KVM Import with Thin Provisioning

Hi, I don't seem to be able create thin provision disks when importing from KVM. Once import is complete the disk allocation policy is reported as thin, but the actual size is in fact slightly larger than the virtual size. For example, original qcow2 file size - 6G. Virtual size - 1024G. Imported actual size (according to Engine GUI) 1126G. Is this a known issue? Running 4.0.4. Thanks, Alan

Migrating VMs because previous host became non-operational

I'm seeing this error "Migrating VM blah-blah because previous host became non-operational. This appears in the WebUI under the task lists and is getting annoying since it disrupts things like creating snapshots. This migration is quite a feat on a single hosted engine installation with only one host so what exactly is going on? I'd be glad to include some logs and have looked at the vdsm logs but have no idea what I'm looking form.

Trying to complete the hosted engine setup, I get this Error message: Failed to execute stage 'Closing up': The VM is not powering up: please check VDSM logs Hosted Engine deployment failed: this system is not reliable, please check the issue,fix and redeploy I will restart the setup & see if that clears things up.

GetStorageDeviceListVDS failed

Good morning oVirt community, I need some assistance. I am running a 3 host, hosted engine, gluster environment. The hosts are running centos 7.3 and the engine is version 4.1.2.3 Since yesterday, every 2 hours, the engine reports the error below on host 2 and 3. event ID 10802 VDSM <host> command GetStorageDeviceListVDS failed: 'gluster_vg_sdb-/dev/mapper/36589cfc000000f05aea0f2b50f8d76e5: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error' I've attached logs from both hosts. Hosts 3 is the SPM and holds the arbiter brick of all 4 gluster volumes. As always, your help is appreciated. Joel

I am wanting to monitor the Ovirt Engine using Nagios -> NRPE and I=20 would like to open port 5666 the version is oVirt Engine Version: 4.1.1.8-1.el7.centos I have tried using the normal process for iptables (iptables-save etc),=20 but it seems that the file /etc/sysconfig/iptables is ignored when the Ovirt Engine VM starts. How can I add permanent iptables rules into the Engine VM? Timeout for Hosts

Hi, I got the same problem once and it seems to be related to memory. So first thing is make sure you have at least 4 gb of ram because thats the minimum requirement for ovirt-engine to run. If with 4gb+ ram you still getting error like this then you must have no swap memory turn on. In that case create a swap partition and turn on using 'swapon /dev/swap-partition'. If the error is still there then may be jvm is not able to access the memory at some place due to selinux. So disable the selinux then try again. Regards, Shubham

Hi, We recently upgraded vdsm on a host using the webadmin. After activating it, it kept failing so we tried to activate it back via 'systemctl start vdsmd'. # systemctl start vdsmd Job for vdsmd.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status vdsmd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details. But... after a while it fails again and I need to re-run the same command all the time. Is this a known bug? any temporary workaround? Unable to add storage domains to Node Hosted Engine

