[Users] F18 iSCSI/FC and latest systemd/udev

While not an actual problem with oVirt, the latest systemd/udev packages for F18 (197-1) break permissions on LVM volumes and stop vdsm/qemu/etc from accessing them. I just downgraded them and everything seems OK but I thought I'd let people know (easier to just avoid rather than repair :) ). There's a bugzilla for it from a week or two ago but since 3.2 came out I figured a lot more people might be installing it on new F18 installations with all the updates and running into problems.

[Users] Move single vmdk (or else) disk into oVirt/RHEV

Hi, I find it hard to find any information about the way I have to follow to convert/import a vmdk/qcow/raw/etc... single disk into an oVirt disks list. I know how to use virt-v2v to import complete VMs (disk AND config), but don't know how to handle a single data disk. Regards, -- Nicolas Ecarnot

[Users] [Best practice] NFS export domain served by oVirt manager?

Hi, Here is a simple question about what is the best practice about the location of a NFS export domain. At present, I'm using a server as the oVirt manager, and this server is also a NFS server for the ISO storage domain. I'm using another server to serve an NFS export domain, but I'm thinking of changing that. Is there any advice against the decision to host the export domain NFS on the same server as the manager? Hi, I've just set up a new oVirt installation with two nodes. Both of the nodes have had 'firewalld' disabled. When I went to test VM migration, it failed, apparently due to this (from the vdsm log on the source node): error : virNetClientProgramDispatchError:174 : Error while building firewall: Some rules could not be created for interface vnet0: Failure to execute command '$EBT -t nat -N libvirt-J-vnet0' : 'DBusException org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.fedoraproject.FirewallD1 was not provided by any .service filesCouldn't connect to FirewallD, it's probably not running.'. Hi, For setting up a firewall in a VM I would like to add 2 of my 4 nics directly to a VM. In my previous setup I thought I have done that, but at the moment I cannot figure this out and cannot find the docs to accomplish this. I would like to dedicate those 2 nics to my firewall VM's to avoid sharing them using a network per accident to other VM's. How is this be done at the moment ? Cheers, Matt

I'm setting up an oVirt environment at $WORK and trying to decide where to locate the ovirt-engine. Is it better practice to put it on a separate computer from the nodes? If I co-locate it on a node machine, then I have to worry about it being unavailable if that node is down. How much of an issue is that likely to be? Thanks, --[Lance]

Hi, Currently the ovirt-shell displays command results using a pager. It does this even when running non-interactively (ie. input via pipe) which is broken. As a workaround, I discovered the option 'cli:autopage = False' should be placed in my .ovirtshellrc file. This works great the first time, but then it seems ovirt-shell is overwriting this file and dumping my new setting. Ever since this change: http://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/11078/ The webadmin and userportal UI no longer displays nor works correctly within Internet Explorer 8 or 9. Under IE 8 or 9 the UI is pretty much an usable garbled mess. Everything looks and works fine under Chrome and Firefox. Unfortunately Internet Exploder is a necessary evil for windows users to be able to get at SPICE consoles. (No spice plugin/support for Firefox/Chrome yet...) - DHC

I have some existing NFS Storage domains that I was not paying attention and attached without doing any advanced parameters in RHEV 3.1 Now the NFS Advanced Parameters box is greyed out. So now that I have attached these domains I cannot change the advanced nfs option such as change it to Nfs4 from 3 or rsize and wsize? Maybe if I was using upstream oVirt instead of Rhev 3.1 I would be able to make the changes in vdsm.conf and they would be honored? -- Chris Noffsinger

