Not able to install HostedEngine

Hello, i like to setup a complete new cluster I install the version 4.2.1.7 I set up ip during installation process After reboot I enable by changing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ens1f0 from ONBOOT=no to yes Than I try to install hosted-engine as described here: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/self-hosted/chap-Deploying_Self-Hosted_… I prepare the installation process with yum install ovirt-engine-appliance then i 've tried both variants grafical installation with cockpit and the cli after setting up the network, the network is no longer working and the installtion will break everything seems fine but network isn't running a reboot will not help thx stefan [image: image.png]

Ovirt 4.3 Alpha AMD 2970WX Windows VM creation and NUMA

Not sure if Users is the best place for this as Im using 4.3 to test support for my AMD 2970WX Threadripper but While trying to setup a Windows VM, it fails. I have a working CentOS 7 running. Heres what I get when I try to startup the VM. VM Windows-Darin is down with error. Exit message: internal error: process exited while connecting to monitor: WARNING: Image format was not specified for '/dev/sg0' and probing guessed raw. Automatically detecting the format is dangerous for raw images, write operations on block 0 will be restricted. I also dont fully understand NUMA because it creates 4 NUMA sockets even though technically there should be 2 correct? I dont get how NUMA is setup, but either way it doesnt help resolve any issues. removal of 3 vdsm hooks

I've identified 3 ancient vdsm-hooks that have been obsoleted by proper oVirt features. vdsm-hook-isolatedvlan: obsoleted in ovirt-4.2.6 by clean-traffic-gateway filter https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/q/I396243e1943eca245ab4da64bb286da19f9b47ec vdsm-hook-qos: obsoleted in ovirt-3.3 by https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/sla/network-qos/ vdsm-hook-noipspoof: obsoleted in ovirt-4.0 by choosing the "clean-traffic" filter https://ovirt.org/feature/networkfilter I would like to remove this code from vdsm-4.30, destined for ovirt-4.3. Network Setup after ovirt node Install and before add node to cluster

Hello, I ve downloaded an installed OVIRT NODE 4.2.7.1. During the installation I ‘ve setup a static ip (I ‘ve also tried dhcp, both work) The installation passes and after the reboot ovirt node starts without any problems. BUT the network is not configured. I know https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/install-guide/chap-oVirt_Nodes/ and I know https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Hosts/ and now I am between these two documents oVirt is installed but network is not configured to add it to datacenter of course I know the scripts under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts do I really have do edit it manuel? if I change ip in command line ip a add … dev.. and ip route add … it fails to add node to datacenter - with one of the last version I ‘ve added the IP address in bash - added the host to datacenter, - after reboot readd the ip address in bash after reboot - an then I could change network settings in oVirt Manger What is best practices for adding a node to datacenter when the ip address is not assigned after installation Thx shb

Ovirt Maximums

Is there a resource available that would describe the configurable maximums for the Ovirt Engine and Ovirt Nodes. Things like: How many Logical Networks per host? If one does not exist does anyone have any experiences with reaching limits that caused issues specifically with regards to the number of networks on hosts.

Configuring Gluster Hyperconverged on Cloud

Hi, I would like to do hands-on on Gluster Hyperconverged environment, and as per my understanding compute and storage has to be on the same hosts. Since I don't have physical infra to support such configuration, I would like to setup 3-node cluster on Cloud e.g. AWS, or Azure. I would like to know if I create an EC2 instance on AWS (or on Azure) with the desired Compute, Storage and Network capacity, is Gluster-hyperconverged cluster setup supported for such deployment ? I am referring https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/gluster-hyperconverged/ for this. Thanks.

Hi Dominik, I have added LACP bond network to all hosts and renamed the Hosted Engine using "/usr/share/ovirt-engine/setup/bin/ovirt-engine-rename." However, I am still missing the option to assign Migration and Management network roles to this new bond. Can you advise where I can find this option? LVM vs DF discrepancy usage (with NFS)

