Hello, Apperently, VNC with TLS enabled is the default. At the very least I don't remember ever enabling it. Attempting to disable it as a quick test, by altering /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf and setting vlc_tls=0 fixes it. So I guess, I'll need to disable it at the cluster level for a permanent fix. (And then reinstall the hosts....) After seeing the previous reply, I figured that the "direct connection to the VM host" meant the VNC connection would be using TLS. SPICE "Just Works(TM)" with TLS enabled, but for VNC it requires a TLS cert to be installed on the ovirt host servers. And of course, the default is the internal engine CA. With no easy way to override it. (I.e. The new cert config won't survive a host reinstall / upgrade.) Which defeats the entire purpose of having a third party CA for end- user connections. I guess we'll have to disable this method of VM console access for now, and rely on noVNC until the cert issue gets fixed. I'm not sure that the user mailing list is the place for feature requests, but just in case and to avoid criticizing without offering a solution, I would love some mechanism in the web interface to upload a new third party CA cert for the hosts to use with end-user requests. (VNC, image io proxy, cockpit, etc.) The internal engine CA could even be used to secure those cert updates. (As the engine itself could prompt the hosts to install the new cert via VDSM or something. Even better that method wouldn't require a host reinstall to finish.) That would simplify managment and renewal of the certs. As the operation could be delegated / restricted to users with a specific permission, (like with the VM permissions), and prevent us from needing to manually configure things in a text file. (The engine host could use this also.) There is no 'admin' in users table

Hi, i have trouble in 'ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc' I'm following 'III. Configuration of a new custom aaa-jdbc profile' part in README.admin (https://github.com/jihwahn1018/ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-jdbc/blob/master/…) when i try to login the webadmin page, i can't login becauser there is no 'admin' in custom database. how can i solve it? Is vulnerable log4j package necessary in my ovirt repo?

Hello, I found that the vulnerable log4j-2.13.0-1 package is in oVirt repository, but not installed even after the oVirt setup. So, I want to remove that package from my private oVirt repository if it's not necessary. but I'm not sure what will happen by doing so. Is there any side effects?

Questions about VDSM communication protocol

Hello, 1. I know vdsm communication adopted rpc over "stomp" and i'm wondering if it's due to use of the message broker or any other purpose. 2. according to https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/jsonrpc.html, vdsm has the final plan to completely separate msg broker. Is it still valid and under development? 3. if so, why is vdsm trying to use msg broker? because it seems enough even without msg broker. thanks,

After update nodectl reports host as degraded

Hi all, I've got this minor issue a couple of times so far after updating Ovirt node hosts from the UI. The update is done corrctly but after the final reboot I have to login via ssh and manually fix the issue with these commands: [root@host01 ~]# semodule -i /usr/share/selinux/packages/ovirt-vmconsole/ovirt_vmconsole.pp [root@host01 ~]# vdsm-tool configure [root@host01 ~]# systemctl restart vdsmd I have the same behavior on all my hosts running Ovirt Node. snapshot create fails - files not owned by vdsm:kvm

