Hello I can see some examples of what I am trying to understand, but I'm still not quite clear, perhaps someone can help? I am trying to lookup a list of network names to pass to the ovirt_host_network, networks parameter. I have the networks in my hosts file like: # Logical networks net: hosts: v1234-test-vlan: net_vlan: 1234 net_vms: true v1235-another-test-vlan: net_vlan: 1235 net_vms: true And now I would like to loop through those entries to pass as a list to the "networks:" parameter of overt_host_networks. VM stuck in reboot

Hi All, I am running on 4.4.4.7-1.el8 I messed up. I was doing some weekend maintenance on VMs and some VMs needed to be stopped and some rebooted and I stopped one, thought I clicked on the next one and clicked shutdown. But... I clicked reboot and shutdown on the same VM, now it is stuck. The Overview in the engine shows the VM "Reboot In Progress" and it has for two weeks at this point, it was a fresh VM so I just created a new one until I had this figured out, but here I am. Cockpit and Gluster

Hello, I have a hardware RAID 10 array and want to use Cockpit to deploy a hosted engine with replica 3 Gluster. Should I pick the JBOD option for this ? Will my disk alignments be correct for my PVs, VGs, LVs and xfs formatting? I don't see RAID 10. I see where it was removed in 4.2.8 -- I think. Thank You All For Your Help !

For storage I have TrueNAS dedicated machine for NFS. hosts are all identical Lenovo thinkcentre m92 with (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3470T CPU @ 2.90GHz and 16 GB of RAM). everything is connected with a physical managed switch over 1Gbps each. everything is setup without any additional configuration. There is only a single vm (hosted engine). but hosts are constant errors and warnings being presented and I am lost even from where to start looking. export a VM to export domain in 4.4.4

Hello, in 4.4.4 I see that I can import from export domain, but if I select "export VM" I can only export to a storage domain.... is this by design? What if I want to export from 4.4.4 and import into an older oVirt version? Thanks, Gianluca

hi ovirt 444 lxd, openvz in kvm have issues connecting to public network i can't to allow access to physical interface. In general i cannot seem to get containers direct access to the network e.g. in order to pull a dhcp address from my public network. I have tried macvlan, bridge mode, openvswitch as well. there are no connection issues on the baremetal server, but this issue exists on the kvm vm how to fix it?

Hi Matthew, this is a known issue for 4.3.6 release (OLVM or oVirt). You should check if your KVM cluster has VNC Encryption enabled; if this is the case you should: * disable VNC console for your Cluster (by OLVM/oVirt) * Comment out line "vnc_tls=1" in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf on the KVM host. * Go to OLVM Web Console, Compute -> Hosts -> select <KVM host> -> Management -> Maintenance, then Installation -> Reinstall, to apply above change. * After above step reinstall KVM host, launch novnc VM console works fine. Using VNC console on new cluster

I'm running OLVM 4.3.6 (Consider it oVIrt 4.3.6). When I created my second cluster, I could not access the hosts on the second cluster using VNC (haven't tried to get html5 working). Since I was forced to power off everything, (power outage), I've had no issue with accessing the console on any host in the second cluster. I have just created a third cluster. Same problem. No issues with hosts on the first two clusters, but any host I've migrated to the third cluster, I cannot access the console. When I select a host, click on the button for 'Console' I get a download on my browser, I tell the browser to open the download, and I get, what I think is the Spice application starting and quitting in a second or two. I'm not looking forward to telling my management that we need another power outage.

Hi to all, during Windows 10 virtual machine utilization on the Portal VM, managed by oVirt as a standalone Manager with local databases and connected by HTML5 VNC console is totally impossible to use alt-gr. The keyboard layout is IT and I can't use for example the @ character. Hi guys, I'm trying oVirt in a KVM and I get this: ... [ INFO ] The host has been set in non_operational status, deployment errors: code 505: Host c8ovirt1.private.road installation failed. Failed to configure management network on the host., code 519: Host c8ovirt1.private.road does not comply with the cluster road networks, the following networks are missing on host: 'ovirtmgmt', code 1120: Failed to configure management network on host c8ovirt1.private.road due to setup networks failure., code 9000: Failed to verify Power Management configuration for Host c8ovirt1.private.road., code 10802: VDSM c8ovirt1.private.road command HostSetupNetworksVDS failed: Internal JSON-RPC error: {'reason': 'Failed to find interface to with route table ID 254 to store route rules'}, ... How much of a worry is it and how to fix such KVM vm so oVirt would be happy? many thanks, L.

