Encountering a NPE on 4.2.8. HE deployment failing

Hey! I'm trying to deploy a 3 node cluster with gluster storage. After the gluster deployment is completed successfully, the creation of storage domain fails during HE deployment giving the error: [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "Error: the target storage domain contains only 46.0GiB of available space while a minimum of 61.0GiB is required If you wish to use the current target storage domain by extending it, make sure it contains nothing before adding it."} I have tried to increase the disk size(provided in storage tab) to 90GiB. But the deployment still fails. A 50GiB storage domain is created by default even if some other size is provided. Has anyone faced a similar issue? Regards Parth Dhanjal

Everything ended well - despite the warning 'do not shutdown' I powered off and powered on the VM. This action allowed me to trigger a snapshot deletion (again) and it completed successfully. Removing the disk of interest also completed successfully. So, I got a happy ending. I think I'm getting closer. It seems the snapshot of the VM did not get deleted and that might be the problem. Can someone give me a hint how to remove the snapshot as I get an error: Cannot remove Snapshot. The following disks are in ILLEGAL status: uyuni-OS-Disk1 - please remove them and try again. Yet, removal of the disk cannot happen as I got: Cannot detach Virtual Disk. The disk is already configured in a snapshot. In order to detach it, remove the disk's snapshot. This seems like 'Catch 22' . UI - cannot remove disk whiel system is running

Hello All, I have changed my system layout and the old disk is removed (echo 1 > /sys/block/sdX/device/delete) from OS, but UI complains when I try to remove with the following error: Error while executing action: Cannot remove Virtual Disk. At least one of the VMs is not down. Is it a limitation of oVirt ? If so, I will open an enhancement entry in bugzilla. VM snapshot - some info needed

Hello Community, I have noticed that if I want a VM snapshot with memory - I get a warning "The VM will be paused while saving the memory" .Is there a way to make snapshot without pausing the VM for the whole duration ? Experience 4.1.x -> 4.2.8 -> 4.3.4 upgrade lessons

Hi oVirters, Did a 4.1 - > 4.2.8 -> 4.3.4 upgrade in two hops. Here is my experience, hope it can save you some pain. Gotchas 1. For shutdown VMs, their disks were deactivated (though still attached) 2. For shutdown VMs, their NICs were "Up" but "Unplugged" 3. VM Custom Compatibility Version is hard to find. (If it is too old say 3.6, 4.1) they won't start up. The location is: VM -> Edit -> System -> Advanced Parameters (click this) "Advanced Parameters" is an expandable widget that is quite small when collapsed. When it is expanded then you will see "Custom Compatibility Version" 4. Storage Domain migration to V5: I use a NFS storoage domain. This is migrated to the "V5" format and a lot of cleanup is done. If you have stray files or images not owned by 36:36 (vdsm:kvm on my NFS server), the V5 upgrade will fail, there will be no SPM, and the Data Center will oscillate between Non-responsive and Contending. Why would there be non 36:36 uid/gid files? This is a long story, but from the older 3.x days when there was less functionality, we would sometimes directly manipulate the filesystem and/or qcow2 images using guestfish or equivalent tools which would change the owner to qemu:qemu. Forgetting to chown back to vdsm:kvm is a recipe for pain. Cheers! -- Richard Chan

Anaconda crashing on start while trying to Install oVirt Node on bare metal

Hello there! I'm trying to install an oVirt node(the most stable recent one) on a machine(just in case you didn't figure from the title :P) and anaconda just crashes \o/ I've tried to start anaconda in text mode, but the error is the exact same. Here's a screenshot of the event(text mode, although it shouldn't matter): https://i.imgur.com/ihO1xWP.jpg The only "disk" attached to the machine has no partitions, it's absolutely clean. The machine in question is a PowerEdge M520, if that matters, and I'm trying to install on top of a pair of 32GB mirrored SD cards. I installed CentOS7 on a machine that's virtually the same(they're the exact same, but aren't the same machine) and didn't have any problem. I just have no idea. Never encountered such problem. So any help would be very appreciated. Thanks ^^

I'm having a similar problem. The passtrough needs 2 steps, the first is to attach the host device to the VM, but if you don't enable the spice usb the vm fails to start. I don't know if the USB works straight from the host device or if it depends on the spice console. In my case, a device that work in a windows 10 pc doesn't work in a windows 10 vm. Maybe we both can get help in this matter. Hi, I am running 4.2 engine in a standalone libvirt KVM VM (running on a hypervisor that is not part of the oVirt infrastructure); i.e., I am not using hosted engine but still running engine in a VM. Now 4.3 won't upgrade inside this libvirt KVM VM: Failed to execute stage 'Setup validation': Cannot upgrade the Engine due to low custom_compatibility_version for virtual machines: ['agent03']. Dear oVIrt, Although it should be simple, I am failing to understand the connection between Default Gateway setting and Bad Gateway issue. On which network I need to set default gateway: Our ovirtmgmt is set not to be used by Guest VMs, only Hosted-Engine. We have tenant1 network which is assigned to VM Guest instances and it has Default Gateway, working one 😊. Hi, I want to set custom vm property as shown below testme = String1:45;String2:67; I know engine-config command to run in ovirt, but not able to construct regular expresion. Please help me. engine-config -s UserDefinedVMProperties='multiq=<regex>' I tried below regex but server throw 500 error code after setting property. regex =(^[a-z_A-Z0-9]+:[0-9]+\;)+$ And even if match entire contain as string that also fine for me. If you don't have a raid controller with battery-backed cache - disable the raid in bios. Fake raids are just like software raid, use the cpu for calculations and could be a potential problem if the Motherboard dies. Software raid (controlled by mdadm) and lvm raid (sane driver but controlled from lvm) can easily be recovered on any type of linux (as long as it is not too old ofc) and do not have the minuses of the fake raid. I think the simplest way is to get a new LUN and migrate the VM disks to it. Once the 2 old LUNs are free - you can release them both. console issue after installing 3rd party certificate

Hello Everyone, I followed the instructions on installing a 3rd party certificate on hosted engine. The certificate is installed properly and in all the correct paths, everything seems to be working fine but i cannot access teh spice console, it comes up with error cannot connect to graphic server and libvirt uri:none. any advice will be greatly appreciated

I am having issue with adding network to host nic with python SDK. It works just fine using the portal GUI. I have the following: bond0 that is setup as mode 4 bond0.120 that is attached to ovirtmgmt network bond0.96 that I am trying to attach a new installed network called External.
