Dear all, on latest 4.5, as many others have noticed, default is to use video type VGA and VNC as graphics protocol. Problem is, in my current environments, I can't seem to make this to work. When the machine power ups I get the "usual" error from virt-viewer: I found some docs on the web, like this from redhat: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/5695951 but it does not seem to work. Indeed I reinstalled a host and forced the creation of the vm on it, but the console is still unreachable. Any hint how I can solve this? I am quite surprised I could not find anything on standard documentation. Failed to deploy ovirt engine with CLI

Hi community, I'm trying to deploy the engine via CLI on an ovirt 4.5.2 (CentOS 8) node over a clean install. Previously I was trying to deploy it via cockpit but I got the following error: [ INFO ] TASK [ovirt.ovirt.hosted_engine_setup : Obtain SSO token using username/password credentials] [ ERROR ] ovirtsdk4.AuthError: Error during SSO authentication access_denied : Cannot authenticate user Invalid user credentials. [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"attempts": 50, "changed": false, "msg": "Error during SSO authentication access_denied : Cannot authenticate user Invalid user credentials."} After researching in different threads of this forum, I decided to setup it via CLI by recommendation of different users, since it seems that cockpit hosted-engine deployment is broken. I attach the hosted-engine setup log but I am not sure where is the problem now. Can you help me? Thanks in advance. Pablo.

oVirt bug reports to move from bugzilla to github issues in future

Hi all, as a final stage of out gerrit to github transition that started ~9 months ago we are planning to eliminate the use of bugzilla.redhat.com for all oVirt projects (bugs with Classification: "oVirt") and use the native issue tracking in github as well. We used to have integrations with gerrit and bugzilla that we moved to github actions instead, and the overhead (and notorious slowness) of bugzilla.redhat.com becomes the only "benefit" of using it these days. There's about 50 bugs total left in oVirt bugzilla so it's not that much to move, the biggest change would be that the new bugs are to be filed elsewhere. This is just a heads up for now, we haven't set a cut off date just yet, but you can expect this change in the coming weeks. Thanks, michal

cancel export task - no qemu-img process on host

Hi, i tried to find way how to cancel hanged export task. I found that there should be some hidden possibility, but it is still not released and i cannot find how to allow it. i found how to remove this task directly from pg database on engine, but i am not sure if this also will unlock that VM. i cannot kill it by qemu-img process, because this process is not running. stucked VM is ubuntu 20.04 with 3 disks 20 + 80 + 300GB . Already running more than 12 hours and still did not start making ova file (checking in export folder) . qemu-img process on the host is missing . i tried to export smaller VM 7GB and it was successfully done by 2 minutes. During export qemu-img process was running on the host. Thank you for any help. BR jan

GUI snapshot issue

Hi everyone. I have made several snapshot of my vm, the interface says everything is good. But, when i go to the snapshot section of any vm, there is no snapshot. But, in disk section, all my snapshot are there. Any hint?

VMs hang periodically: gluster problem?

Hello, I have a cluster made by 3 nodes in a "self-hosted-engine" topology. I implemented the storage with gluster implementation in 2 replica + arbiter topology. iSCSI domain not seen by a node if the topology differ from the topology of the other nodes?

Hello, I think I0ve found another issue: I have the three node that are under heavy test and, after having problem with gluster I configured them to use with iSCSI (without multipath now) so I configured via the gui a new iscsi data domain using a single target under a single VLAN. I suspect there is an issue reporting the correct volume in my case: I try to explain. I had occasion to shutdown a VM for the purpose of adding RAM and processor to it and the VM willnot boot back up. I'm seeing "VM Issabel_PBX is down with error. IIRC there is nothing user-configurable. You can see most relevant constants in ovirt_hosted_engine_ha/agent/constants.py{,.in}. Nothing stops you from changing them, but please note that this is somewhat risky, and I strongly suggest to do very careful testing with your new settings. It might make sense to try to methodically go through all the possible state changes in the above state machine. The general assumption is that network and storage, for critical setups, are redundant, and that the engine itself is not considered critical, in the sense that if it's dead, all your VMs are still alive. And also, that it's more important to not corrupt VM disk images (e.g. by starting the VM concurrently on two hosts) than to keep the VM alive. Best regards, -- Didi

all active domains with status unknown in old 4.3 cluster

Hi, Currently I'm debugging a client's ovirt 4.3 cluster. I was adding two new gluster domains and got a timeout "VDSM command AttachStorageDomainVDS failed: Resource timeout: ()" and "Failed to attach Storage Domain *** to Data Center **". Then I had to restart ovirt-engine and now all the domains including NFS domains have status "unknown" and I see "VDSM command GetStoragePoolInfoVDS failed: Resource timeout: ()" in the events. Anyone fixed this before or have any tips? Snapshot task stuck at oVirt 4.4.8

