Gluster Deployment hangs on enabling or disabling chronyd service

Hi, Why is gluster deployment hangs on enabling or disabling the chronyd service? I have enabled passwordless ssh to access itself and other two nodes. What would be the solution to get it pass this stage? Hi Filip, could you please share with us complete engine logs using SOS log collector [1] and, if possible, engine database dump, so we can investigate the issue? Also do you remember any steps you have performed before this issue happened? Ovirt 3:6 to 4:2 migration

Hello Team Ovirt, We are running Ovirt3.8 version in our prod, we want to upgrade to 3.8 to 4.2. At present we have 2 (hyp A & hyp B)physical host ovirt 3.8 is running with self hosted engine with data domain and iso one cluster and data center. What we were thing do this migration in following fashion. Plan A. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. Install self hosted engine 7. Attach Data Domain 8. Attach Export Domain which was use in ovirt 3.8 9. Import all vm's from there to new ovirt 4.2 10. Once all the vm's got up and running poweroff hyp A 11. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp A and attach cluster. Plan B. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. Install self hosted engine 7. Attach Data Domain 8. Export from ovirt 3.8 to ovirt 4.2 9. Once all the vm's got up and running poweroff hyp A 10. Cant create ISCSI data domain

Hello all, i try to create a new data domain on ISCSI storage following this documentation: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/ Discovery of ISCSI target is working but after logging in to the target no LUNs are found or displayed, so i cant finish the procedure. On the SPM i see an ISCSI session, and LUN 1 is attached as /dev/sdc. The ISCSI system is a FreeNAS installation and im running ovirt 4.2. Any suggestion how to solve this problem? Regards, Robert

Hello, I'm working on development of script to backup and restore ovirt VMs. I saw some examples from sdk (https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine-sdk /tree/master/sdk/examples) to backup and restore VMs, but for backup ovf VM i'm using the vm.initialization.configuration.data and this ovf it keeps the snapshots information and don't have disks ids reference. I would like to known if we have some method to get the ovf with disks ids? Failed to Activated Host

Hi Today i had plan to start upgrading my installation to the latest 4.2. As i was already on a 4.2.x version i have figured it will be easy .. well.guess what i have having trouble re-activating one of the freshly upgraded host. So here is the resume. My setup have 3 hosts that are also part of a gluster pool. Those are the original host that was use to setup the HA engine with glusterfs. One of the 3 host is only used for arbiter and can also run the engine. But nothing else can run on it because it is a fairly small machine. I have also 6 others hosts for running vms that are not part of the gluster pool. So first thing i did to upgrade is set the global maintenance. Update the Engine/restart the engine and remove global maintenance.. that went without a glitch. Next i choose the arbiter for the first machine to upgrade. Then set the machine to maintenance run the upgrade and reboot the host. That went also without a glicth. Now here is the glitchy part. When i try to reactivate the host i got a strange error with a gluster peer command that failed on a host that is not in the gluster peer list. Here is the two errors i had. *"Gluster command [gluster peer probe ovhost3] failed on server sfmo5002ov74."* *"Add Host failed error: ovhost3 is either already part of another cluster of having volumes configured return code: 3"* One thing i do not understand is the sfmo5002ov74 is not part of the gluster pool. It does not provide any bricks to the system. Now i am not sure what to look for. I have stop the upgrade process until i figure out the issue. Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks Carl

