Why those services are not logged ? How am I supposed to debug without any = information ? Is it normal that an enabled service don't log at all ? Any help would be appreciated. Hi, I believe that issue you're experience caused by connecting to ssl secured site using http protocol [1], please change protocol to 'https' in rhevm_uri and use ssl port accordingly, [1] in this mode, server reply with empty string instead of actual data. [Users] Installing Host - action is taking longer than allowed by configuration

Hi I Installed ovirt 3.1 all in one package under centos 6.3 . but when i trying to install localhost as virtualization node (I have one server with local storage) i got a error: The required action is taking longer than allowed by configuration. I know the reason for it. i have very slow connection. I think ovirt clean yum metadata and try to get metadata again. but my internet connection is very slow (about 64Kb/s) and takes a lot of time to finish. how can i increase the allowed time by configuration or some change on postgresql database.? The problems I run into now: - After node installation the network interfaces are both disabled. I had to login the node with the admin login and enable my network interfaces This is a bit cumbersome as I would expect the NIC's to be enabled with dhcp so I don't have to login each machine - We have Intel Xenon E5520 Nehalem based cpu's in these local storage nodes. These are still recognized as the Conroe family. Even though BZ#737104 was supposed to have been fixed. Hi, I installed ovirt 3.1 from dre repo on centos 6 using allinone plugin from that repo it timed-out during adding local host when I logged into web management, I can see on host's tab that local_host failed to be installed and NFS ISO domain (which actually a local folder) was failed to be mounted. Hello all, oVirt web interface doesn't write host's hostname in VNC connection info dialog. It writes only IP address. Is it possible to configure this somewhere? I remember the dialog wrote FQDN but it doesn't write it now, not sure how it got broken. Currently the connection dialog looks like this: ---- Please use your VNC client to connect to this VM. Use the following parameters: IP:Port: 192.168.30.140:5902 Password: WxGYrAg7wjXF (note: this password is valid for 120 seconds) ---- However I would like to configure it to write this: ---- Please use your VNC client to connect to this VM. [Users] Cannot add another host to "all-in-one" datacenter

Hello all, I installed an oVirt datacenter via "all-in-one" plugin, which means everything currently runs on one machine. I would like to add another host to this datacenter, it has it's own storage for virtual machine images, but oVirt refuses to add it with error "Cannot add more than one Host to "Local Storage" Data Center". Is it possible to configure this somewhere and add the host to the local_datacenter? Thank you in advance for response. Regards, Adam

Damiano, Thanks a lot for your answer. I just got vdsm compiled and installed on fresh FC17 (installed with live cd), used your 3.4.9 FC16 kernel. Yes, now, engine can add it as host, great. But engine still can't add NFS domain. Any idea what is happening? Hello, I have a VM that has a 30 GB thin provisioned hard disk, but when I make an export from the GUI the process allocates 30 GB instead of the 6 GB that the disk is using now. This could be something that I have wrong or a bug ? I have installed oVirt 3.1 under CentOS 6.3 (dre repo). Also, is there any way to upgrade qemu to have the possibility of make live snapshots and exports ?! Thanks. Regards.- -- AGD

Hi guys, I've read the following regarding upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1... "Due to the nature of this upgrade, we DO NOT recommend it, users are advised to do a 3.1 clean installation, and to import all VM's and template into the new installation." I'm running a live ovirt-engine(very early 3.1 release with no upgrade path) system with 3 VM's and I'd like to do the recommended -- "clean installation and import all VM's and template", but I'd like to know if there are any detailed guides on how to do this? I also have an unused server that I can use as a spare host that I can add into my clean engine install to get the VDSM onto the latest version as well, but how do you go about exporting and importing the VM's and the template? I am working on a live system and downtime needs to be limited, not sure if this is the correct procedure? Prepare old engine: 1.) Create a export storage domain 2.) Suspend each VM and export (presume suspending is enough and they don't need to be shutdown?) 3.) Detach export storage domain Prepare new engine machine: 1.) Install new ovirt-engine 2.) "Restore previous keystore and preserve .sh scripts" presume this is how the configs and DB are restored? 3.) Log into ovirt as admin and add only the spare host (to ensure that VDSM 4.10 is used, because I'm currently using VDSM 4.9) 4.) Attach export storage domain 5.) Import VM's all running on new "spare" host Upgrade old VDSM hosts: 1.) Remove VDSM 4.9 on old hosts(2 of them)? 2.) Add/install the new hosts from inside webadmin to get the old hosts up to VDSM 4.10? I'll gladly document the steps in detail if there is no detailed guide already for this. [Users] Problem with creating a glusterfs volume