Hi, We're running oVirt 4.4.8 and one of our users tried to create a snapshot on a VM. The snapshot task got stuck (not sure why) and since then a "locked" icon is being shown on the VM. We need to remove this VM, but since it has a pending task, we're unable. Hi all, I have a cluster running the 4.4.10 release with 6 KVM hosts and Self-Hosted-Engine. I'm testing some network outage scenarios, and I faced strange behavior. After disconnecting the KVM hosts hosting the SHE, there was a long timeout until switching the Self-Hosted-Engine to another host as expected. Also, there took a relatively long time to take over the HA VMs from the failing server. Is there a configuration where I can reduce the SHE timeout to make this recover process faster? How do I migrate a running VM off unassigned host?

Ok, now that I'm able to (re)deploy ovirt to new hosts, I now need to migrate VMs that are running on hosts that are currently in an "unassigned" state in the cluser. This is the result of having moved the oVirt engine OUT of a hyperconverged environment onto its own stand-alone system, while simultaneously upgrading oVirt from v4.4 to the latest v4.5. The oVirt engine knows about the VMs, and oVirt knows about the storage that those VMs are on. But the engine sees 2 of my hosts as "unassigned", and I've been unable to migrate the disks to new storage, nor live migrate a VM from an unassigned host, nor make a clone of an existing VM. Is there a way to recover from this scenario? I was thinking something along the lines of manually shutting down the VM on the unassigned host, and then somehow force the engine to bring the VM online again from a healthy host? Unable to deploy to new host

I currently have a self-hosted engine that was restored from a backup of an engine that was originally in a hyperconverged state. (See https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/APQ3XBU...). This was also an upgrade from ovirt 4.4 to ovirt 4.5. There were 4 hosts in this cluster. Unfortunately, 2 of them are completely in an "Unassigned" state right now, and I don't know why. The VMs on those hosts are working fine, but I have no way to move the VMs or manage them. More to the point of this email: I'm trying to re-deploy onto a 3rd host. I did a fresh install of Rocky Linux 8, and followed the instructions at https://ovirt.org/download/ and at https://ovirt.org/download/install_on_rhel.html, including the part there that is specific to Rocky. After installing the centos-release-ovirt45 package, I then logged into the oVirt engine web UI, and went to Compute -> Hosts -> New, and have tried (and failed) many times to install / deploy to this new host. oVirt 4.5 on Rocky 9

Hi, I'm moving all my infra nodes to Rocky 9 and my oVirt cluster is next on the list. I'm deploying a standalone oVirt VM on a KVM box and will set up the hosts afterwards. All are to run on Rocky 9 x86_64. I followed https://www.ovirt.org/download/install_on_rhel.html and created an Ansible playbook to set up the customisations. I now have all repos set up correctly, or at least that is my understanding. When I run yum search ovirt-engine I get a number of packages available from the repos, but not the ovirt-engine package. I do see the ovirt-hosted-engine, but I prefer the standalone option. This makes sense as I don't find the package at http://mirror.stream.centos.org/SIGs/9-stream/virt/x86_64/ovirt-45/Packag... , which I where all ovirt- packages are, except this one. Yum whatprovides engine-setup also turns out negative. I then decided to install ovirt-engine-appliance 4.5-20220419160254.1.el9 from ovirt-45-upstream, but that package produces an error on the GPG key import. It's unclear whether the issue is on my specific stack or wider. The missing ovirt-engine package is confusing though. Hi Jonas, I get the same error when I try to install. Last weekend I managed to do it (but with a lot of other problems) so something has changed during the week. When I log into my hosted engine VM from last week there is no Python-3.9. My dnf(1) skills are not good enough to figure out which dependency is causing Python-3.9 to be installed. Hi Paul, Thanks for the response. I think you're suggesting that I take a hybrid approach, and do a restore of the current Engine onto the new VM. I hadn't thought about this option. Essentially what I was considering was either: - Export to OVA or something OR - Build a completely new oVirt engine with a completely new domain, etc... and try to live migrate the VMs from the old engine to the new engine. Do I understand you correctly that you're suggesting I install the OS onto a new VM, and try to do a restore of the oVirt settings onto the new VM (after I put the cluster into Global maintenance mode and shutdown the old oVirt)? Migrating VM from old ovirt to a new one

