Fencing : SSL or not?

Hello, As fence_idrac has never worked for us, and as fence_ipmilan has worked nicely since years, we are using fence_ipmilan with the lanplus=1 option and we're happy with it. We upgraded to 4.3.0.4 and we're witnessing that we cannot fence our hosts anymore : 2019-02-18 09:42:08,678+01 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.pm.FenceProxyLocator] (default task-11) [2f78ed99-6703-4d92-b7cb-948c2d24b623] Can not run fence action on host 'xxxxx', no suitable proxy host was found. and on the SPM : fence_ipmilan: Failed: Unable to obtain correct plug status or plug is not available I found the suggested workaround here : https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3349841 but no combination of - lanplus={0,1} - -z - ssl=={0,1} lead to no solution. The package version is the same as what's described in the KB : fence-agents-rhevm-4.2.1-11.el7_6.7.x86_64 What should I test now? Thank you. -- Nicolas ECARNOT

Host choice when migrating VMs

Hello, I'm almost sure the following is useless as I think I know how it's working, but as I'm preparing a major change in our infrastructure, I'd rather be sure and not mess up. And also to be sure. (Just to be sure) For some reasons, and for the first time in our infra., one of our new DC will temporary include heterogeneous hosts : some networks will be available only on parts of them. Please may someone confirm me that with every load balancing / VM startup / VM migration / host choice, oVirt will smartly choose the available host equipped with the adequate networks? -- Nicolas ECARNOT

Hi, I have a question. When I use ordinary users to log in the management platform, the VNC of the virtual machine can only be logged in through the virtviewer tool, and there is no novnc option.

oVirt 4.3 Unable to configure console options in VM Portal

There does not seem to be a way for users to configure "Console options" when using the VM Portal. In older versions of oVirt, users had the ability to fully control how they configured their VM's. With the new VM Portal and the streamlined approach, they are not able to customize this. This forces them to use whatever console option is setup by default, which is usually a native client. If users are unable to configure their own console settings, then I would like to set the default console to use NoVNC so that it opens the console in a browser window instead of a native client. This will allow users without a native VNC client (Such as MacOS) to be able to connect to their VM consoles. I think have half the solution figured out, but it only affects the Administration Portal and not the VM Portal. engine-config –s ClientModeVncDefault=NoVnc It also does not affect the default "Video Type" or "Graphics Protocol". Is this something that is configurable? I have not found any related settings using the following command: engine-config -l There is also a file for configuring OS defaults, but no documentation of any additional values it could support: /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d/00-defaults.properties Ideally, I would like to be able to configure a few more default settings, such as "Optimized for" and "Disable Single Sign-on", so I think solving the console options problem will ultimately lead to a solution for these as well. Any suggestions?

Unable to upload images

I just updated my ovirt to the latest, and now I can't upload images that I used to be able to. I can upload and see the nagio xi virtual appliance, but I can't upload .disk files anymore, I get a red error in GUI and it say image file not supported, but I used to be able to upload same file in previous version with no issue

Forcing vdsm to configure another NIC as the bridge (oVirt 4.2.8)

I installed a new 10GbE NIC after installing the oVirt engine, and upon reboot vdsm began auto-configuring one of the ports on the new NIC rather than the original 1GbE interface. The new NIC is not currently connected to anything, so I am wondering how to force vdsm to use the 1GbE NIC until I install and connect the server to a 10GbE switch. This is causing the data center and host in the Administration Portal to show as "non-operational," though I can still log in. I have been poring over any files I can find on the server relating to "ovirtmgmt" or "vdsm," and I am wondering if I simply change the "nic" parameter to the name of the 1GbE interface in the following file that reloading vdsmd or rebooting will cause it to behave the way I want: /var/lib/vdsm/persistence/netconf/nets/ovirtmgmt Any insight on this? Are there other locations that need to be edited to force vdsm to use, say, "eth0" rather than "eth3"? Are there files that I need to delete so vdsm will automatically re-create them? Any help is appreciated - thanks!