I have previously had rela= tively good success with the all-in-one plugin on oVirt 3.6, but it is time= to move to newer things and I am trying to get oVirt 4.1 installed on a cl= ean platform. I am unfortunately finding this very difficult and I hope someone here can = help guide me in the right direction :o) My intention is to use oVirt Node as the base OS on the server, install Hos= ted Engine on it and also have the storage domains hosted on it too. What I have achieved so far is... 1. Installed oVirt Node 4.1.2, generally using the default configuration 2. Changed the performance profile to "virtual-host" inside the web inte= rface as per documentation suggestion 3. Created a new volume group, pool for thin volumes, and finally an XFS= -formatted volume that mounts on /srv which will be used for the storage do= main(s) 4. From the console on the node, I have created /srv/ovirt/data and /srv= /ovirt/iso directories with ownership vdsm:kvm and access rights 0755, whic= h I have then added to /etc/exports with the following configuration: rw,sy= nc,no_subtree_check,all_squash,anonuid=3D36,anongid=3D36 5. When I install Hosted Engine from the Node web interface, I select NF= S4 for the storage and provide the correct host:/path. Other than that, an= d setting up static network details and email details, I follow the default= prompts of the Hosted Engine setup. 6. The Hosted Engine setup seems to run through to completion, and I get= a successfully installed message at the end 7. I open up the firewall on port 2049 for tcp and udp; this is done **a= fter** the engine setup is complete since the setup procedure alters the fi= rewall configuration and my modifications otherwise get lost. I have confi= rmed that it is possible to mount these nfs shares both on the node itself = and on the engine vm (once it is running). 8. I can log into the Hosted Engine web interface. This is now where I run into problems. The first problem is that no storage domains are registed, nor can I add an= y. I get warnings like "The hosted engine storage domain doesn't exist. I= t will be imported automatically upon data center activation, which require= s adding an initial storage domain to the data center". However attempting= to do so gives errors like: "VDSM server.domain command CreateStoragePoolV= DS failed: Cannot acquire host id: (u'fcdee6d8-c6fc-45fb-a60c-1df4b298f75a'= , SanlockException(22, 'Sanlock lockspace add failure', 'Invalid argument')= )". During Hosted Engine setup it seems that the /srv/ovirt/data storage d= omain is created, but I cannot import it. I also tried to create a new sto= rage domain at /srv/ovirt/iso and met with similar results: it creates it, = but won't attach to it. The next problem is that I can't restart the server from the Node web inter= face. Clicking on the "Restart" Power Options button simply causes the who= le system to hang. It appears to shut down the Engine VM ok, it also termi= nates all ssh connections, but after that the console screen on the server = just goes black and sits there. You can still ping the server from the net= work but can't do anything or see anything. Fortunately the Dell server ha= s a remote console feature that enables me to manually restart the server, = but this is not ideal at all. This problem only occurs once the Hosted Eng= ine is installed; before this is done, the "Restart" button works perfectly= . The final problem is that once the server has restarted, it takes about 10 = minutes before the Node starts the Hosted Engine. Is this correct? I woul= d have thought that once the Node is up, its first responsibility would be = to get the Hosted Engine up, but you can see from the dmesg output that on = average 530 seconds elapses before kvm is started. Is there anything I can= do to speed this up? Any help would be gratefully received. Or if anyone knows of a "oVirt for = Dummies" (TM) style step-by-step installation guide that installed Node, Ho= sted Engine and the storage domains all on one machine, I would love to see= that!! Andy --_000_AM4PR08MB0801A5061943222FB3BCEB44E7FC0AM4PR08MB0801eurp_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-= 1"> <style type=3D"text/css" style=3D"display:none;"></style> </head> <body dir=3D"ltr"> <div id=3D"divtagdefaultwrapper" style=3D"font-size:12pt;color:#000000;font= -family:Calibri,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;" dir=3D"ltr"> <p>Hi,</p> <p><br> </p> <p>I am trying to install a new server with oVirt.  I have previously = had relatively good success with the all-in-one plugin on oVirt 3.6, but it= is time to move to newer things and I am trying to get oVirt 4.1 installed= on a clean platform.</p> <p><br> </p> <p>I am unfortunately finding this very difficult and I hope someone h= ere can help guide me in the right direction  :o)</p> <p><br> </p> <p>My intention is to use oVirt Node as the base OS on the server, install = Hosted Engine on it and also have the storage domains hosted on it too.</p> <p><br> </p> <p>What I have achieved so far is...</p> <p><br> </p> <p></p> <ol style=3D"margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"> <li><span style=3D"font-size: 12pt;"></span>Installed oVirt Node 4.1.2, gen= erally using the default configuration</li><li>Changed the performance prof= ile to "virtual-host" inside the web interface as per documentati= on suggestion</li><li>Created a new volume group, pool for thin volumes, an= d finally an XFS-formatted volume that mounts on /srv which will be used fo= r the storage domain(s)</li><li>From the console on the node, I have c= reated /srv/ovirt/data and /srv/ovirt/iso directories with ownership vdsm:k= vm and access rights 0755, which I have then added to /etc/exports with the= following configuration: rw,sync,no_subtree_check,all_squash,anonuid=3D36,= anongid=3D36</li><li>When I install Hosted Engine from the Node web interfa= ce, I select NFS4 for the storage and provide the correct host:/path. &nbsp= ;Other than that, and setting up static network details and email details<s= pan style=3D"font-size: 12pt;">, I follow the default prompts of the Hosted Engine setup.</span></li><li>The Hosted Engine setup seems t= o run through to completion, and I get a successfully installed message at = the end</li><li>I open up the firewall on port 2049 for tcp and udp; this i= s done **after** the engine setup is complete since the setup procedure&nbs= p;alters the firewall configuration and my modifications otherwise get= lost.  I have confirmed that it is possible to mount these nfs shares both on the node itself and on the engine vm (once it is = running).</li><li>I can log into the Hosted Engine web interface.</li></ol> <br> <p></p> <p>This is now where I run into problems.</p> <p><br> </p> <p>The first problem is that no storage domains are registed, nor can I add= any.  I get warnings like "The hosted engine storage domain does= n't exist.  It will be imported automatically upon data center activat= ion, which requires adding an initial storage domain to the data center".  However attempting to do so gives err= ors like: "<span>VDSM server.domain command CreateStoragePoolVDS faile= d: Cannot acquire host id: (u'fcdee6d8-c6fc-45fb-a60c-1df4b298f75a', Sanloc= kException(22, 'Sanlock lockspace add failure', 'Invalid argument'))".  During Hosted Engine setup it seems that the /srv= /ovirt/data storage domain is created, but I cannot import it.  I also= tried to create a new storage domain at /srv/ovirt/iso and met with simila= r results: it creates it, but won't attach to it.</span></p> <p><span><br> </span></p> <p><span>The next problem is that I can't restart the server from the Node = web interface.  Clicking on the "Restart" Power Options&nbsp= ;button simply causes the whole system to hang.  It appears to shut do= wn the Engine VM ok, it also terminates all ssh connections, but after that the console screen on the server just goes black and sits t= here.  You can still ping the server from the network but can't do any= thing or see anything.  Fortunately the Dell server has a remote conso= le feature that enables me to manually restart the server, but this is not ideal at all.  This problem only occurs o= nce the Hosted Engine is installed; before this is done, the "Restart&= quot; button works perfectly.</span></p> <p><span><br> </span></p> <p><span>The final problem is that once the server has restarted, it takes = about 10 minutes before the Node starts the Hosted Engine.  Is this co= rrect? [Cloud-init] fail on CentOS