I've got an issue with one of my oVirt 4.3.10.4 clusters. OS is Centos 7.7, storage is glusterfs. Whenever I try to create a snapshot of any of my VMs, I get an (eventual) error: VDSM track04.yard.psc.edu command HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDS failed: Could not acquire resource. Probably resource factory threw an exception.: () After a bit of investigation, I believe that the root cause is that the snapshot file created is not owned by vdsm:kvm. Looking at the directories in glusterfs, I see that some of the disk images are owned by root:root, some are owned by qemu:qemu. In fact, if we watch the directory for the VM, we can actually see that the files are owned by vdsm:kvm when they are created, then get changed to qemu:qemu, then eventually get changed to being owned by root:root. This is entirely repeatable. Needless to say, oVirt can't read the disk images when they are owned by root, so that explains why the snapshot is failing. The question, then, is why the ownership is getting changed out from under the creation process. We are excited to announce that the call for proposals is now open for the Virtualization & IaaS devroom at the upcoming FOSDEM 2022, to be hosted virtually on February 5th 2022. This year will mark FOSDEM’s 22nd anniversary as one of the longest-running free and open source software developer events, attracting thousands of developers and users from all over the world. Due to Covid-19, FOSDEM will be held virtually this year on February 5th & 6th, 2022. About the Devroom The Virtualization & IaaS devroom will feature session topics such as open source hypervisors and virtual machine managers such as Xen Project, KVM, bhyve, and VirtualBox, and Infrastructure-as-a-Service projects such as KubeVirt, Apache CloudStack, Foreman, OpenStack, oVirt, QEMU and OpenNebula. This devroom will host presentations that focus on topics of shared interest, such as KVM; libvirt; shared storage; virtualized networking; cloud security; clustering and high availability; interfacing with multiple hypervisors; hyperconverged deployments; and scaling across hundreds or thousands of servers. Presentations in this devroom will be aimed at users or developers working on these platforms who are looking to collaborate and improve shared infrastructure or solve common problems. Dear ovirt users, we are running RHV 4.4.8.6-0.1.el8ev on the manager and Red Hat Virtualization Host 4.4.6 (el8.4) on the hypervisors. Normally I would open a case at Red Hat but our subscriptions expired. We are currently in the process of purchasing new ones but this problem is really urgent so I thought I'd give it a try here. Sorry for that if its misplaced. We have a problem importing some VMs from a iscsi storage domain. We had an outage of the iscsi san volume but managed to recover the data and bring them back online. We imported the volume into a new data center and were able to import most of the vms which were on that volume. But now there are still some importand ones left and we do get the upper mentioned error. I searched the web and found a solution which proposes to alter the "operating system type" in the import dialog and change it to "linux". Oh, while writing "linux" I forgot to mention all of the problematic vms are windows ones. But the import dialog doesn't let me change the operation system type. I can only change the name. I found another solution here in the archive of this mailing list. Its pretty new I think. Topic was "How to re-import a VM with an invalid timezone?" in August. The solution was to add the missing timezone in a file (https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine/blob/master/packaging/conf/timezones-…) on the manager and restart ovirt-engine. I would love to try that but I really don't know what to put there. I can't open an ova file because the vm is on the iscsi domain in some lvs or metadata or .. I don't know where RHV reads that from. Hope I am not missing some important info. Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers Timo

Hello, Well a quick check of the hosts say that they have ovirt- vmconsole enabled on their firewall, but there doesn't seem to be any logs for the vmconsoles on them. Running wireshark on one of the end- user machines shows that the host does send packets back and forth but then the end-user machine TCP resets the connection. (I assume due to the credential failure.) So it doesn't seem to be a firewall issue. Is there anything I can do to get some more logs from the vmconsoles on the Host? remote-viewer VNC mode issue

