Host unable to run VMs after upgrading to 4.2 release

NAT+IP masquerading with oVirt 4.2

Hi, I'm trying to set up NAT+IP masquerading with oVirt 4.2. I have enabled the libvirt default network on virbr0 and added a network with the same name in oVirt. I have also installed vdsm-hook-extnet and set extnet to 'default' for this network to default. When I try to start my VM with this network assigned to it, I get this error: The host ovirthost did not satisfy internal filter Network because network(s) virbr0 are missing. RHEL5 guests frequently hang when migrating host.

Hi, I am experiencing that my RHEL5 guests frequently "hang" when migrating host. Console is blank, CPU after migration is 100% and as far as oVirt is concerned, the VM is OK. oVirt is 4.2.3.8-1.el7, on CentOS 7. Hosts are CentOS 7 as well. Cluster is in "Intel Westmere family" CPU type. Guest is RHEL5, fully patched, kernel 4.2.3.8-1.el7 with ovirt-guest-agent installed from EPEL. I do not see anything out of place in the ovirt-engine and vdsm logs, and the guest logs are simply not there, the stop right before the migration,as if the machine had "frozen". Powering the VM off and starting it starts the VM correctly. This does not happen 100% of the time. If I try to migrate the VM when it is freshly started the migration is faster (maybe 5 seconds), and the guest OS does not hang. Anybody else experiencing something similar? Maybe something (timeouts?) that I should tune on the guest OS for RHEL5? Thanks! -- Eduardo Mayoral.

Hi, We're running oVirt 4.1.9, recently we had an issue with snapshots so we had to fix them manually. HE + Gluster : Engine corrupted?

I cannot get the screen on HE to change short of ctl-alt-del which will reboot the HE. I do have backups for the HE that are/were run on a nightly basis. If the cluster was left alone, the HE vm would bounce from machine to machine trying to boot. This is why the cluster is in maintenance mode. One of the nodes was down for a period of time and brought back, sometime through the night, which is when the automated backup kicks, the HE started bouncing around. Got nearly 1000 emails. unable to create iSCSI storage domain

Hi, I've a problem creating an iSCSI storage domain. My hosts are running the current ovirt 4.2 engine-ng version. I can detect and login to the iSCSI targets, but I cannot see any LUNs (on the LUNs > Targets page). That happens with our storage and with a linux based iSCSI target which I created for testing purposes. When I logon to the ovirt hosts I see that they are connected with the target LUNs (dmesg is telling that there are iscsi devices being found and they are getting assigned to devices in /dev/sdX ). Writing and reading from the devices (also accros hosts) works. Do you have some advice how to troubleshoot this? Regards Bernhard

rhgs 3.3.1 rhev 4.2 vdsm gluster host deploy fails with no real indication of an error, looks like a network error

Hello, Seeing some odd behavior deploying a host to a gluster cluster on rhev 4.2 running rhgs 3.3.1. The host failed to be added to the cluster and there are no real errors in the host deploy logs. Upon further investigation it looks like its failing network host checks. The interfaces gets added to the host when trying to configure host networks, but fails even though everything seems routable. Hi, I'm currently running oVirt with a self hosted engine configuration on an Intel NUC. All of my VMs are on my home 192.168.1.0/24 network, but I want to set up a completely isolated network like VirtualBox has (https://blogs.oracle.com/scoter/virtualbox-host-only) The NUC that I have only has one NIC so I think I'll have to set up a dummy interface of some kind. I tried that with the below example. I couldn't find a good guide or doc on this. Can someone please assist? Dear All, IS this the most current and useful example of implenting vGPUs in oVirt? I had understood that 4.2 had NVIDIA GRID support as a flagship feature, but this appears to be 4.1.4? Missing step(s) after custom x509 certificates

I followed the docs at https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/appe-oVirt_and_SSL/ and all works well from the usual web portal. Went to test moVirt and ran into a snag. It wants to download the CA using http://fqdn/ovirt-engine/services/pki-resource?resource=ca-certificate&form…, but that's grabbing the old CA issued by the engine rather than my custom CA. What else needs to be changed? I'm sure I can finagle my way to a fix here by telling moVirt to use a custom URL or file, but this looks like a bug in the docs that would probably best be fixed. -- John Florian

