In this case I could setup 3 subnets, one for each link, avoiding in thi= s way to implement bridging (and Spanning Tree) on the servers. My idea is = that when I build the server I should use the IP addresses of the 40Gb NICs= to setup Gluster and everything should to be ok. Anyway, I will test it on= a virtual environment before installing. If your ovirtmgmt network is separate from other (should really be) that should be fine to do. oVirt LDAP user authentication troubleshooting

These two pods are configured in the same way (three node with gluster) Trying to setup LDAP auth, towards the same OpenLDAP server, setup ends cor= rectly in both engine VM. When I try to perform system permission modification, only one of these is = recognizing the LDAP groups and allow setup and next users belonging to def= ined groups to log-in and perform assigned level tasks. On the second engine, system permissions, even if it recognize the LDAP dom= ain (it appear in the selection box for search base) do not find nothing, g= roups or individuals. How to analyze this ? I wasn't able to find logs useful for troubleshooting= . Setup ended correctly with both Login and Search tasks complete successful. Install external certificate

Cannot set a quota to limit resources for each user

Hi, We have a use-case to limit VM resources for each user and were following guidelines specified in the admin guide to set quota and limit resources for each user [section: 16.8. Using Quota to Limit Resources by User]. However looks like that quota is shared by all the users added as consumers. Suppose I have created a quota (say quota1) to limit the storage capacity to 100GB for each user. Once I add user1 and user2 as consumers to that quota, seems like both users combined are entitled to 100GB. Is my understanding correct? Please let me know if there is any way to configure a single quota which could be applied for each user individually (i.e, in the above eg., each user should be limited to 100GB storage capacity). Or is the only way this can be done is by creating separate quota for each user [which seems like tedious process and cannot scale]? Thanks, Soumya

Created cluster object, deleted Data-Center object, Recreated Data-Center object, Attempted to re-create Cluster object (Same Name As Old Cluster), Now Fails. Error message... Error while executing action: Cannot create Cluster. Cluster name is already in use. How to I remove existing cluster entry in ovirt database? Thanks.

Deleting old export backups in oVirt

I am using a script to make weekly backups of my VMs, but I really dont need more than 1-2 weeks per VM. I pulled open my NFS share where the export domain points to, but all the VM's have a long guid and I cannot see which folder corresponds to which backup. For example, when I click "Import" and then "load" one of the backup VMs listed is: Ubuntu_Server_BACKUP_20170731_012832 All I see are folders that look like: "f42fd734-e5e6-964e-87D1-8dbc554f0e19" Going into the folder there is a "META" file, which I can open, but there is no reference to the actual VM name. Is there an easy way to tell which folder goes to which VM? -Wesley

supervdsmd IOError to /dev/stdout

After an upgrade to 4.0 I have a single host that cannot start supervdsmd because of IOError on /dev/stdout. All other hosts upgraded correctly. In the systemd unit I have to hack StandardOutput=null. Any thing I have overlooked? The hosts are all identical and it is just this one that has this weird behaviour. -- Richard Chan

Lost disk image on guest

Updated the ovirt to latest stable and after the host reboot (hardware was relocated) all of the VMs on the host are ok except one which has lost it's disk image (it still exists physically on the storage device). Uploading this image to the storage fails (I get the usual initiating - 0/XXXMB uploaded - Paused by system, the ovirt-imageio-proxy is running on the engine and has nothing in it's log), and I'm also unable to create any new disks when editing the problematic VM (the Attach/Create/+/--buttons are all grayed out). The question is: Is the only course to 'fix' this situation to delete the whole VM and install it from scratch? Poltsi

Hi, I was going through gluster document it was talking about libgfapi, that gives better performance. And I also went through many bug description and comment and mail thread in ovirt group. But still not understood, how to enable libgfapi ? Is it supported in 4.1 ? I am confuse. Please help me to understand whether it supported or not. oVirt 3.6.x and Centos 6.9

Hi guys, I upgraded to the latest ovirt-engine-3.6.7.5-1.el6.noarch available in the ovirt 3.6 repo, however I seem to be encountering a known bug ( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1387949) which looks to be fixed in ovirt 3.6.9.2 but I can't seem to find out how to install this. I was hoping it was via http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.6-snapshot but this link is dead. Is anyone using ovirt 3.6.9 and how does one obtain it? The issues I'm facing is, after trying to update my cluster version to 3.6, my hosts weren't compatible, as it says they only compatible with version 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 etc. I then upgraded 1 hosts to Centos 6.9 and installed and updated the latest vdsm from the 3.6 repo, but this still didn't allow me to change my cluster version. I then rolled back the cluster version to 3.5. At the moment because I've upgraded 1 host, I can't select this host as SPM and I'm wondering if I can upgrade my remaining hosts, or will this prevent any hosts from being my SPM? I'm seeing the following error "WARNING Unrecognized protocol: 'SUBSCRI'" on my upgraded host. I'm wanting to upgrade to the latest 3.6 as well as upgrade all my hosts, so that I can start the ovirt 4 upgrade next. Please could I have some guidance on this? Thank you. Regards. Neil Wilson.

