oVirt 4.3.7 and Gluster 6.6 multiple issues

Add LDAP user : ERROR: null value in column "external_id" violates not-null constraint

Hi, I have previously configured LDAP though ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-ldap-setup. The only working configuration was IBM Security Directory Server (the IBM Security Directory Server RFC-2307 Schema doesn't work), ladps and anonymous search user. With this one the search and login are working fine when I test them with ovirt-engine-extensions-tool aaa. But when I try to add a LDAP User in the User Administration Panel I get this Error message : "Error while executing action AddUser : Internal Engine Error" None of the solutions I've found on previous threads seems to works. Does someone have an idea please ? Please find the logs attached. Thank you beforehand. Re: glusterfs

Hi Eric- Glad you got thought that part. I don’t use iscsi backed volumes for my gluster storage, so I don’t much advice for you there. I’ve cc’d the ovirt users list back in, someone there may be able to help you futher. It’s good practice to reply to the list and specific people when conversing here, so you might want to watch to be sure you don’t drop the cc: in the future. Re: the storage master, it’s not related to where the VM disks are stored. Once you mange to get a new storage domain setup, you’ll be able to create disks on whichever domain you want, and that is how you determine what VM disk is hooked up to what. You can even have a VM with disks on multiple storage domains, can be good for high performance needs. The SDM may even move around if a domain become unavailable. You may want to check the list archives for discussion on this, I seem to recall some in the past. Note that “reinstall” is an option on the Installation menu for hosts, you do not need to remove the host first. It will pretty much just add the vdsm-gluster components in this case, safe to use. I currently have 3 nodes, one is the engine node and 2 Centos 7 hosts, and I plan to add another Centos 7 KVM host once I get all the vm's migrated. I have san storage plus the raid 5 internal disks. All OS are installed on mirrored SAS raid 1. I want to use the raid 5 vd's as exports, ISO and use the 4TB iscsi for the vm's to run on. The iscsi has snapshots hourly and over write weekly. So here is my question: I want to add glusterfs, but after further reading, that should have been done in the initial setup. I am not new to Linux, but new to Ovirt and need to know if I can implement glusterfs now or if it's a start from scratch situation. I really don't want to start over but would like the redundancy. Any advice is appreciated. Eric

Import domain will work. The VM metadata is available on the OVF_STORE container, inside the domain. So even the names and settings come back. Them you gradually start moving the VMs to the Gluster storage. Enabling Libgfapi in 4.3.8 - VMs won't start

Hello, all. I have a 3-node Hyperconverged oVirt 4.3.8 cluster running on CentOS 7.7 hosts. I was investigating poor Gluster performance and heard about libgfapi, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Looking through the documentation, followed by lots of threads and BZ reports, I've done the following to enable it: First, I shut down all VMs except the engine. Then... On the hosts: 1. setsebool -P virt_use_glusterfs on 2. dynamic_ownership=0 in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf On the engine VM: 1. engine-config -s LibgfApiSupported=true --cver=4.3 2. systemctl restart ovirt-engine VMs now fail to launch. Am I doing this correctly? I should also note that the hosts still have the Gluster domain mounted via FUSE. Manually copy the backup to the same directory . Attach again the storage domain and there should be a 'Import VMs' & ' Import templates' tabs in that domain. Hello List, after a few Problems with the package "java-client-kubevirt" and some updates Problems on my Hypervisor and my ovirt-engine i make a totally fresh installation of ovirt 4.4. So, after the new installation i can't create a Linux VM. Hey folks, I created a new cluster with a new engine, everything is green and running again (3 HCI, Gluster, this time Gluster 7.0 and CentOS7 hosts). I do have a backup of the /images/ directory from the old installation. I tried copying (and preserving user/ permissions) into the new images gluster dir and trying a domain -> scan to no avail. I'm having exactly the same problem: Hosted Engine VM is running with 5344MB of RAM, when trying to increase to 8192 it would not accept the change because the difference is not divisible by 256. When trying to increase to 8160 the change is accepted but log shows "Hotset memory: changed the amount of memory on VM HostedEngine from 5344 to 5344" at the same time amount of guaranteed memory does increase to 8160 which, in turn, starts generating error messages that VM does not have all the guaranteed RAM. Hello, I am a student and as a school project i have to make virtual environment using oVirt.I am still confused how exactly oVirt is working i just installed its engine with the default settings that are recomended in the guide and i am trying ot make a new host with the default data center and cluster. is it possible to crate a storage pool on the same Centos hosts as the Gluster Storage ? if we use Gluster for the Hosted engine and use Ceph for VM's ? it seems Ceph is much more stable than Gluster and I like the way storage is more transparent in Ceph

Compatibility version for VmPools

Hi, We recently upgraded to 4.3.8 from 4.1.9. In the update process we set Cluster and DataCenter compatibility versions to 4.3, but now we're facing a problem with VmPools. They cannot be edited and 4.1 as compatibility level is still forcibly set. That means that when new machines are added to the pool, compatibility version 4.1 is set on them and they cannot be started as a message stating the following pops up: Failed to run VM XXX-34 due to a failed validation: [Cannot run VM. The Custom Compatibility Version of VM XXX-34 (4.1) is not supported in Data Center compatibility version 4.3.] (User: admin@internal). Is there a workaround to start those machines, or a way to fix the problem? Thanks.