Hi everyone I would like to ask you a question I have an ovirt 4.4 which got corrupted certs and I can't access the gui. It gives me error 500 internal when I want to access. I have a new ovirt 4.5 on glusterfs which I would like to migrate all my vm's to. Is this possible? Can it be done by cli? It would save me from having to reinstall all the vm's.

Gluster setup for oVirt

Hello all I tried to setup Gluster volumes in cockpit using the wizard. Based on Red Hat's recommendations I wanted to put the Volume for the oVirt Engine on a thick provisioned logical volume [1] and therefore removed the line thinpoolname and corresponding configuration from the yml file (see below). Unfortunately, this approach was not successful. My solution is now to only create a data volume and manually create a thick provisioned gluster volume manually. What would you recommend doing? static IP with OVN subnet

Hello, Hope you are all doing well. We have an interesting thing going on and so wanted to share with you all for some ideas and feedback. We configured a cluster with OVS switch and added an external network with subnet. So OVN started managing the subnet using DHCP. But here's the problem. When we add a nic with this network, an ip is assigned by DHCP. But we want an IP of our choice to be assigned. Here's what we tried. 1. We tried using the ovn-nbctl lsp-set-address like ovn-nbctl lsp-set-addresses 7840c97b-73c2-4246-a2a8-0e9e5b7f420a "56:6f:6b:54:00:ec 10.19.3.8" to update the static IP. But this does not persist a NIC unplug or a VM reboot. So you might ask why not just try assigning a static IP and not add the external subnet. We want to use security groups. For security groups to work, the ip assigned to the NIC and the IP in the value for fixed_ips in `openstack port show` should be the same. So the same thing repeats here as well. If we use the `openstack port set` to update the fixed_ips, a NIC unplug or a VM reboot will remove the IP. We have an internal IPAM that provides us IPs during our automated provisioning. Did anyone try this or have any ideas how to work around this? The only option seems to be just use DHCP and then update that IP in our internal IPAM tool. Hello guys, I notice for several weeks that the network usage is displaying 0% for all VMs. I notice an old message ( https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/thread/NNK6ERGAWDGI...) but still seems to have no solution. Also on Grafana, no data is displayed. Has anyone noticed this issue? I can open a bug to verify. Failure Of Latest oVirt Installation - Missing Packages

Hi All, This is all on a Rocky Linux 8.6 box, as a CLI oVirt self-hosted engine install. I have followed all of the instructions (include the special RHEL and derivatives and Rocky Linux instructions) in the oVirt documentation. According to rpmfind.net there is a 5.12.0-23 version of collectd* in the EPEL EL9 repo, but I read somewhere that oVirt is not-production-ready on EL9, so I don't have the EPEL EL9 repo "available". pkgs.org says that the only versions it knows about for pyton3-os-brick are for Debian and Ubuntu, and rpmfind.net doesn't list it at all (which makes sense if there are only versions from Debia-based distros). Could someone please point me towards an EL8 repo where I can get the required packages, or, if I'm being totally stupid, what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance Dulux-Oz

Slow upload via oVirt Manager

Hi! I am trying to upload some rather large disk images via oVirt Web Manager, but I am getting rather slow speeds. Network is 1Gbps between my pc and oVirt node via which I am uploading, but I am getting around 200Mbps transfer speed. Last time when I was uploading was when I had version 4.4 of oVirt and I haven't had that problem then. Now I am using latest version. Any steps how to troubleshoot this?

remote-viewer "Change CD menu" contains ISOs only from one storage domain. There are two "data" storage domains in the datacenter. Both of them contains ISOs and VM disk images. The first VM has a disk image in the first storage domain and so is shown in the domain's "Virtual Machine" tab. Similar, the second VM has a disk image in the second storage domain and so is also shown in the domain's "Virtual Machine" tab. When the VMs are running, in their consoles, in "Change CD menu" only ISOs from the first storage domain are listed. I would consider it a bug. It is possible to attach ISO from any storage domain to any VM. But it is not possible to see ISO from the second domain in "Change CD menu". Engine RPM: ovirt-engine-4.5.2.5-1.el8.noarch. Desktop RPMs: libgovirt-0.3.8-3.fc36.x86_64 virt-viewer-11.0-2.fc36.x86_64 Shall I open a bug in Bugzilla? If so, what component it is related to - libgovirt? VM remote console issue related to VNC and Root CA certs?

