So, after many frustrating weekends of trying to upgrade ovirt from 3.1, I have come to the conclustion that it would just be best to export all of our VM's and Import them once I have redone the entire installation with FC19 and ovirt 3.3. Is there a way to export the entire domain easily? Or to bring the entire domain into a new install of the engine? Exporting a single VM takes a very long while. It would take a couple of days to export all of our VM's (33 total vm's using 1.017 TB of data) and then reimport them using the normal means of exporting the machines off then on to the export domain, load the new engine server then import them all back in. Any tips or tricks would be welcome. Christian FYI, I ran into just about every single bug that people had when upgrading from 3.1 to 3.2 and a few more. I can't spend any more time troubleshooting the upgrade process. If we can't do the export->import easily or migrate the current storage domain we will probably have to get rid of ovirt and move to another solution. -- --------------------------------------------------------------- This email, along with any attachments, is confidential. Hi, we have an test environment with ovirt 3.3 installed on various hardware nodes. The management node is installed on an centos 6.4 x64 minimal. The issue we are running into is, that some ovirt component keeps resetting the iptables firewall configuration, denying access to ports 80 and 443, which results in the web interface being not accessible. We do know that the engine-setup initially configures the firewall, but through which scripts does iptables get configured? Are there some database entries for this? If you need any logfiles for this, please let me know. Currently we have disabled iptables, as it's just an test environment. We read about some "vdsm bootstrap script" (e.g. BZ 893680), may this be related? However we didn't find out where this scripts resides. Also vvyazmin(a)redhat.com posted in this BZ: "not a bug". I don't see why you shouldn't be able to ping the hypervisor in the management lan? this is useful for monitoring and network debugging. ICMP is no danger at all. Kind regards Sven Kieske

[Users] Could not add iscsi domain to data-center

Hi all, I am using ovirt 3.3 on Centos6. Things were running fine untill I had nfs as the deata storage for my data center. Now I have created a new data center of type iscsi, but I am not able to add the iscsi storage to this Datacenter. This is all what i did. 1>I created a new datacenter of type iscsi 2>configured a cluster to this datacenter 3>moved my host to this cluster. 4>Now navigated to the storage tab 5>Clicked on new domain 6>selected data/iscsi 7>discovered the iscsi iqn but when I login to that iqn the login is not successful. Hi guyz, I have setup my ovirt engine with NFS as datacenter storage, so the default datacenter has nfs storage. Now have created a test datacenter inside ovirt with Type = iscsi. When I try to add new storage domain to this datacenter, I am able to discover the Lun but could not log in. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Saurabh

The 2 disappeared VMs have been imported into oVirt using virt-v2v. The 3rd one that's now missing a disk volume was not, but I have been playing with storage migration in the past. Yesterday's engine.log seems to suggest, that all of these tasks (importing the 2 VMs and trying to move a volume) have been restarted immediately after restarting Engine. After failure, the VMs and volume were removed. It seems to fit the above description of the bug. So... What can I do to prevent this from happening again? Should I periodically check the 'async_tasks' table for anomalies? Is there a bugfix I can apply, or should I wait for a new release of oVirt? If the latter, when is that expected to happen? Is it possible to add an ovirt-guest-agent-1.0.8-el6.rpm to the ovirt 3.2 repository? I'm asking because I tried the ovirt-guest-agent installation on a VM by slightly modifying the repo file to point to the 3.3 directory and the dependencies that were used were only from epel. Regards, Joop

Hi, I have recently set up an oVirt environment, I think in a pretty standard fashion, with engine 3.3 on one host, one oVirt host on a physical machine, both running CentOS 6.4, using NFS for all storage domains. Today I was playing around with snapshots, when I noticed that the Snapshots panel didn't show any of the snapshots I created, not even the 'Current - Active VM' snapshot that all VMs have. Not sure what to do, I decided to restart the ovirt-engine process. When I logged back on to the administrator panel, I was shocked to see 2 of my 4 VMs completely missing from the inventory. I haven't been able to find back a single trace of either machine, neither in the portal nor on disk. It seems like they never existed. The storage of both VMs seems to be erased from the data domain. A 3rd VM is down and refuses to start: "Exit message: Volume 337a410f-1598-4a7f-9afd-c0160c329563 is corrupted or missing." and in vdsm.log on the host: OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/rhev/data-center/5849b030-626e-47cb-ad90-3ce782d831b3/d523a48d-7a34-4bb0-9d48-2092934af816/images/e803ad34-94e5-4180-b26f-7271bfca5923/337a410f-1598-4a7f-9afd-c0160c329563' So it seems something is seriously f*cked up. Now what? Any ideas what may have caused this? And more importantly, how do I prevent something like this from happening again? Perhaps a needless addition, but I am very scared to host anything remotely important on oVirt now. Regards, Martijn.