sanlock ids file broken after server crash

Hello, The ids file for sanlock is broken on one setup. The first host id in the file is wrong. >From the logfile i have: verify_leader 1 wrong space name 0924ff77-ef51-435b-b90d-50bfbf2e�ke7 0924ff77-ef51-435b-b90d-50bfbf2e8de7 /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/ Note the broken char in the space name. This also apears. And it seams as the hostid too is broken in the ids file: leader4 sn 0924ff77-ef51-435b-b90d-50bfbf2e�ke7 rn ��7afa5-3a91-415b- a04c-221d3e060163.vbgkvm01.a ts 4351980 cs eefa4dd7 Note the broken chars there as well. If i check the ids file with less or strings the first row where my vbgkvm01 host are. That has broken chars. Can this be repaired in some way without taking down all the virtual machines on that storage? /Johan

VDSM Command failed: Heartbeat Exceeded

Hi guys, Please could someone assist me, my DC seems to be trying to re-negotiate SPM and apparently it's failing. I tried to delete an old autogenerated snapshot and shortly after that the issue seemed to start, however after about an hour, the snapshot said successfully deleted, and then SPM negotiated again albeit for a short period before it started trying to re-negotiate again. Last week I upgraded from ovirt 3.5 to 3.6, I also upgraded one of my 4 hosts using the 3.6 repo to the latest available from that repo and did a yum update too. I have 4 nodes and my ovirt engine is a KVM guest on another physical machine on the network. I'm using an FC SAN with ATTO HBA's and recently we've started seeing some degraded IO. I then had to remove all 4 hosts, and change the cluster version back to 3.5 and then re-add them. We are in the process of expanding the SAN Array too, but we trying to get to the bottom of the bad IOPS at the moment before adding on addition overhead. Ping tests between hosts and engine all look alright, so I don't suspect network issues. Hi All, Just today I noticed that guests can now pass discards to the underlying shared filesystem. http://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/pass-disca… Is this supported by all of the main Linux guest OS's running the virt agent? oVirt and Foreman

Hello list is anybody successfully using oVirt + Foreman for VM creation + provisioning? I'm using Foremn (latest version, 1.15.2) with latest oVirt version (4.1.3) but I'm encountering several problem, especially related to disks. For example: - cannot create a VM with multiple disks though Foreman CLI (hammer) - if I create a multidisk VM from Foreman, the second disk always gets the "bootable" flag and not the primary image, making the VMs not bootable at all. Any other Foreman user sharing the pain here? Foramn's list is not so useful so I'm trying to ask here. How do you programmatically create virtual machines with oVirt and Foreman? Should I switch do directly using oVirt API? Thanks in advance Davide

Deploying training lab

Hello all, Don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I would like to set up a trainingslab with oVirt. I have deployed an engine and a host with local storage and want to run 1 server and 5 desktops off it. But the desktops will be used on thin clients or old laptops with some minimal os installation running spice client or a webbrowser. I was wondering if anyone can give me pointer in how to set up a minimal laptop which only need to run an spice client. Kind regards.

where did you manually install the packages ? engine or host machine ? you can you provide the engine.log to see what might cause the error on the engine's side. maybe rollback the last yum transaction you did and try to run the engine again. as far as for the host installation you might need to check the exiting repositories (Cenots or other existing repos on the machine) , its not recommended to use --skip-broken usually when adding a host. Hi Pavol I have similar requirement for Ovirt 4.1 PXE boot on UEFI enabled systems, however not able to do successful kickstart installation. Facing two issues 1) nodectl init or imgbase layout —init not working because of the reason commands not found 2) System keeps on network install cycle due to boot loader not been set or not installed - I don’t know sure exactly why? official status of Windows support in oVirt/RHEV ?

Hi, can someone please point me to resources about official status of Windows support in oVirt and RHEV? are there differences between oVirt and RHEV? i'm not talking about technical details, i know that eg. Windows 2008 or 2016 runs in oVirt, it's about support contracts. i looked at https://www.redhat.com/cms/managed-files/rh-red-hat-virtualization-datashee…, there you have the terms "Full support", "Support" and "Vendor Support". What's the difference? thx matthias

problem while moving/copying disks: vdsm low level image copy failed

Hello, We get this error message while moving or copying some of the disks on our main cluster running 4.1.2 on centos7 This is shown in the engine: VDSM vbgkvm02 command HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDS failed: low level Image copy failed I can copy it inside the host. And i can use dd to copy. Haven't tried to run qemu-img manually yet. The storage domains that we see this on is configured as dispersed volumes. Found a way to "fix" the problem. And that is to run dd if=/dev/vda of=/dev/null bs=1M inside the virtual guest. After that we can copy an image or use storage livemigration. Is this a gluster problem or an vdsm problem? Or could it be something with qemu-img? /Johan

Hosted Engine increase memory

Hi, is it possible to increase the memory of an hosted engine after the installation? cheers gregor
