Access via IP instead of FQDN, as well as login issues (cannot authenticate root)

Hello, I am moving away from PVE, as it does not allow the use of virt-manager from my Linux desktop to control it. So after some searching around, I came across oVirt and I installed CentOS. Now I have two problems. 1, I cannot port forward a hostname or an FQDN. So my ability to remotely control it has gone. I wish to be able to access the webui by IP alone. How do I do this? 2. I cannot login. I get unable to verify login on the machine itself (I installed the Mate desktop for testing purposes) otherwise I get an FQDN warning from any other machine. In the logs I get this, [org.ovirt.engine.core.sso.servlets.InteractiveAuthServlet] (default task-23) [] Cannot authenticate user 'root@internal': Unable to log in. Verify your login information or contact the system administrator.

3.6 InClusterUpgrade

Hi, I'm in the process of upgrading to 4.1 from 3.6.7 (centos 6) The default cluster runs in 3.5 compatibility mode. I'm following https://www.ovirt.org/feature/inclusterupgrade/ for upgrading. I've set engine-config -s CheckMixedRhelVersions=false --cver=3.5 restarted and set Scheduling policy InClusterUpgrade Any recommendations how to proceed without shutting down all VMs? I also want to avoid creating a new cluster with 3.6 version cause then I will have to shutdown all VMs again. Thanks G ps. ovirtmgmt network security

Hello ovirt experts, I'm totally new to ovirt and trying to learn as fast as I can.So, please bear with me and my possibly stupid questions. Sorry if my questions have been answered already, but please point me to the place where I can find the answers. I've setup ovirt 4.1.6 and created a first VM that I want to expose in a DMZ. I attached a dedicated NIC to the VM using passthrough which is connected to the DMZ network. This is all working as expected. Now,I'm wondering what to do about the ovirtmgmt interface. Obviously, in case the security of the VM is compromised and someone get unautorized access to it I do not want the attacker to have access to my internal network through the ovirtmgmt interface. The most secure solution would be to remove that ovirtmgmt interface but then I loose management functionalities. Can you suggest the possible solutions to protect the ovirtmgmt network from unwanted access? Thanks for your answers Istvan

My server load is pretty light. Currently there is no more than 15-20 VM's running on my ovirt config. Attached are performance testing results on the local host and from a windows box. I have also attached my gluster volume configuration. There seems to be a significant performance loss between server performance and guest performance. Not sure if it is related to my limited bandwidth, mismatched server hardware or something else. When not performing any major disk intensive activities system typically runs at less than 10 MiB/s. Network activity about 100 Mbps. Does anyone know if there is any sort of best practices document when it comes to hardware setup for gluster? Have a question in regards to storage performance. I have a gluster replica 3 volume that we are testing for performance. In my current configuration is 1 server has 16X1.2TB( 10K 2.5 Inch) drives configured in Raid 10 with a 256k stripe. My 2nd server is configured with 4X6TB (3.5 Inch Drives) configured Raid 10 with a 256k stripe. Each server is configured with 802.3 Bond (4X1GB) network links. Each server is configured with write-back on the raid controller. We are running 4.0.1.1-1.el7.centos After a frozen migration attempt, we have two VM that after shutdown, are not anymore able to be started up again. Problems to log into portal

Hi, I'm trying to log into a fresh install (4.1 on centos 7) but though I've set the hostname-ip mapping in /etc/hosts of the server and my desktop, it keep complaining with the error: The client is not authorized to request an authorization. It's required to access the system using FQDN. Testing ansible playbook against a mock engine?

Hello, i'm planning to create a big standardization playbook for my environment to ensure that all the required configs (networks, hosts, host's nics and networks....) are correctly set up. Since i don't want to test against a running setup, i'd like to spawn a transient one for testing. I already know Lago, but i think is bit overkill for testing an ansible playbook. Is there any tool that creates only an engine instance with some fake hosts configured so i can test the playbook against it? Hi Gianluca, Can you try to reproduce it with FC? Maybe it's somehow related to that. Did you try to lvremove the old lv's, or are they still in use? Trying to do this from the SPM should be ok. What do you mean synchronize the information at the other node side? In any case, this is a disk that you don't need anymore, isn't it? You said that the copy part of the move operation went well. Troubles uploading iso files via engine-iso-uploader

