

oVirt Guest Tools 4.2-1.el7.centos & QEMU guest agent v7.5 are installed. When I try & take a snapshot, I get this warning: "The VM will be paused while saving the memory Could not detect Guest Agent on the VM. Note that without a Guest Agent the data on the created snapshot may be inconsistent." What am I missing or doing wrong?

Drive letter / scsi id not consistent

Hi, Managing disks in the ovirt gui seems completely error prone since the GUI ordering does not seem to be used in any practical way. The scsi ID's are not exposed via the GUI either, so if you have 2 drives of the same size on NFS there's no way to identify which is which without resorting to dumping the xml. Is there some way to make ovirt treat this in a sane way and always expose the scsi devices in the same order as the GUI (and the "target dev" field)? Cheers! Nathan

Live Migration via NFS

Hi I haven't used oVirt in several years so wanted to ask how live migration may have changed. Can NFS facilitate live migration in cluster of two hosts each which have NFS mounted? The hosts would have local attached storage which would be the original location of VMs.

oVirt 4.2.6 + GlusterFS

Hello, I have 24 HP DL360 G7 all with 64G RAM and 1TB SAS disks. What I want to archive is to use all the nodes with ovirt (one will be for the controller + iso domain) and use GluterFS in the same nodes for the storage domain. Idk if anyone tried it before, but I want it to replace my actual "standalone" production hypervisors schema. Thanks in advance

Failed to hot-plug disk

Hello, I have a problem when i tried to hotplug a disk to a VM. Here is the situation. We use a VM (let's call this backupVM) which is responsible of doing our VM backup by : - Making a snapshot of the VM we want to backup - Attach the snapshot disk - Make the copy using DD - Unplug the snapshot disk and then delete snapshot. For some reason that i don't know, for certain VM, the backupVM cannot hot plug the snapshot disk. VirtIO in new upgraded 4.2.5 for FreeBSD is very poor (could not use)

Dear All: I just upgraded my oVIrt-4.2.4 to 4.2.5 and nightmare begin, FreeBSD VMs hangs once the VM's VirtIO harddisk is some loading (eg. extracting a big tar ball, portsnap extract, etc.), I tried to create a VMs using back the IDE do not has any problem but got slow IO performance once using VirtIO it will hang as it like. I also tried to create another VMs with VirtIO-SCSI it seems the hang problem no occur but I got the oVirt-Host loading over 40 when VM harddisk have some little job, so conclusion is if you guys will using FreeBSD as guest please do not upgrade at the moment. In fact I feel every time the new version always have problem and causing user to nightmare. BR, Paul.LKW

Indeed the Storage domains are via NFS served by Windows Server 2016. the workaround says "use NFSV3", I'm afraid this will break my existing installation. For now, all my VMs are running on one host that is still on 4.2.0. Update to 4.2.5, Cant start VMs

I updated the engine, and one of my nodes to 4.2.5. I'm attempting to re-start the VMs that were pinned to it, and migrate another VM to it so that I can update my other node. When I try to start the VMs that were pinned to the host, I get: VM Tuning3 is down with error. Exit message: XML error: Multiple 'scsi' > controllers with index '0'. To fix this I tried to detach the disk and re-attach it, no luck. When I try to migrate a running VM to this host, I get: Host Letty has network interface which exceeded the defined threshold [95%] > (bond0: transmit rate[0%], receive rate [97%]) The host I'm migrating FROM gets a similar error, and the VM does not migrate. I tried the different migration policies without any luck. I did successfully migrate the Hosted Engine to the new host, no errors. Thanks for any advice! Vincent

Would anyone have recommends for additional reads? The problem I'm tackling currently looks like this: - We have (2) oVirt Data Centers, each populated by a single Cluster. The Data Centers are physically & network-wise 'distant' from one another - hosted-engine runs on (3) of the (4) Hosts in Data Center A / Cluster A. hosted-engine does not run on Data Center B / Cluster B - When we disrupt network connectivity around Cluster A (yes, that's Cluster *A*), Hosts in Cluster B crash (requiring a power cycle) and Guests in Cluster B get stopped and paused I'm struggling to understand why mussing with Cluster A affects Cluster B. From pcaps, I can see plenty of TLS traffic from Cluster A's Hosts -- presumably from ovirt-engine running on Cluster A -- exchanged with Cluster B. So, during my last maintenance window, I put hosted-engine into maintenance mode ... but Hosts/VMs in Cluster B were still affected. Where do I go to better understand what ovirt-engine does when it is 'managing' Hosts & VMs? --sk

Datacenter of several Hosts with Local Storage ? (share Logical Network)

Hello, My question is pretty simple :) Is there a way to configure Local(s) Storage Datacenter with more than 1 host ? The goal is is to share some Datacenter simple parameters between several hosts (with Local storage) like Logical Networks ? If it is not possible what is the best way / workaound to do this ? To compare, on Xenserver, it is possible to configure a "Pool" of some hosts which have Local Storage, but which share same Logical network configuration.. MoM - Not working ? How to use it ?

Hello, I'm trying to test Memory balloon useful functionality, but l'm unable to make it work successfuly. Firstly, I enable the MOM on my Cluster: Memory Balloon Enable Memory Balloon Optimization Secondly, I configure a VM virtual machine like this: On system tab: Memory Size : 28672 MB Maximum memory : 28672 MB On Ressource allocation tab: Memory Allocation: Physical Memory Guaranteed : 2048 MB Memory Balloon Device: Enabled Thirdly, I test 1- I boot the VM. After boot VM consume 200MB 2- I lauch perl program which consume 26GB. 3- During this, Host RAM usage is near 90% 4- I stop the perl program, and on guest side, RAM usage drop down to 200Mo 5- On host side, RAM usage keep to 24 - 26GB. I wait some time to show if the qemu-vm process drop is host-ram-usage. Tuning and testing GlusterFS performance

So I've finally completed my first HCI build using the below configuration: 3x Dell PowerEdge R720 2x 2.9 GHz 8 Core E5-2690 256GB RAM 2x250gb SSD Raid 1 (boot/os) 2x2TB SSD jbod passthrough (used for gluster bricks) 1Gbe Nic for management 10Gbe nic for Gluster Using Replica 3 with no arbiter. Installed the latest version of oVirt available at the time 4.2.5. Created recommended volumes (with an additional data volume on second SSD). Not using VDO First thing I did was setup glusterFS network on 10Gbe and set it to be used for glusterFS and migration traffic. I've setup a single test VM using Centos7 minimal on the default "x-large instance" profile. Within this VM if I do very basic write test using something like: dd bs=1M count=256 if=/dev/zero of=test conv=fdatasync I'm seeing quite slow speeds, only 8mb/sec. If I do the same from one of the hosts gluster mounts i.e. host1: /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/HOST:data I get about 30mb/sec (which still seems fairly low?) Am I testing incorrectly here? Is there anything I should be tuning on the Gluster volumes to increase performance with SSDs? Where can I find out where the bottle neck is here, or is this expected performance of Gluster?

Hello, when i tried to attach a snapshot disk into my backupvm. oVirt doesn't want to attach it.
