Testing ansible playbook against a mock engine?

Hello, i'm planning to create a big standardization playbook for my environment to ensure that all the required configs (networks, hosts, host's nics and networks....) are correctly set up. Since i don't want to test against a running setup, i'd like to spawn a transient one for testing. I already know Lago, but i think is bit overkill for testing an ansible playbook. Is there any tool that creates only an engine instance with some fake hosts configured so i can test the playbook against it? Hi Gianluca, Can you try to reproduce it with FC? Maybe it's somehow related to that. Did you try to lvremove the old lv's, or are they still in use? Trying to do this from the SPM should be ok. What do you mean synchronize the information at the other node side? In any case, this is a disk that you don't need anymore, isn't it? You said that the copy part of the move operation went well. Troubles uploading iso files via engine-iso-uploader

Hello, I've recently ran into a problem after removing an old nfs mounted ISO domain and recreating it using glusterfs. When I attempt to upload an iso using engine-iso-uploader it shows that it's attempting to access the storage domain via nfs. ---snipet---- DEBUG: /bin/mount -t nfs -o rw,sync,soft 10.4.16.11:/ISOSB /tmp/tmpr4lwKy ------------- from the engine server I am able to mount the gluster volume from the above path without issues. Iguess I'm confused as to why it's attempting to connecting using nfs when I created the storage domain for it using glusterfs. I have 1 ovirt engine server with 7 host/hypervisors and a 3 node replicated gluster volume. I've created seperate storage domains for VM images(data) and for ISO images. Both storage domains are accessible from the engine server and all host. Node Upgrade failing

Hello All, first of all, I hope this question is not too trivial or hasn't been asked lately ( but i scrolled down the mailing list and didn't find anything similar, so...) I have a lot of trouble with locked disks when trying to remove vm's. I know there's the unlock_entity script but cannot get it to work. Where can I find a copy-paste-able uuid nr of the disk? It prompts me for a database password. Is this something I should have created when setting up Ovirt? Can anyone give me an example of a complete unlock entity command? Resize disk of powered on VM

Hello, I'm in 4.1.6. I have a VM with 2 virtio-scsi disks (on FC). If I try to do a resize of the boot disk (preallocated) from this menu: 1) - select VM - disks sub tab - select disk - edit - edit virtual disk window - extend size by X Gb I get error about "not all VMs are powered down" Instead if I do a resize of the same disk from this menu: 2) - select VM - edit VM - find the line of the disk and select the "edit" button at the right - edit virtual disk window - extend size by X Gb it works as expected, so without downtime Is this expected? Actually after 2) scenario, I had retried 1) and it works too this time. During the first 1) that failed, I see this in engine.log: Validation of action 'UpdateVmDisk' failed for user admin@internal-authz. Reasons: VAR__AC TION__UPDATE,VAR__TYPE__DISK,ACTION_TYPE_FAILED_VM_IS_NOT_DOWN But the VM is indeed up on all 3 attempts.... so I don't understand this message On another VM, again with a disk configured as virtio-scsi, but configured as thin provisioned, both from 1) and 2) scenario I get: c7service: - Cannot edit Virtual Disk. Cannot edit Virtual Disk. Disk extension combined with disk compat version update isn't supported. Please perform the updates separately. What does it mean "perform the updates separately"? I cannot online resize thin provisioned disks? The VM has only one disk, BTW. Thanks, Gianluca

Vnc client from windows 10

Hello, I'm trying to have a user connect to the console VM through vnc protocol, but without the virt-viewer application. The client is Windows 10. I have tried some options without success, with tightvnc, ultravnc and realvnc but all of them give error about syntax. Any native client suggested/recommended with windows 10 and oVirt? Tried also noVnc that works from a Linux client and so I'm sure all is ok at oVirt side, but from Windows 10 and chrome 61 I imported the certificate in trusted root authority but nevertheless I get the error Any hints? Hi Alex, Can you check if you have the following on your setup ? 1) gluster volume which will be used as ISO storage domain should have bricks connected using glusternw. 2) NFS time out is caused due to not having nfs.disable off on the volume. Can you try to set this and try again. 3) self hosted engine requires an additional NIC on the gluster network for the engine-iso-uploader to work sucessfully if ovirtmgmt and glusternw are on a different subnet. Even after having all the above if things do not work, you can just scp the file to /mnt/<storage-domain-uuid/>/images/11111111111111-1111- 1111-11111111…/ Hope this helps !!! High availability when both engine host and host with application vm failed

