questions on OVN

Hello, I'm successfully testing and using OVN on a single host environment with self hosted engine and 4.1 I'm using ip of ovirtmgmt for the host local ip used for OVN tunneling, even if actually with a single host it is not so important... ovirtmgmt bridge is on top ot lacp based bonding Now I would like to apply it on another environment composed by 3 hosts. Here ovirtmgmt bridge is on top of an active-backup bonding. Are there any cons to put the local ip used for tunneling on ovirtmgmt ip? Any problems/impacts on engine access/functionality using this ip for the tunnel? Is in genera OVN considered stable/fully usable in 4.1? Thanks in advance, Gianluca

iscsi or iser targets are not detached from the host in the maintenance mode

Hi, In ovirt 4.1 when I put the host into maintenance mode then the nfs mounts are unmounted as expected. but the hosts are still logged into the targets. Is it expected behavior?? If yes what is the use of it? Another thing concerning to the permanently removed direct LUNs. They are still in the /var/lib/iscsi/nodes and /var/lib/iscsi/send_targets/* Would be good to cleanup the folders if users are removing permanently the LUNs. Thanks, Arman.

vdsm conf files sync

Hello, in my 2 original 4.1 hosts I got some storage errors using rdbms machines when restoring or doing hevy I/O. My storage domain is FC SAN based. I solved the problem setting this conservative settings into /etc/vdsm/vdsm.conf.d cat 50_thin_block_extension_rules.conf [irs] # Together with volume_utilization_chunk_mb, set the minimal free # space before a thin provisioned block volume is extended. Use lower # values to extend earlier. volume_utilization_percent = 25 # Size of extension chunk in megabytes, and together with # volume_utilization_percent, set the free space limit. Use higher # values to extend in bigger chunks. volume_utilization_chunk_mb = 4096 Then I added a third host in a second time and I wrongly supposed that an equal vdsm configurtion would have been deployed with "New Host" from gui.... But is not so. Yesterday with a VM running on this third hypervisor I got the previous experimented messages; some cycles of these VM dbatest6 has recovered from paused back to up. VM dbatest6 has been paused due to no Storage space error. VM dbatest6 has been paused. in a 2 hours period. Two questions: - why not align hypervisor configuration when adding host and in particular the vdsm one? Any reason in general for having different config in hosts of the same cluster? - the host that was running the VM was not the SPM. Who is in charge of applying the settings about volume extension when a VM I/O load requires it because of a thin provisioned disk in use? I presume not the SPM but the host that has in charge the VM, based on what I saw yesterday... Thanks, Gianluca

Secure installation via RPM

Hello, The getting download documentation (http://www.ovirt.org/download/) says to use yum to install a RPM directly from a plain HTTP URL. Is there a HTTPS host for the oVirt RPMs? Disaster Recovery Testing

Hi We currently use direct lun for our virtual machines and I would like to move away from doing this and move onto storage domains. At the moment we are using an ISCSI SAN and we use on replicas created on the SAN for disaster recovery. As a test I thought I would replicate an existing storage domain's volume (via the SAN) and try to mount again as a separate storage domain (This is with ovirt 4.06 (cluster mode 3.6)) I can log into the iscsi disk but then nothing gets listed under Storage Name / Storage ID (VG Name) Should this be possible or will it not work due the the uids being identical ? How to enable Global Maintenance via the REST-API?

Hey Guys, I've gone through both oVirt's & Red Hat's API docs, but I can only find info on getting the global maintenance state & setting local maintenance on specific hosts. Is it not possible to set global maintenance via the API? ovirt 4 reboot behaviour

Hi, I noticed a different behaviour after upgrading my entire setup from rhev 3.6.9 to rhev 4.0.5. A virtual machine reboot changes the host where the VM is running, also if the VM was started in "run once" mode with a payload specifying a placement policy. In version 3 the VM didn't change host across a reboot; and continued running in run once mode, keeping the same payload given at start time. Is there a way to keep the VM running on the same host across a reboot, excluding the obvious (but time consuming) way of migration after reboot? If not (but this is a request for enhancement), is it possible to introduce a payload for reboot (just like for "start") to specify the placement policy? Thank you in advance, gc

I am a web security and anonymity enthusiast, tried to work with the Tor Project for GSoC 2016 but it did not work out. gdeploy error

Hi, I am a new sys admin and trying to install glusterfs using gdeploy, I started with a simple script to enable a service(ntpd). gdeploy --version gdeploy 2.0.1 [root@ovirt1 gdeploy]# cat ntp.conf [hosts] ovirt1 [service1] action=enable service=ntpd [service2] action=start service=ntpd The issue is that the gdeploy is returning error fatal: [ovirt1]: FAILED! => {"failed": true, "msg": "module (setup) is missing interpreter line"} Is there a simple way to debug or figure out how to fix this error?

Two Problems On New Install

Hi Everyone, I recently installed oVirt 4.0 on two servers with an iSCSI backstore, and I'm having two issues I'm having trouble tracking down. First, the initial datastore that the hosted engine is running on won't connect. It just says "Unattached" in the GUI, and I can't find an error message anywhere. Not a huge deal, it just means I can't see the hosted engine itself in the GUI. Hi, We've got a 8-host cluster running oVirt 4.1; each host is connected via iscsi to a EQL 4100 storage (2x). Most of the VMs use barely any IOPS, however on our storage controller we've noticed a constant steam of reads, about 2000 IOPS; any idea what might cause the ovirt hosts to hammer on the storage so much? Looking at iotop, it seems that systemd-udevd is being activated every few seconds (and its IO% is usually fairly high) so I assume this might be somehow related. Thanks, Andrea

Hi, I want to migrate from a bare-metal engine to a self-hosted one. I'm following the guide at: http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Migrating_from_Bare_Met… I've created a new VM with el 7.3 on the existing cluster, and used an NFS share as storage on another VM, (which does not fill up). Bandiwdth limit on a Virtual Machine

Hello. Is there any limitation of bandwidth for a Virtual Machine per default ? I have a host with a bonding of 3 x 1Gb and the VM is connected to that bonding. On the Engine interface on the VM status I see "Network" and it has a percentage and a tiny graph. What that percentage is related to ? 1Gb ? 3Gb ? 10Gb ? Is there anything that has to be done in order the VM can achieve speeds over 1Gbps ? Fernando

Ovirt not seeing cinder usage

Hello, Is it normal to not see the usage of a ceph backed cinder storage domain? If not, can someone point me in the right direction to see what I should be troubleshooting, I don't see anything obvious in vdsm/engine logs. Upgrading oVirt-Node-NG from 4.0.3 to 4.0.6

We recently migrated from 3.6 to 4.0, but I'm a little confused about how to keep the nodes up to date. I see the auto-updates come through for my 4.0.3 nodes, but they don't seem to upgrade them to the newer 4.0.x releases. Is there a way to do this upgrade? I have two nodes that were installed with 4.0.3, and I would like to bring them up to the same version as everything else. For reference, the 4.0.3 nodes were built off the 4.0-2016083011 iso, and the 4.0.6 nodes were built off the 4.0-2017011712 iso. Thanks, Thomas