Dear All, i follow here the suggestion of Tal and share this problem (for which there's a workaround) with you, hoping someone can identify something which can explain this problem. . Settings : We work mostly on HP (ProLiant DL380 Gen9, DL380e Gen8, DL180 G6), with an ovirt cluster DL180 G6. On the storage side, we use the host harddrive mount in NFS (i know it's not the "by the books optimal settings"). . Installation : Each host is installed with the node iso. Harddrive are not SSD and are in RAID5 (physical or logical) Each harddrive has a standard oVirt node install auto partitionning, except for one thing, we reduce the / mount point to make a new partition in XFS for the data storage mount point (the partition is inside LVM in our case) . The problem : We experienced on all of this hosts huge discrepancy between the LVS command and DF on usage of the different partition. (sometimes up to a 90% difference !) Spoiler alert, DF is right, LVM is wrong. I think (but i might be wrong), that when we delete -in ovirt- a lot of data on the drive, LVM doesn't get all the data about that. . Workarounds : By speaking about with lvm dev, we found a workaround : fstrim who force LVM to check if data has been deleted or not. Another solution is to use a partition for data which is not a part of LVM, that works well too :) One last thing : we saw this on data partition of our hosts, but it's not impossible it might the case on the ovirt partition too (the current discrepancy might be normal) If someone has an idea of what we did wrong, or if there's a good reason for this to happened... VDSM issues.

Hi, We have 4 hosts on Version 4.2.1.7-1.el7.centos, but we have got an issue with vdsm on our SPM which is causing some issues and we cannot migrate any VM's from that host. If I run 'vdsm-client Host getAllTasksStatuses' on the host, it returns 4 tasks, message: running job 1 of 1, code:0, ........ taskState:running for all 4 tasks. However we have no operations in the engine that should be running (not a hosted engine), just a stuck task that logs every minute or so 'Clearing asynchronous task Unknown that started at Thu Dec 06 14:42:03 GMT 2018'. If I try to manually stop the task, 'vdsm-client Task stop taskID=' we get 'code=411, message=Task is aborted: u'task guid' - code 411'. So then If I try and clean the task it can't because its in a running state: vdsm-client: Command Task.clear with args {'taskID': 'task guid'} failed: (code=410, message=Operation is not allowed in this task state: ("can't clean in state running",)) Attached is part of the (sanitised) VDSM log that is recurring. VDSM version is: vdsm-client-4.20.17-1.el7.centos.noarch Does anyone have any ideas other than shutting down all the VM's on that host and restarting it? Hello, i had 3 hosts with ovirt running, with one of this 3 host i had problems during boot up. I decied to remove the host from the cluster. Now i ve two hosts But if I take a look at Hosted Engine in cockpit i see all three hosts Why ist he kvm380 not removed? How can I remove it? Thx shb

I had this issue this week as well. When asked about the glusterfs that you self provisioned you stated "ovirt1.localdomain:/gluster_bricks/engine” So I am new to gluster but as a client of gluster you can only refer to it via volume name. host:/<volume name> Hence maybe try ovirt1.localdomain:/engine. That did the trick for me. Hope this helps. Cost me a week. Jurie

Strange migration issue

Dear All, I've using ovirt from 3.4 and we have a strange, rarely problem with live migrations. - In most of case impossible to do a live migrate of VMs that have a lot of memory (16 gigs and more up to 40 GB) . - Those are need to try and try until the migration will be successful - impossible to understand why does working in a case and doesn't in another - it is happening always if there bigger load on vms, but only on big memory VM-s - The small VMs (2-4-8 gigs) can migrate without problems - In very rarely cases possible to migrate on first try. - We using the memory ballooning function on all of VMs. We using dedicated migration network with separated vlans, but on same physical lan (1gbe) with ovirtmgmt. At this moment, we don't use QoS for dedicate bandwidth. What can I do ? Thanks in advance, Regards, Tibor

Removing stale unused disks from Ovirt Storage domains?

Hello, after migrating our Fiber Channel to a new Ovirt 4.2 environment, we over the years and through experimenting and mistakes have ended up with some stale LVM's/disks on our fibre channel storage that Ovirt no longer is able to manage correctly or is unaware of. I am looking for a reliable to way to do a few different things. The first is figuring out precisely what LVM ids belong to a VM and is being used by that VM. The second is figuring out if a LVM I have found on the Storage domain is being used at all by any VM or if ovirt is even aware of it. I have fumbled around a bit. And using a combination of the following I have been able to figure out some of them. But now I am finding information that does not match or may not be correct or I am interpreting the data wrong. Anyway this is a big deal, because we want to remove the stale unused LVMs and it would obviously be disastrous if I deleted the wrong LVM from the FC. So I know its not recommend but since I am not actually telling vdsm-client to do anything other than get information I figure its harmless. So here is what I have found so far. *vdsm-client Host getVMFullList vmname=<VM_NAME_HERE> | grep volumeID* *lvs | grep <noted volumeID here>* With the above I have had some success verifying what LVMs a device is using. However now I am having trouble figuring out a particular windows server VMs LVM id's. what I want to know is there a better way? Also two more things. You could call these feature requests, however it would be nice if there was a way to see all the unused LVMs on a storage domain that are not Tied to a VM. And it would also be nice to be able to remove un-imported VMs that reside on a storage domain without importing them. After my recents posts titled 'VMs unexpectidly restarted' that did not provide solution nor search idea, I submit to you another (related ?) problem. Parallely with the problem of VMs down (that did not reproduce since Oct 16), I have ramdomly some events in the GUI saying "VM xxxxx is not responding." For example, VM "patjoub1" on 2018-11-11 14:34. Never the same hour, not all the days, often this VM patjoub1 but not always : I had it on two others. Hi, tried to setup hyperconverged with glusterfs. I used three i7 with two 1TB Disks and two NICs. Everythin worked fine till: [ INFO ] TASK [Set Engine public key as authorized key without validating the TLS/SSL certificates] appears in the wizards window. Does anyone has a hint on what to do?