Hi, OS: CentOS 6.8 For me , cloud-init is failing but not getting idea where. Would you please help me to enable logs of cloud-init ? cloud-init.log file is empty and I have also verified /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/05_logging.cfg. It is default and look to me correct. Thanks, ~Rohit

disable ticketing script prevents console from opeing from web

We want to disable ticketing on the VNC connections to our VMs. I created a hook script that removes the passwd and passwdValidTo attributes from the XML file and this seems to work OK. The one problem is that I cannot open the console from the web portal. I get a "set ticket" failure. Is there a work around for this? Thanks

terminating sessions

In the UI, I see 73 open sessions, all open by me. In ovirt logs, I see a lot of : 2017-05-03 18:49:31,483+02 INFO [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.aaa.SessionDataContainer] (DefaultQuartzScheduler3) [dcf02fc4-72c3-4237-8855-d4e474766088] Not removing session 'B/GWJOxyLh3pXQPPitfCk29iiJ3XWMerYdNmOdZyc9ceqD+oAW/hhhZDXCltK+N4yRo9TgunhGR7w7YEELOI5A==', session has running commands for user 'XXXX'. And indeed I can't close those sessions in the UI. I have two questions: Are those sessions accessible using the API ? How to know what running command is waiting ?

Hi everyone, i've just subscribed to the maling list, I was going to ask one thing about ovirt in the IRC channel but no one was there. I've been using ovirt since 3.1, today we have one enviroment with 1 Ovirt Engine and 3 baremetal that we use for virtualization running the Ovirt 3.6.3. We have 3 NFS share from our colocation provider that are used as Storage. Our collocation will be rolling one emergency maintenance to upgrade the firmware on the routers that provides our Private Network, the NFS service run on this Private Network,the downtime should be no more than 3 minutes. I'm concerned, what is the best way to approach this, should we shutdown all the VMs and the hypervisor? Or we can just let the Ovirt handle this? The communication between the Ovirts and the Engine are from another network that will not be affected.