failed to import vm from a standalone kvm host

Hello, everyone. I'm testing ovirt 4.3.0 now and when I try to import a vm from a standalone kvm host, it failed. My ovirt cluster's backend storage is a HPE FC device. here's my step: 1. shutdown the vm in that kvm host. 2. Enable public key authentication between the proxy host (ovirt1) and the KVM host: 3. Enter the URI of the KVM host. qemu+ssh://root@192.168.49.191/system 4. left over volume after failed disk move

I tried moving some disks from one gluster volume to another. 8 worked, 6 failed. process stuck while adding disk

I tried adding a 400 gig disk to a VM. I could see the disk being built out on the storage, mounted via nfs, but clearly something is stuck. A few hours later and I see nothing finishing. Nothing seems to be logging to the engine.log and I have restarted vdsmd on all the hosts and have restarted the ovirt-engine and httpd on the engine. I see this running in my Events: https://www.screencast.com/t/OnnWAdTCjQi0 I have added other 400 gig disks to other VM's while this was running and they have completed fine in less than 5 minutes. The oVirt Project is pleased to announce the availability of the oVirt 4.3.1 First Release Candidate, as of February 20th, 2019. This update is a release candidate of the first in a series of stabilization updates to the 4.3 series. This is pre-release software. This pre-release should not to be used in production. This release is available now on x86_64 architecture for: * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 or later * CentOS Linux (or similar) 7.6 or later This release supports Hypervisor Hosts on x86_64 and ppc64le architectures for: * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 or later * CentOS Linux (or similar) 7.6 or later * oVirt Node 4.3 (available for x86_64 only) Experimental tech preview for x86_64 and s390x architectures for Fedora 28 is also included. How, everyone. I have upgraded my engine from 4.2.8 to 4.3.0. but when I check upgrade for the node host, there's no updates available for upgrade. Hello, we are using ovirt 4.2.8.2-1.el7. One our user probably tried to preview taken snapshot but the task is stucked and never finished. Also disk is locked. Hi, Currently choosing VDO at volume setup forces creation of a thick LV due to a RHEL bug, cf : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1634551 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1600156 The latter was closed while pointing to the following workaround : https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3562021 It is also said there that full fix will be available in RHEL-8 Thin LV are necessary to enable volume snapshots and LVCache, and are currently not possible on VDO volumes Does the above comments in BZs mean that it will still not be possible to configure Thin LV for VDO volumes with ovirt-4.3.x/Centos-7.X either? We have been postponing rolling out oVirt-4.2 in production because of these two major cons. Please advise if you think RHEL-8 will be necessary in order to have VDO volumes on par with normal volumes (snapshots and LVCache). In that case we will deploy production asap without VDO. Should we instead force the creation of VDO volmume on ThinLV by tweaking the gdeploy configuration and applying the mentionned workaround? Basically you put in the file the post "ip rule add" part of the command e.g. for "ip rule add to 172.22.20.31 priority 32764" you need to put a line of "to 172.22.20.31 priority 32764" >> 2. - yes, the same priority can be used for all of them. E.g. if you want to route 172.22.20.31, 172.22.34.56 and 172.22.67.89 you will need to add: to 172.22.20.31 priority 32764 to 172.22.34.56 priority 32764 to 172.22.67.89 priority 32764 into the rule-<interface name> file e.g. rule-ovirtmgmt or rule-eno3. Please note that you will also need to add the static route for each one of these as well w/ "ip route add ... " command e.g. "ip route add 172.22.20.31 via 172.21.12.61". You can also use the route-<interface name> putting just the route info part, similar to the "ip rule" e.g. for equivalent of "ip route add 172.22.20.31 via 172.21.12.61" you need put in the file a line with the content "172.22.20.31 via 172.21.12.61". For routes it's important to use specifically the route-ovirtmgmt file since the script automatically adds the device to the route command i.e. you can put the following lines into your route-ovirtmgmt file: 172.22.20.31 via 172.21.12.61 172.22.34.56 via 172.21.12.61 172.22.67.89 via 172.21.12.68 (In case the first 2 of the mentioned IPs should be routed through the 172.21.12.61 gateway, and the last one should be routed through the 172.21.12.68 gateway). For the reference you can take a look at the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-routes script. It does the actual processing of both "route" and "rule" files for all network interfaces on a system. Hello all. It is been a while that I used the oVirt and on the same time, the company where I started to work, has a big problem with the engine, we lose it. We did not have any backup. To try recovery the enverioment I installed a knew oVirt, this time Hosted Engine, and import the Storage. I could import and start some vm's but the most part not appear for me, dosen't show on "Disk Import", "VM Import" and any place. I know that is there, because show me that size. May I see, like list, this disks? I can't do this throught oVirt web. Is there any way to bring dist disks back? Looking at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1666795 It seems that a change in vdsm/libvirt exposed NFS configuration issue, that may was needed in the past and probably not needed now. If you use NFS, I would like to see your /etc/exports (after sanitizing it if needed). For extra bonus, output of "exportfs -v" would be useful. In particular, I want to know if you use root_squash, all_squash, or no_root_squash. Thanks, Nir