Hello, I've recently ran into a problem after removing an old nfs mounted ISO domain and recreating it using glusterfs. When I attempt to upload an iso using engine-iso-uploader it shows that it's attempting to access the storage domain via nfs. ---snipet---- DEBUG: /bin/mount -t nfs -o rw,sync,soft 10.4.16.11:/ISOSB /tmp/tmpr4lwKy ------------- from the engine server I am able to mount the gluster volume from the above path without issues. Iguess I'm confused as to why it's attempting to connecting using nfs when I created the storage domain for it using glusterfs. I have 1 ovirt engine server with 7 host/hypervisors and a 3 node replicated gluster volume. I've created seperate storage domains for VM images(data) and for ISO images. Both storage domains are accessible from the engine server and all host. Every time I have tried to use it on the Engine interface it failed somehow. Hello All, first of all, I hope this question is not too trivial or hasn't been asked lately ( but i scrolled down the mailing list and didn't find anything similar, so...) I have a lot of trouble with locked disks when trying to remove vm's. I know there's the unlock_entity script but cannot get it to work. Where can I find a copy-paste-able uuid nr of the disk? It prompts me for a database password. Is this something I should have created when setting up Ovirt? Can anyone give me an example of a complete unlock entity command? Resize disk of powered on VM

Hello, I'm in 4.1.6. I have a VM with 2 virtio-scsi disks (on FC). If I try to do a resize of the boot disk (preallocated) from this menu: 1) - select VM - disks sub tab - select disk - edit - edit virtual disk window - extend size by X Gb I get error about "not all VMs are powered down" Instead if I do a resize of the same disk from this menu: 2) - select VM - edit VM - find the line of the disk and select the "edit" button at the right - edit virtual disk window - extend size by X Gb it works as expected, so without downtime Is this expected? Actually after 2) scenario, I had retried 1) and it works too this time. During the first 1) that failed, I see this in engine.log: Validation of action 'UpdateVmDisk' failed for user admin@internal-authz. Reasons: VAR__AC TION__UPDATE,VAR__TYPE__DISK,ACTION_TYPE_FAILED_VM_IS_NOT_DOWN But the VM is indeed up on all 3 attempts.... so I don't understand this message On another VM, again with a disk configured as virtio-scsi, but configured as thin provisioned, both from 1) and 2) scenario I get: c7service: - Cannot edit Virtual Disk. Cannot edit Virtual Disk. Disk extension combined with disk compat version update isn't supported. Please perform the updates separately. What does it mean "perform the updates separately"? I cannot online resize thin provisioned disks? The VM has only one disk, BTW. Thanks, Gianluca

Vnc client from windows 10

Hello, I'm trying to have a user connect to the console VM through vnc protocol, but without the virt-viewer application. The client is Windows 10. I have tried some options without success, with tightvnc, ultravnc and realvnc but all of them give error about syntax. Any native client suggested/recommended with windows 10 and oVirt? Tried also noVnc that works from a Linux client and so I'm sure all is ok at oVirt side, but from Windows 10 and chrome 61 I imported the certificate in trusted root authority but nevertheless I get the error Any hints? Hi Alex, Can you check if you have the following on your setup ? 1) gluster volume which will be used as ISO storage domain should have bricks connected using glusternw. 2) NFS time out is caused due to not having nfs.disable off on the volume. Can you try to set this and try again. 3) self hosted engine requires an additional NIC on the gluster network for the engine-iso-uploader to work sucessfully if ovirtmgmt and glusternw are on a different subnet. Even after having all the above if things do not work, you can just scp the file to /mnt/<storage-domain-uuid/>/images/11111111111111-1111- 1111-11111111…/ Hope this helps !!! High availability when both engine host and host with application vm failed

I want to make a setup, when workload is distributed between two sites are high availability mechanism protects from one site failure, restarting vms on another site. Scenario I use: 1. Poweroff hosted engine host, and then host with highly-available vm 2. Engine comes back on another site (which is fine). 3. What I expect, engine finds, that there's a host not available with HA vms, and restart these vms on another host. But, I only see in logs, that engine reports, that it cannot connect to that host (java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host). Whel I poweroff just server with app vm, High Availability works correctly, performs fencing and restarts vm on another host. I use release 4.1 from RedHat. Has anyone faced similar issue? And, if yes, how could that be toubleshooted? Thank you in advance, Sergei.
