[Users] Help on oVirt basic question

Hi Team, I am very new to the Ovirt. I am trying to install the ovirt-engine into one of my vm with the below spec. 1. 2GB Mem 2. 2 CPU 3. 1 NIC 4. 20GB storage 5. Centos 5.5 32bit I am following the http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/OVirt#Installing_oVirt_Engine_Core installation documentation. I am tryingto meet all the software dependencies throught the source tarball. I installed the maven, postgresql and jboss-as through tar ball. But, when i am trying to compile the webadmin and user portal using the "mvn -e -DskipTests=true clean install -Pgwt-admin,gwt-user" command it fails at the time of web-admin level. As per my under standings the ovir-engine is a java based jboss applicaiton it would not be an issue with the os version. Please help me to understand. Regards, Arumon

Dear All, I installed ovirt on centos 6 and able to configure it, and create guest etc. But the problem is I can't start my guest. I am accessing ovirt admin interface from my ubuntu machine and running firefox here. I tried it from fedora with spice plugin installed in firefox as well, but no luck. I can kind of guess why this hap= pened. But then the question is what if I had an default route through the = breth0 and now is gone? In other words, installing a host can screw up the = networking on the node. I can always manually add the new default route ba= ck but is not a desired solution. How do I get around this problem? [Users] having problem with a storage node

I am using openfiler for my baremetal storage node. It is an NFS share all permissions are right. I currently have a master data node setup the same way and working fine. I was trying to use this data NFS as another storage node to create virtual disks on to run vms. I can attach fine and create disks fine but cannot run a vm. Here is the error: VM fs1 is down. the docs imply that the virtio and guest tools isos should be installed in the premade iso storage area, but nothing was setup on my install. furthermore the files that should be in /usr/share are not there either. is this something that isn't in ovirt, but only in rhev? or did something mess up in my install?

I have a pretty new ovirt/vsdm-combined installation on a Fedora 16 host. It was running okay, and then I applied a bunch of Fedora patches, and rebooted the box. Now, ovirt shows my data center as "non-responsive". What might be wrong? What can I look at to get more information?

i've already found the info on the list about the "global name 'disk' not defined" error and i've tried both an iso from the jenkins url listed, as well as creating my own git area using the 2.2.3 tagged code and making the one line change to fix that python error. but neither of those images work either. i get a generic "ovirt node hypervisor installation failed" message. i've poked around the log viewers and at the end i see it complaining that the gpt partition label has no bios bootable partition, but it isn't clear if that is really the issue. i'm wondering if there might be more cciss driver issues. i haven't dug into the source to figure out the root pw so i could more easily look at the log files or export them. can someone enlighten me with that more quickly than i can find it? what is the best procedure to follow to try and get to the bottom of issues like this? might i be better off installing a regular os and then installing the vdsm package?

Hi, My ovirt-engine was setup on a vm host with ip:xxx.xxx.xxx.112. And I am trying to create a new domain with ovirt-engine UI by the "Storage"--> "New Domain". And the following error happened. However I can mount the xxx.xxx.xxx.110:/data by "mount -t nfs xxx.xxx.xxx.110:/data /mnt" manually in the ovirt-engine host, also a new file can be created under the mounted directory with "touch xx". It looks to me that there is no permission problem when I access the remote nfs path manually. Is there any way to remove the iSCSI dependency? I am working to build a shared NFS root system with 40 boxes and am using only NFS. iSCSI requires remount-rootfs.service and that fails with read only root. -Nathan

I must have not set the domain type to "admin". I re-created it as an export domain. When I created my VM's disks, before posing my original question, I did specify which of my (accidentally) two data domain I wanted the disk to go, but it did NOT go there. [Users] oVirt/RHEV fencing; a single point of failure

Hello, I was worried about the high availability approach taken by RHEV/oVirt. I had read the thread titled "Some thoughts on enhancing High Availability in oVirt" but couldn't help but feel that oVirt is missing basic HA while it's developers are considering adding (and in my opinion unneeded) complexity with service monitoring. It all comes down to fencing. Picture this: 3 HP hypervisors running RHEV/oVirt with iLO fencing. Say hypervisor A runs 10 VMs, all of which are set to be highly available. Now suppose that hypervisor A has a power failure or an iLO failure (I've seen it happen more than once with a batch of HP DL380 G6s). Because RHEV would not be able to fence the hypervisor as it's iLO is unresponsive; those 10 HA VMs that were halted are NOT moved to other hypervisors automatically. I suggest that oVirt concentrates on having support for multiple fencing devices as a development priority. SCSI persistent reservation based fencing would be an ideal secondary, if not primary, fencing device; it would be easy to set up for users as SANs generally support it and is proven to work well, as seen on Red Hat clusters. I have brought up this point about fencing being a single point of failure in RHEV with a Red Hat employee (Mark Wagner) during the RHEV virtual event; but he said that it is not. I don't see how it isn't; one single loose iLO cable and the VMs are stuck until there is manual intervention. Any thoughts? -xrx
