ovirt-engine-rename after restore

Hi, I am trying to upgrade ovirt from 3.6 to 4.0. I have backed up configuration on current CenTOS6 oVirt 3.6 manager with engine-backup, successfully restored it to a new CenTOS7 running 4.0, and trying to run ovirt-engine-rename. I do use custom Apache certificates. CA files are restored fine from backup. Where can I start looking next? Thank you!

Translate hint

Hello, I'm checking Italian Translation in 4.0.6 and completing it for 4.1 (now at 92%). Suppose I found an untranslated / bad translated word: what is the best and quick way to go to Zanata and find the reference for it and correct? For example in 4.0.6 I'm in dashboard and at bottom I have the three labels Alert, Events, Tasks I click ALerts and then I want to dismiss an Alert because it happened while I was configuring Power Management: I faked the password to verify that the test failed and I got the alert Power Management test failed for Host ..... I rght click on the alert line and I see three options and the first and third one are untranslated they are Dismiss Alert Display All (I'm going to send a separate e-mail to ask about alerts and events in general). If I go to Zanata, select oVirt 4.0 and Italian language line and use the search function I don't find anything.... I see there is an option to Download All for Offline Translation and Export Italian Documents to TMX I have not tried them yet, but I would prefer to directly correct online while I find some things to correct. Migrate hosted engine to a new storage domain

Hi We are planning on moving to a different storage solution and I'm curious, is there a way to migrate the hosted engine's storage domain to the new solution? It's NFS currently and can be NFS on the new storage as well. >From what I've read it looks like it should be possible to 1. Take a full backup of the engine VM 2. Deploy another hosted engine VM with hosted-engine --deploy 3. Install/configure CentOS 7.3 4. Deploy new engine with engine-setup 5. Then restore the backup into the new VM. What I'm not sure of is if that backup will contain enough of it's data to restore to a completely different storage domain? Also, the engine database is on a remote server, the data warehouse service and all other aspects of the hosted engine reside on the VM. Thanks, Logan

Distribute collection of VMs

We currently use an OVA-file for Virtualbox to distribute a collection of VMs to our customers. We would like to also support customers using oVirt. Our VMs work if we convert the disk images to qcow2 and manually configure the VMs. Specifically the network interface connections needs to be configured. Is it possible to automatically import the OVA file (from the many threads here I guess not..)? What is the preferred method to distribute a collection of VMs for use in oVirt? posix compliant fs with ceph rbd

Hi, I want to use Ceph with oVirt in some non standard way. The main idea is to map rbd volume to all computes and to get the same block device, say /dev/foo/bar, across all nodes, and then use "POSIX compliant file systems" option to add Storage Domain. Am I crazy? If not, what should I do next: create a file system on top of /dev/foo/bar, say XFS, and add DATA Domain as POSIX compliant? Does it work, I mean does oVirt compatible with not clustered file system in this scenario? Mostly, I want to use rbd like oVirt do with iSCSI storage just to have scalability and high availability (for example, when one storage node failed). Thanks for advice. PS. Yes, I know about Gluster but want to use Ceph :)

spice inside spice and Shift F12

Hello, sometimes it happens that I open a spice console from a browser that actually is itself inside a VM and connected through a spice console session. So Shift+F12 doesn't work at all and to exit from this inner console I have to shutdown the VM so I loose the focus and I regain it inside the first spice session. It seems in the past I used some kind of combination to override this (probably in plain libvirt+Qemu/KVM and not in oVirt) but I don't remember... Could I set for example a different combination for the two environments to exit console, so that they don't contrast with one another? Gianluca

In this case if I go in guest console and ping the gateway, the connection is resumed. And I can maintain it if I leave the ping running, otherwise after a little I again loose connectivity. I suspect it is not important but the guest is Oracle Linux 6.5 with 3.8.13-16.2.1.el6uek.x86_64 kernel. The adapter for the vnic is the default; the qemu-kvm command line generated contains this: -netdev tap,fd=29,id=hostnet0,vhost=on,vhostfd=30 -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=hostnet0,id=net0,mac=00:1a:4a:16:01:51,bus=pci.0,addr=0x3 I seem to remember some years ago when I used the same blades with plain qemu-kvm/libvirt I had to make up an ethtool setting for similar problems, but I don't remember what it was... and possibly I used bnx2 kernel module with the other embedded network interfaces, I'm not sure... Configuring an ISO domain in RHEV 4.0

