Hello! I am interested to run ovirt in docker container. It was noticed that there is an official repo for it: https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-container-engine Unfortunately it did not get an update for 2 years (4.1). Can anyone help with the required answers/entrypoint/patch files for the new 4.2 ? Thanks!

Node, failed to deploy hosted engine

Hello! I'm setting up a new oVirt cluster. I've 3 hosts with node. I setup gluster storace using node wizard. All ok. I can't set up hosted engine. I have two ERROR, but I can't find a detailed log. On node I have a VM running in local temp storage but not accessible. aquantia 107 (10Gbase-T NIC) driver for oVirt node-ng?

I'm not sure where to send a request for including the current Aquantia 107 (10GbaseT nic) driver to be included in the ovirt-node-ng image. I don't see a centos RPM for kmod-redhat-atlantic, apparently there's a scientific linux rpm available for download.

Storage domain has corrupt data

We have an iscsi storage domain that has corrupt data. The os boots to the login screen, but does not accept the password, so ovirt cannot connect to it. We are able to boot to a centos live usb and mount the root partitions to see that data, but that doesn't really help since it has iscsi targets. We are seeing errors such as this: ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.vdsbroker.GetVGInfoVDSCommand] (org.ovirt.thread.pool-6-thread-21) [3fb88fb0] Command 'GetVGInfoVDSCommand(HostName = 0103ITVH084, GetVGInfoVDSCommandParameters:{runAsync='true', hostId='aaf63dd3-d8b9-4cc2-8ca7-977fbb1ea18a', VGID='sxpvjb-cdco-NyZ9-ReKL-WQdw-WGxG-qNjVCp'})' execution failed: VDSGenericException: VDSErrorException: Failed to GetVGInfoVDS, error = Volume Group does not exist: (u'vg_uuid: sxpvjb-cdco-NyZ9-ReKL-WQdw-WGxG-qNjVCp',), code = 506 Which seems to me that since it is on the live cd, the uuid changed. Is there any way to get the storage domain back online using something like a Centos Live USB? Thank you,

Lost access to Engine VM "The hosted engine has not been deployed"

For no specific reason, I lost access to Engine VM. when I run "$ hosted-engine --check-deployed" I get "The hosted engine has not been deployed" even though Cockpit Hosted Engine Setup page says "This system is already registered to ..." I have 3 node hyperconverged setup.

Hello, I’m RAIDing the local hypervisor disks. I’m aware that in some scenarios this isn’t even needed. But I would like to know which is the best practice in this scenario: Hardware RAID from a cheap Dell H330 controller, or just leave the controller in HBA mode and make a software RAID during install of the Hypervisor? Is it possible to start a setup of oVirt-Gluster Hyperconverged infrastructure with six nodes ?

Let's try this question again since my last thread devolved into someone else's question that had nothing to do with this topic. Is there are way to setup a new oVirt-Gluster Hyperconverged infrastructure with six nodes ? All the docs I see start with a 3-node cluster and then adding one node at a time. Is it possible to start with a six node cluster from scratch and use the storage space from all six nodes with Gluster? Six nodes, each contributing 2 TB of disk space. How much shared space will be available ? Thanks in advance for any help on this question. ravi

HCI cleanup of host1 possible?

Hello, I would like to cleanup a 3 hosts HCI install that didn't complete. If I connect to cockpit of second host it seems like an initial config screen. But if I connect to cockpit of the first host, that I have used in first attempt and I have rebooted in the mean time, it seems to find an engine config and doesn't show choice of install from scratch. On gluster engine volume I have already done clean up. Is there anything I can do on host1 to cleanup its partial config? Thanks, Gianluca

Dear all, I am going to deploy a self-hosted engine in order to manage 3 servers with 8 network interfaces each. I couldn't find in the documentation when the network shall be configured to perform the self-hosted engine deployment. In others words, what shall be done at the oVirt Node level and what shall managed afterwards via the Engine once the self-hosted engine is performed. Node version: virt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.2-2018062610 Storage: SAN via iSCSI I tried this order in my previous tests: 1. Install the oVirt node on every server with DNS configured 2. Configure IP + bond for the administration network (2 interfaces) 3. Configure IP for iSCSI network (4 interfaces) 4. Configure IP + bond for the VM network 5. self-hosted --deploy At this point, oVirt complained by not finding an network interface available for the deployment. Is the bond must be configured afterward via the Engine?