So I have a problem creating glusterfs volumes. Here is the install: 1. Ovirt 3.1 2. 4 Nodes are Fedora 17 with kernel 3.3.4 - 5.fc17.x86_64 3. 4 nodes peer joined and running 4. 4 nodes added as hosts to ovirt 5. created a directory on each node this path /data 6. chmod 36.36 -R /data all nodes 7. went back to ovirt and created a distributed/replicated volume and added the 4 nodes with brick path of /data I received this error: Creation of Gluster Volume maingfs1 failed. I went and looked at the vdsm logs on the nodes and the ovirt server which did not say much. Where else should I look? [Users] ovirt-engine service restart with running virtual machines?

Hello all, I deployed oVirt as management platform for virtual machines in one datacenter and now I'm trying to get it working with M$ ActiveDirectory. The oVirt engine runs on the same physical machine as host and there are running virtual machines. I successfully run "engine-manage-domains -action=add ...": and it wrote this: ... Successfully added domain XXXX. oVirt Engine restart is required in order for the changes to take place (service ovirt-engine restart). Manage Domains completed successfully ... Since there are running virtual machines on the host with the engine, I would like to know if it is possible to restart ovirt-engine without shutting down virtual machines and/or putting the host into maintenance mode. Next question is if it is possible to restart ovirt-engine without affecting other running hosts with VMs in the same datacenter which engine maintains. Thank you in advance for the reply. Hi All, Thanks for all your responses. 1/ we are using FC setup and not iSCSI. SO using SCSI is not an option for us right now. 2/ Yes you are correct NPIV will give us VHBA , but is it supported on guests as of now , both in case of RHEL6.2+ KVM and RHEV 3.0 ? If they have VHBA support then pass through helps me reach the LUNs and have SCSI PR working. 3/ Also does RHEV 3.0 support direct LUN access ? What I got to read from redhat docs is as follows. latest "BETA" release of RHEV 3.1 seems to be only having direct LUN access. http://www.redhat.com/about/news/archive/2012/8/red-hat-delivers-first-beta… New virtual machine storage features including hotplug support and direct LUN access SO I guess only option I have os to wait for RHEV 3.1 ? I don't think this is an oVirt discussion, but I can respond anyway, since the storage part of oVirt, imho, is a bit after in development, or has a strategy I don't really understand, perhaps. Maybe oVirt storage development strategy is hard tied to gluster? You don't tell us about the storage backend you got? If you got FC you can create an NPIV on the RHEL 6.2 host. I don't think(unsupported so far...) you can create NPIV on oVirt node or RHEL-V node, but I'm not sure about the latter... NPIV will give you the raw LUN directly to a VHBA, but I am not sure the oVirt/KVM VM can use it the VHBA...? Or as Itamar writes, you can always use iScsi.... Hey All, I know this has been brought up before but I am using ovirt-node-iso-2.5.0-2.0.fc17.iso I have added this node and have brought up fiber channel main storage on it. I for the life of me can not add an nfs ISO or a Export domain. It is not running a 3.5 kernel and I have mounted these on another node running fc17. This makes no sense. There is no error while adding an import domain ISO or Export domain the spinning wheel stays spinning. I have left it for a full day and still spinning.
