Testing oVirt 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 RC3 on nested KVM

Hi, I am testing the deployment of oVirt using ovirt-node next-gen and ovirt appliance on a nested KVM environment. My base system (the physical machine) is a FC24 with 16Go of RAM and nested KVM enabled. I used NFS for storage. Test with oVirt 4.0.3: - I created two hypervisors 5Go of RAM each and 4vCpu. - I installed ovirt-node next-gen OS. - I downloaded ovirt appliance and started the engine deploy using generated configuration from cloud-init (I reserved 2Go of RAM for the VM-engine). Problems : - I couldn't add the second hypervisor from the engine's GUI, when I tried to do it, ovirt-engine crashed. - I tried with the command line, the process terminated with errors. - There is no create a new ISO or Export domain only Data domain in the select list. Unfortunately I deleted the two hypervisors. Test with oVirt 4.0.4 RC3 : - I created two hypervisors 5Go of RAM each and 4vCpu. - I installed ovirt-node next-gen OS. - I downloaded ovirt appliance and started the engine deploy using generated configuration from cloud-init (I reserved 2Go of RAM for the VM-engine). Problems: - I couldn't add the second hypervisor from the engine's GUI, when I tried to do it, ovirt-engine crashed. - After adding the Data domain, the hosted_storage was added successfully, but the VM engine was not imported successfully, it's does not appear on the VMs tab. - There is no create a new ISO or Export domain only Data domain in the select list. - I added the second hypervisor from the command line successfully. - I tried to put the first hypervisor in maintenance mode, migration of the VM engine was started, from the command line I could see that the VM is running on the second hypervisor, but the migration process didn't terminate, I tried to reactivate the first hypervisor and put it in maintenance mode again, this time the ovirt-engine crashed. Nested oVirt : Unofficial network recommendations wanted

Hello, I'm trying to setup a nested oVirt for the first time, and according to what I read around and experience, some special network settings have to be chosen. For this first try, the bare-metal host is a Debian, running KVM, and the virtual NICs are setup as macvtap in VEPA mode. I'm not up to date with macvtap, but I think I understood that one of its limit was that no packet could be exchanged between the host and the guests. So far, this is leading me to access my own local VMs from another host. Too bad. I'm also witnessing frequent loss of packets. So far, I'm also seeing that guests can not ping each others, so I'm not going further before having solved these basic issues. I'm remembering the good old times of lots of bridges where my VMs could be reached by anyone (this was desired), but virt manager is not offering me this choice. I also would like to avoid NAT for other reasons. To you all (4) people who are playing with nested oVirt : - which is your preferred bare metal OS? - which is your preferred guest (first virt level) OS? - which network setups and modes are working best? Hi ovirt expertise i am new to ovirt, i now start install and play around. i unable find any doc from web site to create vm from snapshot via ovirt-shell (ovirt 4.0) , any help on this. i mange to create vm from snapshot via webui i would like to perform backup vm via api by using ovirt-shell. i have totally no knowledge on python ideal as below: create snapshot #add snapshot --parent-vm-name "rhel6.8_server02" --description 'my snapshot' create vm from snapshot ## missing, need help del snapshot # remove snapshot "597e550e-1285-46a0-86a3-6170791bc72d" --parent-vm-name "rhel6.8_server02" export vm to export domain ## missing , need help del vm # remove vm --parent-vm-name "rhel6.8_server02-snapshot" regards csyeow

Import Glance images in oVirt 4.0

Hello all the guides/helps/howto I can find about importing OpenStack Glance's iamges into ovirt relies on 3.x version and on the "ovirt-image-repository" present as a storage domain. But in 4.0 I can only see it as an expternal provider and there's no way to add it a storage domain (I can only add "Data" domains). Upgrade Problems from 3.6 to 4.0.3

Hello, I try to upgrade my ovirt engine from 3.6.7.5 to 4.0.3. When I start engine-setup I get the following message: "Failed to execute stage 'Setup validation': Trying to upgrade from unsupported versions: 3.5" My management client is a virtual CentOS 7.2 machine. I also tried the ovirt-engine migration from 3.6 to 4.0 on a new installed CentOS 7.2 machine. I got the same message. Attached is the engine-setup log. Regards, Michael

live migration with openvswitch

Hi. I'm trying to learn Ovirt 4 and have a problem with it. My cluster consists of 3 nodes. I use Openvswitch for network connectivity. I have a HostedEngine and one additional VM in the cluster. When I try to migrate the VM to another node, it fails. From vdsm and libvirtd logs I see that proper network interface on destination node cannot be found. Libvirt tries to find Openvswitch bridge with name like "vdsmbr_AOYiPtcT". It exists on source node, but it is unique on every node, because it contains random part. Additionally, it changes on every reboot. How this is supposed to work? -- Pavel Levshin

Ask for functionalities

Hi, I am not sure if it is the wright place do to this. - Is it possible to add a column in the hosts tab to show if a particular host is part of the hosted-engine group. - Is it possible to add for testing purpose when using nested-kvm, a fencing agent using ssh script to talk to virsh on the physical machine, to act as a power management. I tried to use qemu-ipmi with ipmi-simulator but I lacks documentation. Regards.

Every time I call the commands: * hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=global * hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=none The message appears: /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ovirt_hosted_engine_ha/lib/storage_backends.py:15: DeprecationWarning: vdscli uses xmlrpc. since ovirt 3.6 xmlrpc is deprecated, please use vdsm.jsonrpcvdscli import vdsm.vdscli ... This message prevents tracking the status of execution of commands in my scripts. How can I suppress this message?