Model name: Intel Core Processor (Haswell, no TSX) On another ovirt's vm: $ sudo perf list | grep Hardware | wc -l 27 $ lscpu ... Model name: AMD Opteron 23xx (Gen 3 Class Opteron) On a libvirtm vm: sudo perf list | grep Hardware | wc -l 1 lscpu ... Model name: Westmere E56xx/L56xx/X56xx (Nehalem-C) ... Look's like intel CPU don't expose hardware events. Hi, Just trying to place in maintenance mode for a version upgrade, and one VM fails to migrate. The other 20-odd move over successfully. When I hit 'cancel migration' it reports that the migration has been successfully cancelled in the status pane at the bottom, but then shows it still in migration in the upper window. When I select the VM itself, it reports it is "Migrating From: 99%". If I cancel the migration here, it actually does cancel the migration properly. The VM itself is up and running ok. Rename already defined logical network

Hello, i'm developing a migration tool from VMware to oVirt. I'm creating automatically a set of logical networks through API, starting from the list of existing networks that are in VMware. In some cases the name that is set by the script isn't so much pretty (mostly because source name is horrible). At the end of the migration, i'd like to change the name of some of this networks to give them a prettier name. Is there any way to rename logical networks after their assignment to physical devices? I have running VMs on that network, so deleting and adding it back its not an option. Hello, I have an oVirt 4.1.1 environment with: - engine is a vSphere CentOS 7.3 VM with its nic on say vlan1 - 2 x hosts (CentOS 7.3) with their ovirtmgmt lan on a bonding (active-backup) on say vlan2 network architecture layout is to put hypervisors and mgmt servers in different vlans Today we had these 4 events below shown in our engine, with root cause apparently a maintenance network routing activity (it should have been transparent, network guys told..., but this is another story ;-) No alert message inside VMs 4) May 23, 2017 1:43:58 PM Host ov300 power management was verified successfully. 3) May 23, 2017 1:43:58 PM Status of host ov300 was set to Up. 2) May 23, 2017 1:43:55 PM Executing power management status on Host ov300 using Proxy Host ov301 and Fence Agent ipmilan:10.10.193.103. 1) May 23, 2017 1:43:37 PM Host ov300 is not responding. It will stay in Connecting state for a grace period of 61 seconds and after that an attempt to fence the host will be issued. Can anyone tell exactly the meaning of the different lines? Is the 1) detected because the engine, from only a network point of view, was not able to ping/reach the hostname of the host ov300, or the "not responding" is any particular specific check? Is the "61 seconds" delay tunable? Is 2) an additional check to verify status of ov300? In case of failure of test in 2) would the fencing have been immediate or the delay described in 1) would have taken place? Are 3) and 4) messages independent from the engine being able to reach ov300 or the 61 seconds delay would have been true anyway? Hope I have explained my doubts related to events that could determine a potential fencing of an active node with its running VMs... with the "only" temporary problem of connectivity between the engine and one of the nodes... Tried to build ovirt-engine on my computer using the command `make clean install-dev`, on Debian Testing. The full output of the error is as follows: https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/F6p~LVdNtFlpzQijMbSIYV5M1UNdIGYhyRLiv… I modified the following variables in the Makefile to suit where the required files are: JS_DEPS_DIR=/home/user/ovirt-js-dependencies PYFLAKES=/usr/bin/pyflakes JBOSS_HOME=/home/user/wildfly-11.0.0.Alpha1 WILDFLY_OVERLAY_MODULES=/home/user/wildfly-11.0.0.Alpha1/modules I have pep8 but was unable to know how to correctly reference it in the Makefile, the syntax being: PEP8=pep8 Advice on this would be welcome. -- - Warm regards Leni Kadali Mutungi