Hi all, I've deployed the ovirt Version 4.2.4.5-1.el7 on a small cluster and I'm trying to use as datastorage domain a configured Spectrum Scale (GPFS) distributed filesystem for test it. I've completed the configuration of the storage, and the filesystem defined are correctly mounted on the client hosts as we can see: gpfs_kvm gpfs 233T 288M 233T 1% /gpfs/kvm gpfs_fast gpfs 8.8T 5.2G 8.8T 1% /gpfs/fast The content output of the mount comand is: gpfs_kvm on /gpfs/kvm type gpfs (rw,relatime) gpfs_fast on /gpfs/fast type gpfs (rw,relatime) I can write and read to the mounted filesystem correctly, but when I try to add the local mounted filesystem I encountered some errors related to the mounting process of the storage. I don't know if this change affect the ovirt mounting process. Can you help me to add this filesystem to the ovirt environment? The parameters that I used previously are ok? Or i need to do some modification? Its possible that the process fails because i dont have a device related to the gpfs filesystems on /dev? Can we apply some kind of workaround to mount manually the filesystem to the ovirt environment? Ex. create the dir /rhev/data-center/mnt/_gpfs_kvm manually and then mount the /gpfs/kvm over this? It's posible to modify the code to bypass some comprobations or something? Reading the available documentation over Internet I find that ovirt was compatible with this fs (gpfs) implementation, because it's POSIX Compliant, this is a main reason for test it in our cluster. Ovirt system crash when starting VM with Quadro GPU

I have recently been using an old Radeon R9 270X lying around without issue, until this card seemed to have kicked the bucket. I had an Nvidia Quadro P2000 lying around I thought I would try. After installing it into my system, it showed up in the PCI device as anticipated. I based both devices to my Windows 10 guest. It shows up a a GP106GL and a separate audio component. The same thing that happened with the AMD Radeon Card. The events just shows the VM's being terminated without giving a reason, and I am hoping for some guidance. Currently using a single node setup, running ovirt 4.2.3. Any ideas or places to check would be much appreciated!

Python-SDK4: Check snapshot deletion result?

Hi, We're using ovirt-engine-sdk-python 4.1.6 on oVirt 4.1.9, currently we're trying to delete some snapshots via a script like this: sys_serv = conn.system_service() vms_service = sys_serv.vms_service() vm_service = vms_service.vm_service(vmid) snaps_service = vm_service.snapshots_service() snaps_service.service('SNAPSHOT-ID').remove() This works, mostly... however, sometimes the deletion fails: Failed to delete snapshot 'snapshot name' for VM 'vm'. Is it currently possible to know via Python-SDK that the deletion actually failed? I know I can check the state of a snapshot, but I'd like to check the result of the task. Is that possible somehow? Thanks.

Windows VMs won't boot in debug mode

Hi Everyone, I've been having problems getting Windows 10 VMs to boot in debug mode after turning on debugging over network (steps below). Also, device manager in Windows is not showing the processors' node which might be related (same reason why Windows is refusing to boot in debug mode?). I don't have any of these problems when I use generic KVM or Proxmox KVM. To turn on debugging in Windows, I do the follwoing from an admin terminal window: bcdedit /debug on bcdedit /dbgsettings net hostip:a.b.c.d port:p key:1.2.3.4 Any help will be appreciated, Thanks, Andrew

Jump from a disk to its storage domain from VM disk

Hello, currently on 4.2.3 I can - Select Storage --> Disks - Select disk link in the line (in the "Alias" column) - In the new disk page select "Storage" tab and I can see the related Domain Name and its information (eg free space if I want to extend the disk) --> it would be nice to have a "link" on domain name so that you can directly jump to Storage --> Domains --> Domain Name It would be nice to have similar behavior also directly starting from Compute --> Virtual Machines Select VM --> Disks Select disk Here I can select "edit" and then in the edit window I can see information about storage domain between the other fields. It would be nice to have a pointer to directly go to the storage domain containing that disk. Gianluca