I attempted to create a new ISO domain however that option is not available in the drop down menu. Backport KVM bug fix for nested KVM in ESXi and Hyper-V

Hello, I send a dedicated subject message on this topic (second attempt because the first one seems not to be present in ovirt archive..). Also, the reply to my other related message seems not visible inside list archive page for some reason. It seems this nasty problem in nested virt using pc-i440fx-rhel7.X.0 machine type with X >= 3 impacts not only vSphere as main hypervisor for nested KVM, but other hypervisors too (Hyper-V) and other machine types too and could be due to a bug in KVM, so in the kernel, if I understood correctly. According to this link below https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1636217 and its comment by Roman Kagan in June this year: " This is a KVM bug. It has been fixed in mainstream Linux in commit d391f1207067268261add0485f0f34503539c5b0 Author: Vitaly Kuznetsov <email address hidden> Date: Thu Jan 25 16:37:07 2018 +0100 x86/kvm/vmx: do not use vm-exit instruction length for fast MMIO when running nested I was investigating an issue with seabios >= 1.10 which stopped working for nested KVM on Hyper-V. The problem appears to be in handle_ept_violation() function: when we do fast mmio we need to skip the instruction so we do kvm_skip_emulated_instruction(). This, however, depends on VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN field being set correctly in VMCS. However, this is not the case. Intel's manual doesn't mandate VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN to be set when EPT MISCONFIG occurs. While on real hardware it was observed to be set, some hypervisors follow the spec and don't set it; we end up advancing IP with some random value. I checked with Microsoft and they confirmed they don't fill VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN on EPT MISCONFIG. Fix the issue by doing instruction skip through emulator when running nested. Hello, I recently deployed oVirt in some hosts to evaluate it as one of my main virtualization tool. I like it a lot, but I don't know if this behaviour is normal: I just configured my iSCSI network against a IBM V7000, and from that point on, the host with the role "SPM" continuosly is reading from storage at about 7 or 8 Mbps. I don't know what it i doing, due to no storage domains are still created. How can I know what it is doing ? Regards, Silvio

Gluster snapshots on hyperconverged with VDO ?

I evaluate deploying ovirt 4.2 on centos 7.5 with VDO dedup in production. When deploying gluster with cockpit, after selecting deduplication/compression, the option to have the brick thin provisioned is grayed out. As a result, gluster snapshots are not possible. : - Neither in CLI : "snapshot create: failed: Snapshot is supported only for thin provisioned LV. Ensure that all bricks of data are thinly provisioned LV. " - Nor through the scheduler in volume management : I see the icon "Volume snapshots are scheduled" but I do not see any being created. There are no snapshot creation failure message in the manager. So I have two questions : - At deployment, is changing the gdeploy option manually from thick to thin supported for a LV on VDO device(or even a good idea)? - Should I open a bug report?