Hi all, I am testing vGPU in ovirt4.2. I have a nvidia p100 GPU installed in the host and I have installed the correct dirver. I followed this page(https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/install-guide/appe-Preparing_a_Hos… but I failed. In the "Host Devices tab" I got an device called "GP100GL [Tesla P100 PCIe 16GB]". I could not find any device of "mdev type". Anyone can help me? Thanks a lot!

If you have it you can connect the appropriate storage domain using vdsm-client, and then start the VM using that libvirt definition. again, it’s not very easy to do. In all other cases it would have to be generated by the engine again as the OVF_STORE OVF backup is an OVF and you need libvirt’s XML so you would have to convert it first anyway, so again nothing simple to do. Cloud-init reset network configuration to default dhcp after reboot and regular run

I'm trying to configure network in VMs created from template, and see strange behaviour from cloud-init. cloud-init installed and enabled in template. ver cloud-init-0.7.9-24.el7.centos.1.x86_64 guest Centos 7.5 ovirt 4.2.7 from ovirt-releases-42-pre repo 1. I use "run once" with initial run - use cloud-init - networks in-guest net iface : eth0 add new - static enter address, mask, gw ipv6 none Run (once) and cloud-init configure ifcfg-eth0 for that address (successfully). 2. I shutdown that VM and use "Run" (regular) without "use cloud init" in VM properties, awaiting that above configurations are saved (and booted with it). But because "use cloud init" not checked, and cloud-init service enabled, it start, cannot find datasource and drop configuration to default (dhcp). Additional routes on Interface

Hi, we are running a RHV 4.1 installation which is working fine except one issue: We have a Network which is only used for fencing(power Management via ilo), each host has an interface with this network and a custom ip, for this to work we need a few custom routes. At the moment we add the new routes via a plain route file under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/, but the engine flags this interface then as out-of-sync. How can we persist those changes across reboots and still be able to add new devices via the UI ? Hello everybody I am frequently receiving the following messages from ovirt: Repository ovirt-4.2-epel is listed more than once in the configuration Repository ovirt-4.2-centos-gluster312 is listed more than once in the configuration Repository ovirt-4.2-virtio-win-latest is listed more than once in the configuration Repository ovirt-4.2-centos-qemu-ev is listed more than once in the configuration Repository ovirt-4.2-centos-opstools is listed more than once in the configuration Repository centos-sclo-rh-release is listed more than once in the configuration Repository ovirt-4.2-centos-ovirt42 is listed more than once in the configuration Repository ovirt-4.2 is listed more than once in the configuration I`ve got following repos configured in directory /etc/yum.repos.d: ovirt-4.2-dependencies.repo ovirt-4.2-pre-dependencies.repo ovirt-4.2-pre.repo ovirt-4.2.repo I deleted the 'pre' repos several times but apparently they are being recreated somehow. At same time try Register Ovirt Node to Ovirt engine It shows "Please provide valid oVirt engine fully qualified domain name (FQDN) and port (443 by default)" but i am use hpervisor.eipl.com with port 443

So all my VMs are inheriting system permissions from group everyone and giving all my users access to all my VMs, in ovirt 4.2. Is there a best practices guide or any recommendation on how to clear this up? Clicking remove on everyone does not work because Ovirt won't allow me to remove a built in account. Debugging "non_operational" host during self-hosted deploy

The "bootstrap_local_vm.yml" playbook fails at the end, during the task "Wait for the host to be up" Looking through the ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-bootstrap_local_vm log, I found the reason is supposed to be: "status": "non_operational", "status_detail": "network_unreachable", But that's it. I can't find anything wrong with any networks, neither on the host or in the partly-prepared HE VM. Is there some verbose information I can dump to find out why it thinks the network is unreachable? I can't find any logs indicating any issues until this step.