oVirt - Scaling out from one to many

Hello everyone, I have two things that i really need to understand regarding storage scaling using gluster. Basically, I am trying to figure out a way to go from 1 single instance to multiple nodes cluster. 1. Single node SelfHosted Engine HyperConverged setup - scale instance up to 3 nodes: - the gluster volumes are created as distributed type. - is there a procedure to migate this single-host scenario to multiple nodes, considering that the 3 nodes setup is using replica 3 gluster volumes ? 2. 3 Nodes SelfHosted Engine - add more storage nodes - how should I increase the size of the already present replica 3 volumes ? - should the volumes be as distribute-replicated in an environment larger than 3 nodes ? 3. Hello Team Ovirt, We are running Ovirt3.8 version in our prod, we want to upgrade to 3.8 to 4.2. At present we have 2 (hyp A & hyp B)physical host ovirt 3.8 is running with self hosted engine with data domain and iso one cluster and data center. What we were thing do this migration in following fashion. Plan A. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. Install self hosted engine 7. Attach Data Domain 8. Attach Export Domain which was use in ovirt 3.8 9. Import all vm's from there to new ovirt 4.2 10. Once all the vm's got up and running poweroff hyp A 11. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp A and attach cluster. Plan B. 1. Attach export domain present infra. 2. Take backup all of running vm as export. 3. Detach export domain 4. Detach hyp B from cluster and data center 5. Install fresh ovirt 4.2 iso on hyp B 6. oVirt reports using Grafana

Heya! I've been whishing for reports in oVirt ever since the old 'Jasper Reports' was removed. For an Enterprise, having pretty graphs to look at is a must. Searching the subject, I've found this[*] and have managed to get it installed OK but having issues trying to follow the guide setting it up. First of all, I think the guide should have at least mentioned that 'pg_hba.conf' needs to be edited for the read only user to be able to connect to the database, I scratched my head around that for a while before I got it. When I first type in the query example, I got syntax errors: 'pq: syntax error at or near "$"'. I continued anyways since I figured it would be solved at a later point, which turned out to be true, since the next step is to use the "Templating feature" to add variables. Unfortunately this doesn't go so well, even though I followed the instructions very carefully. After hitting save on the first variable I am rewarded with the error message: 'Template variables could not be initialized: pq: column "en_us" does not exist.' Are the queries stated in the guide still correct? Hello! I would like to read your thoughts regarding a new implementation we are about to do at work Our infrastructure is as follows There are 9 servers who will be used for running vm's Network is 2x10G + 4x1G ethernet per server each has 2x 10C xeon processors and 192GB RAM and 2x 300GB 10K Enterprise SAS 6Gbps, Hot Swap HDD There are 3 servers who will be used for storage. Network is 2x10G + 4x1G ethernet per server each has 2x 8c Xeon processors with 128GB RAM 2x 300GB 10000RPM, 2.5", Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Hot Swap 6x 200GB WesternDigital HGST ultrastar HUSMM1620ASS200 ssd Each server has a jbod box connected to the server through sas interface 12x 4TB The ovirt installation is expected to run 250-200 VM's on maximum load. Expected to run on a big VM there is our mail server which is pretty loaded, has about 50000 registred users and about half of them are pretty active. What I'm currently thinking is : have hosted vm on compute servers storage, as a stand alone non managed volume of about 150GB. but I would like the engine to be stored on more than 3 servers. Any thoughts ? On the vm storage since high availability is a must I will probably set the servers in raid6 with a spare each and then I will do 3 volumes(2 data bricks + 1 arbiter brick on each server) on glusterfs replica 3 arbiter 1. This will give me about 36TB usable per storage server. I'm highly concerned on how glusterfs will perform regarding the email server. Right now email server is on a vm running on KVM and it gets it's storage from an EMC storage. I'm not expecting Gluster to perform as the EMC storage but I would like to know if it can handle it. I'm thinking of dedicating a gluster volume exclusively Is it better to give to the email vm the gluster volume as a disk(s) from ovirt or directly mount it through the vm? ovirt will force the use of gfapi if I set it on the engine. on the other hand if I use this, how sharding will perform. On the other hand, If I mount it as a glusterfs volume directly on the vm how will it perform through fuse? I have 6x200gb ssd's per storage server. Will it do any good to add these as a tiering volume? What should the shard block size be in that case should it be smaller to utilise the ssd's better ? Will performance be better if I use ceph through iscsi with multipath? I read that ceph needs more nodes to perform suitably and that iscsi adds considerable overhead. I'd love to read your thoughts on this.

Problem with following host link for vm list using Java SDK.