I'd like to update my hosted engine to version 4.3.8 from 4.3.7, but have concerns. First, on the hosted engine, yum reports that several packages are version locked. Specifically: 0:ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-dwh-4.3.8-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-tools-backup-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-restapi-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-dbscripts-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-backend-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* 0:ovirt-engine-tools-4.3.8.2-1.el7.* Is this normal and is it okay to proceed with the update? If it is not normal, what can I do to correct the problem? Also, what is the correct procedure to update the engine? Although I tried to read the documentation, I have encountered conflicting documents so I must ask. Sorry. This is how I understand it, but am not confident that it is correct: 1. Enable Global HA Maintenance mode. 2. On the engine, run # yum update ovirt* 3. On the engine, run # engine-setup 4. On the engine, run # yum update 4. Reboot the hosted engine. Is "systemctl reboot" acceptable or do I have to do a "hosted-engine --vm-restart" from a host? 5. Disable Global HA Maintenance mode. Your expert guidance is much appreciated.

issue connecting 4.3.8 node to nfs domain

Hi, Something weird is going on with our ovirt node 4.3.8 install mounting a nfs share. We have a NFS domain for a couple of backup disks and we have a couple of 4.2 nodes connected to it. Now I'm adding a fresh cluster of 4.3.8 nodes and the backupnfs mount doesn't work. Hello, error is Host host moved to Non-Operational state as host CPU type is not supported in this cluster compatibility version or is not supported at all. Error while making hosts

Hello, I am a student and as a school project i have to make virtual environment using oVirt. I just installed the oVirt-engine with the recomended configuration in the documentation and when i try to make a new host i got this error: Error while executing action: Cannot add Host. Connecting to host via SSH has failed, verify that the host is reachable (IP address, routable address etc.) You may refer to the engine.log file for further details. When i checked the log file the only thing that was there is that there is: 2020-02-06 03:59:24,594-05 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.hostdeploy.AddVdsCommand] (default task-30) [d54ee4df-32c8-474c-b315-51ad1131091a] Failed to establish session with host 'test': SSH connection timed out connecting to 'root(a)10.10.0.20' I was trying to make the host following this steps: Adding a Host to the oVirt Engine 1.Click Compute → Hosts. 2.Click New. 3.Use the drop-down list to select the Data Center and Host Cluster for the new host. 4.Enter the Name and the Hostname of the new host. The standard SSH port, port 22, is auto-filled in the SSH Port field. 5.Select an authentication method to use for the Engine to access the host. Enter the root user’s password to use password authentication. Alternatively, copy the key displayed in the SSH PublicKey field to /root/.ssh/authorized_keys on the host to use public key authentication. 6.Click the Advanced Parameters button to expand the advanced host settings. i. Optionally disable automatic firewall configuration. ii. Optionally add a host SSH fingerprint to increase security. You can add it manually, or fetch it automatically. 7.Optionally configure Power Management, SPM, Console, Network Provider, and Kernel. See Explanation of Settings and Controls in the New Host and Edit Host Windows for more information. Hosted Engine is used when deploying or undeploying a host for a self-hosted engine deployment. 8.Click OK. The new host displays in the list of hosts with a status of Installing, and you can view the progress of the installation in the details pane. After a brief delay the host status changes to Up.

I have the same issue on Dell R710's. Power management is optional and I don't use it. It doesn't affect it either way. I am connected to APC Smart UPS 3000. It will not find the apc either. Any other opinions would be welcome. He's right, no documentation about this issue. Installing hosts w/o node installer

Hey folks, quick question: If I would like to use specific versions (contained within the host) and craft myself a specific environment for the hosts am I correct to assume that only installing the ovirt repo and a gluster version of my choice (cough, 7.0) would suffice? Then adding the host via an engine (and taking the ususal steps as you would for an ovirt node: ssh keys et all)? To my understanding the rollout is done via ansible so packages will be installed if not present? The installation is pretty vague on this point (https://www.ovirt.org/download/) 1. Enable the Base, Optional, and Extra repositories 2. Install Cockpit and the cockpit-ovirt-dashboard plugin: 3. Enable Cockpit 4. Open the firewall 5. - 9. Deploy using a hosted engine. So, by using a remote engine (aka, like an additional host): 1. Enable the Base, Optional, and Extra repositories the end? I would use CentOS 7 as a base which I am very familiar with. I would also setup Gluster by hand so "Only" the virtualization part needs to be done. This would, among other things, grant me perfect host recovery options for a 1-host disaster case. We are looking at a base CentOS7 install without any deep modifications (except for some packages etc).