Need some magic here ... - 2 hosts CentOS 7.5.1804 with all the patch available, in the cluster - hosted engine from rpm ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20181113.1.el7.noarch with all the patch as well (manager Version 4.2.7.5-1.el7) 1) I re-install the hosts and the hosted engine from scratch 2) I imported the ISO, export and DATA domain from the SAN 3) I went to the DATA domain in the VM Import tab where I saw all the VMs 4) I imported the VM one after one BUT .... One of the VM (Windows 10 x64) can't be import because of the error in the subject of this thread. [OT] Xen/Oracle VM under Qemu-kvm/oVirt

Hello, I have to do a test on Oracle VM 3.4.4 that is based on Xen 4.4.4. The test aims in simulating storage migration in OVM, where I have to migrate also the so called server pool file system, that requires a special procedure. I see that some guys wrote here to ask about OVM to oVirt migrations, so there could be some expertise in this field. I'm just trying to proceed with the hypervisor steps (Oracle VM Server), that is the more difficult part, I suppose. I'm testing at the moment on a Fedora 29 system, using qemu-kvm, setting host-pass-through for the vm dedicated to the Oracle VM Hypervisor. I already tested nested virtualization (with oVirt for some vms) inside this system, so the host part should be ok. I have set disks as scsi and vnic as e1000 Installation gone ok but at reboot I see cpu stuck and no prompt yet see here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sAEO-W0-OLIGSugxIwSLRBx3WXXoK1yx/view?usp=… I have not yet understood exactly the reason of complain... Any one already able to create a Xen (or Oracle VM) nested environment inside qemu-kvm? Best Openstack version to integrate with oVirt 4.2.7

Hello, do you think it is ok to use Rocky version of Openstack to integrate its services with oVirt 4.2.7 on CentOS 7? I see on https://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/openstack/ that, if Rocky is too new, between the older releases available there are, from newer to older: Queens Pike Ocata Newton At the moment I have two separate lab environments: oVirt with 4.2.7 Openstack with Rocky (single host with packstack allinone) just trying first integration steps with these versions, it seems I'm not able to communicate with glance, because I get in engine.log 2018-11-10 17:32:58,386+01 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.provider.storage.AbstractOpenStackStorageProviderProxy] (default task-51) [e2fccee7-1bb2-400f-b8d3-b87b679117d1] Not Found (OpenStack response error code: 404) Nothing in glance logs on openstack, apparently. From Self-hosted engine to standalone engine

Hello, we currently have a self-hosted engine on gluster with 3 hosts. We want to have the engine on a single machine on a standalone KVM. We did the following steps on our test platform. - Create a VM on a standalone KVM - Put the self hosted engine into global maintenance - Shut the self-hosted engine - Copy the self-hosted engine image disk (by browsing into the gluster engine volume) by using linux dd command to the standalone KVM - Reusing the self-hosted engine's MAC address on the new standalone VM - Starting the standalone VM which use the self-hosted image disk previously copied on the standalone KVM - Log in the engine and then undeploy the hosted-engine by re-installing all the host and go for UNDEPLOY on the self-hosted section - Stop ovirt-ha-agent and ovirt-ha-broker Everything seems to be ok for now. What do you think about our process ? (to go from self-hosted to standalone) Do you have any idea on what should be checked ? FCoE wont initialize on reboot oVirt 4.2.

I have HP BL460c Gen9 blades with BCM57840 NetXtreme II 10/20-Gigabit Ethernet via a HP Virtual connection. In my ovirt 4.1 environment I have fibre channel working great. However in the new environment that I want to bring the data domain over too ultimately, I am having issues with ovirt interfering with the hosts ability to see the Fiber Channel storage. If i build a clean CentOS 7 installation and get my FCoE module installed and Fiber channel set up on my appropriate interfaces, it works and sees the fiber channel interface every time I type fcoeadm -i, I can reboot a million times, does not go away. However once I turn it into a oVirt 4.2 node and add it to my environment and reboot the blade it is hit or miss if fcoeadm -i is going to return interface information. If I then type "systemctl restart network" my fiber channel comes online, but I should not need to do this. I can see in my dmesg logs that the fiber channel is initializing on boot. The host is running latest ovirt-node-ng 4.2.7. hosted-engine --deploy fails constantly in late stage when trying to run engine from NFS. It already ran as "HostedEngineLocal" and I think is then migrated to NFS storage. Cannot remove old renamed hosted-engine storage domain