Let me know if I had better to post to spice-devel.... I'm testing oVirt 3.2 beta user portal. One client boots from a usb stick running SLAX 32bit in persistent mode with kernel 3.6.9. It is a derivative from slackware 14 where I compiled and persistently installed spice-protocol-0.12.2-noarch-1 xf86-video-qxl-0.1.0-i486-1 celt051-0.5.1.3-i486-1 pyparsing-1.5.6-i486-1 spice-0.12.0-i486-1 vala-0.17.6-i486-1 gtk-vnc-0.5.1-i486-2 virt-viewer-0.5.4-i486-1 xulrunner-15.0.1-i486-1 jdk-7u13-i586-1 spice-xpi-2.8-i486-1 so far so good. I can start firefox 17.0.1 and connect to user portal The test VM is Windows XP There was previously a session from another client pc with full screen resolution of 1366x768. Now this other client PC has a max resolution of 1024x768 I notice that it fails to start in full screen (I get the typical window where you see that the screen is bigger than the current physical) and also the Shift+F11 shortcut doesn't get any effect or error. If inside the vm I now set 1024x768 it adjusts and I can set full screen with Shift+F11 and I now can disconnect and reconnect successfully in fullscreen option. Then I close spice window and sign out from user portal (leaving the VM at its logged in screen) If now I connect again to the user portal from the 1366x768 capable client, that is Fedora 17 with firefox 18.0 and spice-gtk-python-0.12-5.fc17.x86_64 spice-xpi-2.8-2.fc17.x86_64 spice-server-0.10.1-5.fc17.x86_64 spice-gtk-tools-0.12-5.fc17.x86_64 spice-client-0.10.1-5.fc17.x86_64 spice-vdagent-0.10.1-1.fc17.x86_64 spice-gtk-0.12-5.fc17.x86_64 spice-glib-0.12-5.fc17.x86_64 spice-gtk3-0.12-5.fc17.x86_64 I connect in full screen mode and I see the Windows XP session just starts in 1024x768 (as I left it) and suddenly adjusts to the 1366x768 capable resolution Any hint on why the fiirst auto-adjust didn't work? - different spice version? - perhaps only possible to up scale but not down scale? - other? This will address situation with one user potentially connecting to the same VM in full screen mode but using different clients and so with possible different video resolutions A work around could be to power off the vm each time but it is not desirable... Also, in Fedora I get the small box at top middle of the screen where I can exit full screen for my vm. Instead in slax I have not it. WHat is the component providing that box? [Users] How do Networks and Vlan-tagging work in oVirt ?

I'm struggeling setting up my network in oVirt at the moment as I would like to seperate specific VM's from other devices/clients in my network. I have decent setup switching network using Vlans, this is also the fact for ovirt and the storage nodes where teh ports are seperated between storage and management. Because I want to manage which client can acces which VM I need Vlan tagging. The question is where are we going to do this, on the VM itself or on the network I attach the VM's Nic to. Because of the lacking documentation at this point it's not clear, so I would like to figure out and maybe change the wiki there. I also cannot understand why I can set an IP to a network and only the subnet where I also can set DHCP which puts also the gateway. I'm not able to set None or DHCP and can only add a network with IP, but what IP and why ? Or just a 192.16.x.0 with a 255.255.255.0 subnet ? I hope someone can clear this a little bit more out. Now I'm thinking on the possibility of a host malfunction and my question is: is there automatic migration of the VMs that are running on this host to the other host? Alex [DF] Power management needed so the engine will be able to fence the malfunctioned host, and only then the VM will auto-migrate. Hello, connecting to ovirt 3.2 beta from F17 with firefox-18.0-1.fc17.x86_64 I receive This Browser version isn't optimal for displaying the application graphics (refer to Documentation for details) How is the check made to show or not the warning? What is the current status of supported browsers? I remember someone posting a page with browser support but I'm unable to find it right now... I remember also on December the thread [Users] Using the chrome/chromium browser with oVirt Did it go ahead with chrome spice-xpi patches applied and so now chrome usable in f17 / f18 (btw on my f17 I have google-chrome-stable-24.0.1312.69-180721.x86_64 if needed for testing)? Dear All, I am new in this forum. I have installed Ovirt 3.1 successfully. As per I have done the following tasks: 1. Adding Data Center. 2. Adding Storage 3. Adding ISO Domain. (Name of ISO Domain is cloud12) 4. Uploaded ISO using the command (engine-iso-uploader upload -i cloud12 Centos_6.3_64bit.iso) 5. Adding HOST. 6. Create VM (New Server & Desktop) with VNC console. But when I view the VNC console..It shows nothing but a Black Window. And I see none remarkable error @ tail -f /var/log/ovirt/ovirt-engine/engine.log Only the following things: * "No one is waiting for resource 'Storage.fce396f2-72cb-11e2-acc2-000c29a7b590"* In fact I have been hanging in this place for 3 to 4 days. It would be appreciable if you please help me out from this stuck situation.