Hello, I upgraded our installation of oVirt from 3.2 to 3.3, and one of the features I was looking forward to was the ability to resize VM disk. However, it appears that the feature is still not available to me. I selected the "Virtual Machines" tab, selected a VM, selected the "Disks" sub-tab, and selected a disk; but the "Edit" button is grayed out. The disk status is "OK" and the VM status is "Up". Help is appreciated.

you don't have to reconfigure engine to create iscsi pool. you can create multiple pools, the only limitation is that you will need a host for the each of the DCs. but you can move one host from one DC to another... so if you have 2 hosts just create a new DC and move one of the hosts there. I think that the direct lun is only for iscsi and fiber but I can give you a 100% certainty answer on Monday. I don't think its supported for NFS... I can check for you on Monday for sure. [Users] 500 Internal Server Error when provisioning via Foreman (using nightly build)

All, I'm using oVirt 3.4.0-0.2.master.20130925104201.git8ab6304.el6 on CentOS 6.4 as a compute resource for Foreman (1.2.2, also running on CentOS 6.4). When I attempt to provision a machine, I get a 500 server error. Logs are posted below: https://gist.github.com/andrew-timmes/d41f465d2c25af5905c8 It looks similar to the issue that Andrew Lau reported in August ( http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2013-August/015693.html) but I'm still seeing the issue in the nightly build. Dear oVirt users. I'm trying to setup oVirt 3.3 using an OpenStack Neutron existing service as network provider. It works pretty well: I can use the networks defined in Neutron, import them and when I launch VM instances from oVirt they get an internal-IP address from Neutron. A can also associate a floating IP to the Neutron port and get inbound connectivity for the virtual machine. The problem is that if I shutdown the VM (both from inside the VM itself and from the oVirt WEB GUI) the association port/internal-IP/floating-IP is lost and when the VM is booted again It will get a different internal-IP on a different port and I have to manually re-associate the floating-IP. Is there a way to keep the IP addresses when the VM is simply shutted down and not deleted? This is the behavior when using OpenStack: if I poweroff the VM, the IPs are kept for the future. Moreover: can you confirm that in oVirt 3.3 there is still no support for the Neutron security rules? Thank you very much Best Regards Riccardo

Hello, I'm testing oVirt 3.3 with GlusterFS libgfapi back-end. I'm using a node for engine and one for VDSM. From the VMs I'm mounting a second GlusterFS volume on a third storage server. I'm experiencing very bad transfer rates (38MB/s) writing from a client to a VM on the mounted GlusterFS. On the other hand, from the VM itself I can move a big file from the root vda (libgfapi) to the mounted GlusterFS at 70MB/s. I can't really figure out where the bottleneck could be. [Users] Gluster NFS Replicate bricks different size

I've mounted a gluster 1x2 replica through NFS in oVirt. The NFS share holds the qcow images of the VMs. I recently nuked a whole replica brick in an 1x2 array (for numerous other reasons including split-brain), the brick self healed and restored back to the same state as its partner. 4 days later, they've become inbalanced. The direct `du` of the /brick are showing different sizes by around 20GB. I can see at brick level how some images are not the same size. I don't think this is normal, but I can't see anything to point what could be the issue. gluster volume heal STORAGE info gluster volume heal STORAGE info split-brain Shows no issues. Hi guys, I am running ovirt with NFS as storage pool. Everything is working quite fine for me. The only problem is I could not add the a new iscsi disk in Disk tab. When I go to the Disk tab there is an option of adding new disk from internal storage and another option is add External (Direct Lun). When I opt for the External (Direct LUN), I am able to discover the Lun but could not log in to that lun using the ovirt web console. Whereas when I try to login to that lun using the isciadm in command line I am able to login. Any help??