disk performance findings

I have deployed a HCI environment several times now as I wanted to get some idea of disk performance with Gluster/ On a Dell R720 3 node cluster with H710 PERC controller and 8 x 2TB 7200 RPM SATA drives. My first test was with the 8 drives configured as H/W RAID 6 and I configured Gluster as RAID 6 - quite a lot of redundancy but that was just my first deployment Running IOMeter for 24 hours using all in one access specification I got 240 IOPs. Pretty good for SATA drives. I then broke the RAID and configured 8 virtual disks, one per physical and then deployed Gluster as JBOD - I am not sure how resilient that is, but I assume in a 3 node cluster failures to tolerate would be one. This gave me 267 IOPs. I don't know that much about the internals of Gluster, but when I first asked about this there didn't seem to be much knowledge of what configuration would be best for HCI. I plan to do more research and tests on this, but for what its worth for now, I am going down the JBOD route with no H/W RAID. Regards Bill

Restore and rename engine

Hello, I have been trying to test our system by restoring from backup to a new machine and running ovirt-engine-rename, then engine-setup. I get to sent back to the main oVirt Web page from any of the portals, which has an Warning triangle saying the engine is initializing. and in the URL it has ovirt-engine/?error_description=server_error%3A+%2Fetc%2Fpki%2Fjava%2Fcacerts+(No+such+file+or+directory)&error=server_error The original machine had a certificate signed by an external authority. I tried putting back the link from apache-ca.pem to ca.pem, the original apache.key.nopass, websocket-proxy.key.nopass as well as hte key files. I upgraded from 4.1.9 to 4.2.3 and it says it is resigning the certificates but still fails. Regards, Paul S. quick way to start glusterfs managed engine over?

I have successfully got glusterfs playbook to finish once and then my networking was wrong on the managed engine and on the hosts, so I started over. Now I can't seem to even get that far again. I completely reloaded the hosts, but that takes a while. Last time glusterfs failed right at the end with "host is not in 'Peer in Cluster' state" Redeploying fails as partitions already exist. I am deploying to /dev/sdb Is there a quick way to get /dev/sdb back into a state to redeploy to? I think I got there once by doing pvremove and gdisk zap gpt, but not sure if that worked or caused problem on the redeploy. Its very time consuming to start over from scratch, so would appreciate if there is any shortcut instead of reloading the OS. Thans Bill

Unable to backend oVirt with Cinder

When I configure it in oVirt it'll add the external provider fine, but when I go to create a disk it doesn't populate the volume type field, it's just empty. The corresponding command for cinder: cinder type-list and cinder type-show <name> returns fine and it is public. Ovirt and Cinder are on the same host so it isn't a firewall issue. Creating snapshot of a subset of disks

oVirt 4.2 and I/O threads configuration

Hello, in oVirt 4.1 I could enable I/O threads for a VM and then there was a field where I could define how many I/O threads (aka virtual scsi controllers from vm point of view). In 4.2 now I see only the option to enable them but not to specify the number. Hi all, I have a ovirt 2 node cluster for testing with self hosted engine on top gluster. The cluster was running on 4.1. After the upgrade to 4.2, which generally went smoothly, I am seeing that the bricks of one of the hosts (v1) are detected as down, while the gluster is ok when checked with command lines and all volumes mounted. cloud-init reverting static network settings to DHCP on shutdown and restart

Setting static network settings in the "Initial Run" section works fine when deploying a VM from template. When using "Run" to start the VM, customization works as expected. On a reboot the network settings are maintained however if the VM is shutdown and restarted the settings are reverted to DHCP. When editing the VM the cloud-init settings are still set and a visible in the "Initial Run" section. cloud-init (0.7.9-24.el7.centos) - Previously 0.7.9-20.el7.centos but upgraded to see if it would fix the issue. oVirt engine (4.2.4.1-1.el7) Guest OS (CentOS Linux release 7.4.1708) There is another thread that reports exactly the same issue and behavior here: - https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2018-March/087860.html Grateful for any thoughts or assistance. Hello, we are subject to PCI-DSS. I have some questions. We currently have setup oVirt in our environnement. We created 2 Datacenter. - one with a cluster with hosted engine on gluster (Hyperconverged env) which represents the "LAN" part - one with a cluster with gluster storage wich is the DMZ In PCI-DSS we have to secure communication (use HTTPs as much as possible). I did saw that ovirt-ha-agent (on hosted-engine capable host) check the status of the engine by sending GET request on the hosted-engine on port 80 (the same check that hosted-engine --vm-status did in fact). Since ovirt 4.2.2, with the introduction of gluster eventing, a new flow (HTTP post resquest) is needed from gluster nodes to the engine. (In my case, it's a flow from the DMZ to the LAN part in HTTP (non secure) Here is my question. Is it possible to "hardering" this part of the engine ? Another question out of PCI scope. Events like warning and error in the dashboard are clean each days. I tried to find which process did that (look into /etc/cron.daily, root crontab, etc) on the engine without succes. Is there any maintenance task that is run periodicaly ? Could we have the list of all the engine's task ? (regulary check the status of host, vm, storage) also the frequency ? I would appreciate the help. (Great great product ovirt !) Thank you for your jobs ! We did manage KVM hypervisor as standalone machine without all the power that libvirt provides. No need to spend lot of money into licencing product (VSphere and co)

