oVirt Storage questions

From previous thread about gluster issues, things seem to be running much better than before, and it has raised a few questions that I can't seem to find any answers to: Setup: 3 hyperconverged nodes each node has 1x 1tb SSD and 1x 500gb nVME drive each node is connected via ethernet and also by a 40gb infiniband connection for the gluster replication. Questions: 1. I created a 3tb VDO drive on the SSD and a 1.3tb VDO Drive on the nVME drive with a 1Gb cache on each server and I enabled the RDMA transport. a. Did I lose anything by doing the whole process manually? Since I did it like that, things seem to run MUCH better so far, rebooting nodes the gluster resyncs almost instantly and storage seems faster also. b. Is there a way to split out the gluster traffic from the normal ovirt traffic (VM and cluster communication)? originally I had separate names for each node for the gluster network and it WAS split, but if I ever reset a gluster node, the name got changed. What I did now is just put in a hosts file on each node that sends all traffic over the infiniband, but I don't feel like that's optimal. I was unable to add in the separate gluster names in the configuration as they were not part of the existing cluster. c. Why does the hyper-connverged wizard not let you adjust the VDO cache size, the transport type, or use VDO to "over-subscribe" the drive sizes like I did manually? 2. I wanted to add more space in the near future, would it be better to create a RAID0 with the new drives, or just use them as another separate storage location?

Unable to add storage domain

1. Created a lv on a VDO device, mounted on /gluster_bricks/brick 2. Created a new gluster brick on /gluster_bricks/brick/brick 3. Unable to add them new a new storage domain or import it. get a bunch of "finished disconnecting storage..." errors and nothing happens I've lost 30+ VMs due to previous issues with gluster deployment wizard, so I created drives manually to match settings from wizard, totally screwed now.

move 'ovirtmgmt' bridge to a bonded NIC team

We've recently added additional NICs to our oVirt nodes, and want to move the ovirtmgmt interface to one of the bonded interfaces, away from the single ethernet port currently used. This is to provide redundant connectivity to the nodes. I've not had any luck finding documentation on how to do this. If we change it manually by editing files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts, VDSM simply changes everything back. I'm just looking to be pointed in the right direction here. Thanks!

VM Portal is currently having some issues

Hi, When opening the web-ui with the admin@internal user, I get the message "Sorry, VM Portal is currently having some issues". Back to the admin portal > Events, nothing has been logged. Nothing in /var/log/ovirt-engine/ui.log, server.log or engine.log either. Any suggestion?

Removing SSL 3 from port 16514

Hello, I was hoping to remove SSL 3 from 16514/tcp. I’m running Ovirt 4.2.0.2-1el7.centos and that port accepts both TSL 1.2 and SSL 3. Would editing libvirtd.conf and restarting libvirt on the hosts be the best way? I worry that it maybe overwritten the next time vdsm gets updated. #vi /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf tls_priority="NORMAL:!VERS-SSL3.0" Any help would be appreciated, Thanks John

migrating to Hosted Engine failed

Hello, *oVirt Node: 4.2.7.1* I'm trying to migrate to a hosted engine on an existing cluster. novnc in the virtual machine console

Always prompt: Can't connect to websocket proxy server wss://engine.test.com:6100. Please check that: websocket proxy service is running, firewalls are properly set, websocket proxy certificate is trusted by your browser. Default CA certificate. Hosted Engine VM and Storage not showing up

Hello, I’ve a new oVirt installation using oVirt 4.2.7.1 Node and after deploying the hosted engine it does not show up on the interface even after adding the first storage. The Datacenter is up but the engine VM and the engine storage does not appear. how to take a snapshot for hosted-engine?

hello everyone. I want to take a snapshot for hosted-engine. I am intend to do the job that might do critical damages on hosted-engine such as to seperate the database from the engine. before I do these job, it will be nice that I take a snapshot for the engine and then recover it when occuring severe problems. However, I tried to take a snapshot for hosted-engine in RHV-M portal and failed to take the snapshot. Is there any ways taking a snapshot for hosted-engine?

oVirt QueryType

Hello everyone! I am investigation POST requests oVirt makes during the startup while entering to the webadmin. The first is xsrf token, second is QueryType with type 231. I am a little bit confused: if I counted correctly , 231 is Search type. What it searched exactly? It is not specified in message. The answer to this query is aaa.ProfileEntry. Am I missing something? Then in the third message I see such queries as GetAllVmIcons, GetBookmark which seems rather strange ( because no vms are shown on the dashboard). Or I am counting enum values incorrectly?

IoT Big Data design on AWS

I'm trying to design a big IoT solution of millions of devices starting from zero. That's why I need a highly scalable platform like AWS. My devices are going to report data using AWS IoT, and that's the only thing I've really decided. I need to store a lot of data like a temperature measure every 15 minutes on each device so for that measures I've planned to insert those measures directly to DynamoDB using IoT Rules, but on the other side, I need a relational structure to store companies, temperature sensors, etc. So I thought I could store that in MySQL RDS. After that, I need to configure a proper analysis tool, so I was thinking of Kinesis and load the data from Redshift after ETL using Data Pipeline since AWS https://goo.gl/n2qNUi Glue doesn't support DynamoDB. I'm new with some of the services so I don't know exactly what I'm doing and I don't know if this approach is the best one. What do you think?.

