Hi, I have tested iproute2: Test: ========== - Deployed Host (EL family) - put in maintenance - on host changed vdsm.conf to: [addresses] management_port = 54321 [vars] ssl = true net_configurator = iproute2 net_persistence = unified - put host up - Added the network (net25) -> Networks -> New -> Name: net25 [X] Enable VLAN tagging: 25 - On host added dummy interface: # ip link add name dummy_interface type dummy - Put host in maintenance/up to reload the new nic - Hosts tab -> Network interfaces -> setup hosts networks Added the network net25 to dummy interface [OK] - Added more networks (-> Networks -> New) and more dummy interface at host - Put host in maintenance/up to reload the new nic - Added bond via Hosts tab -> Network interfaces [X] Save network configuration so far ok, moved the host to maintenance and rebooted. Host is back with the interfaces but vdsm doesn't start (opened below bug). vdsm cannot start - iproute2: device ovirtmgmt already exists; can't create bridge with the same name https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1064530 -- Cheers Douglas

[Users] actual disk size of vm via api

Hi, I got a question regarding the reported actual disk size of a vm. you can obtain this value fine via api: https://your_engine/api/vms/{id}/disks/ however, if the vm is cloned from a template this disk size does not seem to show the actual size of the whole disk but instead the difference from the actual template size. is this a bug or a feature? I would like to obtain the "real" size. e.g. I have a template with 50GB (thin provisioned) the actual size of this template is 1,5 GB I clone a vm from this template, the actual size which gets reported via api is about 8 MB (stuff that changes from the template). +Ovirt users mailing list - might find this interesting. Quick background: IPA server with cross-forest trust to Windows domain. Authenticating to Linux clients with domain kerberos credentials. I'm hosting CentOS 6.5 as an ovirt guest, and have narrowed this ipa client slow login issue down to a backend storage cause. If I enable async writes to NFS the CentOS guest performs as my workstations virtualbox guests (Ubuntu 13.10/Fedora 20) do on login (quick logins). The client we are investigating is a CentOS 6.5 machine. I've also done the same test on a RHEL 6.5 machine with the same results. I've increased the logging level, log attached. I don't see the DC in the logs anywhere. I guess from an IPA perspective there is not much to be done, but I wanted to make sure this thread came to some conclusion for future readers. I suppose the only thing to question, is why ipa authentication would have any reliance on disk read/write speed to this extent? Hi, I tested following features on F19 (both engine and hosts): BZ1043473 oVirt Guest Agent for ubuntu - works without problems on 12.04 LTS and 13.04 BZ1043469 oVirt Guest Agent for OpenSUSE - works without problems on 13.1 BZ1031040 [RFE] RunOnce dialog can not set a vnc keymap itself - works fine, you can select VNC keymap in Run Once in similar way to Edit VM dialog BZ1042782 Fix Control-Alt-Delete functionality in console options - "Pass c-a-d" is no longer visible in Edit VM options, but pass c-a-d to VM using virt-viewer works fine Regards Martin Perina