Hello, As oVirt unfortuately now requires VNC for the VM consoles, I've been attempting to get VNC mode working on my end user clients. The noVNC browser client works just fine, but for some reason the default download to remote-viewer fails on the same hosts. All the end-user gets is a quick flash of the remote-viewer window on their screen. Issue with oVirt fresh install, during step 3.5 'Installing and Configuring Data Warehouse on a Separate Machine': Following Guide: Installing oVirt as a standalone Engine with remote databases The two nodes; ovirt-net and ovirt-ctl are both fresh installed RHEL 8.4 nodes, built to make this test environment. With ovirt-ctl being the engine host and ovirt-net hosting the postgres database and DWH services. Upon following the steps through the engine-setup after confirming the installation settings, the setup gets to '[INFO] Creating a user for Grafana' then says the following error: [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Misc configuration': terminating connection due to administrator command server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request. Hi, we are trying to upgrade 4.3.7 -> 4.4.9 (Ovirt-Node, hosted engine). And things looks good until we try to migrate VM from 4.3.7 host to the 4.4.9 host, it fails with an generic error - and in below is from the vsdm.log from the 4.3.7 host. Migrating VM from 4.4.9 host -> 4.3.7 host works. I have a server running the engine on CentOS Stream. 2 hosts running likewise CentOS 8 Stream (C8S) and 2 hosts running Rocky Linux 8.5 (RL8.5). I had several VMs running on the 8S without any issue. After the oVirt upgrade, which partially fails* on the C8S-machines, the VMs on the C8S-hosts appear to be running, according to the oVirt GUI, but I can neither ping, ssh or even open a virt-viewer console to the VM. The console shows just a black screen. The only thing shown in the GUI is a note that the guest agent should be updated on the VM, so there appears to be some kind of communication between the engine/host and the VM. If I create a new VM on the C8S, I get the same result: No access to it, console is black despite the fact that oVirt GUI shows the VM as running and green. If I create a VM on one of the RL8.5 hosts, the console does work, I can eg. complete the GUI-installation (from CD) there. But after the boot, despite having configured the network correctly in the oVirt-GUI and in the installation process, the VM (using the console) is unable to raise the network. No error is displayed in the oVirt GUI neither for the cluster, DC, host nor VM. No apparent log-error neither in the engine-server nor the hosts. Stopped the firewalld on both in the engine-server as well as the hosts, but this did not change anything. On December 10th 2021 the oVirt project released an async update of oVirt Node (4.4.9.2) delivering updates fixing CVEs: - CVE-2021-43267 <https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2021-43267> [important] kernel: Insufficient validation of user-supplied sizes for the MSG_CRYPTO message type - CVE-2021-43527 <https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2021-43527> [critical] nss: Memory corruption in decodeECorDsaSignature with DSA signatures (and RSA-PSS) And several other low/moderate CVEs. The oVirt project initially released a 4.4.9.1 version which contained a newer version of qemu-kvm (6.1.0) which has been reported as affected by a few severe bugs. Upgraded to oVirt 4.4.9, still have vdsmd memory leak

I have seen vdsmd leak memory for years (I've been running oVirt since version 3.5), but never been able to nail it down. I've upgraded a cluster to oVirt 4.4.9 (reloading the hosts with CentOS 8-stream), and I still see it happen. One host in the cluster, which has been up 8 days, has vdsmd with 4.3 GB resident memory. On a couple of other hosts, it's around half a gigabyte. In the past, it seemed more likely to happen on the hosted engine hosts and/or the SPM host... but the host with the 4.3 GB vdsmd is not either of those. I'm not sure what I do that would make my setup "special" compared to others; I loaded a pretty minimal install of CentOS 8-stream, with the only extra thing being I add the core parts of the Dell PowerEdge OpenManage tools (so I can get remote SNMP hardware monitoring). When I run "pmap $(pidof -x vdsmd)", the bulk of the RAM use is a single anonymous block (which I'm guessing is just the python general memory allocator). I thought maybe the switch to CentOS 8 and python 3 might clear something up, but obviously not. Any ideas? -- Chris Adams <cma(a)cmadams.net>

Downgrading qemu-kvm

So even the latest updated to qemu-kvm is still broken in regards to running VMs in Ovirt. I thought I would try Node on a new host and the current install iso, installs version 6.0 of kvm, which still works, but if you do an upgrade on the node host it sill updates to the latest 6.1 version of kvm. Q35 with BIOS broken

I've been trying to get oVirt working for a week now with a self-hosted engine setup. Eventually, today, I decided to try a standalone engine and see if I can't at least get that to work, to maybe figure out what the issue is. It seems the default chipset type is Q35 with BIOS. But it fails to boot a VM. I'm not sure where to even look in the logs for this. The VM just never comes up, even though it's shown as being up in the oVirt administration page. I found similar symptoms when trying to set up a hosted-engine on the same machine. The VM would fail health check, and hosted-engine --vm-status would show the VM as up, but health check failing. The VM wasn't available over the network and it never pulled a DHCP lease from my router. I've looked at the logs pretty extensively and couldn't find anything to indicate what the cause of the problem was, or that this was even the problem in the first place. As far as the logs seem to be concerned, the VM is running fine, and it's a network issue.