Tried it again, it just breaks the boot. After a lot of firefighting found that elrepo kernel-lt doesn't have `xfs` in initramfs image and it fails mounting the lvm which uses xfs # lsinitrd /boot/initramfs-4.18.0-240.1.1.el8_3.x86_64.img | grep xfs.ko -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 442760 Aug 11 2020 usr/lib/modules/4.18.0-240.1.1.el8_3.x86_64/kernel/fs/xfs/xfs.ko.xz Tested kernel-ml and it has the needed xfs module After installing the new kernel, I needed to copy over the "options" line from /boot/loader/entries/ovirt*.conf to the new one. Hope this saves a lot of hair pulling for someone. I am using the rest api to create a VM, because the VM is cloned from the template and it takes a long time, I am also passing the async parameters hoping to receive back a job id, which I could then query https://xxxxx/ovirt-engine/api/vms?async=true&clone=true however I get the new VM record which is fine but then I have no way of knowing the job id I should query to know when it is finished. Robert, I understand the sentiment of the difficulty here. The recovery feels brutal but the monolithic nature and the dense ecosystem is understandable for the purpose it serves. I am able to mount the raw disk image for the HostedEngine VM cleanly without any errors and it seems to check out, so I don't believe there is any corruption. Everything looks to operate as expected and then it just seems to snag somewhere through the startup. I suppose I'm just trying to trace down the hiccup to clear it out of the way and let the VM boot up. My knowledge is a bit limited digging in and troubleshooting the components here. Single Node Hyperconverged - Failing Gluster Setup

Ovirt newbie here - using v 4.4.4 Have been trying for days to get this installed on my HP DL380p G6. I have 2 disk 170GB Raid 0 for OS and 6 x 330GB disk Raid 5 for Gluster. DNS all set up (that took some working out), but I just can't fathom out whats (not) happening here. Block size is returned as 512. I've had some help on Reddit where I've been told that Ovirt is seeing my single local disk ass an multipath device, which it is not/??! I think I removed the flag, but it still fails here. So, Gluster install fails quite early through, though it carries on creating all the volumes (with default settings) but then gives me the 'Deployment Failed' message :( Here is where it fails.... HostedEngine VM Paused after power failure

Hello Users, We have an oVirt (4.4) environment that had 2 hosts in the cluster. We suffered from a power failure that caused the servers to be offline for some time. Once restored, one of the hosts from the cluster lost its OS raid and is not accessible. The other server has the HostedEngine vm on it but in a paused state. I have tried to manually start the vm with the hosted-engine CLI tool but it indicates that HostedEngine is running on another host. Random Crash

Hi all, I'm experiencing random reboot on several oVirt nodes (CentOS 7/8, oVirt 4.3/4.4 as well). Sometimes it happens three times in a day, and the more hosts I'm adding to my pool, the more I noticing. The logs are not helpful: it's like a brute poweroff cause there are no entries at all in the messages, vdsm, secure (I looked all over the logs) from the last "normal" entry (user logged in/off, normal vdsm log ecc.) until the first entry of the boot. kdump is enabled and /var/crash is empty. I used to run Xen on the servers of the same provider and I didn't have all of these frequent reboots, that's why I'm not sure it is a hardware related issue. Any advice on what enables for getting more info about this crash? Thank you for your time, Francesco