I want to make a setup, when workload is distributed between two sites are high availability mechanism protects from one site failure, restarting vms on another site. Scenario I use: 1. Poweroff hosted engine host, and then host with highly-available vm 2. Engine comes back on another site (which is fine). 3. What I expect, engine finds, that there's a host not available with HA vms, and restart these vms on another host. But, I only see in logs, that engine reports, that it cannot connect to that host (java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host). Whel I poweroff just server with app vm, High Availability works correctly, performs fencing and restarts vm on another host. I use release 4.1 from RedHat. Has anyone faced similar issue? And, if yes, how could that be toubleshooted? Thank you in advance, Sergei.

Hello James, The way to do it is to assign a new MAC pool range to this cluster and then to remove it. This can be done via - Administration > Configure > MAC addresses pool - There you can create/edit and remove MAC pool range entities. So create another desired MAC pool range, assign it to the cluster(via edit cluster) and remove the desired MAC pool range from the system. Cannot uplaod ot ISO domain

Hi all, I have setup a self hosted setup with 3 servers with several volumes in replica 3. These gluster volumes are set on a separate network (on separate NICs on same servers), dedicated for gluster traffic. The engine does not have any NIC in this network. The ISO storage domain is also on top one of these gluster volumes. Hope this makes sense. When I try to upload an ISO file from engine, I get the following error: engine-iso-uploader -i ISO upload /usr/share/ovirt-guest-tools-iso/oVirt-toolsSetup_4.1-3.fc24.iso Please provide the REST API password for the admin@internal oVirt Engine user (CTRL+D to abort): Uploading, please wait... ERROR: mount.nfs: No route to host Seems that the engine is trying to mount the volume and gives a no route to host. What is the correct procedure to add an ISO domain? Install oVirt in CentOS 7 Node

Hi. I have a host which I installed a Minimal CentOS 7 and turned into a oVirt Node therefore it didn't come with Cockpit installed and configured as it does in the oVirt-Node-NG. Comparing both types of Hosts I have the following packages below in each scenario. The only package missing between both is "cockpit-ovirt-dashboard". However I have already tried to install it and it was unable to show up the Virtual Machines correctly and control them. move disk and lv not removed

Hello, on an FC based environment I have a powered off VM Select VM --> disks subtab --> select one disk of 20Gb move at the end of the move apparently all went ok, but right after the "finished moving.." event I also get this error event VDSM host1 command HSMGetAllTasksStatusesVDS failed: Cannot remove Logical Volume: (['Cannot remove Logical Volume: (u\'c5d360f5-cd90-4b3e-bdef-924649bfbc5f\', "[\'2255c544-165b-4126-86ee-70e6d1edef9a\']")'],) After that I also do the same for another disk of the same VM with size 80Gb and it completes ok, without the same event error. So the problem doesn't occur always It seem to me that the old disk (aka old lv) has remained as a left over. Host fencing issues

Hello Team, I updated one of my host on my cluster and after it finish and try to activate the host it quickly claimed that the host was unresponsive and it fenced the host... Now every time I try to activate the host it clames that is unresponsive and proceeds to fence it... This was not happening before the update.... The host is reachable with no problems nor issues... User cannot create VMs having sufficient permissions to do so

Hi, We're running ovirt-4.1.6.2-1. We have a user that logs into the user portal and tries to create a VM, but a message claiming that "There is no Cluster on which you can create a VM. Please check Data Center status and Cluster permissions." shows up. However, this user has permissions on the cluster (both VmCreator and DiskProfileUser, and also has a Quota created on the Cluster which allows him to create VMs). When clicking on the 'New VM' button, all we see in the engine.log is: 2017-10-18 10:59:31,825+01 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.GetAllLabelsQuery] (default task-103) [c23549c6-37a4-48d7-923d-6618e027cdca] Query execution failed due to insufficient permissions. This user has pretty much the same permissions as thousands of users who can create VMs, but this one can't. How can we debug what's happening and how to solve it? Thanks.