Hello, I have built a small 2 cluster "datacenter". One host is oVirt 4.5.1 and another 4.5.2. Each host is in it's own cluster due to CPU type difference. I am able to build VMs on each host and they are able to start. My issue I am fighting now is that I am unable to get remote-viewer.exe to open a remote console window to a VM on the 2nd cluster I've built. I'm trying to connect to a VM named "utm" which is running on host "mini-node" which is in a separate cluster from where "ovirt-node" resides. "ovirt-node" is the host where "ovirt-engine" resides. I have attached the whole log to this e-mail from my windows machine, and I think this part is most relevant: [image: image.png] I've tried to install the SSL certs for each server (from tcp/9090) on my windows workstation's cert store in both user and computer personal and trusted root ca store, but i'm not sure that the cert I have for my 2nd host is made right? Cannot upgrade hosted-engine due to a LUN in a storage domain

I need to know if there are any cli commands to manage storage domains. I have a completely empty LUN in a storage domain but I can't use it to apply to my hosted-engine upgrade. I think I need to put the storage domain into maintenance mode and remove it but I don't have the GUI to do this. Anyone know how to use the command line for this?

Engine and host certificates expired

I have an environment where the engine wouldn’t start and the certificate expiry dates were as follows. Host1 - 25th Sep 2022 Host2 - 11th Aug 2022 Host3 - 11th Aug 2022 I copied the vdsm certs from Host1 to Host2 & Host3 Engine then started on Host1 and then backed up. Engine cert expiry 11th Aug 2022 I put the cluster into Global Maintenance mode and then tried: ‘engine-setup —offline’ Which failed as the validation check said the engine wasn’t in Global Maintenance mode even though ‘hosted-engine —vm-status said it was. None of the Hosts are ‘GREEN’ (can’t remember what the status was as I’m writing this from memory) but their status is ’RED’. There are VMs running on the 3 Hosts and I’m reluctant to restart anything at the moment. Is there a way to refresh the engine certificate to get past this or do I need to restart vdsm service on each host to bring them back online as far as the engine is concerned? The environment is currently at 4.4.6 and is to be upgraded to 4.5.2 next month. Any help as always will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Simon

What is the proper url syntax to work with the new keycloak way and I know the username is now admin@ovirt @internalsso? Thanks Don

VDSNetworkException: protocol version not accepted by client

Hi, im running an oVirt 4.2.8 cluster with two nodes. A few days ago, my SSL certificates expired. After that, i changed all the certificates on the engine via "engine-upgrade" command and issued new vdsm client certificates. Then i copied the new certificates to my ovirt nodes and restarted vdsmd (systemctl restart vdsmd). Now i'm still not able to connect to my ovirt nodes. oVirt 4.5.2 - ovirt-hosted-engine-setup fails with "error: Must be number, not str"}]" when creating ovirtmgmt network

Hello, I am trying to deploy the latest oVirt (4.5.2), on a fully patched Rocky 8.6 system and am having and issue where "ovirt-hosted-engine-setup" is failing when it tries to create the ovirtmgmt network with the error "error: Must be number, not str"}]". When this happens, the engine setup pauses and if I can login to the bootstrap engine UI and when I attempt to manually assign the ovirtmgmt network to the correct nic on the host, I get the same error message. This server has (2) active network interfaces - a gigabit NIC that will be a VM network for all networks except gluster and migration and a 40Gbps Infiniband adapter in connected mode (IPoIB) for gluster and migration (I previously had these servers in the same hardware configuration running oVirt 4.3 on CentOS 7 and would like to have the same setup again - just with latest versions of EL and oVirt). I don't believe it's related, however for transparency I should note that the server is running kernel-lt from elrepo (5.4.212-1.el8.elrepo.x86_64) because both native EL and elrepo support for my Infiniband HBA was dropped in the standard EL8 kernel due to known bugs with that version of the kernel. VM has been paused due to no Storage space error on ovirt 4.5
