vdsmd and libvirtd services failed to start

Hi, I have a HCI setup running on 3 nodes and created 6 VM's. Was running IO (like dd and linux untar) on those VM's overnight. Next day i saw that for 2 of the nodes vdsmd and libvirtd services failed and if manually started, they don't come up. All the VM's state has changed to 'unknown' and failed to migrate. Can someone help looking at the logs and figure out the RCA. Let me know what all logs are needed, i can post the same. Thanks, Bhaskarakiran.

Web administration page gone

Hi All, my ovirt web admin page overwrite by the foreman installation, I have remove the foreman but ovirt admin page still not found, the running VM and engine are not affect. How do I recovery the admin page? -- Thanks & Regards Francis Yap

Import storage domain - disks not listed

Hi all, I have a gluster volume used as data storage domain which is replicated to a slave gluster volume (say, slavevol) using gluster's geo-replication feature. Now, in a new oVirt instance, I use the import storage domain to import the slave gluster volume. The "VM Import" tab correctly lists the VMs that were present in my original gluster volume. However the "Disks" tab is empty. GET https://new-ovitt/api/storagedomains/5e1a37cf-933d-424c-8e3d-eb9e40b690a7/d… --> <disks/> In the code GetUnregisteredDiskQuery - if volumesList.size() != 1 - the image is skipped with a comment that we can't deal with snapshots. How do I recover the disks/images in this case? Console not working

I'm on 3.6.4 (yes I'll update soon when I get time) and I can't access the VMs via console anymore. At one time I right clicked, choose consoel and had a console open in a window. The VMS show SPICE as the graphics in the admin web so I assume that's default. Now if I try and open a console I'm asked to download a vv file so I save it and I did setup according to this, https://access.red hat.com/documentation/en- US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.4/html/User_Guide/chap- Installing_Supporting_Components.html, and all I got was a blank window and this error if I try to Toggle messages output. WebSocket error: Can't connect to websocket on URL: wss://ovengine1.corp.l1049h.net:6100 followed by lots of characters. If I set the console options to native I get the request to download a vv file or open with firefox. If I say open with firefox it puts the f ile://pathtovv in the url and then asks again so I'm in an infinite loop. If I save and then open with firefox I get the same infinite loop nonsense. If I try and use VNC in console options I'm told to set the VM console options which I have done several time to VNC, spice+vnc, and then back to VNC. I reboot and still can't use VNC. For others who may have this issue I finally got to select VNC by shutting down the VM (again) and selection VNC in the console. I restarted and it finally set the protocol to VNC. Unfortunately when I try and connect to the console I still get the stupid vv file and firefox goes into it's infinite loop. At this point spice is useless (I've never gotten it to work with oVirt) and VNC seems broken. I must be missing something. How do I connect to the console of my VM as I used to by simply clicking the console icon or selecting the menu item. I have imported it and need to setup the networking so I can ssh or connect to it with thinlinc. If I use VNC how to I connect to the VM. I can connect to an engine VM via the remote-viewer ... command line but how do I get to an individual VM? Thanks.

Restart VMs after failure

One of my oVirt clusters, running 3.6.5, lost power last night (power failure plus bad UPS batteries - batteries on order!). When power came back, the storage and nodes came back, and then the hosted engine started, but nothing else happened (no other VMs started). I expected that VMs that were running when the power failed would have been restarted once the engine came back up. Is there a way to make that happen? -- Chris Adams <cma(a)cmadams.net>

Hi All, I want to write a script to poweroff vms and start vms in a loop for my testing. I found the command to poweroff the vms by looking at the vdsClient -h, but can some one help me how to start the powered off vm using vdsClient command ?? Thanks kasturi.