Unresponsive instance

Dear Team, After a power failure and restart, one of my instances would not display properly from the Ovirt User Portal. This error would scroll down the screen repeatly to infinitum. XFS (dm-0): Metadata CRC error detected at xfs_inobt_read_verify+0x79/0xb0 [xfs], xfs_inobt block 0x1df188 XFS (dm-0): Unmount and run xfs_repair XFS (dm-0): First 64 bytes of corrupted metadata buffer: (Hex Dump) I detached the boot disk and attached to another instance and ran xfs_repair on it, to no avail. The instance boots fine and I am able to access via XRDP. When I try to access via spice or VNC I get the error. Suggestions? Thanks

GlusterFS performance questions

I am currently in the process of researching converting an existing SMB infra to virtual. Ovirt/RHEV is a strong contender and checks off a lot of boxes on our list. GlusterFS is appealing but I am finding it very difficult to find any answers or stats/numbers regarding how well it can perform as backend storage for VMs, especially VMs with medium to high workloads, and possibly some or many in a dev environment where many small files are interacted with very frequently. >From my research on GlusterFS in general some people tend to say that it is not the best performer and it's not the best choice for handling small files. How true is this? I understand that there are many variables such as hardware, drives, proper configuration, internal network etc. but what I'm trying to avoid here is going through the whole process of spendng a lot of money building out an ovirt gluster with a proper SSD glusterFS configuration w/ 10gbe internal network only to find out some day down the road that it cannot meet our I/O needs. Can anyone comment on how I can best determine the performance level to expect from a typical ovrt w/ glusterfs replica 3 arbiter 1 configuration. Or perhaps any use cases with people/companies running a similar setup in production with high VM workloads? Right now I'm leaning toward using a SAN due to the simplicity and predictable performance. Although this will definitely cost a lot more money for something that glusterFS *may* be able to handle. Ovirt 4.1 - Multiple Nics on hosted engine

Hi, I tried to add new interface to hosted engine via GUI. It got added but network was not accessible from hosted engine (ping was failing) So I got old mail thread for adding "Multiple Nic on hosted engine" I tired to follow but not found this file for ovirt 4.1 /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/vm.conf http://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2014-November/029236.html Is it possible to add new nic in ovirt 4.1? or Is there any different procedure for ovirt 4.1 ? if yes, please let me know. Killing Zombie or hungTasks

However the import task or the activity never ended in spite of throwing an error. Even after 4 full days, on the VM an Hour glass was shown and it kept reporting, hung task. Finally we had to run engine-update, that removed Zombie tasks and VM started showing as DOWN and we could remove the VM. I believe, this is not the right process to remove the zombie tasks or hung tasks. Is there a better method without running "engine-update"? 4.1 to 4.2 upgrade

hello, What would be the process to go from current 4.1 to 4.2-pre? I have been demoing 4.2 on my own lab environment and the WebUI, for my user base, is entirely more intuitive than the previous My 4.1 is relatively new so there isnt much config done to it, that said, wondering what it would take to update ovirt HE w/ 3 nodes + GlusterFS (not managed via ovirt) to 4.2-pre and what it would like like to move back from a -pre channel to mainline Alternatively, I could wait for 4.2 to go main, do you have an estimated date for that? Thanks!