nul interface error when engine is creating ovirtmgmt bridge post-deployment

Hello again, I've been working on an automated solution that uses the API to add a host on first boot, the code checks out (or maybe it doesn't), however I can confirm that the ovirt engine works through adding all requirements of a host properly except when it gets to setting up the bridge on the new node. The following link contains the log lines from the engine.log file, I can confirm that if I go to the engine web interface, I see my two interfaces on the new node, em1 and em2 (this is a Dell R420 server), and I can click on the "Setup Host Networks" button. The proceeding dialog window gives me the ability to drag over the ovirtmgmt logical interface onto the active physical interface and once saved I can see the engine go to work on setting up the bridge without an issue. My understanding is that this is supposed to be an automated process (which is what i'm going for), might someone be able to help me understand why im seeing the error I am? Am I just missing something from the api standpo int that is supposed to tell the system which physical interface it needs to use for building the ovirtmgmt bridge on top of? One thing to note (it shouldn't matter I don't think) but the engine is behind a nat, communicating over a vpn to the new node. I have to nat traffic from the engine so the ip address seen is different than what was supplied to the ansible playbook, i'm not familiar with ansible nor the playbooks used to know if that will have adverse impacts such as i'm seeing in the logs. Hi Team, I tried to follow up the affinity rules using this tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs_5BSqacWE but I have few clarifications in it., 1) I understand the VM to VM affinity, It means both the individual VMs needs to run on a single common host, Say I have 2 hosts, so what happens in case of failure of host running the VMs? 2) If I create a affinity group and I get the following data, i) What is host rule / vms rule - enabled, enforcing and positive ? "enforcing": "true", "hosts_rule": { "enabled": "true", "enforcing": "true", "positive": "false" }, "vms_rule": { "enabled": "false", "enforcing": "true", "positive": "false" } 3) What is the difference between VM to VM affinity and VM to Host affinity? Doc's are not very clear, so please any help is appreciated. Backport KVM bug fix for nested KVM in ESXi and Hyper-V

Hello, I send a dedicated subject message on this topic. Also, the reply to my other related message seems not visible inside list archive page for some reason. It seems this nasty problem in nested virt using pc-i440fx-rhel7.X.0 machine type with X >= 3 impacts not only vSphere as main hypervisor for nested KVM, but other hypervisors too (Hyper-V) and other machine types too and could be due to a bug in KVM, so in the kernel, if I understood correctly. According to this link below https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1636217 and its comment by Roman Kagan in June this year: " This is a KVM bug. It has been fixed in mainstream Linux in commit d391f1207067268261add0485f0f34503539c5b0 Author: Vitaly Kuznetsov <email address hidden> Date: Thu Jan 25 16:37:07 2018 +0100 x86/kvm/vmx: do not use vm-exit instruction length for fast MMIO when running nested I was investigating an issue with seabios >= 1.10 which stopped working for nested KVM on Hyper-V. The problem appears to be in handle_ept_violation() function: when we do fast mmio we need to skip the instruction so we do kvm_skip_emulated_instruction(). This, however, depends on VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN field being set correctly in VMCS. However, this is not the case. Intel's manual doesn't mandate VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN to be set when EPT MISCONFIG occurs. While on real hardware it was observed to be set, some hypervisors follow the spec and don't set it; we end up advancing IP with some random value. I checked with Microsoft and they confirmed they don't fill VM_EXIT_INSTRUCTION_LEN on EPT MISCONFIG. Fix the issue by doing instruction skip through emulator when running nested. custom emulated machine in L2 ESXi

Hello, I had similar problem in the past with ESXi 6.0 U2 host where I defined a VM and used it as oVirt node for nested virtualization. If I run on this "virtual" node an L2 VM all went well until custom emulated machine value was at "pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0". At some point the default became 7.3 and the L2 VM was not able to boot any more: it remained in blank screen at boot. The same up to now in 4.2.6.1 where this default seems to be 7.5 I'm having same problem in a mini lab on a nuc6 where I have ESXi 6.7 installed and try to setup an hosted engine environment. This problem prevents me to configure the hosted engine because the L2 VM that should be the hosted engine freezes (?) during its first startup and I see indeed that the qemu-kvm process is started with option "-machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.5.0" Being stated that I'm in an unsupported configuration, I would like to understand if I can correct in some point and proceed. So some questions: 1) How can I understand what is the difference between running qemu-kvm with "-machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0" ad "-machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.5.0" so that I can then dig with ESXi parameters eventually to tune the settings of its VM that becomes my oVirt hypervisor? 2) Do I have any chance to configure my oVirt node so that when it runs the hosted-engine deploy it runs the engine VM with 7.2 parameter? Any conf file on host where I can somehow force 7.2 compatibility or set it as default? 3) during gluster base hosted-engine deployment at first "local" startup how can I connect to the console of the hosted engine VM and see where it is blocked?