Hi, I've been testing the hosted-engine restore process and have gotten stuck because I cannot remove the old hosted-engine storage domain. Here is the process I went through: 1. Setup two 70G luns under an iscsi target (one for the original, one for the restored hosted-engine. They are both empty at this point) 2. Install RHEL 7.6 on two other hosts (synergy and pointblank) 3. Install ovirt 4.2 on host synergy thru hosted-engine --deploy using one of the luns 4. Add host pointblank 5. Perform engine-backup and copy it off 6. Shutdown both RHEL hosts 7. Reinstall RHEL on both (wipe disk) 8. Install ovirt 4.2 on host synergy via hosted-engine --deploy --restore-from-file=backup.tgz using the other unused lun 9. Remove old host pointblank 10. Add host pointblank 11. Noticed that old hosted-engine storage domain (named hosted_storage_old_20181130T111054) is designated the master storage domain 12. Move storage domain hosted_storage_old_20181130T111054 into maintenance 13. Noticed that hosted_storage_old_20181130T111054 is still the master (even after moving it into maint while the new hosted_storage storage domain is healthy/active) 14. Tried to detach hosted_storage_old_20181130T111054 anyways, but presented with: Error while executing action: Cannot detach the master Storage Domain from the Data Center while there are other storage domains attached to it. -Please try to activate another Storage Domain in the Data Center. This is quite strange as the new hosted_storage storage domain is listed under that same Data Center named "Default" and is shown active. Any guidance would be much appreciated! Thanks, Andrew

hosted-engine deploy seems to be failed, but it is not

Hi folks, A while ago I installed oVirt 4.2 on my CentOS 7.5 server. It is a single node. Everything is working, I can deploy VM's, etc. But it look likes that the hosted-engine is partly installed or something. [root@s01 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-status It seems like a previous attempt to deploy hosted-engine failed or it's still in progress. Please clean it up before trying again [root@s01 ~]# Any suggestions? Thanks! Sinan

cluster 4 pc's for more scanning power?

Hello and sorry for the ignorance behind this question. I've been reading about various scale out, "hyper convergence" solutions and want to ask this about oVirt. I do vulnerability scanning on my company's assets. I do it from an obsolete laptop that was given to me. The load goes over 13 sometimes, and the scans take a long time. If I built an oVirt cluster from 4 or 5 desktop pc's, build VM to run OpenVAS, would the cpu load demanded by the scanning be spread accross the 3-4 hosts, not inlcuding the management host, and therby give my scans more CPU power? If not oVirt, is there another project that would be better suited to what I'm trying to achieve? Qualifiers: -I'm not asking if this is the best way to get high-load scanning done. I'm just asking if I'll get the combined power from the cpu cores of all the host machines. The scanning jobs thread already. -I know it would probably be more efficient to get a powerful multi core workstation or server to do this. That is not my question. -The pc's are perfectly good, they are just not being used and won't be used for anything else. Thanks in advance.

SPICE QXL Crashes Linux Guests

I'm having an odd issue that i find hard to believe could be a bug, and not some kind of user error, but im at a loss for where else to look. when booting a linux ISO with QXL SPICE graphics, the boot hangs as soon as kernel modesetting kicks in. Tried with latest debian, fedora, and centos. Sometimes it randomly works, but most often it does not. QXL / VGA VNC work fine. However if i wait a few minutes after starting the VM for the graphics to start, then there are no issues and i can install as usual. So after install, i reboot, hangs on reboot right after graphics switch back to text mode with QXL SPICE, not with VNC. So i force power off, reboot, and wait a while for it to boot. If i did text only install, when i open a spice console it will hang after typing a few characters. If i did a graphical install then as long as i waited long enough for X to start, then it works perfectly fine. I tried to capture some logs, but since the whole guest OS hangs it's rather hard to pull off. I did see an occasional error about the mouse driver, so that's really all i have to go on. As for the spice client, im using virt-viewer on windows 10 x64, tried various versions of virt-viewer just to be sure, no change. I also have a large amount on windows guests with QXL SPICE. These all work with no issue. Having guest agent installed in the linux guest seems to make no difference. There are no out of the ordinary logs on the VDSM hosts, but i can provide anything you may need. It's not specific to any one host, i have 10 VM hosts in the cluster, they all do. They are westmere boxes if that makes a difference. Any ideas on how i should approach this? VNC works well enough for text only linux guest, but not being able to reboot my GUI linux guests without also closing my spice connection is a small pain. as far as ovirt versions im on the latest, this is a rather fresh install. just set it up a few days ago, but i've been a long time ovirt user. I am using a squid spice proxy if that makes a difference.