I did not configure it during the initial ovirt-engine-setup, and am manually configuring it after the fact. I created an NFS share in /var/lib/exports/iso and dropped a couple of files in there from elsewhere, just for testing purposes. On a client system, I can mount the NFS share, but it appears empty. On the RHEV manager when I try to add an ISO domain, I get this error message: "Error while executing action Add Storage Connection: Permission settings on the specified path do not allow access to the storage. Verify permission settings on the specified storage path." I suspect the selinux permissions aren't set right. Size of vm memory still in MB

Hello, When you create/modify a vm, the memory definition still has to be defined in megabytes.. Can we switch to GB, or change the input workflow so that there is a field for the number itself and a list of values box to choose between GB, MB (and perhaps TB in the future or already now) Thanks, Gianluca

Shared disks

Is the documentation described here up 2 date for 4.0.6 and/or 4.1? https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/sharedraw… Is live migration possible for a vm with shared disks? The disks seem to be only raw.. does this mean that if I edit a qcow2 disk and make it shared it will be converted to raw? Any particular hint for usage of shared disks functionality to test RHCS and Oracle RAC? Thanks in advance Gianluca

oVIRT 4.0.6 / Pools creation issue

I'm running a cluster of oVIRT on 4.0.6 and we are using purely NFS storage for ISO/EXPORT/DATA domain. We are using a Tintri NFS appliance. What I can't seem to figure out is when I go to create a Pool from a template it fails. I have tried to export the template to export domain, then delete the template and re-import the template, however it fails with the logs below from the engine.log. It appears to give error message trying to create snapshot from Template? We use to be on a gluster volumes be we migrated everything off gluster. Usage of Alerts, Events, Task information

Hello, there are some alerts that are automatically hidden (such as when I configure Power mgmt, the previous related alert go away), but not all. where to find info about their mgmt? I don't see anything special in "Introduction to Administration Portal" in RHEV 4.0 docs. Only that it is named "Alerts/Events Pane".... If I go to the line and right click I have Dismiss Delete All Display All How do they act exactly? If I select Display All, I get again what was automatically hidden (eg backup missing alerts and power mgmt conf missing alerts): how to re-hid them (I imagine dismiss, but I would like a global dismiss not one-by-one). Difference between dismiss and delete? Thanks in advance Gianluca

is there a way to disable powerchecks for specific servers/clusters when powermanagement is not configured for a host? the alerts are filling because of it and it's unneeded. Would be nice to know. Thanks!

I am deploying a oVirt environment which will not get production data immediately. Obviously I would rather use 4.1 RC due the many changes and fixes present. Later when 4.1 becomes stable then upgrade to it. Does anyone see any problem in doing that way or would it be more advisable to start with 4.0.6 and upgrade to 4.1 stable when time comes ? My concern are the issue people related they had when upgrading from one major version to another in the past. Thanks Fernando

I'm figuring out how to connect to the hosted engine using virt-viewer on a client, is there any more information about this ? You set the console password but then ? on what port do we connect, and I assume we connect the normal way for normal VM's Consoles ? Any info would be nice. Thanks. Matt

How to resume hosted-engine --vm-start-paused

I'm trying to resume a pause started HostedEngine but I'm failing and I see lots of topics about some option --vm-resume being needed. "virsh resume HostedEngine" asks me for a username which is not set, so I'm wondering how to get this working. Thanks! Matt

Missing Cloud-Init parameters when creating VM from template in User Portal

Hello, we are running oVirt Engine in version 4.0.6.3-1. While preparing templates I came across the following problem. The virtual machine created with the template should be configured via Cloud-Init on initial run. The checkbox 'Use Cloud-Init/Sysprep' is ticked and the necessary fields for provisioning via Cloud-Init are filled. When viewing/editing the template in Administration Portal and User Portal the checkbox is still ticked and fields are filled, also when creating a VM via 'VM/ New VM' inside Administration Portal. But not when a VM is created via 'VM/ New VM' inside User Portal. Checkbox is unticked and when it is activated all fields are unfilled. Is this a bug or a feature? Seems to unrelated to permissions of the user who creates the VM, because we can reproduce it even with Super User permissions. Kind regards Jan