[Users] Memory usage

Dear all, When we monitor one of our machines, we noticed that there was one vm that was constantly giving a error of memory usage. But when we took a look at it, there is actually nothing wrong with it. Now we looked furhter then that. Hi, I tested the following items during the test day and here are my results: 1. "reboot VM" functionality The related feature page is: http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Guest_Reboot The feature page mentions a policy selection checkbox which I was unable to find in the web admin UI at all. I checked the patches that implement the feature and did not see the check box implementation. The patches did show me that all I need to use the feature was to install the guest agent on the guest. So for my test I installed a fedora guest, and I installed the guest agent on the guest. After about a minute after starting the guest, the reboot button was enabled and pressing it started the reboot sequence on the guest. I had a console open on the guest and it informed me that the admin had started the reboot process and the guest would be rebooted in a minute. I did not find a way to change the time it took for the reboot to happen. I did the same test with the REST api, with the same result. The reboot was scheduled for a minute after I issued the command. I did not find a way to change the time with the REST api either. I am guessing that is a future feature. 2. Fix Control-Alt-Delete functionality in console options I had trouble getting spice to work in my test setup, but no issues with VNC. So I tested VNC. I checked the VM console options to make sure that 'Map ctrl-alt-del shortcut to ctrl+alt+end' was checked. Then I connected to a running VM with VNC. I pressed ctrl-+alt+end expected it to issue a ctrl-alt-del to the guest. Nothing happened. I pressed ctrl-alt-del and it properly issued ctrl-alt-del to the guest. I made sure there was no issue with my client by using the menu to issue a ctrl-alt-del to the guest which also resulted in the proper action on the guest. I opened a bug for this: /https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1057763/[1] I did this test on my Fedora machine, and the description mentions that certain OSes capture the ctrl-alt-del before sending it to the guest, Fedora is not one of those OSes, so maybe my test was not valid? 3. Show name of the template in General tab for a VM if the VM is deployed from template via clone allocation. This is a very straight forward test. I created a template from a VM. I named the template. Overall I had issues getting engine installed due to the shmmax issue reported in other threads, and then I had a really hard time adding new hosts from a blank fedora minimum install. I was successful one out of three attempts, which I feel was probably an yum repository issue as I was getting conflicting python-cpopen issues causing VDSM to not start. Hi, I tested $subject, I have to say i don't know much about networks / neutron, so maybe some of the issues i encountered are just my fault.. i used pre-configured neutron server (thanks Mike!) and the beta2 for ovirt-engine, i used the wiki to configure it: http://www.ovirt.org/Overlay_Networks_with_Neutron_Integration these are the issues i've seen: 1. add provider is hidden, since 'system' node in the tree is collapsed by default, i couldn't find it, the way to add provider should at least be documented in the neutron integration wiki, i had to ask around to find it.. 2. add provider dialog: wrong tab indexing - after entering name, i clicked 'tab' to enter description, but the focus moved to the 'cancel' button [bug 1064240] this is pretty minor, but i think its basic usage issue, and probably easy fix. 3. selecting 'Subnet' sub-tab of the imported external network doest show anything, and creates an error in the engine log [bug 1064231] Other than that, i was able to create and remove the external network with no issues, we might need a better (maybe step-by-step?) documentation on configuring this, as it was not trivial (there are manual steps need to be done on the hosts..) or, even better, automating everything needed on the host side into host-deploy. Hi, In the 3.4 ovirt-test-day-2 I've tested the all-in-one feature. I installed the all-in-one setup on a vm. The installation ended almost successfully, except of the vdsm service, where the the host didn't become operational due to lack of support in clusterLevel >= 3.4: Feb 11 15:51:52 localhost vdsm root ERROR VIR_MIGRATE_ABORT_ON_ERROR not found in libvirt, support for clusterLevel >= 3.4 is disabled. For Fedora 19 users, please consider upgrading libvirt from the virt-preview repository Once I created a new 3.3 DC and configured a local storage, the local host become operational and I was able to create a vm and to run it. Hi users, I'm not an oVirt user (yet), but while working on another project, I stumbled across: https://github.com/oVirt/jasperreports-server-rpm And found the spec file and patches which built an RPM for packaging of the JasperReports Server WAR installation. This is presumably a component of oVirt, but I'm wondering whether there's anything unique about the package, or whether it's suitable to be reused in a standard Jasper deployment. Good Morning Everyone, I installed the Spice guest tools on my windows machine and now everything is inverted. I am unable to use the machine anymore. The biggest issue was the mouse not syncing up. That issue was solved after installing the tools, however the inverted screen kind of makes that fix pointless. Is there a fix to this? Along with that, I haven't noticed it on a Windows 2008 R2 server yet, however, I cannot use Ctl+Alt+Delete in Spice HTML5 to test it. Thank you, Neil

Hi all, I was testing this feature today and would like to summarize my findings; 1. Feature page http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Spice_Proxy Quite informative. Nevertheless things we should improve: - Please add a contact person in case of question / issues (feature owner?). - Detail design? Nothing mentioned with regards to the implementation. This could be in a separate page, but in such a case I'd add a link to that page. - Missing specific examples. ie- supported protocols: engine-config -s SpiceProxyDefault=http://my-ip:8080 * Did you know that http is a default if no scheme stated? All the above should make this cool feature more easy to use by non-developers. 2. Test cases - System level (using engine-config) - Cluster level - VM-Pool level For each of the above I configured a proxy, and on the proxy machine used: "nc -l 8080" to capture the traffic. In all cases things worked quite nicely. I saw incoming connection request which is what I expected for. 3. All-in-all: We have the functionality working which is the important part. Going forward we should try to improve some of the things I mentioned above. Nice work, Doron P.S.