I use cockpit to deploy hosted engine and I get this error/warning message: "The he_fqdn proposed for the engine VM resolves on this host" I should mention that if I remove the IP to which FQDN resolves off that iface(plain eth no vlans) then I get this: [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "The selected network interface is not valid"} All these errors seem bit too cryptic to me. Hi all, I have just upgraded one of my oVirt nodes from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4. After the reboot, the 4.4.4 image is correctly loaded but vdsmd is not starting due to this error: vdsmd.service: Job vdsmd.service/start failed with result 'dependency'. Looks like it has a dependency on mom-vdsm, and this as well has a dependency issue: mom-vdsm.service: Job mom-vdsm.service/start failed with result 'dependency'. After some investigation looks like mom-vdsm has a dependency on ovsdb-server, and this is the unit creating the problem: ovs-delete-transient-ports.service: Starting requested but asserts failed. ovirt AD issue

A while back, I had reconfigured my oVirt engine to auth based on my Samba AD server, and everything was working perfectly fine. oVirt version 4.3.10.4-1. Today, I tried to login with my account into engine and I see: server_error: The connection reader was unable to successfully complete TLS negotiation: SSLHandshakeException(sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: No trusted certificate found), ldapSDKVersion=4.0.7, revision=b28fb50058dfe2864171df2448ad2ad2b4c2ad58 I recently added a secondary domain controller with Samba, and I realize now that there is an error. Since I didn't pre-initialize samba with a TLS certificate, it generated a new CA, and certificate and key for the second server. Since I'm not using the same CA as the first server, ovirt engine (which only has the CA of the first server) won't be able to talk to the second server... no problem.... I will fix that eventually. However, when I re-ran "ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup", and followed the exact steps I did before, ovirt is connecting to the first server, failing with the above error, then connecting to the second server, and the same error. The CA hasn't changed for the first server, nor has the certificate/key. I verified that the CA certificate that I am giving ovirt is matching with the exact CA certificate of the first server. How can I debug further? Jason.

Recovery from power outage

Hi! We had a power outage and all our servers (oVirt hosts) went down. When they started up neither the hosted-engine nor VMs were started. hosted-engine --vm-status says: You must run deploy first I tried running deploy with various options but ultimately get stuck at: The Host ID is already known. Is this a re-deployment on an additional host that was previously set up (Yes, No)[Yes]? ... [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Closing up': <urlopen error [Errno 113] No route to host> OR The specified storage location already contains a data domain. Is this an additional host setup (Yes, No)[Yes]? No [ ERROR ] Re-deploying the engine VM over a previously (partially) deployed system is not supported. Please clean up the storage device or select a different one and retry. NOTES: 1. This is oVirt v3.6 (legacy install, I know...) 2. We do have daily engine backups (.bak files) [till the day the power failed] Any advice/assistance appreciated. Thanks! Roderick

Changes between Node NG 4.4.3 and 4.4.4

Hi, I have a node 4.4.3 install and it works perfectly for PCI passthrough. After I upgraded to Node NG 4.4.4 the PCI passthrough leads to server resets. There are no logs in the kernel messages just before reset apart from vfio-pci enabling the device. So, I assume there is some change related to the kernel or vfio-pci driver in the newer 4.4.4 version. How / Where can I see the differences between Node NG releases? Thanks, Shantur

Single Node 4.3 to 4.4 help

I have read through many posts and I think this process seems fairly simple. https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/upgrade_guide/#SHE_Upgrading_from_4-3 But I just wanted to see if anyone had any gotchas. I am thinking of either using - RHEL8 (Using developer program, probably best best atm) - Ovirt Node (Is ovirt node being deprecated since it is based on centos?) - Rocky Linux/AlmaLinux/Clear Linux From my understanding I should: - Enter global maintenance - Make a full engine backup - Reinstall to a supported OS - Deploy ovirt engine using backup. Looking forward to trying out Ovirt 4.4!

Storage domain problems. oVirt 4.4.4.