When trying to do VM list using the 4.2.4 Java SDK against a 4.2.4 engine, I am getting an error while trying to follow the host link to get host info. Any suggestions on fixing this? Host reboot failed

Hello, [oVirt 4.2.4.5-1.el7] Sequence : - Among 7 active UP hosts, one of them runs zero VM - On this (still in UP state) host, I run a SSH-restart via the web GUI - The host gracefully shuts down then reboots, with no issue - In the web GUI, as in real life, the host stays in Reboot state forever A this point, the engine can ping it, can ssh-connect to it, the host seems to have zero issue. In the web GUI, I can not put it into active state because it is not in maintenance state. It stays in reboot state. I can not either put it in maintenance state because it stays in reboot state. This state lasts long enough to allow me type this mail, look into logs, and as I was about to send logs, I see the host is returning to life (its states comes back as UP). I don't type fast, so after the host has finished rebooting, maybe 5 or 10 minutes have passed before the engine links again to the host. Before posting additional logs and comments, does anybody know if this is a know bug or behavior, or do I have to open a BZ? Regards, -- Nicolas ECARNOT

Hi, After installing ovirt 3.5 on centOS6.9 the ovirt-engine has stopped. while restarting the engine the error comes "/usr/share/jboss-as" not found. I installed jboss-as7.7.7final and again restart ovirt-engine. now it says ovirt-engine started, but when i checj the status, it shows ovirt-engine stopped, but PID file exist. Please help me to solve this. because i want to crate a lab using 3.5 for my exam. Thank You Dinusha

VDI - SPICE zero clients

Hi, I gt hold of a 10zig V1200-P for testing VDI under ovirt/RHEV, as I'd read that they support SPICE. However, I haven't found how to connect it successfully to a VM as yet. Has anyone had any experience with these using ovirt/RHEV? I haven't been able to find any manuals or support info on the 10zig website regarding these V1200-P zero clients. I've read that they are discontinuing SPICE support in the future, but I just need to be able to demonstrate it working for now. Thanks for any help, Cam

Console issues in a distributed environment over NAT

Hi all, i'm trying to deploy oVirt to manage multiple 'data centers' (really just very basic deployments of single hosts using local storage that are deployed in varying geographic locations), where each host/resource pool is (unfortunately) only accessible via NAT. I've setup port-forwards for all functions, including SPICE/VNC, but am running into issues with the 'console' button in the GUI. When I initially added the host I added it using the NAT IP, however when trying to connect to console the console.vv file generated from the GUI references the local (private) IP of the host, instead of the NAT IP of the upstream firewall - so I have to manually open the file to change it to the NAT IP in order to connect to a VM's console. This is a minor annoyance for me, but it does ultimately the tool will be used by others who are less comfortable with steps like these. Is there a way around this, to have the console.vv generate with the IP oVirt is using to connect to the host, instead of its discovered local IP? Also if you can think of any other concerns I may encounter in a NAT deployment like this, please share! Thanks!

NFS Mount on EMC VNXe3200 / User - Group 36:36 / Permission issue

Hello, I try to mount an NFS Data share from a EMC VNXe3200 export. Unfortunately, NFS share cannot be mount, there is permission error. (Indeed, after the same issue on another NFS ISO repo, I've change exported directory user/group to 36:36, and O-Virt NFS mount was great). So, I think issue with my VNXe3200 is regarding UID / GID owner on VNXe3200 side. After webex with EMC support, change owner / permission on VNXe side seems not possible / supported. Can I mount the NFS share with some options to avoid vdsm:kvm mounting issue ? Can I force mount with root ? Regards, Jean-Baptiste COUPIAC

PXE LOCALBOOT issue

Hey all, Provisioning a host with Foreman 1.17.1/Katello 3.6. The host kickstarts fine but when it goes to reboot, iPXE fails to load the local disk when the Foreman local boot kickstart menu ( https://github.com/theforeman/community-templates/blob/develop/provisioning…, line 4-10) sends the command "LOCALBOOT 0". It simply fails and says "No more network devices. No bootable device." Is this a bug in iPXE? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Mike

