Not that I am aware of. loopback-mounting nfs is considered unsafe due to locking issues, see: https://lwn.net/Articles/595652/ You can use iSCSI. Most people install it on more than one machine. For a single machine, usually virt-manager is enough. Of course you can use VMs with nested-kvm to virtualize more than one machine on a single one, if you mainly do this for testing/learning/etc. > It looks like everything is old or incomplete. Shutdown Problems on oVirt Node

Hi their I have currently a strange problem on a new oVirt 3.6 installation. At the moment a clean shutdown doesn't work, most of the time he reboots the system or hangs in the shutdown progress. I discovered this, when i tested our multiple UPS solution and send some test signals over ipmi to our server with ex. ipmipower -h 192.168.2.218 -u root -p password --soft . We also discovered that shutdown -h now , poweroff or init 0 had the same effect. On a clean CentOS installation, which is not included in our oVirt setup this works as expected, but on our ovirt-node this doesn't work. In the shutdown progress i see the following which tooks very long: > A stop job is running for Shared Storage Lease Manager (23s / 1min 47s) At the end i had then the following on my console screen: [ OK ] Reached target Shutdown Nothing more happens. no poweroff or something. I can wait more than three minutes and nothing happens. I also tried a clean re-install from the oVirt Administration WebUI but this doesn't have any effect on this issue. When i type "service sanlock stop" or "service vdsmd stop" in the server console and then do a poweroff , all works as expected. The shutdown is the also realy fast as expected. At the moment we think that the problem is on ovirt, vdsmd or on the sanlock settings for ovirt, because all settings on our site are on default settings. Currently Setup are two Intel Server (With RRM) with CentOS-7 (1511) and oVirt 3.6.3 and one Intel Server with OpenIndiana which provides Storage via NFS. Had someone a solution for this? is this perhaps a bug and shoul'd be reported? Greetings Roger Meier

Storage migration: Preallocation forced on destination

Hi, We're migrating an existing storage (glusterfs) to a new one (iSCSI). All disks on glusterfs are thin provisioned, but when migrating to iSCSI the following warning is shown: The following disks will become preallocated, and may consume considerably more space on the target: local-disk Why is that? Is there a way to migrate disks so they are thin provisioned on iSCSI as well? Thanks.

Howto Backup and Restore on new Server

Hello, i want to backup a view VMs, delete the old Server, install on same Hardware a new one and restore the VMs. I use oVirt as All-in-One. What is the best Way? Can i simply copy the full snapshot to an external usb-disk, or should i use a external backup domain for that.? And Restore simply copy the snapshot backup to the VM Domain or use the same backup domain to import the VMs? Thx

Hosted engine disk migration

I'm on oVirt 3.6 I'd like to migrate my hosted engine storage to another location and have a few questions: (a) what is the right syntax for glusterfs in /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf? (I'm currently on nfs3) (b) what is the right syntax for fibre channel? (c) where are instructions for how to migrate the actual disk files? (google was little help) (d) Can the hosted engine use the same (gluster/fibre) volume as my VM Images? (e) I get various "Cannot edit Virtual Machine. This VM is not managed by the engine." in the console for manipulating the HostedEngine. Is that expected? Has somebody tried to get API object with the constructor having parameters- URL and restapisession- by using java-sdk ? Here is the following syntax ? Api api =new Api(RestURL,restapisessionID) I have searched a lot but i didn't find anything. Somewhere I read that Ovirt has some issue on keeping restapisession. Is it correct ?

ovirt and CAS SSO

I'm trying to add CAS SSO to ovirt. For authn (authentication), org.ovirt.engineextensions.aaa.misc.http.AuthnExtension is OK, I put jboss behind an Apache with mod_auth_cas. Now I'm fighting with authz (authorization). CAS provides everything needed as header. So I don't need ldap or jdbc extensions. Is there anything done about that or do I need to write my own extension ? Is there some documentation about that ?

Impact of changing VLAN of ovirtmgmt in the Data Center?

Hi everyone, In Data Centers > (Name) > Networks section of the Ovirt GUI, network definitions include the VLAN IDs. In my case, the VLAN ID of ovirtmgmt has been empty (meaning VLAN 1) since I built it; it's always been wrong. My hypervisor hosts' ovirtmgmt bridges are actually in VLAN 20. An error message alerted me to this mismatch a few days ago. None of my production VMs are on VLAN 1, or VLAN 20, but I'd like to confirm if it's safe to change this. Can changing the VLAN ID of ovirtmgmt within Data Center > Networks impact VMs from other VLANs? I see no reason why it should be a problem. We just need some certainty on that point. Hi, I'm trying to deploy a 2nd host to my hosted-engine environment, but the 1st host doesn't have a root password - it only has a sudo account. I keep running into the following error when going through the "hosted-engine --deploy" configuration. [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Setup validation': wildcard resolved to multiple address So far, I haven't been able to figure out what I'm doing wrong. My best guess is that there is some issue with the FQDN that I used, but I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I've included the following line in /etc/hosts for the FQDN. 192.168.0.50 ovirt.domain.local I've also attached the output log, as well as the full output of me answering all the prompts. Any help would be appreciated, let me know if I need to include more information.

Know the console client IP from guest

From a windows guest (can be useful for linux guest as well), is it possible to get the IP of the spice client connected to console? I setup oVirt for a VDI. The users use thin clients that PXE boot using LTSP. I need the client IP to offer remote support via VNC. Now, I use epoptes as remote support tool, its an excellent peace of software but I need technicians from other branch of the company to be able to offer remote support to my users and they are all Windows guy ans don't want to connect to the LTSP server to start epoptes... They already use VNC to support Wyse type clients so I installed x11vnc on my clients chroot and setup it to start at boot. I know this is a security issue but this is the boss decision. Some client log to terminal servers using xfreerdp (LTSP clients boot directly to xfreerdp). In that case, everything is ok, we setup bginfo to print the client name and ip as they are windows environment variables. The problem is that many other clients boot to the oVirt user portal and users log to Windows 7 vm using Virt-Viewer and Spice. In bginfo, the only thing i can get is the IP of the Windows guest. It's ok, for most cases we can take control of the guest ant it do the trick but sometimes it's useful to vnc the thin itself. Thanks! Simon L

I see it allows Satelilte/Foreman but I know the new Satellite product is much different than Spacewalk as I believe Spacewalk is still technically Satellite 5 whereas Satellite 6 is an entire rewrite If Spacewalk can be used, what are some pre-reqs needed to get it working? el6 and el7 clusters and SPM

Hi I am looking to migrate several el6 rhev-h nodes to el7 rhev-h nodes. There are multiple clusters in the datacenter and it will take a while (several months) to have all the clusters in the data center migrated to el7. Is there be any potential issues to look out for with regards to having the SPM for this datacenter running on a el6 or a el7 node in this datacenter? Any cross compatability issues to look out for?