node unresponsive after reboot

Hi, I have a two node + engine ovirt setup, and I was having problems doing a live migration between nodes. I looked in the vdsm logs and noticed selinux errors, so I checked the selinux config, and both the ovirt-engine host and one of the nodes had selinux disabled. So I thought I would enable it on these two hosts, as it is officially supported anyway. I started with the node, and put it into maintenance mode, which interestingly, migrated the VMs off to the other node without issue. After modifying the selinux config, I then rebooted that node, which came back up. Prepare for version 4 of oVirt API

Hello all, For those of you that use oVirt API, I wanted to inform you that version 4 of oVirt will by default use a new version of the API, incompatible with the previous one. [hosted-engine] engine VM doesn't respawn when its host was killed (poweroff)

Hi, From the hosted-engine FAQ, the engine VM should be up and running in about 5 minutes after its host was forced poweroff. However, after updated oVirt 3.6.4 to 3.6.5, the engine VM won't restart automatically even after 10+ minutes (I already made sure that global maintenance mode is set to none). I initially thought its a time sync issue, so I installed and enabled ntp on the hosts and engine. Hosts temporarily in "Non Operational" state after upgrade

Hi all, Had run updates tonight on my three oVirt hosts (3.6 hyperconverged) on on two of them, they went into “non Operational” state for a few minutes each before springing back to life… The synopsis was this: - Ran updates throughout the web Admin UI ...then I got the following series of messages via the “Events” tab in the UI: - Updates successfully ran - VDSM “command failed: Heartbeat exceeded” message - host is not responding message - "Failed to connect to hosted_storage" message - “The error message for connection localhost:/engine returned by VDSM was: Problem while trying to mount target” - "Host <name> reports about one of the Active Storage Domains as Problematic” - “Host <name> cannot access the Storage Domain(s) hosted_storage attached to the data center Default. Setting host state to Non-Operational.” - "Detected change in status of brick {…} of volume {…} from DOWN to UP.” (once for every brick on the host for every Gluster volume.) - "Host <name> was autorecovered.” - "Status of host <name> was set to Up." (BTW, it would be awesome if the UI’s Events log could be copied and pasted… Doesn’t work for me at least…) Duration of outage was ~3 mins per each affected host. Didn’t happen on the first host I upgraded, but did on the last two. I know I’m a little over the bleeding edge running hyperconverged on 3.6 :) but, should this behavior be expected? I have followed the setup on http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/serial-console-setup/ I am able to ssh to the hosted engine and select a VM. A VM with console enabled and permissions set gives a blank screen ( freezes ). So I checked serial-getty@.service Am I right this service should run on a host? When I check status, I get this: ... systemd[1]: *Dependency failed for Serial Getty on hvc0.* .. systemd[1]: *Job serial-getty(a)hvc0.service/start failed with result 'dependency'.* What needs to be done? When I restart the service it takes a long tine and looks like a timeout is triggered. Looking forward to use the serial console feature.

Two or more mount process running for engine volume

Hi All, I have hosted engine setup with glusterfs as my storage domain. when i move a storage domain to maintenance and activate it again i see that there are two glusterfs process running for every storage domain. First 2 hosts succeeded, but the 3rd one stuck at termination state "Installing Host hosted_engine_3. Stage: Termination.", then, 3 minutes later, "VDSM hosted_engine_3 command failed: Message timeout which can be caused by communication issues". Currently, the 3rd host status in web UI is stuck at "Installing". How can I proceed? Also understand the reason of this delay, as the NUC is a physical host with 32Gb of ram and SSD disks and should be quite fast... faster than a VM non my laptop where I had no problems in similar setup... As a last question how to clean up things in case I have to start from scratch. I can leave the situation as it is in the moment, so I can work on the live environment before power off.... Shared storage between DC

Hi, Is it possible to have a shared Storage domain between 2 Datacenter in oVirt? We do replicate a FC Volume between 2 datacenter using FC SAN storage technology and we have an oVirt cluster on each site defined in separate DCs. The idea behind this is to setup a DR site and also balance the load between each site. What happens if I do import a storage domain already active in one DC, will it break the Storage domain?