Hi Guys, I've an answer... Here's how I did it... First, I needed kpartx ... so #apt-get install kpartx Then setup a loopback device for the raw hdd image #losetup /dev/loop4 [IMAGE FILE] #kpartx -a /dev/loop4 This allowed me to mount the various partitions included in the VM. General failure

Hi, We're running oVirt 4.1.9 (we cannot upgrade at this time) and we're having a major problem in our infrastructure. On friday, a snapshots were automatically created on more than 200 VMs and as this was just a test task, all of them were deleted at the same time, which seems to have corrupted several VMs. When trying to delete a snapshot on some of the VMs, a "General error" is thrown with a NullPointerException in the engine log (attached). But the worst part is that when some of these machines is powered off and then powered on, the VMs are corrupt... VM myvm is down with error. It looks like we are experiencing a bug in the version of glusterfs included with ovirt 4.2.3. Our setup is/was a gluster based storage system for VM's. The gluster data storage I'm assuming is okay, I think the hosted engine is hosed, and needs restored, but that's another thread. I can copy the raw disk file off of the gluster data domain. What's the best way to mount it short of importing it into another gluster domain? With vmware, we can grab the disk file and move it from server to server without issue. You can mount and explore contents with workstation. What do we have available to us for ovirt? Thanks,

I have a 4 node setup (centos 7) with hosted engine on glusterfs (replica 3 arbiter1). Gluster fs is like this ohost01 104G brick (real data) ohost02 104g brick (real data) ohost04 104g brick (arbiter) ohost05 104g partition used as nfs-storage. hosted engine is on gluster. I also have an fc domain of 3,6 TB mount of gluster is like this storage=172.16.224.10:/engine mnt_options=backup-volfile-servers=172.16.224.11:172.16.224.13 172.16.224.10 is ohost01 storage network 172.16.224.12 is ohost02 storage network 172.16.224.13 is ohost04 storage network Today I upgraded all nodes. I did it like this: hosted-engine was running on ohost05 at the time Put ohost04 (arbiter) on maintenance and did upgrade (ok) Same with ohost02 Ohost01 was spm so I did ohost05 spm then put ohost01 on maintenance and then upgraded it. I notticed that engine VM paused during the process (which usualy does not happen) as I have backup-volfile-servers mount option. But today I notticed that this option is ignored. On the hosts I also noted that mount is like this 172.16.224.10:/engine on /rhev/data-center/mnt/glusterSD/172.16.224.10:_engine type fuse.glusterfs (rw,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,max_read=131072) so reduduncy is gone from gluster and I cannot figure out why. If I restart ohost01 (after maintenance) hosted engine get paused until ohost01 comes back up. How can I solve this issue

On this oVirt DC, I reproduced this issue twice on 2 different hosts. In this engine log above, you see that I'm using my account to manage this engine, as I 'm doing for years with no issue. Hello everyone, I believe there is a potential issue with the RHEL 7 yum repos and at least one missing RPM to convert a pre-existing RHEL 7.5 system into an oVirt host node. I have the following YUM repos enabled in my RHEL 7 system, according to the documentation: rhel-7-server-rpms rhel-7-server-optional-rpms rhel-7-server-extras-rpms I installed the oVirt 4.2 RPM: ovirt-release42-4.2.3.1-1.el7.noarch I then go to the engine GUI to add the new host, and during the installation process I am informed that there is a YUM transaction error with the following package being unavailable: python-qpid-proton (as a dependency install for the python-gofer-proton package) I dug around Red Hat's YUM repos and discovered that this package only exists in the rhel-7-server-satellite-tools-6.{1..3}-rpms YUM repos from the official Red Hat site. Any advice would be welcomed.

Hello, I have installed a test system for oVirt 4.2 and it seems that in the vm portal I can't change the console to vnc or spice+vnc. It seems that this is only available in the admin portal.