Ovirt Engine UI bug- cannot attache networks to hosts

Hi Everyone, Using self hosted-engine 4.2.7.5-1.el7 running on ovirt-node 4.2.7, i am trying to attache hosts to a newlly created network for gluster/migration traffic. Oncei click on Networks->gluster-Hosts- Unattached, i get the following error: Uncaught exception occurred. Please try reloading the page. Details: (TypeError) : M9(...) is null Please have your administrator check the UI logs So to make the cluster installation possible, i had to use ovirt 4.2.2 and manually install ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20180626.1.el7 on the nodes before deploying self-hosted engine ( version that has other problems, like not being able to get dasboards in cloudforms/manageiq - ovirt-engine-dwh is missing ). Is it possible to: 1. upgrade actual hosted-engine version to the latest that has this module properly installed ? 2. fix the latest ( upgraded ) version so i can attach hosts to networks ? Which option is best for storage?

Hi, Which is the preferred option for connecting oVirt VM farm to SAN/NAS? NFS (10G), iSCSI (10G) or FC (8G)? We are confused, some people say iSCSI is preferred and others say NFS performs the better than iSCSI, but FC is most expensive but performs the best overall.... Would value expert opinion. Unable to increase memory or CPU on hosted Engine version 4.2.5.2

Hi, I'm using version 4.2.5.2 and every article I found, I read that with oVirt 4.2, it should be possible to update CPU and memory for hosted Engine in UI. Now, when I'm trying to do this, even being on global maintenance, I always get the same error: Error while executing action: HostedEngine: There was an attempt to change Hosted Engine VM values that are locked. My problem is, that I need to increase the memory, because we had now several times in the last 2 or 3 months an out of memory kill of the java process. What is the best way to increase memory here? Should I do it over the config file? But how is then the OVF updated? BR Florian

Replacing Export Domain by Data Domain

Hello all, because using an export domain is deprecated i deleted my export domain and use now a data domain instead. I used the export domain for complete image backups of my production virtual machines. By using now a data domain its even more comfortable because i can clone a snapshot directly on my backup data domain. But there is a (small?) inconvenience: I cannot "unregister" the cloned snapshot and i dont want to see them all the time in the "Virtual Machines" list. For the moment i use a bookmark in the "Vms:" filter. After detaching the domain the VMs are away, reattaching brings them back for possible "Import VM". Is there a possibility to set the cloned VM directly to this "unregistered" state without detaching and reattaching the complete domain? Best regards, Robert

I have a Fiber Channel domain, it works, there are some VMs in the VM import tab of the domain that I want to remove, I cannot import them, because they technically already exsist with a duplicate VMID. Is there a way to do this? Alternatively if I cannot delete the data related the the imports, I want to remove the disks attached to these un-imported VM's to free up space on my Fiber Channel, is there a way to reliably identify which LVM id's belong to those un-imported VMs? oVirt Node 4.2.5.1 vm stuck on "Powering Down"

Hello, vm stuck (on two hosts) I have MySQL VM guest that was stuck in a way that "kill -9" to the MySQL server pid did nothing. from the shell I execute "init 0", this did not shut down the VM. from the ovirt-engine I'm trying to power off the machine, and it is not doing anything. the event shows: > VDSM kvm5 command DestroyVDS failed: Virtual machine destroy error > and: > Failed to power off VM mysql-production (Host: kvm5, User: > admin@internal-authz). > Note, when I list the VM s on the hosts view, I see that that same VM is on two hosts (kvm7 and kvm5). It looks like the VM is stuck on two hosts, in the status "Powering Down" any ideas? Thank you

GlusterFS Storage - Size limited at 2 GB

Hello everyone, I've installed oVirt on 8 nodes of a MacroServer (SuperMicro Microcloud): 7 Nodes with oVirt Node installed and 1 Node with Centos 7 and oVirt installed. The last one works like hypervisor and node. I would use all the storage of all nodes like a Gluster storage, so I've created a new DataCenter, with a Cluster with all nodes inside. Then I've created the volume Gluster (by GUI): Replicated Duplicated version and 4 replicas on all 8 nodes. Than "Optimize for oVirt Storage". For last I've created Domain storage based on volume created before. All works fine but the total storage that is available from Domain is 1.9 GB. I've tried already to force it using these commands: gluster volume GlusterVol limit-usage / 3200GB gluster volume quota GlusterVol limit-usage /data 3200GB At first it seems work but finally when I was installing a VM, I get Full Storage. It seems that it could use only the storage of the node where is instantiated the volume. I would see all the storage distributed and I wish I could use the storage from all nodes. Someone could help me?

Zoning was performed on each SAN switch and when creating a Virtual Disk with 3 LUN, but adding the Storage in OVIRT does not see any LUN. The OVIRT nodes were restarted, the Engine but still does not see the LUNs I have searched for information on how to resolve this issue but I have not had any information. Running different minor versions in different clusters?

Hi, I want to ask, if this is a supported Environment, when I have for example the latest 4.2 version running on engine and all hosts in a cluster have an earlier release of 4.2 running? Example: - ovirt engine: 4.2.7 - hosts in cluster A: 4.2.5 - hosts in cluster B: 4.2.7 The engine VM would run in cluster A with the older version. I ask, because we have a very huge ovirt setup, split into different clusters. In one cluster, I would like to have always the latest version and in the others, the upgrade will be done in bigger time-intervals. LG Florian Schmid