Hi, I just installed a Tesla T4 card, installed the nvidia's RPM, I see the mdev_type stuff etc. Following their instructions, I'm trying to set a Windows 10 VM to use the vGPU (the VM works without any vGPU), I get this error in the event... VM Win-10-test is down with error. Migration of VMs across two Ovirt setups

Hi, I have two ovirt setups having multiple hosts and cluster and around 100+ vms in one and around 32 in one setup. I want to dismantle one setup and before before doing so all vms are need to be migrated to one setup I tried with import vms from another setup using Libvert -- https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/virt/KvmToOvirt.html but no luck connection not getting established. What if I simply remove one host from one setup having local storage(all vms are located on local storage) and simply add it to another setup? and then migrate VMs from local to shared storage and then dismantle host ! We just updated our engine to 4.3, but when I tried to update one of our AMD EPYC hosts it could not activate with the error: Host vmc2h2 moved to Non-Operational state as host CPU type is not supported in this cluster compatibility version or is not supported at all. I have not yet tried removing the host entirely and adding it as part of creating the new cluster. We have been/are using a database change to update the 4.2 cluster level to include EPYC support with the following entries (can post the whole query if needed): 7:AMD EPYC:svm,nx,model_EPYC:EPYC:x86_64; 8:AMD EPYC IBPB:svm,nx,ibpb,model_EPYC:EPYC-IBPB:x86_64 We have been running 4.2 with this for awhile. We did apply the same changes after the 4.3 update, but only for the 4.2 cluster level. We only used the AMD EPYC IBPB model. Reverting the host back to 4.2 allows it to activate and run normally. Huge Pages

How do I know how many huge pages my hosts can support? cat /proc/meminfo | grep Huge AnonHugePages: 17684480 kB HugePages_Total: 0 HugePages_Free: 0 HugePages_Rsvd: 0 HugePages_Surp: 0 Hugepagesize: 2048 kB [image: image.png] And once I know, I set the kernel parameters here, and reboot the host, correct? [image: image.png] And then I assume I assign them to the VM here? How do I decide how many huge pages and what size a particular VM can benefit from? [image: image.png] Is there a part of the docs I am not finding that covers this?

Just thinking.... oVirt upgrade to specific version

Hi, I have a running 4.2.7 hci cluster which I would upgrade to 4.2.8. If I do this in the standard manner (yum update in engine vm and then the nodes from engine UI) I assume it will go to 4.3, which I would rather avoid for now. Is there a way for getting it updated strictelly to 4.2.8 ? Thanks, Leo