Hi, all. I deployed a new oVirt 4.4.4 installation and imported FC storage domains. However, two storage domains turned out to be empty - they did not have virtual machines in the "VM import" tab, the virtual disks appeared in the "disk import" tab with empty aliases. I downloaded and viewed the OVF_STORE - the old information was partially overwritten by the new one with an empty number of VMs. Trying to restore the VM configuration information, I deployed a backup of the old hosted engine. Version is also 4.4.4. Thus, it was possible to restore OVF_STORE of the first problematic disk domain. But the second storage domain gave an error when updating OVF_STORE. The same error occurs when trying to export a VM or copy a virtual disk to another known good storage domain. At the same time, I successfully download disks from the second storage domain to my PC by clicking the Download button and saving *.raw. But snapshots cannot be saved like this. 1. How can I overwrite OVF_STORE on the second storage domain? If for this I need to restore the oVirt metadata on the storage domain, how can I do it correctly? 2. Mellanox SR-IOV

Hi. I have a Mellanox card with two ports and I enabled SR-IOV, however in Engine it shows only 1 of the ports with SR-IOV enabled. I shared it on the host through the CLI and shared it right but the VMs do not travel and the Engine shows that only one of the ports is divided. When I try to divide by the Engine, it shows the error of the attached print. Is this information correct or am I doing something wrong? Users cannot create disks in portal

Help, banging my head against a wall. Ovirt Engine Software Version:4.4.4.7-1.el8 RHEL 8.3 I have set up my cluster going to a TrueNAS storage. Everything is going great and works well from Admin or any user with SuperUser. I would like to set it up so that students can create their own machines. Great, plowing through the documentation it looks like after creating a user, it works well by giving them at the Data Center object the user roles of: PowerUserRole VmCreator At that level, according to my reading of the documentation, it is also supposed to grant DiskCreator automatically. Well, when I do that it creates the VM but the creation of the disk does not work. Looking in the log I find: Validation of action 'AddImageFromScratch' failed for user will@internal-authz. Reasons: VAR__TYPE__STORAGE__DOMAIN,NON_ADMIN_USER_NOT_AUTHORIZED_TO_PERFORM_ACTION_ON_HE Could anyone please let me know what this is referring to? I have tried many roll combinations, and have even made my own user roll with full privileges to no avail. I looked for issues and the closest I could find is: Bug 1511697 - [RFE] Unable to set permission on all but Hosted-Engine VM and Storage Domain Which showed as resolved in 4.3 Could someone be kind enough to maybe tell me where I am missing it? Achieving high availability

Hi, I am trying to configure high availability on a critical VM. My ovirt version is 4.3.10.4-1.el7. My question is about the best settings to specify, since it's not completely clear to me how they influence the availability. What I want is simply to have a specific machine ALWAYS running, or at least, to be available as much as possible. I have no special requirements on the VM, if it goes down, simply restarting it is fine. Here is my current setting. Is it good or I'd better chage anything? Greetings all :) I'm wondering if oVirt supports the feature that VMware does, which is in VMware land is called SDRS [1]. The idea is simple and I'm sure you all aware of it. You have a "cluster" of storage domains, the engine monitors the backend storage domains and auto balances the VMs across the storage domains based on IO latency and disk usage. But I don't know which environment types I should use to deploy. The number two question is why the system environment is different between each version of o-virt？Because centos 7 is the major version. multipath and VDSM REVISION value mappings

Hello, considering that the best practice is to keep the multipath.conf file unmodified, is there a table with the mapping between the version of oVirt/RHV and the value of "VDSM REVISION" in /etc/multipath.conf, so that in case of doubts one can crosscheck (eg inherited environment where different admins were managing...)? Does this value depend only on the hypervisor installed sw version or also on the Cluster Compatibility version of the cluster the host belongs to, or on the engine version? In several oVirt/RHV environments with 4.3 / 4.4 I see several numbers for the VDSM REVISION from 2.0, to 1.9 and 1.5... Also what could be the impact of having a wrong (higher or lower) revision inside the file? Thanks, Gianluca

Hi, I am laying the groupwork for upgrade ovirt to 4.4. Since the standalone ovirt mgr is now running on RHEL 7, I have installed RHEL 8 to a new VM. Unfortunately, after installing ovirt-release43, I am not able to find documentation for the dnf modules required. All the current documentation point to ovirt-release44 and dnf modules not available for ovirt 4.3/RHEL 8. I have these repos enabled...