Configuring ilo4 on hp blade gen 9

Hello, on 4.1.6 I'm configuring fencing on HP blades Gen9. It seems I'm able to use ilo_ssh as agent and that I have only to set 22 as the port and ssh=1 in options Question: why ssh=1??? the agent is named ilo_ssh.... shouldn't be obvious??? The same form command line I MUST set -x even if I use fence_ilo_ssh command Nevertheless, this way I get successful test Sometimes I don't get the same result if I run from shell eg: fence_ilo_ssh -a ilo_ip -l fenceuser -S /usr/local/bin/my_fence_script.sh -x -o status I get sometimes: Unable to connect/login to fencing device I think it could be some sort of delay timeout. In fence_ilo_ssh I see these kinds of timeouts in help --power-timeout=[seconds] Test X seconds for status change after ON/OFF --shell-timeout=[seconds] Wait X seconds for cmd prompt after issuing command --login-timeout=[seconds] Wait X seconds for cmd prompt after login --power-wait=[seconds] Wait X seconds after issuing ON/OFF --delay=[seconds] Wait X seconds before fencing is started How do they map with gui settings options in case I would use some of them? Also, how do I map the command line option -4, --inet4-only Perhaps inet4_only=1 ? I see that ssh=1,inet4_only=1 works but also ssh=1,inet4_only=1,foo=1 works So it is not a reliable test to verify syntax... All in all do you think it is the best agent for ilo4 based blades? I have made some test with fence_ilo4 but unable to get success... what should I enable on ilo web administration page in this case, if you think the agent would be better for any reason? How to change network card configuration under bridge on host?

Hi, I've got a single host running CentOS 7.3 + Ovirt 4.0.6 with hosted engine. I'm having network issues (see previous email thread) and the next thing I'm going to try is to add a new network card and use that instead of the onboard ethernet on the mobo. However it looks like /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* get replaced every time the host restarts. Right now it's configured with: eno1, eno2 -> bond0 -> ovirtmgmt I accomplished this by setting up the bond by hand on the host before I installed the hosted engine, but then ovirt "took control" of the configuration. I want to change this to replace eno1 and eno2 with the two new devices when I add the new card tomorrow. What's the best way to do this? I suppose I can just add the new devices as bond0 slaves pretty easily by creating new ifcfg-xxx files for the new devices (I'm assuming they will be eno3 and eno4) that looks similar to the eno1 and eno2 files. However I'd like to also remove eno1 and eno2 from bond0. Yet I suspect if I change ifcfg-eno1 and ifcfg-eno2 by hand, they will just get replaced at the next reboot by ovirt. How do I convince ovirt to stop overwriting those files? Or how do I tell ovirt about the new configuration? Issues with Windows 7 VM

Hello, I'm a Systems Administrator at Wolfram Research, and we've been having an issue with a Windows 7 x64 VM. This is a new VM with a newly created Cinder VM image attached to it, which was working without issue last week. Earlier today I performed a Windows update and shutdown the VM. When trying to start it back up, it does nothing but fail with the message "Failed to start VM on host. We have several VM hosts set up, so it will bounce around between a few of them, failing each time before giving up entirely. Myself and another SysAdmin have looked through the logs and have not been able to find any reason as to why this VM won't start. No other VM's are having problems, and Cinder is working correctly. If you would have any idea as to why this is happening, or where we could look to figure out what may be going on, it would be much appreciated. Mouse USB passthrough not working

I have a windows guest that I use to use without issue, but since upgrading from 4.1.4 to 4.1.6 I cannot get a mouse to pass through to the VM using USB Passthrough. Keyboard using USB passthrough and my GPU works without an issue. I have tried multiple mice with the same issue, they just wont work. Any ideas?

I've tried to add a second FC data domain to our oVirt remote infra, built with 6 hosts in remote and 4 local, where hosted-engine is running. Currently, we are using 4.0.1.1-1.el7.centos. After FC storage setup (zoning/masking), tried to add the new volume to the remote DC. Thats where I get the error: Unable to save ERF56-1309 [Foreman::FingerprintException]: The remote system presented a public key signed by an unidentified certificate authority. If you are sure the remote system is authentic, go to the compute resource edit page, press the 'Test Connection' or 'Load Datacenters' button and submit= =2E Everything I can find says that it *should* be resolved - From Red Hat, to Foreman, to even the Ovirt list! Yet there it is! Well after poking at it for a while, I realized that the cert Foreman was auto-resolving was still the /OLD/ cert! Step #2 in those ovirt directions says to break the symbolic link to /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/ca.pem. But it doesn't say what to do with that file. So I replaced it with my cert. Restarted ovirt and now Foreman resolves the correct X509 cert! (I have no idea if that broke something else.) But I still get the error in foreman. :-( I feel like I'm still missing something in the ovirt configs. Something needs to be updated/replaced in ovirt that isn't in those docs. Can anyone help me out please? I've been trying for hours and not making progress.