Unable to start VM

Hi all, I did a routine maintenance today (updating the hosts) to ovirt cluster (4.2) and I have one VM that was complaining about an invalid snapshot. After shutdown of VM the VM is not able to start again, giving the error: VM Gitlab is down with error. Hello, There is something I don't understand in permissions. I'm using Ovirt 4.2.3.5-1. I created a user : - ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user add etudiant2 --attribute=firstName=Etudiant2 --attribute=lastName=Etudiant2-Lastname - ovirt-aaa-jdbc-tool user password-reset etudiant2 --password-valid-to="2025-01-01 10:30:00Z" On the Administration Portal I gave him (etudiant2) the permission UserVmManager on only one VM and nothing else. But when he logs in the VM Portal he can view, start, stop all the VM. I think it's because all users are member of the group Everyone and this group has by default the UserRole. And in my config (the default/install config) the UserRole can do Basic Operation an VM. Moreover the UserRole is given to the group Everyone on all VM I created, and I can't remove this permission (Remove button is greyed). How can I make a VM "private", only visible by one user ? Device Mapper Timeout when using Gluster Snapshots

I am facing this trouble since version 4.1 up to the latest 4.2.4, once we enable gluster snapshots and accumulate some snapshots (as few as 15 snapshots per server) we start having trouble booting the server. The server enters emergency shell upon boot after timing out waiting for snapshot devices. Waiting a few minutes and pressing Control-D then boots the server normally. In case of very large number of snapshots (600+) it can take days before the sever will boot. Attaching journal log, let me know if you need any other logs. hyperconverged cluster - how to change the mount path?

Hi list, I'm looking for an advice how to change the mount point of the hosted_storage due to a hostname change. When I set up our hyperconverged lab cluster (host1, host2, host3) I populated the mount path with host3:/hosted_storage which wasn't very clever as it brings in a single point of failure (i.e. when host3 is down). So I thought adding a round robin dns/hosts entry (i.e. gluster1) for host 1 to 3 and changing the mount path would be a better idea. But the mount path entry is locked in web gui and I couldn't find any hint how to change it manually (in database, shared and local configuration) in a consistent way without risking the cluster. So, is there a step by step guide how to achieve this without reinstalling (from backup)? Advice on deploying oVirt hyperconverged environment Node based

Hello All, I am about deploying a new Ovirt system for our developers that we plan to be hyperconverged environment Node based. The system workload would be mostly used for builders that compiling our code , which involves with lots of small files and intensive IO. I plan to build two glustered volume "layers" one based on sas drives for OS spin on, and second for Nvme based for intensive IO. I would expect that the system will be resilient/high availability and in the same time give enough good IO request for vm builders that will be at least 6 to 8 vm guests. The system hardware would be as follows: *chassis*: 4x HP DL380 gen8 *each server hardware:* *cpu*: 2x e5-2690v2 *memory*:256GB *Disks*:12x 1.2TB sas 10k disks , 2 mirror for os (or using usk kingstone 2x 128gb mirror) rest for vm os volume. *Nvme*: 2x960GB Kingstone KC1000 for builders compiling source code *Network: *4 ports Intel 10Gbit/s SFP + Given above configuration and theory, my question would be what would be best practice in terms of Gluster configuration *Distributed,Replicated,Distributed Replicated,Dispersed,Distributed Dispersed*? What is the suggestion for hardware raid type 5 or 6 , or use ZFS? Network nodes communication , i intend to use 3 ports for storage communication and one port for guests network , my question regarding Gluster inter communication , what is better would i gail from 3x 10G LACP or 1 network for each gluster volume? Changing resolution of console on Mint guest running on Ovirt 4.2

I keep getting an error: Could not set configuration for CRTC 63. I checked that I have spice-agent and spice-agentd running. Also qemu-guest-agent. lspci shows that I have a QXL adapter. xrandr -q shows that I have many different config available. but none work. What am I missing?
